Welcome to the latest installment in a brand-new series here on Nerdly, Terrible Terror, in which we highlight some of, what we think, are the Worst horror movies to have ever burnt my retina with their atrociousness. Up this time is direct to DVD fear-flick House of Bones – which stars some familiar faces from television.
Stars: Charisma Carpenter, Marcus Lyle Brown, Ricky Wayne, Kyle Clements, Collin Galyean, Corin Nemec | Written by Anthony C. Ferrante, Jay Frasco | Directed by Jeffery Lando
Yet another entry into the long line of films that take their cues from reality television, House of Bones follows the investigators of “Sinister Sites” a cheesy ghost-hunting show that is losing viewers by the day thanks to its clueless host and a lack of ghosts in the show. Stars: Wesley Snipes, Seth Rollins, Anne Heche, Dave Annable, Kyle Clements, Morgan Roberts, Eyas Younis, Mo Gallini, Mike Seal | Written by Matt Savelloni | Directed by John Stockwell
Another month, another Wesley Snipes film. He sure is on the comeback trail now right? Ok, maybe not, especially given that this, like Final Recall, has headed direct to DVD. To be fair though, the “another month, another…” could also apply to WWE studios, who seem to have gone back to churning out direct to market films much like when they first stepped into the world of film production. Following the usual standard of having one of the many WWE Superstars take a break from the wrestling ring and appear on-screen, Armed Response features the “Kingslayer” himself, Seth Rollins, in a supporting role – yes, a supporting role. Unlike ‘Stone Cold’ Steve Austin, Dolph Ziggler, John Cena, Randy Orton, The Miz, and hell, even...

‘Ender’s Game’ movie to go the way of ‘John Carter,’ ‘The Golden Compass’? (Photo: Ben Kingsley and Asa Butterfield in ‘Ender’s Game’) Directed by Gavin Hood and starring Asa Butterfield and Harrison Ford, Ender’s Game is going the way of Andrew Stanton’s John Carter and Chris Weitz’s The Golden Compass at the domestic box office. After opening with a disappointing $27.01 million last weekend (including Thursday evening shows), the $110 million-budgeted was down a whopping 62% this past weekend, November 8-10, 2013, collecting a paltry $10.25 million from 3,407 theaters (no reduction in number of venues) according to box office actuals found at Box Office Mojo. One can blame Alan Taylor’s Thor: The Dark World, but the action fantasy starring Chris Hemsworth, Natalie Portman, and Tom Hiddleston wasn’t the sole culprit. After all, Ender’s Game was already trailing both Last Vegas and Bad Grandpa last Thursday. After two weekends,...

‘Ender’s Game’ movie box office: Adaptation of sci-fi novel by controversial anti-gay author Orson Scott Card tops (modest) domestic box office chart — but will that be enough to spawn a film franchise? (Photo: Asa Butterfield in ‘Ender’s Game’) Written and directed by Gavin Hood (X-Men Origins: Wolverine, Best Foreign Language Film Oscar winner Tsotsi), and featuring Asa Butterfield (the star in Martin Scorsese’s Hugo), Best Actor Oscar nominee Harrison Ford (Witness), Best Actor Oscar winner Ben Kingsley (Gandhi), two-time Oscar nominee Viola Davis (Doubt, The Help), and Best Supporting Actress Oscar nominees Abigail Breslin (Little Miss Sunshine) and Hailee Steinfeld (True Grit), the futuristic adventure drama Ender’s Game will easily top the North American box office chart this weekend, November 1-3, 2013. The Summit Entertainment / Lionsgate Pictures release is based on the 1985 novel (itself based on a 1977 short story/novella) by Orson Scott Card, an outspoken author...

‘Ender’s Game’ movie review: Sci-fier displays ‘steel-grey self-seriousness,’ but fails to explore ‘disturbing brutality’ at its core (photo: Asa Butterfield and Abigail Breslin in ‘Ender’s Game’) Orson Scott Card’s sci-fi novel Ender’s Game was published in 1985, and in the 28 years that elapsed before the book became a film, the idea of children trained to fight by orders of an unfeeling government has been repeatedly co-opted, most notably by a certain tale of a beautiful young archer named Katniss. Indeed, comparisons between Ender’s Game and The Hunger Games are inevitable, but the key similarity between the two is that neither film really explores or, in the case of The Hunger Games, even acknowledges the disturbing brutality that lies at the core of their intricately-constructed worlds. To its credit, Ender’s Game, under the clean, straightforward direction of Gavin Hood (one of the X-Men movies, it’s...

“This jumpy horror yarn (headlined by Corin Nemec and Charisma Carpenter) takes you on the journey with a group of reality television ghost hunters as they get trapped in a haunted plantation home. Their initial attempt for creating an entertaining reality show soon becomes a lot darker than anticipated. Through their attempt to uncover the many secrets in this haunted house, they become convinced that they are not only in the presence of the dead but surrounded by evil, supernatural activity. As fleeting spirits are spotted, fear becomes apparent. Crew members start going missing, objects around are disappearing and the house itself feels alive. It seems the crew’s only hope of survival is to unlock the mysteries of the plantation’s dark past…...

Being dead, or even undead, has lots of little annoyances such as the smell of decay. Yep, there's no getting around it - no amount of pine tree air fresheners in the world can successfully mask the musk of rotting flesh. On the positive side, though, you'll have a never-ending boner that's guaranteed to satisfy all the necrophilic ladies out there! Huzzah!

I've been extremely skeptical of Kevin Munroe's Dylan Dog: Dead Of Night, his live-action adaptation of the popular Italian comic starring Brandon Routh, Sam Huntington, Anita Briem, Taye Diggs, Kyle Russell Clements, Peter Stormare, and Kurt Angle. I thought most of the art, stills and even the trailer looked 1990's hammy - and not even in a good way - but I'll roll over a bit after seeing the first official clip. Inside we posted a scene where Routh, as the title character, takes his zombie friend (played by Huntington) to a grocery store for some supplied. Here, Huntington's character begins to learn that he's now one of the undead. It's pretty amusing stuff.

Here’s two brand new Us one-sheet posters for Tmnt director Kevin Munroe’s adaptation of the Italian comic series Dylan Dog which stars former Superman Brandon Routh as the eponymous Dylan Dog…
…a detective who is fascinated by fear, and has made it his profession. If you all haven’t seen Cemetery Man, do so. Anchor Bay put out a decent DVD release a few years back, because that film was based on a comic book called Dylan Dog, which is now once again a film. The film, directed by Kevin Munroe, stars Brandon Routh, Sam Huntington, Anita Briem, Taye Diggs, Kyle Russell Clements, Peter Stormare, and Olympic grappler Kurt Angle, and Dread Central has the Italian one-sheet since the opens there in a few months.
