Harry Reid, the by-turns scrappy, mild-mannered and acid-tongued former Democratic Senate leader, has died of pancreatic cancer. Reid was 82.
Reid was a dominating figure in Democratic politics for decades, using his home base in Nevada to rise to the top of the Senate. As majority leader from 2007 to 2015, Reid proved a steady hand, guiding passage of the bank bailouts, the Recovery Act and the Dodd/Frank re-regulation of Wall Street. A relatively modest, low-key tale about global refugee issues that are usually portrayed in a higher dramatic key, “The Flood” makes a somewhat underwhelming first impression. But it gradually overcomes that to arrive at a potent (if still quiet) cumulative impact, bolstered by strong performances from leads Ivanno Jeremiah and Lena Headey. A nonstarter on theatrical home turf nearly a year ago, the feature should do better in home formats, with Samuel Goldwyn launching release to Stateside VOD platforms on May 1.
Helen Kingston’s screenplay initially seems too arid and schematic, as Headey’s grimly impersonal English immigration officer Wendy interviews newly-arrived asylum seeker Haile (Jeremiah). He says he can’t return to his native Eritrea because, “They will kill me.” But the flashbacks detailing his flight feel too sketchy as explanation, with gaps larger than our imaginations can easily fill in.

"England will not want you." "I've always been unwanted..." Samuel Goldwyn Films has debuted an official Us trailer for an indie drama titled The Flood, which originally opened in the UK last summer. It will be available to watch on digital in the Us starting in early May. The film presents an intriguing, dramatic look at the challenges of immigration and the ongoing refugee crisis in Europe. The story follows a "hardened immigration officer" named Wendy, and an asylum seeker named Haile who has traveled great distances to reach the UK hoping to stay there. Lena Headey stars, joined by Ivanno Jeremiah playing Haile, and a cast including Iain Glen, Arsher Ali, Mandip Gill, Amira Ghazalla, Jack Gordon, and Christopher Sciueref. This looks like a compelling and gripping film about the times we live in with mass immigration worldwide. And a very powerful statement about refugees and why it's all...

"You understand, when you are trying to cross borders, the only people that will help you... are dangerous people." Curzon Cinemas in the UK has debuted an official trailer for a fascinating indie drama titled The Flood, from director Anthony Woodley. The film presents an intriguing, dramatic look at the challenges of immigration and the ongoing refugee crisis in Europe. The story follows a "hardened immigration officer" named Wendy, and an asylum seeker named Haile who has traveled great distances to reach the UK hoping to stay there. Lena Headey stars, with Ivanno Jeremiah playing Haile, and a cast including Iain Glen, Arsher Ali, Mandip Gill, Amira Ghazalla, Jack Gordon, and Christopher Sciueref. This looks so much more thought-provoking and compelling than you're probably expecting it to be, and doesn't seem to be pandering to any one audience. I recommend watching the trailer, it might convince you to see this film.

We’ve reached the quarter-final stage of “The Masked Singer” with just 6 of the 12 stars still in the competition. Of these half dozen, who all sang on February 13, we are absolutely certain about the identity of one: the Alien. After watching all of her performances plus the clue videos, we are now even more convinced that we know the name of the famous face hidden behind that elaborate mask. Spoilers Ahead.
The Alien is La Toya Jackson. Don’t be fooled by Robin Thicke who has repeatedly insisted the Alien is model Bella Hadid. Likewise don’t be led astray by those observations from Nicole Scherzinger and Ken Jeong that she has the same build Paula Abdul.
Week Five Spoilers: Who are the Lion, Rabbit

Episode 5 of “The Masked Singer” marked the first time that celebrities from the two tracks came together to compete. Among the four that faced off on the January 30 episode was the Alien. She was back onstage just a week after she rocked the house with a cover of “Lovefool” by The Cardigans. This followed on her sensational debut in episode 2 with “Feel It Still” by Portugal. The Man.
Every performance given by the Alien is preceded by a video that is loaded with clues. After three appearances we are now even more convinced that we know the name of the famous face hidden behind that elaborate mask. Spoilers Ahead

The second episode of “The Masked Singer” on Wednesday (Jan. 9), featured another half dozen celebrities. Each of them was completely hidden inside an animal costume with their faces covered by an elaborate mask. They were paired up and the loser of each sing-off was at risk of being eliminated. Of the three also-rans, it was the Pineapple who was sent packing. Before leaving the stage, he was unmasked and revealed to be comedian Tommy Chong.
We’ve already posted our theories as to who the winners of both his sing-off — the Raven — and the other two — the Rabbit and the Bee — really are. Now we turn to the first of the two acts that lost their sing-off but won the right to sing again: the Alien.
She performed in the first of the three match-ups against the Rabbit and had the whole crowd rocking to “Feel It Still” by Portugal.

The spotlight shone brightly on Loretta revealing some things that she'd rather be kept hidden.
We got to find out quite a bit about NCIS: New Orleans' mother hen on NCIS: New Orleans Season 3 Episode 15, which is something I applaud.
This was all smoothly accomplished through a copycat murder that brought up ghosts for Loretta.
It was good to see what unhinges Loretta, who is generally so steady and so strong.
We were given a more layered portrait of Loretta, who, it turns out, was the victim of an abusive marriage.
It makes sense that Loretta is being reflective. Her son Danny has enlisted in the Navy while surrogate son Sebastian is leaving the lab, at least part time.
Sebastian: You're like the mother I never had.
Loretta: You have a mother. I've met her.
Sebastian: Exactly.

On the new CBS sitcom “The Great Indoors,” Joel McHale plays Jack Gordon, an outdoors magazine writer whose boss (Stephen Fry) brings him back to the city to herd a team of millennials. McHale, of course, became famous for playing another smartass, ex-lawyer Jack Winger on NBC’s “Community.” TheWrap recently spoke with McHale about both shows, his new book and the inevitable problems with former costar Chevy Chase. TheWrap: Is “Great Indoors” really about sticking it to millennials? Joel McHale: No, that is a fallacy. That got perpetuated at the TCA event. This millennial reporter lost her mind.

The Great Indoors‘ Jack Gordon is the outdoorsy type, a Gen-Xer who prefers hanging out with bears in the wild and who thinks that people still fax. The digital division of Outdoor Limits magazine are social media whizzes who unironically love participation trophies.
The tug of war between the two factions is at the heart of the new CBS comedy, which premiered Thursday and which mocks both stuck-in-the-old-ways Jack and thin-skinned millennials like his new co-workers Clark (Superbad‘s Christopher Mintz-Plasse), Emma (Christine Ko) and Mason (Shaun Brown). Whose side you take likely depends on in what decade you were born.

Raindance Film Festival kicks off next week with a wide array of features and shorts. Among the films in competition for Best UK Feature is the thriller Love/Me/Do, the first fiction feature by Martin Stitt. A veteran of both actual wars and the war that is the financial world, Stitt started in filmmaking about 10 years ago, and his shorts have played some big festivals, including Sundance and Venice. For his first foray into a longer fiction film, Stitt entered that land mine-laden world of love and sex, and how trust can be found through good deeds, but perhaps as often, through bad ones. Antonia (Sarah Calder, Youth), an investment banker with a troubled past, and Max (Jack Gordon, Northern Soul), an out-of-work actor, are an odd...

In the United Kingdom, just like any other country, we have our tales of gangsters and crooks that become legendary, not only for the crime but for the characters who took part in them. One of the biggest legends was The Great Train Robbery, which personally I first found out about through Buster starring Phil Collins, and now of course we have the BBC mini-series that was shown at the end of 2013, and is now released on DVD.
The Great Train Robbery comes in two parts, first looking at the robbery from the view-point of the criminals themselves, then the hunt which focuses on the police and their struggles to capture each member of the gang. With more of a focus on Bruce Reynolds (Luke Evans), the so-called mastermind and planner of the robbery the drama looks to take the glamour out of the tale, not focusing on the characters...

Kids. Such as Sex, Lies, and Videotape or Reservoir Dogs before it, and such as Winter’s Bone, Blue Valentine and Fruitvale Station after it, Larry Clark & Harmony Korine’s seminal film is forever connected in “spirit” to the lieu where it received its secret midnight premiere screening in 1995. The Sundance Film Festival might be known as the birthplace of U.S indie filmmaking innovation, avant-gardism, a larger definition of the low budgeted film response to Hollywood in not only narrative but in the non-fiction form, but it is a festival made strong by its renewal and familiarity. That close acquaintanceness exists in Kids‘ starlets Rosario Dawson and Chloë Sevigny filmography/career path trajectory and connection to Park City (both have several indie films slated for ’14 – of which I’ve included in our predictions list) and it is that “familiarity” that is visibly noticeable in how I map out my annual predictions list.

Obi Abili, the British-Nigerian star of the upcoming Curacao slave revolt action/drama Tula, The Revolt, just wrapped shooting in Argentina, on what will be his next film, The Rules of The Game, directed by the UK’s Ed McGown - his feature film debut. Abili is member of a cast that features Jack Gordon, Jack Doolan, Charlie Bewley and Mike Noble. Details on what the film, which is based on an award-winning short film, is about exactly are sparse, other than this one-line cryptic description that calls it an adventure film about the perfect revenge gone wrong. So it's not a remake of Jean Renoir's 1939 classic of the same name. The script was penned by Sam...

This Saturday, May 11th, director Sean Hogan's horror flick The Devil's Business (review) makes its premiere on the UK's Horror Channel (much better than the long rumored American Horror Channel, whom we wish well), and we've got a quick Q&A for ya! Check it out!
Billy Clarke, Jack Gordon, and Jonathan Hansler star.
Q: How did The Devil’s Business come together?
Sean Hogan: I’d been waiting a long time for another project to come together, and out of sheer frustration, I had a meeting with my producer Jen Handorf one night and proposed that we make something for very little money, just to get back in the saddle. I’d recently seen Down Terrace and really liked it, and my feeling was that you didn’t need a whole lot of money to make something, just a good script, talented actors and one location. So...

Keith Wright's very funny and surprisingly touching tale investigates a mystery illness turning men in the north of England into something resembling bloodthirsty ghouls. One such victim is Harold (Stan Rowe), an old man whose transformation into something sub-human might just be arrested by the love of Penny (Sarah Spencer), a dedicated home care nurse. But a group of vigilantes have other ideas.

The first film will star Fast & Furious 6 actor Luke Evans as Bruce Reynolds, the mastermind behind the famous heist.

Jack Roth (Bedlam) will play Reynolds's childhood friend Charlie Wilson, with Utopia's Neil Maskell cast as ambitious Ronald 'Buster' Edwards and The Sweeney's Paul Anderson set to play professional Gordon Goody.

The official teaser trailer for The Body, starring Alfie Allen of "Game of Thrones," arrived online; and we have it right here for your viewing pleasure. Check out the sly peek into this short right here.
In addition to Allen, The Body stars Hannah Tointon ("The Inbetweeners"), Jack Gordon (Panic Button) and Christian Brassington (Burke and Hare). It was co-written and produced by Paul Fischer for Ten Cent Adventures (Radioman) and co-written and directed by Paul Davis (Him Indoors).
"It's a movie about facades and how we perceive things," director Davis said. Written and directed by Alex Barrett, serving as his feature directorial debut and premiered at this year’s Edinburgh Film Festival, Life Just Is follows four university graduates living in London – Pete (Jack Gordon), Tom (Nathaniel Martello-White), Claire (Fiona Ryan>) and Jay (Jayne Wisener) – who find themselves having trouble making the move into adult life. As they hang out, throw parties, and attempt to navigate their new responsibilities, romantic tensions stir and desires to find a spiritual answer to life’s meaning arise, as the true meaning of their friendships are put to the test.
Freeing himself from any distractions due to the film’s small budget, Barrett’s directorial style is very simple, but Life Just Is avoids the flaws of many independent films and doesn’t fall flat to inexpensive looking frames or poor definitions. With minimal cinematic interferences and the use of only a couple of sets,...
