Lawsuits from two men who accused Michael Jackson of abusing them as children in the HBO documentary Leaving Neverland have been brought back from dismissal.
The 2nd District Court of Appeal on Friday reversed a ruling from a Los Angeles Superior Court judge dismissing the suits from Wade Robson and James Safechuck. They will be able to proceed with claims that a pair of corporations owned by the singer had a legal duty to protect them from sexual abuse Jackson is alleged to have inflicted on them when they were children.
The justices found that it would be “perverse” to find that the corporations should be excused from a responsibility to oversee the safety of the plaintiffs because they’re solely owned by Jackson.
The ruling marks the second time the suits, filed in 2013, were restored after being dismissed. In 2020, Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Mark Young found that Robson...

Grace Covington (Scout Taylor-Compton) wants nothing more than to find her birth parents. We’re told her former foster child has been looking for quite some time, perhaps helped in part by her Princeton-graduate, Hamptons-vacationing jock of a boyfriend’s (Nolan Gerard Funk’s Jack) money. Well, she finally has a lead thanks to the owner (King Orba’s Frank) of an old plantation down in Charleston—apparently near where she was born. He’s invited her to come stay and hear what he knows to point her in the right direction. Jack agrees to accompany her despite seeming like the kind of guy who’s never gone below the Mason-Dixon line in his life, declaring his undying love before throwing her to the wolves that are his parents on the way down.
It’s the usual introduction for this type of film: urban comfort making way towards backwoods anxiety.

The high concept, low budget film is about a murderer who dies and finds himself on trial in Hell, caught between a bitter prosecutor and an inexperienced defense attorney. The entire setup is based around being in "limbo" with a colorful cast of characters. James Purefoy stars a Lucifer, with Lucian Charles Collier as Balthazar, plus Veronica Cartwright, Rebekah Kennedy, Scottie Thompson, Peter Jacobson, Lauryn Canny, Richard Riehle, and Lew Temple. This look that bad, but doesn't look that good either. Here's the first official trailer (+ new poster) for Mark Young's Limbo, direct from YouTube: A murderer named Jimmy (Lew Temple) finds himself on trial in Hell, caught between a bitter prosecutor and an inexperienced defense attorney.

Monica Veiga and Nathascha Rengifo will lead the Latin American business, excluding Mexico and Brazil, Phil King is in charge of Canada, Dai Huang will lead China, Noemie Weisse will boss France and Zelda Stewart is in charge in Italy.
This comes after Sony Pictures TV chairman Mike Hopkins reorganized a number of areas of the company, mostly on the distribution side. Sony Pictures TV will undergo an unspecified number of layoffs as part of a divisional reorg, which will include the creation of a direct-to-consumer unit.
In a memo on the changes sent to staff on Wednesday morning, Sony Pictures TV Chairman Mike Hopkins (pictured above) outlined three areas to be reorganized. Hopkins said that the company will combine global networks operations and worldwide distribution/home etertainment into a single business unit that will then operate in a territory management model that “brings together, under a single local leader, businesses that have been historically separate.”
“With this approach, we gain a more efficient structure giving regional leaders, along with their direct reports in each country, the ability to make smart, strategic business decisions, while keeping local consumers at the core of what we do,” Hopkins said.

Sony Pictures Television is streamlining its international TV operations, consolidating the management of its worldwide channels, home entertainment, and program sales activities under the leadership of Sony Pictures Entertainment distribution president Keith Le Goy.
The restructuring unveiled Wednesday will cost an undetermined number of jobs as the integration of three previously distinct divisions is completed. A handful of senior executive posts in international distribution have already been eliminated. The move to slim down Sony TV’s international ranks was signaled in February when the studio pink-slipped the leader of its networks unit, Andy Kaplan, and home video arm, Man Jit Singh.
The changes come as part of a broader overhaul of studio operations that Sony Pictures TV chairman Mike Hopkins has been hammering out with his boss, Sony Pictures Entertainment CEO Tony Vinciquerra. Both Fox alums joined the studio last year.
The goal is to eliminate redundancies and de-silo Sony TV.

"You don't understand what's coming... you have no idea." IFC Midnight has released an official trailer for an indie horror thriller titled Feral, from horror director Mark Young. The film is about a group of students who fight to survive a weekend in the woods when they suddenly start falling prey to a horrifying virus that turns them into rabid, rampaging cannibal-zombies. The script for this film is co-written by Adam Frazier, who also writes reviews for the site. Feral stars Scout Taylor-Compton, Olivia Luccardi, Lew Temple, Renee Olstead, Brock Kelly, Landry Allbright and George Finn. This looks freaky and cool, almost like a fun mashup between Evil Dead and It Comes at Night and a few other forest horror films. Watch out. Here's the new official trailer (+ posters) for Mark Young's Feral, direct from YouTube: Your best friend has just been infected with a horrifying virus that will...

Sony has struck a three-series deal with Nigeria-based EbonyLife, with the first project set to be an action drama inspired by the Dahomey Warriors, the female fighters who came together to protect their kingdom.
Dahomey was a West African kingdom in what is now the Republic of Benin. EbonyLife and Sony Pictures Television are co-developing the female warriors project, which Spt will distribute internationally.
Nigeria-based EbonyLife launched in 2013 as an upscale international black TV network. It produces 1,000 hours of English-language content a year. The first trailer for Feral has emerged from the darkness. From director Mark Young (Tooth and Nail, 2007), the film's script was partially developed by writer Adam Frazier. In the film, a wild animal attacks six medical students. The results are catastrophic. Also, Feral stars: Scout Taylor-Compton, Olivia Luccardi and Lew Temple. Slated for a 2017 or 2018 release, the first trailer for Feral shows a dire and bloody situation. The friends-in-the-woods storyline is familiar. Young is aware of this tried and true plot device: "I don't think there's a more hackneyed concept than kids camping in the woods." However, Young hopes to bring a new monster into the terror fold. He says of his antagonists: "a creature that is neither zombie, werewolf, or vampire, but has some of the traits of them all." These creatures clash with the film's character, in this exciting new clip! Release Date: 2017, 2018. Director: Mark Young. Writers: Mark Young and Adam Frazier.

I liked Mark Young's post apocalyptic thriller Tooth and Nail (review) more than most which makes me pumped to see what he's coking up with Sexy Criminals, a crime flick billed as "a contemporary Bonnie and Clyde."
Synopsis:
Sabrina Ackerman, a young girl obsessed with petty theft, falls for charming bank robber Johnny Ringo. He introduices her to an exciting world of crime and she enthusiastically joins his crew: Eugine lipman, a violent sociapath; and Telly, a sexy and volatile drug addict.
But when the perfect heist goes horribly wrong and turns into a bloodbath, Sabrina flees chased by those who want her dead and Johnny, who wants her back.
Young is currently casting for the film which he wrote and will direct.
Check out the first poster, some storyboards and and Young's demo reel featuring footage from Southern Gothic, Tooth and Nail and Killing Jar after the break.

One can imagine he will soon start spreading his evil word, recruiting small-town stragglers and people looking for a place to go, and a leader to follow. Next would be to start spreading the word even farther to neighboring towns and states; when a person doesn't submit to vampire way of life, the preacher could just bite them anyway. They would be unstoppable, southern, and downright gothic.
Not all this goes down though. The concept of this movie is good, but either from lack of imagination or poor financing, the story doesn't stretch as far as it should. A maniacal preacher does get bit. He does turn into a more maniacal vampire,...

Southern Gothic is an independent horror film that revolves around vampire, preachers, strippers, and a congregation of the undead, which completed in 2007. This sounds like a good premise, but the film, which showed at SXSW, has been described as a "sorry excuse for a horror film," (David Harely, Bloody Disgusting) and "the horror elements feel like something of an afterthought" (Keith Brown, Eye for Film). Yet, the trailer is interesting enough and fans of William Forsythe might want to take a peek. All the details on Southern Gothic are below.
The synopsis for Southern Gothic here:
"Pray for dawn. In the sleepy Southern town of Redemption, a new kind of terror is about to awaken: For burned-out strip club bouncer Hazel Fortune, life has become downward spiral of self-destructive behavior until he s befriended by the young daughter of the club s new dancer. But when the girl is kidnapped...

In an era of filmmaking dominated by giant ensembles, bloated scripts, and CGI-heavy presentations, it can be refreshing to find a pared-down indie thriller with one set and a limited cast. The desire to stumble on to something that can truly be called Hitchcockian is likely to lead a few theatre goers to The Killing Jar, a low budget flick with a few recognizable faces opening in limited release this weekend. Sadly, writer/director Mark Young's film should serve more as a cautionary tale of how easy it is to fall off the rope ...Read more at MovieRetriever.com...

Action films that take place in one setting might come off as boring, but not The Killing Jar. The Killing Jar does fall into the action genre, but this Mark Young production keeps the intensity up by unleashing one sinister character after another. In fact, it is hard to tell who is the central villain as each person is badder than the last. However, The Killing Jar is centrally a well timed and well paced film that utilizes one time period with one set to focus on the characters.
One villain is having a really bad, or a crazy day and he takes out his frustrations on the local deputy. The local policeman does not stand a chance against a murderous tough only know as Doe (Michael Madsen). Doe does not stop with the deputy. Soon the kitchen help, customers, and anyone with a pulse goes down to Doe's illogical vengeance.
