On Dec. 11, 1998, Touchstone Pictures unveiled Wes Anderson’s Jason Schwartzman and Bill Murray starrer Rushmore in theaters, where it would go on to gross $17 million domestically. The Hollywood Reporter’s original review is below:
This sophomore feature from director Wes Anderson (Bottle Rocket) is an unusually stylish and quirky comedy that represents a significant marketing challenge for Touchstone Pictures.
A bizarre romantic triangle among a precocious teen wunderkind, a millionaire industrialist and a young schoolteacher, Rushmore has far more imagination and wit than most major studio efforts, but it is occasionally undone by its preciousness. The presence of Bill Murray, delivering one of his sharpest comic performances in eons, should help significantly. The film screened at the recent New York Film Festival.
Jason Schwartzman, making an auspicious screen debut, plays Max Fischer, a bespectacled l0th-grader at the upscale, snotty Rushmore Academy. Max is not exactly an academic star, but...

The United Kingdom's dream team for the Davis Cup Finals is seemingly falling apart as Andy Murray withdrew from the team after Daniel Evans.
Great Britain barely made it to the Final Eight at the Davis Cup Finals, requiring some doubles magic from Evans and Skupski to get it done. They were supposed to send one of the best teams on paper with Andy Murray, Cameron Norrie, Dan Evans, Jack Draper, and Neal Skupski.
It was a team that had good singles players and good doubles players who all knew how to play indoors. Unfortunately, Dan Evans picked up an injury, which was a huge blow for the team because they lost a really solid doubles player who worked well with Skupski.
That was a problem in itself, and now they lost veteran voice Andy Murray, who delivered a crucial point the last time the country played. Murray announced the...

Andy Murray fired back at the CEO of Novak Djokovic's sponsor, Lacoste, for a comment made after the Serbian secured the semi-final of the 2023 Atp Finals.
Despite winning two matches at the Atp Finals, Djokovic wasn't certain to find himself in the semifinal of the Atp Finals because any kind of victory of Holger Rune over Jannik Sinner would have sent him home.
It was a strange place to be in, but luckily for Djokovic, the Italian didn't hold back and bested Rune in a very close three-set match, ensuring him a place in the semi-final.
After the match, Lacoste CEO Thierry Guibert made an interesting comment on X, formerly Twitter, about the whole situation. Guibert, who seems to be a Djokovic fan, slammed Stefanos Tsitsipas for unfair behavior while praising Sinner.
"Hats off to Jannik Sinner for his win tonight. Despite the unfair behaviour of Tsitsipas, he showed...

The trailer for The Garfield Movie has now made its online debut. Sony Pictures Animation is bringing to life one of the most famous lazy felines in the world. The last time Garfield had graced the silver screen was in 2006’s Garfield: A Tale of Two Kitties, the sequel to 2004’s Garfield, which featured Bill Murray as the titular voice that originated with Lorenzo Music, who poetically also voiced the Bill Murray role in The Real Ghostbusters. Famously, Murray had admitted to taking the role under the mistaken assumption that he was working with one of the Coen brothers (the movie was written by Joel Cohen – unrelated to the beloved duo).
This new incarnation brings us an origin story of sorts courtesy of the new trailer. We get a look at how Garfield had ended up with his owner, Jon Arbuckle. In the intro to the trailer, kitten Garfield works...

Last week, Stranger Things cast member David Harbour said he expected to start filming season 5 of the hit Netflix series – which will also be the final season of the show – in “a couple days”. But first he had to make an appearance at Motor City Comic Con, and during the show he confirmed that season 5 has “a very real ending” that wraps up the story.
Harbour said (with thanks to Deadline for sharing his comment), “The beauty of it is, there’s a real ending. Stranger Things will end in a very real way. … The storyline of Stranger Things, from where we started with the Upside Down and that lab, to where we’re going in season 5 is one complete story, and it’s gonna end at the final episode of season 5.” He acknowledged that there’s still room for spin-offs and prequel stories like the stage play Stranger Things: The First Shadow,...

The 2023 Davis Cup Finals are inching closer, and Great Britain is sending a great squad with Andy Murray , Jack Draper , and Cameron Norrie .
Great Britain hosted its group in the recent Davis Cup Finals qualifiers and barely made it through as the final doubles match sealed the deal. Evans and Skupski produced an incredible effort to win the match and sent Great Britain to the final eight, where they hope to go all the way.
They will have some good players to lean on, with Murray, Norrie, and Draper all part of the team. They're all pretty capable singles players and love to play indoors, which gives them a lot of balance in approaching matchups with different nations.
All of them were in action at the recent qualifiers, as Murray and Draper provided wins while Norrie lost his match. Norrie has generally been struggling in recent weeks, but you never...

October is Black History Month, and Andy Murray spoke for Sky Sports about Serena Williams 's impact on tennis.
You don't need to be a tennis expert to understand the sheer importance of what Serena Williams did for tennis. If you went through the current Top 100 Wta players, you'd find most of them naming Serena Williams as an idol or inspiration.
That's all you really need to understand what kind of impact she left on future players and many generations of players. The record books record so many of her most outstanding achievements, which will be admired for years to come.

Andy Murray kicked off his 2023 Swiss Open Basel campaign with a solid win over Yannick Hanfmann , whom he bested in two sets.
The British player had some solid outings indoors last year, so it's not a huge surprise for fans to expect more good performances from him this year. This was a really good start all things considered, but it was also somewhat complicated.
The opponent was Yannick Hanfmann, who is a solid player and played really well at times. It was a slow match in ways because both players had trouble cruising through their early service games.
The score after 26 minutes of play was 2-1 for Murray and 3-2 after 44 minutes of play. Eventually, the Brit did take the 5-2 lead but couldn't finish it off as Hanfmann kept himself in the match.
Eventually, Murray found a way to win the opening set, which lasted an incredible 84 minutes. The...

In Hulu’s “Only Murders in the Building,” Season 3’s newest star Meryl Streep plays Loretta Durkin, a scatter-brained and quirky struggling actor. When set decorator Rich Murray got the creative brief, he was told, “She’s charming and warm and has lived in the same studio apartment for the past 35 to 40 years.” With that, Murray peppered in Easter eggs galore as an homage to Streep’s illustrious career.
Murray first had to come up with a concept for the space, and found inspiration from the 1951 film “An American in Paris.” Jerry Mulligan’s (Gene Kelly) apartment was ideal. “It has a lot of built-in quirkiness with drop-down, pull-down things,” says Murray. “Everyone has everything so neatly finessed, tucked in and tightened cornered, and so we sort of pull from that.”
Aside from showrunner John Hoffman’s initial brief, Murray got no other notes on design requirements, so he “decided...

We’ve had the pleasure of featuring the diverse and exploratory work of Erin Murray here on Dn since 2016 and her latest piece I Don’t Need To Know – written, directed and starring the filmmaker – sees the prolific multi-hyphenate artist explore an alternative facet of her creative endeavours with delightful results. An apparently innocuous day out for one couple suddenly turns sour as Murray’s character, leaning inspirationally on personal conversations about sex, decides to cajole her partner into discussing a hidden facet of their relationship with an outwardly innocent question about sexual fantasies. I Don’t Need To Know combines quick-witted back-and-forth dialogue, brilliantly delivered by Murray alongside Al Warren, with well planned out camera angles which come together to form a wholly absorbing four minute comedy short. It was a pleasure to catch up with Murray again to speak about using all of the possible angels in the car,...

When the late Sidney Poitier embarked on a movie career in the early 1950s, he entered an industry with a history of depicting Black people in the most negative fashion. The Birth of a Nation, the seminal 1915 silent film, had set the template – portraying African American characters as sex-crazed and subhuman.
“Then Sidney Poitier comes along singlehandedly smashing decades of racist iconography and turning it all on its head,” said Reginald Hudlin, director of the Apple TV+ documentary Sidney. “Him doing it at the same time as the Civil Rights Movement is making these political gains, he changed the global image of Black people on Earth.”

Andy Murray is more determined than ever to compete for Wimbledon titles, despite still being limited by his health.
Former world number one and three-time Grand Slam champion has revealed his ambition to compete for Wimbledon titles once again, even though his body may not allow him to do that. After the 2023 Madrid Open loss, Murray was asked if he's going to compete at the Roland Garros and he expressed his desire to do that as he may not get another chance.
But when answering the question about the clay-court Grand Slam tournament, Murray mentioned also probably his favourite place in the world, the All England Club, where he won two major titles and one Olympic Gold Medal. He revealed that he still has an ambition to fight for titles there, even though that may seem to be unrealistic now.

Andy Murray will not take a rest from clay court season just yet as the Brit received a wildcard entry to the upcoming Aix-en-Provence Atp Challenger event.
Murray has endured a troubling start to the 2023 clay court season and his disappointing run continued with a first-round defeat at the Madrid Open against Andrea Vavassori. New Delhi, April 28 (Ians) After suffering his third straight Atp Masters 1000 opening-round defeat at the Madrid Open, former world No. 1 British Andy Murray hinted that he could make his first appearance at Roland Garros since 2020.
The British former world number one lost 6-3, 7-6(7) to Italian Andrea Vavassori in the first round on Thursday, his second opening-round loss on clay after losing Alex de Minaur in Monte-Carlo.
Eyeing his first win on clay this season, the Brit could compete in Rome, where he has not competed since 2017. Beyond that, Murray has been targeting a return to the French Open next month, which would be his only second appearance on Parisian clay since his run to the 2017 semifinals.
Clarifying his thinking on Roland Garros, Murray said he was hoping to play in the year’s second Grand Slam.
“There are a few different opinions in my team about what I should be doing.

Andy Murray, seeking his first clay win this season, eyes Roland Garros despite setbacks, uncertain of future opportunities.
After suffering three consecutive Atp Masters 1000 opening round defeats, including a recent loss to Andrea Vavassori at the Madrid Open, Andy Murray finds himself at a crossroads. Despite these setbacks, the former world number one has expressed his desire to compete at Roland Garros, fueled by the uncertainty of how many chances he may have left to do so.
Since 2018, the former world no. 1 competed only once at the Roland Garros, with a first-round loss to Stan Wawrinka after receiving a wild card. Despite never winning the event, the clay-court Grand Slam is the second most-successful for the Scot in terms of winning percentage, having won 78% of matches he played there (compared to 77% at Australian Open and 76% at US Open).

Andy Murray experienced a bad loss at the 2023 Madrid Open but the worst was probably his miss in the second-set tie-break.
The former world no. 1 lost the first set 2-6, but he had a chance to win the second set to take the match into a decider. But a terrible miss at 6-6 in the tie-break eventually proved to be too costly as Murray was defeated by Andrea Vavassori.
After the match, the main talking point of the first-round clash became the miss that the 35-year-old experienced player was able to produce and therefore it was not a surprise when he was asked about it during the post-match press conference.

The former world no. 1 lost the first set 2-6, but he had a chance to win the second set to take the match into a decider. But a terrible miss at 6-6 in the tie-break eventually proved to be too costly as Murray was defeated by Andrea Vavassori.

Andy Murray suffered a painful loss in the first round of the 2023 Madrid Open and extended his losing streak to four matches.
It all started going south for the Scot when he lost to compatriot Jack Draper in Indian Wells. Murray then also lost to Dusan Lajovic in Miami and his third consecutive loss came on the clay courts of the Monte-Carlo Country Club. At the 2023 Madrid Open, the former world no. 1 wanted to turn his luck around and the draw of the Atp 1000 event made it possible for him to do that.
Murray was drawn against world no. 164 Andrea Vavassori and so his chances of getting past the first obstacle were very high. Although, he initially considered skipping the clay-court season, Murray even added an Atp Challenger event on clay to his calendar and so he was surely hoping for a good showing in the Spanish capital.

Review: When the first season of Sweet Tooth premiered back in 2021, I called it the show of the summer. The CW is partnering with CTV and Fremantle on Sullivan’s Crossing, a drama series based on Robyn Carr’s bestselling book.
CW alums Chad Michael Murray (One Tree Hill) and Scott Patterson (Gilmore Girls) will join Morgan Kohan (Batwoman) in the drama that follows a star neurosurgeon (Kohan) who appears to have it all until her business partner is indicted for fraud and she finds herself charged with negligence. She leaves Boston to return to her home of Sullivan’s Crossing, a remote campground by her estranged father Sully (Patterson). There, she meets a newcomer named Cal Jones (Murray).
The 10-episode first season, which is airing on CTV in Canada, is targeted for this fall.
“Sullivan’s Crossing is an emotionally rich, authentic family drama that will immediately resonate with audiences thanks to an incredible cast and relatable themes of self-reflection, second chances and the power of community,” said Brad Schwartz, CW’s entertainment president.

Three former Grand Slam champions, Andy Murray, Stan Wawrinka, and Dominic Thiem, will enter the BNP Paribas Primrose Bordeaux Atp Challenger event in May 2023.
The three high-profile entrants come as a shock for the Challenger event and the trio will be looking to use the competition to build form and fitness ahead of the 2023 Roland Garros. Thiem has had a poor start to the 2023 campaign, crashing out in the first rounds at the Australian Open and Indian Wells, while Wawrinka has also struggled for form in the opening stages of this season.
But Murray's entry to the Paribas Primrose Bordeaux is perhaps most surprising after the British player admitted that he was considering skipping the remainder of the clay season entirely following a straight-set first-round loss against Alex de Minaur. After the defeat, Murray's downbeat response suggested he might not return on clay again in 2023.

Singer, actor, producer and activist Harry Belafonte, who spawned a calypso craze in the U.S. with his music and blazed new trails for African-American performers, has died of congestive heart failure at his Manhattan home. He was 96.
An award-winning Broadway performer and a versatile recording and concert star of the ’50s, the lithe, handsome Belafonte became one of the first black leading men in Hollywood. He later branched into production work on theatrical films and telepics.
As his career stretched into the new millennium, his commitment to social causes never took a back seat to his professional work.
An intimate of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., he was an important voice in the ’60s civil rights movement, and he later embarked on charitable activities on behalf of underdeveloped African nations. He was an outspoken opponent of South Africa’s apartheid policies.

“This is a sincere and deeply felt apology,” he said in the statement. “Though never my intention to offend anyone, I told jokes, nothing more, that upset some of my colleagues and as a result lost a great job with wonderful people. Mad About You might have sharply focused on the relationship between Paul and Jamie Buchman, but those closest to the couple were integral to the show’s success. Paul and Jamie’s friends and family made regular appearances. Those appearances wove a rich tapestry of interconnected storylines that made the show special. Jamie’s best friend and former boss, Fran Devanow, portrayed by Leila Kenzle, was an important fixture in the original series. Jamie’s sister, Lisa Stemple, and Paul’s cousin, Ira Buchman, were equally important. Lis and Ira both returned for the 2019 reboot. Fran, however, was nowhere to be found. There was a good reason for that. Leila Kenzle retired from acting after Mad About You.

Say it ain’t so, Schmoopie! After 10 seasons and 229 side-busting episodes, we’re saying goodbye to ABC’s ’80s-based sitcom The Goldbergs. Based on the life of series creator Adam F. Goldberg, the comedy explored the gnarliest decade via big-loving mom Beverly (Wendi McLendon-Covey), bombastic father Murray (Jeff Garlin) and their three children: aspiring singer Erica (Hayley Orrantia), wired Barry (Troy Gentile) and video camera–toting Adam (Sean Giambrone) — as well as Beverly’s rascally father Albert “Pops” Solomon (George Segal). “Adam always had a very specific vision, and he really established just a great template for a family comedy,” says executive producer Alex Barnow. That included Goldberg’s real home video footage at the end of most episodes. Time travel to 1980-something — a phrase heard in each episode after the pilot — and relive this most excellent sitcom. F. Murray Abraham’s exit from Mythic Quest is the subject of a recent media report surrounding alleged sexual misconduct allegations made about him during his time on the Apple TV+ series.

F. Murray Abraham’s sudden exit from “Mythic Quest” last April was due to sexual misconduct complaints, according to a Monday report from Rolling Stone.
Although the exact nature of his behavior was not detailed, a production source said that Abraham was “given a warning and told to keep away from some of the show’s actresses.” After a second complaint, series creator and star Rob McElhenney opted to let him go, Rolling Stone reports.
“It’s a bummer to not have Murray in this season,” McElhenney told Variety at the time of saying goodbye to Abraham’s character, sci-fi author C.W. Longbottom. “But we recognize that C.W. is a beloved character and obviously a huge part of the show. So, we made sure that we have a really fitting tribute to him. We definitely address it in a big way.”
