Pride, the celebration of the Lgbtq community through the month of June each year, is as good an occasion to mark quite how much progress in the battle for equality has been made, and how far there is to go. “Believer,” a sweetly earnest new documentary airing on HBO, has plenty of the latter; it exposes the painful ostracization and hatred of gay people in the Mormon community. But it shows plenty of progress, too, embodied in the person of Dan Reynolds, an appealing protagonist whose status as a proud ally is a splendid and sympathetic example of a society-wide change of heart that’s happening, albeit too slowly.
Reynolds, the lead singer of Grammy-winning rock group Imagine Dragons, is straight, and married to a woman. But he’s become increasingly troubled by the antigay beliefs, implicitly and explicitly stated, of his faith, the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints...

Well this just doesn't make a lot of sense, but we're willing to role with it anyway. Variety is reporting that beloved animated icon Betty Boop is returning to movie theaters, courtesy of a deal forged between Simon Cowell's Syco Entertainment and Animal Logic Entertainment, the animation studio behind "The Lego Movie," working in conjunction with Fleischer Studios, who owns the rights to the character. Boo-boo-be-doo?
The character has been off of movie screens since the late thirties (and the last movie didn't even feature Betty Boop), although she did make a memorable appearance in "Who Framed Roger Rabbit," as a waitress at the Ink & Paint Club (the code phrase to get in? "Walt sent me") Boop first appeared in cartoons in the late twenties, hence her flapper ensemble, and in several memorable appearances danced with live action personalities. Apparently the new film will be completely animated.

In one of the strangest pairings you are ever likely to hear, "American Idol" producer/judge Simon Cowell is spearheading a feature film reboot of classic 1930s cartoon character Betty Boop.
Cowell's Syco Entertainment, "The Lego Movie" animators Animal Logic Entertainment and Boop rights owners Fleischer Studios are teaming to develop and produce the first feature-length film about the jazz age flapper charicature.
The music-driven hybrid animated comedy has no writer or director currently attached, but Cowell, Adam Milano, Zareh Nalbandian and Jason Lust will produce.
Boop was one of the best-known and popular cartoon characters in the world, appearing in over one-hundred cartoons. She was one of the first and most famous sex symbols on the animated screen, and last appeared in a brief cameo in 1988's "Who Framed Roger Rabbit".

One Direction are getting super sized! Morgan Spurlock is set to direct the 3D documentary about the teen sensations.
Following in the footsteps of Justin Bieber and Katy Perry the movie will combine concert material with behind the scenes footage, charting the bands journey from their X Factor beginning to world wide domination.
“This is an incredible opportunity and an amazing moment in time for the band,” Spurlock said. “To capture this journey and share it with audiences around the world will be an epic undertaking that I am proud to be a part of.”
Spurlock first made his name in 2004 with Oscar nominated documentary Super Size Me, where he looked at effects of fast food by consuming nothing but McDonalds for thirty days. He has gone on to make other documentary features such as Where in the World Is Osama Bin Laden?, The Greatest Movie Ever Sold and TV documentary series 30 Days.

Columbia has proven its mettle, picking up the much sought after Johnny Rosenthal spec "Iron Jack" for seven figures.
Many studios were vying for the comedic action adventure, which is set in the 1930s and involves a renowned novelist and his quest for a legendary treasure.
Rosenthal has found a treasure of his own, with Columbia playing $1.25 million against $2 million for the screenplay.
"This is one of the funniest and most original scripts we have read in a long, long time," said the Columbia co-president of production Doug Belgrad.
Todd Garner ("Next") is producing, with Sean Robins co-producing. Rosenthal's manager, George Heller, and Jeremy Bell are executive producers.
Sam Dickerman and Adam Milano are overseeing "Jack".
"Jack" is the second comedy adventure involving treasure hunting sold within the last week. Earlier this week, 20th Century Fox picked up the spec "Beaujolais", by Mike Arnold and Chris Poole, with Peter and Bobby Farrelly producing.
Rosenthal has several projects in development, including "Friendly Skies" for Paramount, with Alec Baldwin and Will Arnett attached to star.
