Ladies and gentlemen, give it up for the comedic stylings ... of Rob Gronkowski! The New England Patriots tight end -- who's dabbled in comedy before -- is launching his own comedy special called, "Unsportsmanlike Comedy with Rob Gronkowski" ... which debuts Friday on Showtime. Gronk will do some stand-up -- and host a handful of other comedians including John Caparulo and ex-snl cast member Finesse Mitchell. Looks like there will also be some chicks dressed as...

[[tmz:video id="0_o5lrzmyv"]] John Caparulo did something a lot of comedians are doing -- busted on President Trump -- but this time a woman in the front row quickly and violently retaliated on Trump's behalf. John -- who was a regular on Chelsea Handler's show -- was performing stand-up at The Comedy & Magic Club in Hermosa Beach, CA. He made a phallic joke about the Washington Monument, and when he dragged the prez into it ... 2 women in the crowd went off.

It looks like the cross-dressing guys of Work It are out of work again. ABC has cancelled the new sitcom, pulling it from the schedule after just two episodes.
Work It revolves around a pair of unemployed guys -- Lee Standish (Ben Koldyke) and Angel Ortiz (Amaury Nolasco) -- who get jobs at a pharmaceuticals company when they apply dressed as women. The cast also includes Beth Lacke, John Caparulo, Rebecca Mader, Rochelle Aytes, Kate Reinders, Kirstin Eggers, and Hannah Sullivan.
The first episode of Work It, attracted a 2.0 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 6.16 million total viewers. When compared to the debut of already-canned Man Up!, ABC was down by 17% in the ratings.
This week's installment dropped like a rock, down 20% to a 1.6 in the demo with only 5.1 million.

Last week, ABC unveiled their first new sitcom of 2012, Work It. The TV series was pummeled by negative reviews from critics and viewers alike but were the ratings that bad? Will it be quickly cancelled or stick around long enough to be renewed for a second season?
Work It revolves around a pair of unemployed guys -- Lee Standish (Ben Koldyke) and Angel Ortiz (Amaury Nolasco) -- who believe that the economic downturn has affected men more than women. Lee gets a job at a pharmaceuticals company after applying dressed as a woman and Angel follows. The two must maintain their charade to keep their jobs and end up learning a little something about what it means to be female.
The cast also includes Beth Lacke, John Caparulo, Rebecca Mader, Rochelle Aytes, Kate Reinders, Kirstin Eggers, and Hannah Sullivan.

Even before it premiered, Work It was getting plenty of negative reviews. Some believe there's no such thing as bad publicity though and that attention may have drawn a few more people to watch Work It than normally might have.

This is likely the first-ever TV review on Zap2it to cite the federal Bureau of Labor Statistics. But we're in not-very-well-charted territory with ABC's joyless, charmless new show "Work It." And although we're only three days into 2012, we're pretty confident this show will end up near the top of lots of "worst" lists next December.
The show's premise is that the economy is so bad for men that two guys (Ben Koldyke, best known as Don on "How I Met Your Mother," and Amaury Nolasco from "Prison Break") who've been out of work for a year have to resort to dressing up as women to land new jobs. It's a "mancession," their crude buddy/expository device Brian (John Caparulo) declares. Women are snapping up all the jobs, and soon men will just be kept around as "sex slaves."

From “needing some work” to “a drag in every way” television critics throughout North America have had quite a field day in writing about ABC’s cross dressing comedy Work It. And for good reason, it’s not a very good show.
Yet rather than simply pile on to the chorus of criticism that the internet has been heaping upon executive producers Ted Cohen and Andrew Reich (Who we can only hope for the sake of their sanity are sitting on a beautiful beach thousands of miles from the nearest Wi-Fi connection at this very moment) we thought — in the spirit of the New Year and all — we’d do something somewhat uncharacteristic of us: Focus on the positives.

Chicago – I try to approach every new series as a blank slate. However, it would be naive to say that things like pedigree and incessant advertising don’t have the same impact on me as they do you. I’m a fan of J.J. Abrams and so I look forward to his work more than, say, the team behind “According to Jim.” And the ads for ABC’s “Work It” sent a shiver down my spine like a high school teacher talking about a term paper that you knew you’d have to do eventually and would probably hate writing. Did it live up to my low expectations? Actually, no. It’s much, Much worse.

Those of you who were around last year and follow me on Twitter (so... like maybe four of you) will recall that I started a Shark Week Theme Songs hashtag on Twitter since I felt like the sharks were not given appropriate musical backup. This year, it seems like they've gone ahead and picked Lady Gaga's "Teeth" as the unofficial Shark Week theme song which I do approve of. However that does not mean I've given up my mission which has more to do with wordplay anyway. Those of you who'd like to play along but don't have Twitter can still read mine without joining and those of you on Twitter are welcome to use the #sharkweekthemesongs tag for any of your own creations. Enjoy! Here's your Monday night TV:

The new USA series "Necessary Roughness" premieres tonight and all I can say is thank God because those promos have been running for like the last month and a half during the weekend "Law and Order: We Frown at Things Seriously" marathons and I'll be happy to see them go. First of all, I keep seeing that one guy and thinking "Hey! It's that guy from 'House' who had a nasty case of thrush!" because that's all I can think of when I see him. IMDb indicates that his name is Marc Blucas. Good for him. Also, hopefully I won't have to listen to star Callie Thorne spit "I'm not a hooker, I'm a therapist" like it's supposed to be funny anymore. Really, though, it just seems like someone played darts with popular drama plot lines and current buzzwords (Divorce! Football! Sexting! Therapy! ) and tried to turn it into a show.

TV is a bit confusing tonight, as there's at least one show having it's "Time Slot Premiere" that was on last night ("Jon Benjamin Has a Van") another show which I literally did not know existed until yesterday is premiering tonight ("Happily Divorced") and "Toddlers and Tiaras" is coming back. I think that last one is happening for reasons that have everything to do with the fact that the universe is a bleak and empty place devoid of a loving and just God. Also there's the Stanley Cup final game, but if you're not a big hockey fan the series has already given us the very best thing we could have hoped for in the form of this video of Rachel McAdams hamming it up for the Jumbotron during Game 4. Honestly, as much as "Toddlers and Tiaras" pushes me towards nihilism, the exuberance of Ms.McAdams's chair dance pushes me back in the other direction.

There are times when I have to sit back and look on the self-cannibalizing nature of television with a kind of sick admiration. My favorite example has always been "Trading Spouses" which went from a skit on "Chappelle's Show" mocking the "Trading Spaces" model by substituting people trading their actual marriages to an actual reality series where people... traded families. Last year there was a fictional series on Lifetime called "Huge" which was set in a weight-loss camp for teenagers. The kids on the show watched a TV series called "Love Handles" which was about overweight contestants battling to find love. "Huge" was cancelled after its first season. Tonight, we see the premiere of "Love Handles" on Lifetime which is a show where a couple go through "a dual transformation as overweight couples attempt to save their lives and relationships as they confront what lies at the core of their issues.

ABC has a slew of new shows coming, many of which need a lot of luck if they're going to last more than a handful of episodes. The schedule has been released, so let's take a lot at what's coming.
Oddly enough, as part of the new announcement, ABC has solidified the return of several more shows, including Happy Endings, despite the fact that two other networks have shows on their slate with cast members from the show. That should be interesting. Of course, it works for me, because I'm a fan.
In other news, Desperate Housewives will not die. Are you kidding me with this show still being on?
New Series - “Apartment 23,” “Charlie’s Angels,” “Good Christian Belles,” “Last Man Standing,” “Man Up,” “Missing,” “Once Upon a Time,” “Pan Am,” “Revenge,” “The River,” “Scandal,” “Suburgatory” and “Work It” Join the Lineup

Earlier we shared ABC's primetime lineup, and now we have some clips from the new comedy series for you. The new comedies include Apartment 23, Suburgatory, Last Man Standing, Man Up, and Work It. So far I think Apartment 23 looks the best. Check out the clips below and let us know what shows you are liking the most.
Apartment 23
After a naive Midwestern girl's big city dreams are dashed her first week in New York, she finds herself living with her worst nightmare in this hilarious, contemporary comedy about a female odd couple who are surrounded by an outrageous cast of characters. June (Dreama Walker) moves to Manhattan for a dream job and the perfect company apartment, only to have them disappear in a puff of reality, thanks to a CEO from the Bernie Madoff school of embezzlement. Deep in debt and out on the streets, June scrambles to land a job and place to live.

What are two guys to do during the current "mancession"? Dress up as women to score jobs, of course!
ABC announced its 2011-2012 schedule on Tuesday, May 17, and the workplace comedy (with a twist!) "Work It" made the cut for midseason.
"Work It" stars Ben Koldyke as Lee Standish and Amaury Nolasco as Angel Ortiz, two alpha males who land jobs in pharmaceutical sales by passing themselves off as women. While this concept may seem a little offensive, Lee and Angel quickly learn there are fundamental differences in the worlds of men and women and ABC calls the show a "smart, funny and relevant look at male and female relationships at work, at home and socially." The tagline? "Being a better man sometimes means having to be a better woman." Seriously. We'll try to reserve judgment until we see the finished product.

NBC and Fox have both unleashed their Fall 2011-2012 TV schedule, now ABC has released theirs. I’m excited to see Castle, Modern Family, and The Middle back in the mix. Most of the new shows they have line-up don’t really interest me, but there are a few that have caught my eye. PanAm is another 1960’s based TV show that will go against AMC’s Mad Men and NBC’s The Playboy Club. There’s a show called Revenge that sounds really interesting, but the new series I’m most excited about is is the fantasy series Once Upon A Time, a show where fairy tales collide with the modern day.
Here is ABC’s full schedule along with a description of all of their shows. Go through them below and let us know what TV series you’re most excited about seeing.

ABC hopes 13 is its lucky number. The network has picked up a baker’s dozen new shows to populate its fall and midseason schedule, which includes opening a new comedy block.
Mondays will stay the same with Dancing With the Stars and Castle. Tuesdays will open with a comedy hour that includes Tim Allen’s new sitcom, Last Man Standing, paired with another new comedy, Man Up. Wednesdays adds new comedy Suburgatory, plus soap thriller, Revenge, at 10 p.m., with Cougar Town shifting to midseason and Happy Endings getting the Modern Family lead-in. Charlie’s Angels will go into Thursdays at 8 p.

The beginning of the endings has come on, with many shows having their season finales tonight and many more coming in the next few weeks. Some will hang on into June, but not many, and then we will face summer which does have a couple interesting prospects (I'm intrigued by "Wilfred" and curious if not hopeful about "Franklin and Bash") but mostly a series of shows that weren't worth putting in direct competition with shows who have a solid audience. So prepare now, load up your Netflix lists or shop for DVDs, maybe find a hobby or two to take you out of the house a couple evenings out of the week, or just resolve to sit around and pout. Happy Cinco de Mayo! Today we celebrate the brilliance of Corona's marketing team in discerning that Americans are extremely fond of cultural holidays that we perceive to be centered around drinking themed alcohol (see: St.Patrick's Day) and that any excuse to eat nachos is a good one. It sends a clear and coherent message to other cultures that we will adopt your fun holidays with glee but god forbid you ever try to move here. I do not yet have a comically oversized margarita in my hand, but as I'm writing this it's not even 2:30pm, so it's only a matter of time. With a new documentary about the life of Bill Hicks opening in New York City this weekend, it seemed like a good time to dig deeper into the world of documentaries about stand-up comedians. And, pending an thorough examination, this is what we found: there aren't a lot of good ones. Obviously there are plenty of concert films of stand-ups, just not a ton of docs about stand-ups, and most of the ones that do exist aren't very good. "American," which is smartly edited and constructed, is a fine exception. Here are five more:

I basically never have anything good to say about Tuesdays. They're when you realize that all your big plans for the week ("I'm gonna wake up earlier than I need to! And run! And not hit the snooze button ten times! And pack a healthy lunch every day!") aren't going to work out because everything that seems so simple and sensible in the evening when you're making these grand plans evaporates when the alarm goes off and your snoozy, lazy, take-out loving ass has the choice of hauling itself out of bed or spending another ten minutes warm and cozy under the covers. And you spend another day swearing at yourself as you realize you only have fifteen minutes to make yourself presentable, again, and race through getting ready inevitably forgetting something vital. Like pants. Or maybe that's just me. Here's your Tuesday night television:

A while ago I'd toyed with the idea of coming up with a video format for Pajiba After Dark, but ultimately dismissed it as being too difficult and ineffective since the beauty of this is that you can scan down to find shows and times relatively easily and there wouldn't be a way to do that with a video. However, now that I'm stuck with the freaking Left Hand of Doom because of a broken pinkie finger, I'm toying with that idea again as typing is frustrating and slow to do. So, any suggestions would be welcome, or you could tell me to quit my bitching and learn to type one handed better. Here's your Tuesday night TV:

Because I am given to a somewhat introspective and thoughtful nature (which some individuals refer to as "thinking too much") I occasionally become fixated on things other people don't notice. Lately, it's been the fact that on both the pop-r&B/hip hop station and the "80's, 90's, and today!" station here in Miami, the most frequent commercials are for plastic surgery centers or attorney referral services. On the surface, these two would seem to be unrelated but if you look a little deeper... ok, they're still mostly unrelated, but I'm still trying to figure out what cross section of the population has the money to be shopping around for a nose job and boob lift, but still needs to have the number for lawyers specializing in what amounts to ambulance chasing on speed dial. On that completely unrelated note, here's your Tuesday night TV:

Today is my last day of classes and, accordingly, I seem to be sick. Not like, sniffly sneezy sick, but more achy, overly tired but having weird dreams sick which tends to be how I manifest having the flu. Though it's hard for me to say because I haven't had the flu since I was about nine and I can't really remember it since I ran a scary fever and slept for about 36 hours. If it were about a week later I'd be perfectly fine to spend most of my time in bed with a pile of books, only getting up to get more water and/or chicken soup. However, that is not the case. So, I'll be heading out shortly to stock up on some of that noxious five hour energy stuff, fruit juice and whatever amphetamine-like diet pills have somehow managed to escape being banned by the Fda...

The run up to "Black Friday" has started, which this year includes a lot of advertising of "Black Friday Prices Now!" stuff and I just... bleh. This is the part of American Christmas that makes me want to give all the money I'd put towards presents to Heifer International and Donors Choose and give my loved ones a card that says "For Christmas this year I bought someone a cow and gave a fourth grade class a set of textbooks. Happy freaking Holidays." I understand that people want to save money and there are some good deals available but if I'm standing outside a store in freezing cold weather at some ridiculous goddamn hour of the morning, I'd better be getting a TV for free when I walk in. But I say that as someone who hates cold and mornings. And crowds. And useless shiny crap. This really isn't my season.

This morning I was woken up nearly two hours before my alarm was supposed to go off in such a way that I knew I wouldn't be able to get back to sleep in time to make it worthwhile. It's a special kind of frustrating, realizing that you're up too early without enough sleep but that trying to get back to sleep will only be a pointless and frustrating endeavor that will probably result in you falling back asleep 20 minutes before your alarm goes off which will just make you cranky for the rest of the day. Instead, I got up which will assure that I'm just kind of slow and tired for the rest of the day. Yay for no-win scenarios! Here's your Wednesday night TV:

Halloween week just keeps rolling on tonight with a whole slew of new Halloween themed episodes for your viewing enjoyment. I actually don't have a lot of time for TV this week since forces have conspired to make me Extra Super Mondo Busy but I appreciate that it's all happening and most of it I'll be able to see on Hulu. It is actually the thought of Halloween that's dragging me through the worst parts; that Sunday night I'll get to dress up in something I'd never wear otherwise and go out to the giant street party that is Miami on Halloween and try and break my record for variety of containers to drink alcohol out of in one night. Last year was a highlight, since I ran into some sexy lumberjacks carrying around sweet tea vodka in syrup bottles. Anyway, here's your Wednesday night TV:

There are weeks that I can get through with relative ease and then there are weeks like this week where I'm already looking forward to the weekend, but at the same time eyeing that pile of stuff that Needs to get done before Friday. I hate that pile, that pile can go jump off a cliff for all I care but it's there and it has to be dealt with otherwise next week will be Worse and next week I need to be focusing on getting ready for Halloween so I have to get it done. And then I can get to Saturday and sleep for 16 hours like a cat and it will be absolutely glorious. The point of this is I don't have anything particularly insightful or entertaining to share with you tonight so here's your TV:
7:30pm: "Fox Sports Special: Nlcs Game #4" on Fox
8:00pm: "America's Next Top Model...

The biggest thing happening on TV today is the rescue of the Chilean miners who have been trapped underground since August 5th. It's been going on since late last night and will probably take hours more, since they seem to be getting out one miner per hour. As of the time I'm writing this, they've just gotten the 13th miner out so there's about 20 to go, plus the rescue workers they sent down to check on the remaining miners. The worst part of the whole thing so far, for me, is the American coverage. Last night one of the American reporters on the scene compared the situation to an American football game, and there have been multiple comparisons to the moon landing. Because nothing can be something awesome and inspiring on it's own, we have to find some sort of comparison because otherwise viewers won't understand the sheer magnitude of...

Over the past years, comedian John Caparulo has been extremely busy; when he is not selling out his own comedy tour he sits in as a guest panelist on E!'s Chelsey Lately (TV) show. With a distinct voice, an acute sense of comedic timing, and outrageously funny material, Caparulo is cementing his future as one of our generation's best comedians. His big break came when the Ohio native lent his talents and toured with Vince Vaughn's Wild West Comedy Show in 2006, which was documented by film makers and made Caparulo a household name. Recently, Caparulo teamed up with Edge Anti-Irritation Zone campaign that brings much needed comedic relief to life's annoying irritations. If you can believe it, you have voted Atlanta, Ga as the most irritated city in the United States! Edge Shave Gel has launched a contest asking people to vent about their constant daily irritations; like...

Narrative Review When you hear the name Vince Vaughn, you expect laughter. That seems to be the rule now. Sure, for a while he attempted drama with a "Psycho" remake, "Clay Pigeons" and "Return to Paradise," but the public spoke with their wallets. None of those films made much money, and Vaughn returned to comedy with huge hits such as "Wedding Crashers." So who better than Vaughn to lead us through 30 cities in 30 days with four stand-up comedians? "Vince Vaughn's Wild West Comedy Show: 30 Days and 30 Nights, Hollywood to the Heartland" is supposed to be a raucous ride of laughter, but it's thin on one important aspect: the jokes. Vaughn is joined by four stand-up comedians (Ahmed Ahmed, John Caparulo, Bret Ernst and Sebastian Maniscalco)...

- The Scorecard Review
NEW YORK -- Picturehouse and New Line International have nabbed all international rights to the comedy performance documentary Vince Vaughn's Wild West Comedy Show: 30 Days & 30 Nights -- Hollywood to the Heartland.
Ari Sandel's film, produced by Vaughn, follows the actor as he leads a team of unknown comics on a monthlong tour across the U.S. In addition to showcasing stage performances with such guests as Justin Long and Dwight Yoakam, the film takes a behind-the-scenes look at the lives of Vaughn and comedians Bret Ernst, Ahmed Ahmed, Sebastian Maniscalco and John Caparulo.
The pickup comes seven months after the Weinstein Co. purchased the feature for $2.5 million-$3.5 million at the Toronto International Film Festival. After tentatively slating the film for a spring release, the company put the project back up for sale with UTA a month ago. A source close to the deal said the new purchase was slightly below $2.5 million, with a larger allocation of the money put toward marketing.

TORONTO -- Vince Vaughn's name might be the one on the marquee every night, but his "Wild West Comedy Show: 30 Days & 30 Nights -- Hollywood to the Heartland" is all about the unknowns -- four performers plucked from the Comedy Store (former home to Richard Pryor) for a monthlong trek through the South and Midwest.
(Wild west has little significance, other than as Vaughn's nod to his impresario model, Buffalo Bill.) The enjoyable result doesn't have a lot of theatrical potential, but could do well on cable and video.
Vaughn's roster is a melting pot of familiar types, some of whom have history with the actor -- the macho everyguy, the self-proclaimed Guido, the Arab and the hick from Ohio. None of them will be hailed anytime soon as great innovators of the comedic arts, but all four are likable personalities with enough good material to carry a set. Each has his highpoints onstage here, with John Caparulo in particular looking like a candidate to anchor a Blue Collar Tour Version 2.0.
In the opening scenes, it looks as if Vaughn and company have figured out a way to make this something more than just another group tour. He wrangles surprise guests for the first few gigs and has entertaining things for them to do: Jon Favreau drops by (maybe "surprise" isn't the right word ) in a clever bit at the expense of more regular guest (and Vaughn's "Dodgeball: A True Underdog Story" co-star) Justin Long; Dwight Yoakam appears in Bakersfield to complain that the guitar Buck Owens gave him wasn't nearly as cool as the one he gave Vaughn.
This format peters out, though, the further the tour bus gets from Los Angeles. Soon, we're watching a more familiar backstage-tour format, pairing performance material with offstage interviews about where the comics come from and how they cope with the struggle to break out of the comedy-club scene.
The balance between on- and offstage material is fine, if slightly heavy on the latter, but around an hour in you begin to wonder how the filmmakers are going to keep it interesting for almost two hours. They don't quite manage it: Feeling the need to include at least montage elements for every stop on the 30-city tour, they wind up with some fat that could be trimmed to make this a real entertainer. A detour through the hurricane-ravaged South (the 2005 tour coincided with Hurricane Katrina) provides a chance for the performers to be thoughtful about something other than their own performance anxiety, but might be too much of a mood shift under the circumstances.
Shot on sometimes lousy-looking video, it seems unreasonable to ask audiences to pay to see this picture on a big screen. But Wild West, particularly with a bit of editing, would be a standout on cable, where shoddy production values would be eclipsed by some very funny material and the emcee presence of a sometimes charismatic (and sometimes obviously road-weary) star.
