Production company Shine has confirmed earlier reports that it would expand from reality into drama with the announcement of mini-series Never Tear Us Apart: The Untold Story of Inxs.
Commissioned by Seven, the show “promises an authentic, behind the scenes look at what really happened – childhood mates from Sydney who were once the biggest rock and roll band in the world – beyond the music, the lights and the roar of a sell-out crowd,” according to a press release.
The two-part series will be executive produced by Mark Fennessy CEO and president of Shine Australia and Rory Callaghan, the company’s executive director.
While Shine has been one of Australia’s top reality production houses, Never Tear Us Apart will be the company’s first drama production. It follows the March appointment of Rory Callaghan, formerly of Southern Star, one of the premiere TV drama houses in the country.
Fennessy said:...

The four-hour project – reportedly commissioned by Seven – is the third currently in the works around the famed singer who died in 1997.
Shine, which is also behind reality series The Voice, Masterchef and The Biggest Loser, declined to comment.
Us film and TV industry news site Deadline, report the series with the working title Never Tear Us Apart: The Inxs Story is scheduled to begin shooting in Melbourne mid next year.

Michael Hutchence
The story of Inxs front man Michael Hutchence is set to be turned into a film, Two Worlds Colliding.
Just a Man – The Real Michael Hutchence, a book by the singer’s sister Tina Hutchence and his mother Patricia Glassop, is a look into the singer’s career as well as private life until his death in a Sydney hotel room in 1997.
The book has been acquired by Trevor Ray Field who, along with Suzy Marovski with Robert Galinsky, executive producing. Galinsky will also write the screenplay.
Galinsky told Encore: “I chased the idea 12 years ago but there was so much litigation and family issues, it looked too harsh. But recently I was made aware of Trevor Ray Field who was good friends of Tina Hutchence and he brought me the book. Over the course of the last month we negotiated the rights with Tina and we hit the mark.

An Australian-based producer is in talks with automotive brands to invest in a big budget road film, which may see Ryan Gosling to star.
Robert Galinsky’s film Dust and Glory is about a famous Outback car race in the 1950s. Peugeot, which won the race in 1953, has already come on board as a principal development sponsor.
Galinsky told Encore: “We’re in advanced discussions with some oil companies, tyre companies, and confectionery companies to include them in the film. We’re re-creating those products and taking them back to the 50s.”
While Peugeot Australia is a principal sponsor, Galinsky is in discussion with parent company Peugeot Paris to integrate with the film across worldwide promotions.

New York — Robert Galinsky's students were predominantly white when he taught acting. Now that he tries to help people break into a different form of show business as operator of the New York Reality TV School, about half of his students are racial minorities.
That accounts for his skepticism about claims by producers of ABC's "The Bachelor" series that they've had a hard time finding black singles willing to be on the show.
The nearly all-white racial makeup of the series (and its spinoff, "The Bachelorette") has simmered as an issue for years. Now it's in the forefront with the filing of a lawsuit last week by two black men from Nashville, Tenn., who say they were given little consideration when they tried to get on the show.

English director Simon West has been brought on to direct Dust and Glory.
The Expendables 2 and Tomb Raider director will helm the story set in the 1950s, following a car race that covered 10,000km around Australia and focused on the rivalry between an American driver and his Australian counterpart.

Along with Galinsky’s Top Cat Media partners Elizabeth Howatt-Jackman (Prey, Hating Alison Ashley) and David Parker (The Big Steal, Matching Jack), Blue Star Entertainment’s Jason Shuman and William Sherak (Role Models) will produce.
Galinsky said: “Simon West was our top choice and couldn’t be more perfectly suited to tell this story. We are beyond excited to have him.”

Briefly: Simon West, the director of Con Air, The Expendables 2, and the Nic Cage film Stolen that we just mentioned this morning [1], is now in talks to make a new 'racing romance' called Dust and Glory. THR [2] says the film is based on a novel by Evan Green, which is set during the Redex trials [3] of the '50s. That is, a race that covered thousands of miles of very difficult Australian landscape. In fact, the trade says the book and resulting script (by Robert Lewis Galinsky) is something like Mad Max crossed with Jewel of the Nile. (What, a Romancing the Stone reference wasn't available?) There's no casting yet; producers of the indie hope to cast the film by the end of this year, and shoot in Australia by summer 2012. West, meanwhile, has to finish The Expendables 2, and he's also set to direct the mo-cap CGI war film [4] Thunder Run.

Simon West is a busy man. The Con Air auteur is in the midst of shooting The Expendables 2, will release Medallion (more on that in a second) just a few months apart from the sequel, and has Thunder Run either in production or prepping to shoot. Somehow, THR informs us that he’s in talks for yet another project, Dust and Glory. Based on Evan Green‘s romantic adventure novel, the story is set during “the 1950s’ Redex trials, which covered more than 10,000 miles of some of the toughest racing terrain in Australia, if not the world.” The actual plot — adapted by Robert Lewis Galinsky and noted as “a cross between Mad Max and Jewel of the Nile” — follows “the rivalry between an American hotshot and an Australian legend.”
Top Cat Productions and Blue Star Entertainment will be independently producing the film, which is expected to go before cameras this coming summer in Australia.

Simon West most recently directed The Expendables 2 and also directed films such as The Generals Daughter, Tomb Raider, The Mechanic, and more. This seems like a film project that completely fits the directing talent of West and it would be great if he ended up taking on the project.

1) The 15-second principleWhen you perform a 90-second to three-minute monologue, audiences don't have the benefit of knowing the surrounding story or background. So tell them the who, what, when, and where of the monologue in the first 15 seconds. By giving your listeners this information right away, you'll give them the advantage of knowing the greater context of the piece, allowing them to go on the journey with you. If the monologue starts without the listener knowing whom you're talking to, it won't be colored by your relationship to that person. As an example, try this with any monologue: Add "Mom" to the very beginning and see how everything you say thereafter allows the audience to imagine what mom's reactions are and how your words are being delivered in terms of how you should—or shouldn't—talk to mom.2) Who are you afraid of?When performing your monologue, you must address...
