Read More: Why Indie Horror Films Are Doing Better Than Ever Chris Alexander, Toronto-based Fangoria Magazine editor, is gearing up for his fourth film "Blackglovekiller," a new psychological horror film starring rock legends Peter Murphy and Nivek Ogre. According to the official synopsis, "Blackglovekiller" is "an erotic, violent fever dream driven by mood, music and atmosphere following the bloody trail of Miranda, a beautiful predator who stalks the city streets at night looking for prey and sits in her gilded cage by day, waiting for the sun to set. As her wave of death escalates, fantasy and reality begin to blur, pushing Miranda closer to the ultimate revelation about who she is and what she must become." Alexander, whose previous films include "Blood for Irina" and "Queen of Blood," has expressed a love for female protagonists and dreamy atmospheres, and it seems as though "Blackglovekiller" will...

"Alfred Hitchcock is the latest installment in Peter Ackroyd’s ongoing Brief Lives series," notes Peter Murphy in the Irish Times. "He’s probably written footnotes longer than this book; at 250 pages odd it’s a mere pamphlet compared with Bible-sized behemoths such as London: The Biography or Thames: Sacred River. In that light, Alfred Hitchcock seems less like a labor of obsessive love than a pleasurable dalliance." In the Financial Times, Ian Thomson agrees: "For all its insight, Peter Ackroyd’s biography is a deft synthesis of numerous other studies of 'Alfred the Great'; it is well written, however, and unusually well attuned to the religious element." Johnathan|Christian, the haunting new transatlantic project from American composer Johnathan Mooney (The New Creatures) and Swedish dark-rocker Christian Granquist (The Atom) have produced not one but two impressive debuts: the full-length album Beautiful Hideous arrived late last year, earning major props across the gothic, industrial, darkwave and other alternative music press; the band followed up that success this month with a remix of the single “I Walk This Earth Alone,” featuring the talents of Danish industrial music legend Leæther Strip (a.k.a. Clause Larsen), and the two records combined represent some the best of old and new gothic rock/darkwave styles, strongly reminiscent of early death-rock legends Christian Death and '80s goth icons Sisters of Mercy, but with a modern production sheen. The band's songwriting doesn't seem to be designed with the dance floor in mind, but rather as a kind of dream soundtrack to an extremely...

Is everyone okay? No one was hit with hate-rays from Carlton’s crystal tits? Lisa could certainly use some healing light, because this week, everyone turns on her. Carlton took Yolo to her favorite spirit shop, Objets d’Art & Spirits, which is either a chakra-recharging station or a package store. She needed to bring in her burnt-up candles to see if she was fully cleansed or to find out if Khaleesi was going to give her a dragon or something. I’m not saying Wicca isn’t real — we all stole Drawing Down the Moon from the public library in eighth grade and read it while listening to Peter Murphy — I’m just saying I take it a little less seriously from a millionaire Real Doll come to life. I love Carlton, but she’s full of shit, which was evident when her eyes darted around the store while she...

Joseph Gordon-Levitt has personally confirmed the rumors about his involvement in a bigscreen adaptation of The Sandman, tweeting that he is “incredibly honored” to be working with studio Warner Bros., writer David Goyer, and original Sandman creator Neil Gaiman on the project. Early reports implied that Gordon-Levitt would direct and star in the film, but he clarified his current role in a later tweet: “I’ve signed on as a producer on Sandman. The rest remains to be seen.”

League Two Accrington Stanley condemned Middlesbrough to their second defeat in four days as they beat last year’s quarter finalists 2-1 at The Riverside.
Lukas Jutkiewicz’s ninth minute strike was cancelled out by Marcus Carver just before half time.
Piero Mingoia sealed the cupset in the 79th minute. But Boro will be frustrated by the amount of chances they wasted as they were the only side who looked like winning for the first 80 minutes.
The Teessiders were playing their first home game in the League Cup since they beat Yeovil 5-1 back in 2008. A run that has seen them clock up in excess of 3,500 midweek miles.
Their opponents Stanley were looking to avoid going out in the 1st round for the second year running.
It was the first time these two teams had met in any fixture and it was Stanley who came out on top in a very one sided game.

Representatives of Peter Murphy, the lead singer of goth trailblazers Bauhaus, have spoken out on the musician's Facebook page about his hit-and-run arrest in Glendale on Saturday night. Murphy, 55, was driving a Subaru Forester when he reportedly rear-ended a Mercedes shortly before midnight, then fled the scene on the Ventura Freeway. A pickup truck driver on the freeway then noticed the singer's erratic driving and followed him off the freeway and into Los Angeles, where he boxed in Murphy's car with his own vehicle and called for police. Bauhaus frontman Peter Murphy was arrested this weekend on suspicion of DUI, hit-and-run, and meth possession. The Glendale, California police pinched Murphy after he allegedly clipped a vehicle in his Subaru Forester Saturday night. Another driver saw the incident and phoned it in, tailing Murphy until the cops showed up. Police say Murphy was “very confused” when they pulled him over and, according to the L.A. Times, “had difficulty recalling the day and time.” While Murphy said he hadn’t been drinking, he admitted to taking prescription pills for depression and said he was jet-lagged from a recent flight ...

We're back again with the third chapter in our ongoing feature on vintage Italian cinema thrillers, and since we've previously covered titles from Lucio Fulci (Don't Torture a Duckling) and Mario Bava (A Bay of Blood), it's time we examined a film from the final member of the genre's “Big Three,” Dario Argento. While Argento's most beloved work is unquestionably the stunning 1977 horror classic Suspiria, which was set in a dreamlike supernatural world, he was previously most famous for his pioneering approach to the giallo genre, beginning with the stylish The Bird with the Crystal Plumage – the huge success of which earned him the nickname “The Italian Hitchcock,” a handle he didn't particularly care for at the time. After that film, audiences craved more thrillers with Dario's eccentric touch, leading to what is loosely described as his “Animal Trilogy,” in that all of the titles include the name of an...

The 40 Sexiest Punk Rockers of All Time Smashing the state never looked so good. by Nerve Punk rock, for all its other saving graces, isn't exactly the sexiest of musical genres. It's loud, unsubtle, and occasionally violent, and it isn't overtly concerned with sexuality. That said, you'd be hard-pressed to find someone who didn't at one point carry a torch for their neighborhood punk rocker, and it's in that spirit that we're counting down the sexiest punk rockers of all time. 40. I don't know if you guys would've ever heard of it, but there's this pretty cool show on HBO called True Blood—it's got vampires and Anna Paquin and a lot of sex and some pretty cool music. Probably not anything you'd be interested in. Anyways, the show's music supervisor just happens to be Kcrw DJ Gary Calamar and he recently got the opportunity of a lifetime: to co-write a new song for an upcoming episode performed by none other than Iggy Pop and Best Coast's Bethany Cosentino. I know, you've probably never heard of either of them either. Just go with me on this.

“Velocity Bird,” the first song on Peter Murphy’s new solo album, Ninth, kicks off promisingly, with a fat beat and a raw, distorted riff. Then Murphy opens his mouth. Doing his best impression of Iggy Pop’s worst self-caricature, the former Bauhaus frontman pushes his trademark croon so far above his range, it sounds like his tonsils might pop. Fortunately, the song is over quickly. Unfortunately, it’s followed by another. Murphy has had mixed luck as a solo artist since Bauhaus first dissolved in 1983. But he managed to pull it together beautifully for the pioneering goth group ...

"Strange Powers" chronicles the quirks and songwriting habits of one of great songwriters of this generation, the elusive Stephin Merritt. Over a decade in the making, the documentary from directors Kerthy Fix and Gail O'Hara is a fascinating look at a very private man, known for his aversion to the press and fame. Merritt spends his days writing songs in gay bars that are at once catchy and somber. Many of them are so oddly familiar you can't believe they're original, but that's Merritt tapping into a kind of musical Cosmogonic Cycle, harnessing some simple melody shared in our subconscious.
For all his gifts, Merritt does not suffer fools. He's honed a reputation for a sharp tongue and a blatant disdain for answering stupid questions from neophyte interviewers, which is painful to behold. Author Neil Gaiman says of him that, "He made Lou Reed look like Little Orphan Annie." You...
