“True Detective” season four, officially titled “True Detective: Night Country,” has returned the HBO crime series to its former glories after seasons two and three disappointed. This entry follows Jodie Foster as a police chief investigating the vanishing of eight men in the spooky, fictional town of Ennis, Alaska.
One of many things, along with the eerie town and Lovecraftian seasoning, that makes this series so excellent is its cast. Two-time Oscar-winner Foster is joined by a trio of other veterans — Christopher Eccleston, Fiona Shaw, and John Hawkes — plus a pair of newcomers: former boxer Kali Reis and rising star Finn Bennett. Bennett plays police Officer Peter Prior, the son of Hawkes’ Captain Prior, and he turns in a nuanced, memorable performance. Critics have agreed, too, he makes the strongest impression amongst the series’ supporting cast.
Caryn James (BBC) opined: ‘Bennett is vivid and convincing as Peter Prior, a smart...

Sam Smith released their fourth studio album “Gloria” on Friday, January 27, a few months after they reached the top of the Billboard Hot 100 singles chart with “Unholy” featuring Kim Petras. Is the entire album just as big a hit as that song has been? Reviews have been coming in from music critics.
As of this writing the album has a MetaCritic score of 72 based on four reviews counted thus far: two positive and two somewhat mixed. On the positive end of the spectrum, Nick Levine (NME) calls “Gloria” “the most vital work of their career … mixing classy downbeat pop with moments of disco catharsis.” He adds that “Smith’s soulful voice is stunning throughout” and that the album is “rich musically, thematically and above all, emotionally.”

Eight-piece boybands, middle-aged men dressed as Egyptians getting honey rubbed on their chests, Louis Walsh being... Louis Walsh. Yes, this series of X Factor might not have been the most thrilling, but even in a non-vintage year, there has been plenty to laugh at and enjoy.
This evening's final features Fleur East, Ben Haenow and Andrea Faustini battling for the prize of a record contract and the chance to hit the charts in time for Christmas. All the betting and polls seem to suggest that it's a one-horse race with Fleur running away with it, but The X Factor has thrown up surprises in the past, so nothing can be ruled out.

Christmas came early for X Factor fans as the final four - Andrea Faustini, Lauren Platt, Fleur East and Ben Haenow - got into the festive spirit in the semi-final showdown.
However, for one unlucky act, Santa Cowell Claus will be delivering a lump of coal rather than a record contract.

The X Factor returned in grand style tonight (August 30), as Simon Cowell, Cheryl Fernandez-Versini, Mel B and Louis Walsh met a new crop of aspiring pop stars.

Once upon a time, just ten nine years ago, The X Factor was something that you had to account for when hoping not to run into a former flame in a smoky club, One Direction was a mere geographical command and Wagner was still the guy who wrote this.
Since then, we've gone from Eton Road to Kingsland Road, Tabby Callaghan to Sam Callahan and G4 to 4G (okay, maybe not the last one). But while some things change, others stay the same, and one more act will be leaving the competition before the night is out. But who will it be?

Chris Brown always seems to be coming back from something or other. Following his arrest and guilty plea for assaulting then-girlfriend Rihanna in February of 2009, Brown returned to the music world with Graffiti, which received mixed reviews and was not embraced by the market. Slowly but surely, he has been building up his reputation again, mostly on the strength of some killer singles ("Deuces," his collaboration with Tyga and Kevin McCall from the Fan of a Fan mixtape, was one of the best songs of 2010). So that makes F.A.M.E. something of a comeback album for Brown, whose voice and performance charisma have never been denied.
F.A.M.E. finds Brown exploring new avenues in R&B, hip-hop and especially dance music. Brown recently told MTV News that his fourth album is the best yet at showing off all the sides of his creative mind.
So does F.
