The 2024 Oscars returned to the Dolby Theatre on Sunday for Hollywood’s biggest night of the year. The awards ceremony began with an emotional win for Da’Vine Joy Randolph and ended with Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer taking home the top prize, as well as six other awards. But there was plenty going on off-camera as well. From Emma Stone and Jennifer Lawrence hugging backstage to how John Cena went from practically naked to donning a toga, here are some of the things the cameras missed during the 96th annual Academy Awards.
Snack Boxes for All
As per usual, Jimmy Kimmel brought his A-game to his Oscar-hosting gig — and some snacks. This year, the late night host provided snack boxes that included Shappy Pretzels and mustard, Mike & Ike’s, water and a note from the host that, “to keep the karma flowing,” they would be providing a donation to St. Joseph Center.

While Jimmy Kimmel hosted the 2024 Oscars, his fourth time as the emcee, the late-night host made sure to continue a ceremony tradition: Provide snacks.
Ahead of the ceremony, A-list stars and others in attendance were greeted with snack boxes placed under each seat inside the Dolby Theatre. Inside the boxes were Shappy Pretzel and mustard, Mike & Ike’s candy, Open Water and a note from the host that read, “To keep the karma flowing, we made donations on your behalf to St. Joseph Center.”
As he did with the 2023 Oscars, Kimmel enlisted help once again from actor Adam Shapiro’s Shappy Pretzel Co. (The host is known to be a longtime fan of the soft pretzels.)

Morale following the breakdown of the negotiations between the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers and SAG-AFTRA on Wednesday evening seemed depleted as actors and supporters walked back and forth in front of Hollywood studios, carrying “SAG-AFTRA on Strike!” signs that have been omnipresent at company entrances over the past three months.
Outside of Netflix in Hollywood, there was a lively, crowded atmosphere with DJ Evan Shafran spinning tunes, while multiple members of the negotiating committee were present. Duncan-Crabtree-Ireland gave a short speech, while “one day longer/one day stronger” chants rang through the air.
Presence at studios like Amazon, Sony, Disney (which hosted a pumpkin carving and bracelet-making station) and Warner Bros., however, seemed more muted than on many other days: no bulging crowds spilling into the streets, and fewer food and coffee trucks than before. It was comedy day on the Warner Bros. picket line. There were...

What started from a stolen car, a dead dog, and numerous headshots has now become a full-blown assassin universe. The Continental: From the World of John Wick is a prequel series to the global hit John Wick film franchise and it tells the origin story of Winston Scott from the main films. Set in the 1970s New York the Peacock mini-series shows us how Winston became the manager of the titular hotel which is a haven for assassins around the world.
While it doesn’t compare to the main John Wick film in any way The Continental has its own charms and action sequences that will surely be loved by the fans. The Continental is fully able to pull off a self-contained story with massive stakes and a brilliant character who will now be a part of the cannon forever.

"It's a very lonely place... if we didn't have the music, I don't know how we'd cope." Central City Media has revealed an official trailer for a music documentary film titled The Job of Songs, made by filmmaker Lila Schmitz. The film won the Best International Documentary at last year's Galway Film Festival. In Doolin (see Google Maps), an isolated village teetering on the western edge of Ireland, a community of musicians seek joy and connection through music as they face a modernizing world. An intimate doc conversing with may Irish people who want to keep the music playing. "Music is a way for us to unleash our feelings so that we may express the unspoken," the director explains. Music has the power to bring people together. The Continental: From the world of John Wick’ held its panel at the San Diego Comic Con (Sdcc) and showcased some intense footage giving us an idea about both its tone and action.
While the show will apparently have a somewhat lighter tone, audiences should not make the mistake that this will get McU-fied as it still contains plenty of amazing action, full of blood and gore. Set in the world of 1970’s New York City, the show will dive deeper into the franchise’s obscure criminal mythology, exploring both the origins of the eponymous hotel for assassins in New York, as well as how actor Ian McShane’s character Winston Scott became the proprietor of its New York branch.
As reported by Collider, the panel opened with a behind-the-scenes featurette, with a long intro primarily focusing on the setting and the new environments. The footage also showcased familiar settings...

The three-part series is set in 1975 and centres on the assassin hotel from the “John Wick” movies.
“The show runners actually came, we heard a lot of pitches and we were debating whether or not we wanted to do a similar timeline of John Wick or an alternate timeline,” Lee said.
“We felt like doing a prequel, doing an alternate timeline gave us a lot of flexibility just in running parallel tracks,” she continued. “But what I think people love so much about John Wick and the John Wick world is learning about the hotels and the Easter eggs.”

The 2023 Oscars returned to the Dolby Theatre on Sunday for Hollywood’s biggest night of the year. The Oscars telecast may have featured Everything Everywhere All at Once taking home the top prize, as well as six other awards, but the cameras didn’t catch everything. From Ke Huy Quan’s emotional reunions to Lady Gaga’s heart of gold, here are some of the things the cameras missed during the 95th annual awards show.
You Get a Box, You Get a Box, Everybody Gets a Box
Jimmy Kimmel provided attendees at the 2023 Oscars with snack boxes under their seats that were topped with a caricature of a bearded Kimmel holding an Oscar and included Adam Shapiro’s Shappy Pretzels, a box of Sour Patch Kids or Milk Duds, an eco-conscious aluminum bottle of Open Water and a handwritten note from the host himself. “Isn’t this a nice surprise?...

When Jimmy Kimmel last hosted the Oscars in 2018, the TV vet made sure ticketed guests were prepared for the show to go long (as it typically does) by delivering curated “lunchboxes” packed with snacks under each seat inside the Dolby Theatre. Inside were gourmet chips, cookies, gummy bears, cookies and snack bars while the outside featured artwork from one of nine nominated best pictures.
As Kimmel returned to the Dolby on Sunday night for a third outing as host, he made sure the night was just as charming on the snacks front. He and his staff along with the Academy offered up another round of food boxes for the 2023 Oscars audience, expected to be at capacity of 3,400.
The boxes — covered with a caricature of a bearded Kimmel holding an Oscar — featured Shappy Pretzel Co., eco-conscious alumimun bottles of Open Water, Sour Patch candy and another “handwritten” note from the host himself.

Laundry Room Guy was a rather obscure Gilmore Girls character. He eventually got the name William, but it was meeting Rory (Alexis Bledel) at Yale in her dorm laundry room that made Peter Klausner stand out. People remembered Laundry Room Guy long after Gilmore Girls Season 4, including when Klausner was getting married.

Gilmore Girls made the entire cast fashion icons. Whether you wanted to emulate the whimsical looks of Stars Hollow, or the celebrity glamor of stars on the red carpet, the cast of Gilmore Girls were role models. As Jess, Milo Ventimiglia was a small town boy on the show. In real life he was more experimental with fashion. He got one look from Rob Estes, who played Jess’s father on two episodes.

Gilmore Girls was guest star Adam Shapiro’s big break. His first professional job, after landing a role on The Andy Dick Show as an intern, Shapiro has worked steadily ever since. Gilmore Girls was also his biggest celebrity encounter, and not the cast of the show. The filming of Gilmore Girls overlapped with NBC megahit Friends, and Shapiro met the Friends stars via Gilmore Girls.

Sean Gunn was on 137 episodes of Gilmore Girls and returned for A Year in the Life. They’ve been much closer since the show ended because Gunn is no longer afraid of them.

Gilmore Girls launched Adam Shapiro’s acting career. While in college, Shapiro did a walk-on role on The Andy Dick Show, but Gilmore Girls started his process of auditioning and landing roles. He’d have much more dialogue in subsequent roles, but Shapiro remembers his one line on Gilmore Girls being especially challenging.

Alex Lesman (Billy Burke) was one of Lorelai Gilmore (Lauren Graham)’s boyfriends on Gilmore Girls. Universal Pictures has dropped the first trailer for She Said, the Carey Mulligan and Zoe Kazan-led drama based on the 2017 New York Times exposé outing Harvey Weinstein’s decades of sexual abuse.
Written by Rebecca Lenkiewicz and based on the best-selling memoir She Said: Breaking the Sexual Harassment Story That Helped Ignite a Movement, the film centers on real-life Times reporters Megan Twohey (Mulligan) and Jodi Kantor (Kazan) as they work — amid legal threats and intimidation — at the early height of the ongoing #MeToo movement to publish the bombshell investigation into one of Hollywood’s then-most powerful men.

Weinstein was eventually sentenced to 23 years in prison on charges of sexual assault and third-degree rape.

George Shapiro, the deeply respected talent manager, producer and co-founder of Shapiro/West & Associates, died Thursday evening of natural causes at his home in Beverly Hills. He was 91.
Along with his partner and childhood friend Howard West, Shapiro was personal manager to comedy greats Jerry Seinfeld, Andy Kaufman and Carl Reiner, among others. He and West would go on to executive produce Seinfeld, one of the top comedy series of all time.
Born in New York, Shapiro spent summers during his teenage years as a lifeguard at the Tamiment Resort in the Poconos, where he met performers like Dick Shawn, Pat Carroll and Carol Burnett, singer Barbara Cook, and choreographer Herb Ross. That’s when he also got to know talent agents.

In my discussion with Lila Schmitz, following the World Premiere of her debut feature The Job Of Songs in the Doc NYC Sonic Cinema programme (a highlight of the 12th edition), she mentions first seeing the Cliffs of Moher in Harry Potter films. The Doolin, County Clare community of storytellers/musicians, Ireland and Sam Shepard, grace in Bruno Dumont and France, and the shot of cows walking in time to Yvonne Casey’s Kieran Jig played over Clare FM by radio host Eoin O'Neill all came up.
Lila Schmitz with Anne-Katrin Titze on stepping into a session: “Being allowed to witness the community that the musicians are creating for each other and for anybody who cares to listen.”
