After his famed role as Don Draper on AMC’s critically acclaimed drama series Mad Men, Jon Hamm has experienced a particularly peculiar career transition in recent years. Also known for his work in Sucker Punch & Top Gun: Maverick, the actor, 53, has acted in both highly regarded film and TV roles during his career.
But did you know, nestled within his portfolio of work, there lies a film that has almost slipped through the cracks of cinematic memory?
John Hamm in Stolen | 2 Bridges Productions
In 2009, he took on the role in Stolen, a frequently overlooked chapter of Hamm’s life that true cinephiles may recall. Though the actor’s renowned charm and depth could elevate any role, this murder mystery remarkably stood as an endeavor that slipped past audiences and critics alike.

Chicago – On paper, “Stolen” probably looked like the kind of competent thriller that could get once-rising star Josh Lucas back into the spotlight and prove to producers that “Mad Men” star Jon Hamm could carry a motion picture. Sadly, lackluster direction of what is essentially no more interesting than an extended episode of “Cold Case” squanders the talent of both men, a pair of actors who deserve better showcases.
Blu-Ray Rating: 2.0/5.0
Josh Lucas once looked like he’d be the next leading man with roles in films like “Sweet Home Alabama” and “Poseidon,” but the last few years haven’t been nearly as kind to the underrated actor as he’s virtually disappeared from the big screen with films like “Peacock” and “Stolen” going straight-to-dvd in most markets. On the other side of “Stolen,” Jon Hamm is just now trying to turn his small-screen success into leading man status. One...

If you’re a parent, you’ll be doubly disturbed by Stolen, which delivers twin tales of child abduction and murder. Advertised as being based on a true story, the film is loosely inspired by the notorious “Boy in the Box” case. The basic scenario of a child’s body being discovered, buried in a box, is really the only aspect of the true crime utilized here. The rest is completely fictionalized. The real “Boy in the Box” mystery remains unsolved, but Stolen reinterprets events and adds a second slaying since one apparently wasn’t depressing enough.
Helmed by freshman director Anders Anderson, Stolen tells the parallel stories of grieving fathers dealing with the loss of a son. The main story takes place in 2008, where we find detective Tom Adkins (Jon Hamm) still haunted by the unsolved murder of his son 8 years before. He thinks he knows who did it...

When Andy Steinman and Anders Anderson set out to make a feature film with no prior experience, they knew there would be obstacles. It wasn't that Steinman and Anderson were entirely unfamiliar with the process--Steinman had previously been a cinematographer and Anderson had been an actor--but to assemble and manage all the moving parts that create a feature-length film, the pair knew they had their work cut out for them. The first and biggest challenge, however, was creating a partnership that could endure the creative process. Steinman and Anderson met in 2004 while working on a short film called Back East and it was there that the idea to collaborate on a feature film first came to be. "We started collaborating and making sure that our partnership was going to be the way we wanted to be," says Steinman. "We just...

Don’t let the overly qualified cast list fool you. Stolen Lives is about eight commercial breaks short of being a movie of the week, not one, but two kidnapped child tales that intersect in highly sporadic and, overall, loose-fitting ways. It feels like it’s moving fast, but it plods and plods until all the loose ends seem to magically tie themselves off and then, simply, end.
Jon Hamm and Josh Lucas star as two fathers in completely different eras. Hamm plays a cop in the present day who is obsessed with his missing son. He, along with his wife, played by Rhona Mitra, is the first on the scene when news hits him that a child’s body has been found buried underneath a construction site. Upon taking the skeletal remains to a pathologist, he learns the child is not his son but, rather, that of a child...
