True crime is getting more and more entertaining by the day and I don’t if that’s a good thing or a bad one. We have another brilliant true crime drama series, Under the Bridge, created by Quinn Shephard. Based on a 2005 book of the same name by Rebecca Godfrey, the Hulu series is set in 1997 and it follows the murder case of a 14-year-old girl which we see through the eyes of local police officer Cam Bentland and the author Godfrey. Under the Bridge stars Lily Gladstone and Riley Keough in the lead roles with Virtika Gupta, Chloe Guidry, Javon “Wanna” Walton, and Izzy G starring in supporting roles. So, if you love the thrilling and dreadful story of Under the Bridge, here are some other shows that have similar tone and story elements that you should check out next.

Fear the Walking Dead cast member Colman Domingo has produced a horror film called It’s What’s Inside, which just earned a lot of positive reviews after having its premiere at the Sundance Film Festival. While every decade has movies that fly under the radar, the addition of multiple streaming services in the 2010s gives us quite the list to work off of. While everyone’s favorite decade for horror is usually the ’80s or ’90s, there are far more hidden gems to find now than ever before. How a movie with a great cast, good production value, and the vaunted “based on a true story angle” was somehow successful at the box office and entirely forgotten just a little over a decade after release is just bizarre. It’s one of the more interesting demon takeover movies we’ve seen and definitely earns its title of...

With both title and central buddy dynamic tipping hat to “Superbad,” among other raunchy teen comedies, “Supercool” is not the kind of movie that wins prizes for originality. Nor is Finnish director Teppo Airaksinen’s first U.S.-shot, English-language project as outrageous as it thinks it is. Nonetheless, this energetic spin through high school antics redolent of everything since “Ferris Bueller” is colorful and amusing enough to entertain viewers looking for a familiar mix of bad-taste gags in a squeaky-clean suburban setting. Vertical Entertainment is releasing it to 20 U.S. theater screens as well as on-demand platforms Feb. 11.

Exclusive: Vertical Entertainment has acquired North American rights to the comedy Supercool, starring Jake Short (This Is the Year), Miles J. Harvey (The Babysitter) and Damon Wayans Jr., with plans to release it in theaters and on digital and VOD on February 11.
The film from director Teppo Airaksinen (Juice) centers on Neil Tobbler (Short), who has gone through most of his life feeling invisible and fantasizing about his long-time crush, Summer (Madison Davenport). When Neil and his best friend Gilbert (Harvey) find out that Summer is throwing a birthday party, Gilbert pressures Neil to ask her for an invitation. The plan fails, and Neil embarrasses himself in front of the girl of his dreams.
Desperate and humiliated, Neil wishes upon the universe to be someone else—a supercool version of himself—the next day waking up and realizing that the universe has granted him his wish.

The British anthology series “Black Mirror” won Best TV Movie at the Emmys for the last three years: “San Junipero” in 2017, “USS Callister” in 2018, and “Bandersnatch” in 2019. The show is back in the 2020 awards race, but now it’s in brand new territory. The TV academy ruled that the series’s standalone episodes were too short to compete as movies. But will it be just as popular with voters as a drama series? Scroll down to see the show’s 28 entries across the Emmy ballots.
“Black Mirror” tells a different story in every episode, but with a common theme: the future of technology and its potentially sinister effects on humanity. The most recent season consisted of only three episodes: “Striking Vipers” about college friends reuniting later in life, “Smithereens” about a dramatic drive with a ride share driver, and “Rachel, Jack and Ashley Too” about a teenager longing to connect...

“Black Mirror’s” Emmy journey this season has had more twists than a “Black Mirror” episode. After getting permission to stay in the Best TV Movie category, despite its submission “Smithereens” being five minutes short of the new 75-minute requirement, the show was shunted to drama last week. That means instead of the limited/TV movie acting races, “Black Mirror’s” Season 5 stars can now choose to enter in drama lead, supporting or guest. And if any of them or Netflix are torn, take it from us: Go guest.
Current Emmy rules stipulate that performers who appear in less than 50 percent of a show’s season are eligible to compete in guest, but are not required to, so they can pick whatever category they want. But to put it bluntly, guest is arguably where all “Black Mirror” actors belong. The show is an anthology series with a different cast every episode.

Erwich, who was speaking at his exec session at the Winter TCA panel, told Deadline it was “continuing to evaluate” whether to hand Abigail Spencer-fronted Reprisal a second season, “has not made any further decisions on Castle Rock” and is “continuing to talk” about Light As A Feather.
This comes after the streaming service handed comedy Dollface and music drama Wu-Tang: An American Saga, second seasons earlier this morning.
Svp, Originals Erwich said, “Reprisal really just launched, we’re continuing to evaluate the performance of the show. We’ve been really thrilled with the reaction to it.”

Reprisal is an atmospheric tale of revenge.
With Abigail Spencer at the wheel, the story focuses on a woman who embarks on a vengeful campaign against the gang who left her for dead.
The only negative is that you would think the people who left her for dead would, you know, check that she was actually dead.
They would have saved a whole lot of trouble, but at least we get to see this revenge mission through the eyes of a multi-layered female who goes by the motto that revenge is a dish best served cold.
It's a different role for Spencer to work with. One minute her complicated character could be a loving wife you wouldn't think would turn to a world of violence. The next, well, let's just say you wouldn't want to get on the wrong side of Doris Quinn.
The role further proves that Spencer is...

Oh, there will be Reprisal against some very bad men, and Abigail Spencer is gunning to deliver it via Hulu’s palpably pulpy hyper-noir revenge drama.
Created by Josh Corbin (StartUp) and releasing all 10 episodes on Friday, Dec. 6, Reprisal stars Spencer as Katherine Harlow, a bold brunette who in the very first scene is brutally punished for undisclosed transgressions, and left for dead. Years later, she resurfaces as Doris Quinn, a soft-spoken blonde who is furtively unfurling a dark revengenda. This review of Reprisal contains no spoilers.
In the era of Peak TV, it’s easy to assume that we probably don’t need another tale of revenge, divided families that do one another wrong, and the unforeseen consequences of years-long vendettas. And maybe we don’t—which is why it’s a good thing that Hulu’s Reprisal manages to put what feels like a truly fresh spin on this sort of story.
How? By making it about the women at its center.
The bones of Reprisal are indeed built from very familiar pieces. Traditionally, this kind of revenge thriller is a story—and a genre, come to that—that’s very masculine, and generally told from a male perspective. It’s got gearhead gangs and strip clubs,...

Imagine if you put “Twin Peaks” and “Sin City” in a blender with a splash of Coen brothers-style criminality and a heaping helping of fierce female vengeance, you would get “Reprisal,” a so-called “hyper-noir” story that will be available on the Hulu streaming site starting on December 6.
Abigail Spencer, who played Daniel Holden’s sister on “Rectify,” stars as a woman left for dead by her brother Burt (Rory Cochrane) and his gang. She assumes a new identity as a restaurant owner and chef while caring for her ailing rich husband (Ray McKinnon of “Deadwood” and “Sons of Anarchy”). But when he passes away, her Doris Quinn aka Katherine Harlow turns full-on femme fatale as she attempts to rescue her niece from the same violent gang of gearheads who tried to kill her.

Hulu is bringing a time and style bending thriller series, Reprisal, to its stream this winter. Abigail Spencer will star.
You know what the world could use more of? Stylish thrillers set in an unclear timeframe that deal extensively with '50s style hot rod racing gangs. Thankfully, Hulu agreed and ordered the upcoming Abigail Spencer-starring drama Reprisal to series.
Reprisal is a femme fatale thriller series written by Josh Corbin and directed by Jonathan Van Tulleken. Corbin also serves as producer alongside Warren Littlefield (producer of The Handmaid's Tale) and Barry Jossen. A+E Studios and The Littlefield Company were the studios behind the pilot. “Timeless” alum Abigail Spencer is back on the small screen in “Reprisal,” the first teaser for Hulu’s upcoming thriller series. And she’s rocking a fantastic blonde wig while kicking ass, taking names and being underestimated. But as she so eloquently puts it, “being underestimated is the greatest advantage you can have over other people.”
Here’s the logline for the series: A hyper-noir story that follows a relentless femme fatale who, after being left for dead, sets out to take revenge against her brother and his bombastic gang of gearheads.
Watch the video above to see Spencer — and her wig– team up with a rough crew to get the vengeance that she’s looking for.

Despite Netflix‘s “Black Mirror” dominating the Emmy Awards in recent years with eight overall wins including three for Best TV Movie, the anthology series has never been nominated for a single Golden Globe. Talk about spooky! That could all change this year thanks to the Season 5 entry titled “Rachel, Jack and Ashley Too” — aka the Miley Cyrus episode (watch the trailer below).

Mahershala Ali will be back on your small screen. Fresh off of his stint on “True Detective,” the two-time Academy Award winner will join “Ramy,” it was announced Friday at the Television Critics Association press tour session for Hulu.

Miley Cyrus has given us a lot to chew on over the years, giving us her punchy Hannah Montana bops, wacky Dead Petz experiments, flower-powered Younger Now tunes, and recently, trippy collaborations with Mark Ronson. Her latest project seemingly bridges all of those things together as she plays a hyperrealistic version of herself on season five of Charlie Brooker's twisty Black Mirror series in "Rachel, Jack, and Ashley Too."
The episode covers a lot of ground when it comes to Black Mirror concepts, exploring how technology impacts celebrity culture, self-perception, grief, and even pest control. Still, it's funny, thoughtful, and features developed female characters without being too preachy. If you're still digesting the episode and want to get a clearer picture of it, here is a deep dive into Black Mirror's most musical venture yet.

Spoiler Alert: Do not read if you have not yet watched the fifth season of “Black Mirror,” streaming now on Netflix.
The fifth season of Netflix’s “Black Mirror” features three new tales of modern life affected by the future technology — but the worlds depicted aren’t as bleak as in past seasons.
“We sometimes get frustrated when people characterize the show as being anti-technology, because we tend to see it as a neutral thing itself — it’s just a powerful thing,” executive producer Charlie Brooker tells Variety. “So, it’s just our characters dealing with this great power.”
But, just because the episodes including “Smithereens,” starring Andrew Scott as a man who kidnaps a social app company employee (Damson Idris) as a way to get to the founder (Topher Grace), tell stories about connections enabled by technology, Brooker and executive producer Annabel Jones aren’t necessarily saying that technology...

Black Mirror Season 5 Episode 3
It’s fitting the Miley Cyrus was chosen to embody trapped pop sensation Ashely O in Black Mirror Season 5’s “Rachel, Jack, and Ashley Too,” as her own Disney-fied past is likely filled with similar stories of content restriction and yearning to stretch her art to darker or more adult places. However, Cyrus is also perfectly cast because the plot of “Rachel, Jack, and Ashley Too” is eerily similar to the sort of feature one could imagine Cyrus starring in back when she was under Mickey Mouse’s thumb.
Remove some of the curse words and drug content and slap a zanier score on top, and it’s not hard to imagine this exact story as the basis...

Netflix’s planned “Little Black Mirror” promotional shorts will no longer be called “Little Black Mirror.”
The short video series, first announced last week, will now be titled “Stories From Our Future.” The three shorts are aimed at Spanish-speaking audiences and are inspired by fan homages to the Charlie Brooker and Annabel Jones’ anthology series “Black Mirror.”
On June 10, YouTube content creators Rudy Mancuso, Lele Pons and Juanpa Zurita will release all three videos on their YouTube channels simultaneously. The shorts star Mancuso, Anwar Jibawi, Maia Mitchell, Pons, Hannah Stocking, and Zurita. The shorts were originally to be released on YouTube on May 26, June 2 and June 6 on the Netflix América Latina channel. Those dates have been pushed back so fans will get the chance to watch Season 5 of “Black Mirror,” which debuts on Netflix on June 5.

“Black Mirror” fans have just over a week until they are finally returned to the twisted world of Netflix’s tech-obsessed anthology series. But until then, they can spend their hours deciphering what the clues in these new Season 5 posters tell us about the three-episode installment, starring Miley Cyrus, Anthony Mackie and Andrew Scott.
The trio of key art for Scott’s “Smithereens,” Mackie’s “Striking Vipers,” and Cyrus’ “Rachel, Jack and Ashley, Too,” don’t tell us much directly — but does the Charlie Brooker-created show ever give anything away before it’s ready to? Nope, you’re gonna have to look a little closer at the images to find a hint or two.
To assist you on your theorizing, here’s the description for “Smithereens,” starring Scott, Damson Idris and Topher Grace: A cab driver with an agenda becomes the centre of attention on a day that rapidly spirals out of control.
