Exclusive: Sugar23 has signed Charlie Tahan, the actor, writer, and director best known for his breakout starring role on Netflix’s Ozark, for management.
For a refresher, the Emmy-winning Ozark follows the seemingly ordinary financial planner, Marty Byrde (Jason Bateman), who becomes entangled in a dangerous world of money laundering and drug cartels. When a scheme goes awry, he’s forced to relocate his family from Chicago to the remote Ozarks in Missouri to launder money for a cartel, working to outmaneuver local criminals, corrupt officials, and his own fractured family dynamics.
Tahan’s character is Wyatt Langmore — cousin of Julia Garner’s Ruth — a member of a local crime family who proves an intelligent and introspective fan favorite, in spite of his troubled upbringing. His work as part of the ensemble earned him three SAG Award nominations between 2019 and 2023.

Exclusive: Paradigm and a pair of literary agents, Alysia Thomas and Kelsey Roberts, have parted ways, sources tell Deadline.
Paradigm declined comment.
Thomas has already made her exit, and we’re told this was entirely amicable. What prompted Roberts’ exit is unclear, but she’s still finishing up her time at the agency.
A veteran studio executive and producer previously based in London, Thomas moved to Los Angeles to join Paradigm as Motion Picture Lit Agent in the fall of 2022. Prior to her time there, she served as VP of Development at Working Title, before that working as Vice President of Creative Affairs at Legendary Pictures in Los Angeles. She began her career at Warner Bros, working her way up from executive assistant to creative executive, and eventually, to producer.
Joining Paradigm as Lit Agent in 2021, Roberts was formerly a manager at Industry Entertainment, having worked prior to that at Lawrence Bender Productions.

Exclusive: Following his stunning ouster from Verve, the agency he co-founded in 2010, where he’d most recently served as CEO, veteran agent Bill Weinstein looks to have found his next destination, as multiple sources tell Deadline that he’s in talks to join Paradigm.
Paradigm declined comment, and Weinstein couldn’t be reached, but we’ll update this story with his statement if and when it comes in.
As we were first to report, it had previously been speculated that Weinstein would be setting up his own shop named Novo, and bring the Verve trio of Devon Schiff, Matthew Doyle and Jake Dillman with him following their own departures from the agency. Whether any or all of them will be joining him at Paradigm isn’t yet clear.

Exclusive: Thomas Lennon (Reno 911!), Chelsea Frei (The Moodys), and Larry Joe Campbell (The Orville) have been set for guest star roles in the forthcoming second season of Fox’s popular workplace comedy Animal Control, starring Joel McHale.
Others set to appear in S2 guest roles, as previously announced, include Ken Jeong, Sarah Chalke, and Krystal Smith.
Premiering last February, the show created by Bob Fisher, Rob Greenberg and Dan Sterling follows a group of local Animal Control workers whose lives are complicated by the fact that animals are simple, but humans are not. McHale plays Frank, an opinionated, eccentric Animal Control officer who may not have gone to college but is still the most well-read person in the room. A former cop, Frank tried to expose corruption in his department, but his efforts got him fired, which may explain why he’s so cynical and curmudgeonly. He has an almost superhuman ability to understand animals.

The first installment of Ryan Murphy’s American Sports Story anthology series for FX will star Josh Andrés Rivera as Aaron Hernandez and Patrick Schwarzenegger as fellow former NFL star Tim Tebow. “Beneath the Grass,” a drama about the criminal justice system and marijuana incarceration rates, will hit the market at the Cannes Film Festival next week.
Mía Maestro, Quincy Isaiah and Jeff Kober will lead the film, which begins production next month in New Jersey. Paradigm is representing worldwide sales for the film.
“Beneath the Grass” is set in 2008, capturing both the economic recession and the “Yes We Can” summer, and follows a single Latina mother whose illegal marijuana business is jeopardized when her young son befriends the new neighbors, a young white boy and his police officer grandfather.
According to production research, in 2008, Latino people were four times more likely to be arrested for marijuana possession than white people, while Black people were seven times more likely. Despite marijuana legalization in several states in the years since, the research explains, arrest rates have risen with racial disparities still prevalent.

Exclusive: In what might be the last vigorous spec script auction before a possible WGA strike next week, Amazon Studios has paid near seven figures for Stakehorse, a crime thriller spec written by Justin Piasecki. Numerous bidders chased this one but it came down to Amazon with Hidden Pictures, and Netflix with Chernin Entertainment, sources said. Deal closed last night. Hidden Pictures’ Todd Lieberman and Alex Young will produce.
The protagonist is a veterinarian who makes his living keeping horses healthy, but makes side money doing medical work for underworld figures, patching them up in a pinch. He gets over his head and suddenly his own life is in danger. The tone is reminiscent of The Town.
Justin Piasecki
The auction was brokered by Paradigm. It is not coincidence that an action thriller which already has filmmakers and talent circling would be at a premium in this moment. It might...

Dekay will play Bob Strafford, said to be “a Montana rancher who’s anticipating an imminent wedding between his daughter and one of the Duttons.”
Rico will play Issaxche, a Crow woman hoping to reunite with her family.

The psychological thriller, set to begin shooting in January, stars Sweeney as Cecilia, a devout Christian who is offered a role at an illustrious Italian convent. After his thrilling halftime performance at the 2022 Super Bowl, Snoop Dogg is entering the sports world — on the big screen. The acclaimed rapper is set to star in Metro Goldwyn Mayer’s upcoming sports comedy film “The Underdoggs,” and will produce the movie alongside “Black-ish” creator Kenya Barris.
