Those who attain a gatekeeper role in Hollywood don’t usually aspire to be on the other end of the submissions pile. But in the digital age, the traditional entertainment career ladder has disappeared. For Theo Dumont and Daniel Sol, who have spent a decade organizing the HollyShorts Film Festival, producing their own content was the next career step. “It’s a natural evolution for us,” Dumont told Backstage. Not that they’re entirely greenhorns; Sol produced and starred in the 2009 low-budget indie feature “Night Before the Wedding.” The partners have grown the festival from screenings of about 20 shorts in 2005 to a venue that showcased some 400 short films earlier this year. Now Dumont and Sol are taking similar steps as their attendees—they’ve set up a Kickstarter page and are trying to generate buzz for a production through social media. Dumont said they’ve received in-kind donations and are...

Crossfire
Stars: Curtis ’50 Cent’ Jackson, Forest Whittaker, Robert DeNiro | Written by L. Philippe Casseus | Directed by Jessy Terrero
Jonas “Malo” Moldanado is the son of a slain police officer who joins the NYPD (50 Cent) as a rookie cop and is taken in under the wing of a veteran vice officer, Sarcone, played by De Niro. But while Malo is tasked with cleaning up both the force and the streets, corrupt Sarcone and his crew have a very different way of tackling vice. The young rookie soon gets an education in the reality on the street as it becomes apparent that cops are the biggest hustlers out there.
Oh how the mighty have fallen.
Crossfire comes from 50 Cent’s own production company and features Mr. Wooden himself (aka Fiddy Cent) in the lead and Forest Whittaker and Robert DeNiro seemingly slumming it up in a low-budget, horrendously scripted crime “thriller” which...

The Movie Pool goes rogue for the Freelancers Blu-ray!
The Set-up
A rookie NYC cop (Curtis "50 Cent" Jackson) finds that his training officer is part of a band of crooked cops, whose leader (Robert DeNiro) protects the city's organized crime. Also stars Forest Whitaker and Dana Delaney.
Directed by: Jessy Terrero
The Delivery
Freelancers is a convoluted cop film that tries to be Training Day, but gets dragged down by multiple pointless character arcs and a mumbling performance from rapper turned actor Curtis "50 Cent" Jackson. That's really too bad, because despite Jackson's lack of acting skills and a cliche-ridden script, there's actually a decent cop movie here.
Mind you, this isn't Heat or Copland or anything close to that, but Freelancers is watchable when it isn't tripping itself up. Terrero seems like a competent director, and the films certainly looks good, but the script by L. Philippe Casseus tries way...

Rock of Ages
Malin Akerman ("Watchmen") has scored the last major role in the Adam Shankman-directed Broadway musical film adaptation "Rock of Ages" for Warner Bros. Pictures says Vulture.
Akerman will portray Constance, an aggressive music journalist who is hell-bent on writing an expose on rocker Stacee Jaxx (Tom Cruise), then ends up having an affair with him.
Anne Hathaway and Amy Adams turned down the role after signing on for "The Dark Knight Rises" and "Man of Steel" respectively. Shooting kicks off next month in Florida.
Piranha 3Dd
Christopher Lloyd, Ving Rhames and Paul Scheer have all signed on to join the cast of "Piranha 3Dd" reports Yahoo.

The Bruce Willis - 50 Cent pact is back for an indie film and they will be joined by Josh Duhamel. Willis and the rapper previously teamed up in a thriller titled "Setup", which is likely to go straight to DVD after a series of bad reviews.
"Fire with Fire" is a production of Emmett/Furla and Cheetah Vision, and is directed by David Barrett using a script by Tom O'Connor. According to Variety, it centers on a fireman in the witness protection program. When he's threatened by the man he plans to testify against, he takes matters into his own hands to save the love of his life.
Production is due to start on June 27 and would be marketed by Voltage Pictures at Cannes International Film Festival next week. Pic is part of a 10-picture deal announced last fall that includes "Setup" and "Freelancers". The latter has just nabbed Dana Delany...

Robert De Niro will be returning to one of the roles he knows best. Sadly he won’t be playing another gangster, but he will be playing a cop. Good enough, right? The actor is set to star in Freelancers, the new film coming from director Jessy Terrero. De Niro will be joining Curtis Jackson (50 Cent) in the cop drama which starts filming in New Orleans on April 18.
The script comes from L. Philippe Casseus and follows the story of “the son of a slain NYPD officer who, with his two best friends, joins the Police Academy. After graduating, he’s taken under the wing of his father’s former partner Captain Vic Sarcone (De Niro) in the ranks of Sarcone’s Street Vice Crime Task Force and he becomes part of Scarcone’s rogue task force.” Jackson will play the role of the son joining the task force.

Robert DeNiro, who is still one of the utmost actors, but unfortunately just cashing another paycheque in Limitless role, has just signed up for his second 50 Cent movie named Freelancers.
Deadline reports that the superstar, once known for such a films like Taxi Driver and Raging Bull, will star in Freelancers, the first flick since Righteous Kill that will see him performing opposite G-Unit’s most famous member.
Forest Whitaker (Bird, Ghost Dog) is also in talks to join the movie, which is developed by 50 Cent’s production company Cheetah Vision, co-founded by Fiddy and Randall Emmett.
Up to now Cheetah Vision has mostly produced in abundant and automatic manner straight-to-video pieces of poor quality like Before I Self Destruct, Caught in the Crossfire and Gun as well as Setup, starring Bruce Willis that will be released theatrically later this year.
