While it feels silly to point out that Alan Wake 2 is a horror game, much has been made of the transition from Alan Wake’s style of Action Horror to Alan Wake 2’s brand of more “pure” Survival Horror. In fact, quite a few people seem to be wondering if Alan Wake 2 will be too scary for them to enjoy.
That topic even came up during our recent interview with Alan Wake 2 directors Sam Lake and Kyle Rowley. The pair were well aware of the challenges of making a properly scary horror game that isn’t so effective that people end up not wanting to play it. That’s especially true for this sequel that is building upon a scary (but generally slightly more accessible) horror gaming experience.
So how scary is Alan Wake 2? Truth be told, it’s a walk through a slightly spooky park compared to the absolute scariest video games out there.

New Canadian Black talent faces many obstacles to making real inroads on film and TV sets, some hidden or barely acknowledged.
But music video-turned-film and TV director Julien Christian Lutz – also known as “Hotline Bling” helmer Director X – sees one barrier in plain sight and easily surmounted: offering support and guidance to emerging Black talent so they can know their way around Canadian film and TV sets.
“You walk onto those sets and into those writing rooms, they’re very white places,” Lutz, co-founder and managing partner of indie banner Fela, told The Hollywood Reporter ahead of a Toronto Film Festival panel on Sept. 11, entitled Empowering Rising Voices: Advocating for Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Through Film, and presented by indeed.
Training Black talent is required across the industry, in front and behind the camera. “We have a talent pool that’s been neglected. They haven’t had the experience they need.

When I was in high school, one of my first jobs was working at a big chain video store. While it was fun to be around movies and movie fans all day, it did have all the pitfalls of any public facing customer service job. Weird customers, understaffing, and repetitive work were all par for the course, but the worst part was the eerie feeling that would sometimes creep over you as you were closing. There’s something about the liminal time where the store is no longer open, but you’ve still got stuff to do before you leave. You feel strangely exposed when someone comes knocking on your door after hours, still feeling obligated to respond to them but without the protections of the social norms of an active public space. This is the feeling that Rewind or Die, the latest game published by Torture Star Video and developed by Comp-3 Interactive,...

During the 16-bit era, it was almost an unwritten rule that you had to have a boss at the end of every level. It was just the formula at the time, especially in an era dominated by side-scrollers.
Some developers would take the easy way out and make an enemy with a simple pattern that could be defeated in three hits. And that was fine.
But other devs got really creative, crafting screen-filling monstrosities or multi-stage tests of endurance that required players to deploy every skill they’d learned throughout the game. In other words they made enemies truly deserving of the title “boss.”
These are the 15 best Sega Genesis boss fights ever:

Despite mixed reviews, The X-Files revival was a ratings hit, with audiences hungry to find out what had happened to Agents Mulder and Scully seven years after the extremely dodgy X-Files: I Want to Believe feature film. Buoyed up by their success, Fox commissioned a further 10 episode season, which is currently shooting in Vancouver (it wouldn’t be right for the X-Files to film anywhere else, right?).
Now, thanks to an interview that show creator Chris Carter did with EW, we have an idea of what everyone’s favorite paranormal investigators will be dealing with. Cast your mind back to last season’s finale and you’ll remember that there was an alien virus sweeping the planet, with Scully mysteriously immune to its effects. It left Mulder dying and the two trapped in gridlock unable to get medical attention.

Chyna lip-synced a little bit in the video, in addition to caressing her curves and licking her lips. Towards the end of the video, Chyna gave a smirk and an eye-roll as Belly rapped, "You were seduced by her sin / Don't let Lucifer in /She took you for everything / You let her do it again." It almost wouldn’t be America’s Next Top Model without some sort of music-related challenge.

Skrillex surprised his fans last week when he appeared in a teaser alongside Kylie Jenner for fashion designer Alexander Wang’s upcoming fall campaign, contributing some new music for the advertisement along the way. Now the full version of the video has been released, with an extended version of the track first heard in the preview.
Filmed by Director X, the man behind Drake’s viral “Hotline Bling” video, the Alexander Wang campaign features a group of celebrities taking over an uninhabited mansion as they throw a rowdy house party. Skrillex may seem a bit out of place among the video’s entourage, which includes the likes of Kylie Jenner, Big Sean, A$AP Ferg and more, but the music he’s provided ties the whole ad together and will have fans hoping for an official release of the full track.

MTV’s annual Video Music Awards are set to air this Sunday night, and — as usual — the film world couldn’t possibly care less. And that’s understandable. After all, we have enough award shows of our own to worry about, and the VMAs are better known for Britney Spears tongue-kissing Madonna (what a scandal!) than they are for celebrating great art.
But perhaps we’re being a bit too hasty and dismissive. The interplay between movies and music videos has been thoroughly documented, but a glance at the list of recent Vma winners is enough to suggest that relationship is growing stronger, and might even demand a greater degree of critical attention. “The Hunger Games: Mockingjay” director Francis Lawrence may not be receiving many accolades for his film work, but the clip he created for Lady Gaga’s “Bad Romance” won MTV’s highest honor. “Detention” was widely...

Tron 3 is no longer in development, so Zayn Malik's "Like I Would" music video will have to suffice. The 23-year-old singer premiered the music video for his latest single overnight, following the releases of "Pillowtalk," "iT's YoU" and "BeFoUr" from his album, Mind of Mine. Though Malik has not confirmed that the video was inspired by 1982's Tron or 2010's Tron-Legacy, it nevertheless feels referential.
