Stan drifts away into a hellish dreamscape and is forced to make a difficult decision in a visually appealing, yet uneven, episode.
This Stan Against Evil review contains spoilers.
Stan Against Evil Season 3 Episode 7
“Invite me in or live in this hell forever…”
Stan Against Evil has turned out a rather impressive season that’s largest downfall is that it can become repetitive due to its tendency to stick to a firm formula. A standard episode of the series usually has a deeper message to hang its hat on in order to elevate the familiar structure, but “Intensive Scare Unit” runs into problems when its deeper message is well-trodden territory within the series.
The episode tells a story about sacrifice and illusory worlds, which is not an inherently flawed premise, but it’s just nothing new for the show. Accordingly, the larger framework of this episode may feel regressive at times,...

Starz has acquired a slew of comedy series, specials and films that launched on Seeso, the NBCUniversal-owned Svod service that shuttered last year.
Among the series in the deal are Take My Wife, Night Train with Wyatt Cenac and The Ucb Show. It also includes stand-up specials from the Sklar Brothers, Brian Posehn and Lachlan Patterson, along with The Pistol Shrimps, the documentary about a group of showbiz folks including Aubrey Plaza who play in a women’s recreational basketball league in L.A.
“We are excited to address the uncertain fate of several Seeso series, including the beloved Take My Wife series, by providing a new home for these programs and their fans at Starz,” said C. Brett Marottoli, Head of Program Acquisitions for Starz. “These comedies align strategically with many Starz Original series and will appeal to our audiences as we continue featuring more diverse casts and storylines across the Starz platforms.

Are these new pilots from Amazon trash? Of course they are! Here’s a guide.Just Robb Stark over here, wearin’ shades in outer space
Crowds may not be able to fund things, but they can give opinions. Or, at the very least, that’s been the idea behind Amazon’s occasional Pilot Season, generating enthusiasm for their programming by giving ordinary folk like yourself the opportunity to watch pilots and say, gee, this blows and vote them a big n’ meaningful thumbs down. Last year, they took everything, so it might just be a load of promotional nonsense. But it might not.
So, what’s hip in this line of potential programing? Once canceled TV-hands like Steve Dildarian and Amy Sherman-Palladino return with their latest attempts to enthuse audience with binge-worthy hours of spectacle and movie men like James Ponsoldt and Kevin Macdonald try to get into this golden age of TV they’ve been hearing...

Amazon released five new pilots on Friday, and it’s up to viewers to determine which ones get picked up. “The Legend of Master Legend,” “Budding Prospects,” “The New V.I.P.’s,” “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel” and “Oasis” make up the 2017 Amazon pilot season. Some are good, some are bad, but the power lies with all of us to determine which are worthy of a full season order. Read our reviews below to get a little insight into each offering, and watch the episodes for yourself right here.
“The Legend of Master Legend”
John Hawkes can’t catch a break. When he nabbed the lead in Charlie Kaufman’s FX pilot — Charlie Kaufman — it didn’t get picked up. He landed an Oscar nomination for “The Sessions,” but his follow-ups have meant diddly-squat comparatively. Sure, he stole a few scenes in “Lincoln” and got to take part in Amy Schumer’s amazing sketch,...

Riding an impressive hot streak of originals, Comedy Central is looking to continue that momentum with a slew of summer premieres and returns including the long-awaited -- by some people, at least -- return of "Review." Starring Andy Daly as life reviewer Forrest MacNeil, "Review" was my No.2 show of 2014 and it came in at No.4 on Sepinwall's Top 10. The first season, which had already been held for a while, premiered last March and was done by the start of May. Season 2 premieres on Thursday, July 30 at 10 p.m. and Comedy Central's season description teases life experiences including "bare-knuckle brawling, joining the mile high club, and even leading a cult." Excellent. What of the other premieres? *** Created by Natasha Leggero and Riki Lindhome, "Another Period" is a Gilded Age satire featuring Christina Hendricks, Michael Ian Black, David Koechner, Jason Ritter and more and it'll premiere on Tuesday, June 23 at 10:30 p.

Comedy Central is taking multiplatform incubation quite seriously.
The cable channel’s in-house Cc:Studios has renewed two returning series and greenlit five new ones in development, the company said on Thursday.
Additionally, the online division released “Roustabout” on Wednesday, a comedic travelogue that follows Kurt Braunohler as he jet skis from Chicago to New Orleans to raise money for charity.

The renewed series are “Six Guys One Car” (pictured above), from YouTube stars Dormtainment, and “New Timers,” following two low-key friends that remain unchanged and unphased by a post-apocalyptic Brooklyn.

If there’s anything that the world of comedy doesn’t need, it’s another self-deprecating, schlubby white guy who drops the word ‘awkward' like it’s going out of style. When Matt Braunger takes center stage and announces himself as an awkward rod (attracting the quality as if it were lightning), it appears to spell doom for the rest of the hour to come, but he refreshingly doesn’t rely on this tack excessively, and actually improves significantly during a number of bits. Whenever Braunger reverts to what appears to be a modern comedy factory setting, he fails to make much of an impression, but when he lets himself be weird, he’s actually pretty funny.
The high point of Shovel Fighter is the story that gives the program its title. It will not be spoiled here, but it is brief, bizarre, and almost totally unrelated to the rest of the program surrounding it.

Exclusive: Comedy Central has greenlighted Mash Up, a new, half-hour stand-up series hosted by actor-comedian T.J. Miller and directed by Jordan Vogt-Roberts. The show, which has received an 8-episode order, features performance by both established comics as well as up-and-comers as they act out their own material in hilarious, stylized recreations and sketches. Mash Up started off as a Comedy Central stand-up special hosted by Miller, which aired on March 11 at midnight and featured appearances by comedians Matt Braunger, Hannibal Buress, Kyle Kinane and Kumail Nanjiani. But the project’s origins can be traced back to 2004 in Chicago with Braunger, Kinane, Miller, Nanjiani and other comedians pitching Vogt-Roberts ideas for online videos. Vogt-Roberts proposed adding visualized elements to make the clips more dynamic. After the videos netted millions of online views and screened at festivals, the idea eventually found its way to Comedy Central, which ordered a special and now a series,...

New York, December 7, 2011 — Robots taking over the world, a critic reviewing difficult life experiences, social networking, a closed-captioner gone wild, a music group trying to get discovered online and reviving a public affairs show from the 80′s. These are just a few of the creative concepts coming out of Comedy Central’s 2011-2012 development slate announced today by Kent Alterman, Head of Original Programming and Production. “There’s nothing more compelling than describing comedy in short paragraphs and we believe the following descriptions convey comedy development at its finest,” said Alterman. “Of course this may all be moot if television as we know it implodes, so just in case, we are producing these low-tech so they will be appropriate for the Web.” Projects in development range from sketch/variety to animated to scripted narrative and feature a combination of top comedic and up-and-coming talent including the Gregory Brothers, “The Daily Show’s” Wyatt Cenac,...

One of the joys of working on the internet is, of course, your complete and utter helplessness when your equipment decides that it wants to be a bastard. Oh, sure, your computer will tell you that you've got full wireless signal and the modem will have all the little lights on saying that the internet is connected and wireless is working but does that mean you can actually access any websites? No. No it does not. And as satisfying as it would be to throw all those little gadgets that smirk at you with their little Led indicator lights across the room, you know you can't because that will just make the whole situation worse, somehow. And when you finally figure out the right combination of cords and switching it off for 30 seconds and turning it back on to make everything work, it makes even less sense which just aggravates you more.

Television looks pretty sparse tonight but there's a few gems in there. The "So You Think You Can Dance" crowd gets to worship at the feet of Cat Deeley again, and "Ancient Aliens" returns for people who appreciate crazy in its most well reasoned and researched forms. Seriously, everything they say makes perfect sense if you accept the basic premise of the show which is that aliens are responsible for all the parts of human history we can't really explain. Obviously. Oh! And "Project Runway" returns with it's duel guiding stars of Heidi Klum and Tim Gunn, who I really wish I could just hire for hilarious and wine soaked dinner parties. I'd start throwing dinner parties if that were an option. Here's your Thursday night TV:
8:00pm: "So You Think You Can Dance" on Fox

The big television news tonight is that President Obama is set to make an address outlining the plan to withdraw troops from Afghanistan. Two of the networks have simply elected not to schedule new programming during that block whereas two others, well, see below. Now, because you all know that I adore political discussions So Much I will move right the hell on. Also tonight is another episode of "Jon Benjamin Has a Van" which I am still... I'm still thinking about. I want to like it, which is part of the problem, but it just seems like that sort of aggressive awkwardness that borders on meanness and doesn't make me laugh so much as it makes me squirm. Anyone have thoughts on the show? Worth a trial run or just forget about it and keep counting the days until "Archer" comes back? Anyway, here's the rest of you Wednesday...

Today is Thursday which means that I got woken up by the delightful noise of my complex's dumpster being emptied (how is it that it's always so far away when you're carrying trash but sounds So Close when they dump it?) and as far as television goes it means next to nothing anymore. However, I know you "So You Think You Can Dance" fans are legion and there's another audition episode on tonight so that's, you know, auditiony. Also the second game of the NBA Finals but I'm not sure how popular the Dallas Mavericks are and I know that most people following the Heat are doing so more out of hatred of LeBron James or the idea that the team was able to manipulate the free agent system to basically buy themselves a Finals appearance than actual appreciation. I am not one of those people. Here's your Thursday night...

After making the rounds on the film festival circuit, the short comedy "Successful Alcoholics," starring T.J. Miller ("Cloverfield," "Yogi Bear") and Lizzy Caplan ("Party Down," "True Blood") is available to watch in full on Funny or Die.
The short, which was directed by Jordan Vogt-Roberts ("Funny Or Die Presents") and written by Miller, follows a couple whose "casual drinking" extends to all hours of the day. But unlike most problem drinkers, their professional and personal lives appear to not be harmed by boozing 24/7. On the contrary, drinking often makes them more successful.
Be on the lookout for cameos from ringers such as Whitney Cummings, Nick Kroll, Tony Hale, Matt Braunger, and Nick Thune in this very funny -- and surprisingly touching -- 25-minute short.

As most of you who read this site regularly know, I'm not a huge fan of reality TV. Even the few reality shows that I like (usually things like "Top Chef" where there's a clear goal and a certain level of ability is required among the participants) I get bored with really quickly. I'm pretty certain that all the reality TV shows on television right now could disappear and I probably wouldn't notice except that Pajiba After Dark would get way shorter certain nights. However, reality TV seems to love me. Since I moved to Miami more and more reality series are being filmed here, which led to me actually encountering part of the cast of "Jersey Shore" while out one night which is, thus far, the closest I have come to the proverbial sausage being made. Tomorrow morning or mostly likely later this evening, I will be getting closer...

Exclusive: Comedy Central is finalizing a deal for a pilot order to Black Jack. The single-camera comedy, directed and exec produced by Pineapple Express helmer David Gordon Green, hails from Rough House, Green's production company with Danny McBride, Jody Hill and Matt Reilly. Black Jack, written by Michael Starrbury, centers on Black Jack who, after 20 years as the most kick-ass special ops agent the Us government has had on its payroll, finally goes too far and is de-commissioned. He's sent home to begin the most treacherous mission he's ever faced -- normal life. The order is expected to be cast-contingent, with the pilot going to production if the network finds the right actor for the lead. Lately I've been seeing commercials for some of the new shows that are coming out this summer/next fall (never too early to start the ad campaign, right? Wrong.) and on one hand I'm excited that I'll have something new to write about for a brief shining moment before I reach the point that I don't have anything to say about it except "Hey, look, it's that shit again, some more." Also I'm having fun observing certain entertainment trends pass around from movies to television shows before everyone decides they're a bad idea and abandons them. Right now, we're in what I like to call the "Alien cycle" with the full on alien entries of "V" and the upcoming "Falling Lights" on TV as well as the possibly aliens but no one's really sure "The Event" which is still on for reasons I can't fathom.
