Syfy has canceled its Superman-prequel “Krypton” after two seasons, while also deciding not to move forward with its “Lobo” spinoff, TheWrap has learned.
Both “Krypton” and “Lobo” were from Warner Horizon, which will shop “Krypton” to other outlets, an individual with knowledge of the discussions tells TheWrap. “Krypton,” which centered on Superman’s grandfather, wrapped its second season on Wednesday. The network was also developing a spinoff around the bounty-hunter Lobo, who made his debut this season.
“Krypton” took place about 200 years before Superman existed and centers on his grandfather and his quest to save his planet from destruction.
Cameron Cuffe starred as Seg-El, while Emmett J. Scanlan played Lobo.
“Krypton” also starred Georgina Campbell, Shaun Sipos, Colin Salmon, Ann Ogbomo, Aaron Pierre, Rasmus Hardiker, Wallis Day, Blake Ritson and Ian McElhinney. Krypton was executive produced by David S. Goyer, alongside Cameron Welsh, who served as showrunner.

“Krypton” has been canceled after two seasons at Syfy. In addition, the NBCUniversal cabler is not moving ahead with a planned “Lobo” spinoff.
“Krypton,” set two generations before the destruction of Superman’s titular home planet, follows Superman’s grandfather Seg-El (Cameron Cuffe) as a young man faced with saving his home planet or letting it be destroyed to restore the fate of his future grandson. The series also starred Georgina Campbell, Elliot Cowan, Ann Ogbomo, Aaron Pierre, Rasmus Hardiker, Wallis Day, Blake Ritson, Ian McElhinney, Shaun Sipos, and Colin Salmon.
Season 2 of the series aired earlier this year. Season is currently available to stream on DC Universe, with Season 2 set to come to the service in 2020. According to an individual with knowledge of the situation, studio Warner Horizon Television plans to shop the series to other outlets.

There will be no more Krypton on Syfy. The network has opted not to renew the Superman origin drama series, and the recent Season 2 finale August 14 was a series finale on the NBCUniversal cable network. With the mothership series getting canceled, Syfy also won’t be proceeding with the previously announced Lobo spinoff, which had been in development.
I hear Krypton producer Warner Horizon Scripted Television is in conversations with other outlets, exploring ways to continue the franchise based on DC characters elsewhere. Siblings DC Universe and the upcoming HBO Max streaming platform are considered the most logical options as DC content has been a focus for both. Past seasons of Krypton already run on DC Universe. Season 1 is currently streaming on DC Universe, with Season 2 coming in 2020.

The Krypton Season 2 finale once again has DC Universe sized implications, and leaves us hoping for a Krypton Season 3!
Remember when it seemed bold for Krypton, the show we expected to be a Superman prequel series, introduced the time-traveling Adam Strange, General Zod, as well as Brainiac and Doomsday? Well, hold onto your red trunks because – after the second season went further with Lobo, Brainiac’s homeworld of Colu, Doomsday in action, and the Black Mercy – the Krypton season 2 finale tees up a Krypton Season 3 that should further expands this corner (and alternate timeline) of the DC Universe.
But the finale also opens up a lot of questions that will have fans speculating until Krypton Season 3 premieres (although its renewal still has to be announced). Let’s break down the big ones from tonight’s season finale.
Will Kem-El return as Kem-l?

Warning: This Krypton review contains spoilers for Season 2, Episode 9.
Krypton Season 2, Episode 9
For the penultimate episode of Season 2 of Krypton, and it’s a big one, it’s Doomsday for the good guys in the action-packed “Blood Moon,” where a moon-sized loss is suffered, and a main character has a brilliant death – leaving the resistance broken, and hopeless.
It is only fitting to begin with the surprising death of Kem. Rasmus Hardiker has been excellent as Kem since Season 1. He is a smart ass from the streets, but there has always been a vulnerability and sadness to the character. This season’s journey has been satisfying as we’ve seen him become a soldier, then a leader, and ultimately a selfless warrior who sacrifices himself for his friend, and the cause.

Krypton Season 2 Episode 4
“Danger Close” is an appropriate title for this week’s Krypton because it feels like the penultimate episode of the season considering all the threads coming together – and yet it’s not even the halfway point.
Seg and Lyta reunite, have sex and share a touching moment, before Lyta sells him out to Zod. Except is it really Lyta since Seg finds out she’s been re-programmed by her son? And the same almost happens to Seg, except Brainiac is still in Seg’s head. Meanwhile, after having a sentimental bro-down with Seg, Adam is hanging out with Kem – who freed Dev, when he refused to kill civilians (on Lyta’s orders). Dev’s story reveals to Jayna that her daughter is a monster now,...

The story of Mary and the Witch’s Flower is based on the children’s classic, My Little Broomstick by Mary Stewart.

This clunky digimated version of Angela Sommer-Bodenburg’s stories favours zappy distraction over nuance
German author Angela Sommer-Bodenburg’s tales of a pint-size bloodsucker have already generated one half-term timekiller, a Europuddingy live-action adaptation of 2000, chiefly of note for being directed by Christiane F’s Uli Edel. Eighteen years on, there follows this similarly cross-continental digimation, attempting to monetise whatever brand awareness the books have among a new generation, and – more specifically – steal a commercial march on Adam Sandler’s third Hotel Transylvania offering.
Its generically designed, jerkily swaying characters are only the most visible sign we’re in the hands of algorithms, not artisans. The one boon it might offer accompanying adults is a certain pace. It takes under 80 minutes for undead Rudolph (voiced by Rasmus Hardiker) and mortal Tony (Amy Saville) to forge the friendship that sees off ruthless vamp hunter Rookery (Jim Carter). If you're a fan of the Superman prequel series Krypton, you'll be happy to hear that the Syfy Channel has renewed it for a second season! I'm a little behind with the series, but I've liked what I've seen from it! It may not be the best series on TV but it's certainly good and interesting enough to hold on my attention.
The show is set two generations before the destruction of Superman’s home planet, Krypton follows Seg-El (Cameron Cuffe), "the legendary Man of Steel’s grandfather — whose House of El was ostracized and shamed. With Krypton’s leadership in disarray, Seg-El encounters Earthly time-traveler Adam Strange (Shaun Sipos) who warns he’s under the clock to save his beloved world from chaos. Fighting to redeem his family’s honor and protect the ones he loves, Seg is also faced with a life and death conflict – save his home...

We've got a new promo spot here for you to watch for SyFy's upcoming DC series Krypton, which I'm actually pretty excited about seeing. I love the concept of the show because it explores a part of the superman lore that has never really been explored before. Just last week we were treated to a new promo spot for DC's upcoming SyFy series Krypton. I'm actually kind of excited about this series because it deals with Kal-El's family history on the planet Krypton. This is an aspect of the Superman mythology that we've never really seen played with before.
Today we've learned from KryptonSite that the series will premiere in March of 2018 and they also revealed a new synopsis that has been released, and what's interesting about it is that it hints at a time travel plot device:
"Set two generations before the destruction of Superman’s home planet, Krypton follows Seg-El (Cameron Cuffe), the legendary Man of Steel’s grandfather — whose House of El was ostracized and shamed. With Krypton’s leadership in disarray, Seg-El encounters Earthly time-traveler Adam Strange (Shaun Sipos) who warns he’s under the clock to save his beloved world from chaos.

It’s been a long time coming, but Syfy has finally narrowed Krypton‘s premiere window to March of 2018.
At least, that’s according to a report unearthed by KryptonSite (with a tip of the hat to ComicBook.com). Sadly, there’s no mention of a concrete premiere date just yet, but we do have a new and indeed extended synopsis for you to peruse, which tees up a superheroic family drama anchored by Cameron Cuffe as Seg-El, Kal-El’s grandfather.
If you’ve been keeping tracking of Krypton‘s prolonged development cycle, you’ll know that the freshman drama has been angled as a prequel series, one that will seemingly “branch time and space.” There’s also a new interpretation of Brainiac to look forward to, considering Blake Ritson has been cast as the “parasitic, hyper-advanced alien android of immense intelligence.”
Furthermore, there’s going to be an element...

Syfy’s upcoming prequel series Krypton is set to explore the political and social troubles of Superman’s home planet two generations before it was destroyed, with the show following Cameron Cuffe as Seg-El, Kal-El’s grandfather. It’s going to make the most out of having the cosmic side of the DC universe at its disposal, too, as it’s bringing in a few familiar faces. Previously, Shaun Sipos was cast as space-based hero Adam Strange, while another interesting character we were told to expect was Brainiac, a major foe of the Man of Steel’s in the comics.

As Comic-Con kicked off in earnest on Thursday, Syfy traveled across the galaxy to land on Superman’s home planet.
In the “Krypton” sneak peek teaser below, the action takes place two generations before the Man of Steel was born and the titular planet was destroyed. Seyg-El (Cameron Cuffe) is his grandfather, seen here as a young man who looks to be in his 20s.

Although Superman, born Kal-El, is a hero to us mere humans, his family didn’t enjoy that kind of appreciation. The House of El was ostracized and shamed, and it was up to Seyg-El to fight to redeem his family’s honor and save his world.
That isn’t the only house name we may recognize. Among the cast are also Georgina Campbell (“Broadchurch”) and Ann Ogbomo, who play Lyta Zod and Alura Zod, respectively.

When you take a moment to combine the current roster of Marvel and DC-related TV shows – both on air and in the pipeline – you’ll no doubt uncover a treasure trove of costumed crusaders. On the one hand, Marvel has made serious headway through its collaboration with Netflix, resulting in four standalone series in the form of Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Iron Fist and Mike Colter’s Hero for Hire, Luke Cage. With four solo shows now under their belt though, all eyes are beginning to turn toward The Defenders ahead of its bow in August.
DC, meanwhile, has found great success within the Arrowverse – an umbrella that encompasses The Flash, Arrow, Supergirl, Vixen and Legends of Tomorrow. But there’s another show looming on the horizon, and its name is Krypton. Set to debut on Syfy at some point next year, we’d seen a leaked trailer and a brief...

Exclusive: The Superman prequel series will be filmed at the new studio facility in Belfast.
In what looks like a major coup for the Northern Ireland film and TV industry, The Man of Steel is coming to Belfast.
It has been confirmed this week that Krypton, the Superman prequel series, will be the very first production to shoot at the brand new Belfast Harbour Studios (below).
The series, made by Phantom Four in association with Warner Horizon Scripted Television for the Syfy channel, will start pre-production in Belfast this month with a shoot date of late summer.
Set two generations before the destruction of the superhero’s home planet, Krypton follows Superman’s grandfather (Cameron Cuffe), whose House of El was ostracized and shamed, as he fights to redeem his family’s honour and save his beloved world from chaos.

Mike Colter’s Hero for Hire won’t be the only hero pummeling his way onto the small screen next year, as Syfy has officially slated Krypton for a premiere in 2018.
The long-brewing Superman prequel series, one hatched under David S. Goyer (Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice) and series showrunner Damian Kindler (Sleepy Hollow), has slowly flickered into life over the past two-to-three months, rolling out one promo after another, all the while beefing up its cast to include the likes of Georgina Campbell (Lyta Zod), Ian McElhinney (Val-El), Elliot Cowan (Daron-Vex), Ann Ogbomo (Alura Zod), Rasmus Hardiker (Kem), Wallis Day (Nyssa-Vex) and Aaron Pierre, who signed on to play the part of Dev-Em. Krypton has now been ordered to series, too, which stands as an exciting vote of confidence on Syfy’s part.
Amid that hullabaloo, there have been rumblings that Syfy would hold fire on its prequel series until 2018, and sure enough,...

Syfy is getting into the lucrative comic book television game with Krypton, a prequel to the Superman mythology which explores the life of the Man of Steel’s grandfather on the infamously doomed planet. We still don’t know too much about the project – a recent leaked trailer popped up online for a few days before disappearing – but our interest is already piqued.
With the news that the network has requested a full season of the show on the back of the pilot, ComicBook.com spoke to Chris McCumber, President of Entertainment Networks for NBCUniversal Cable Entertainment, about the new series. McCumber remained tight-lipped, as expected, but he did reveal that the show would “definitely contain other DC comics characters in the Krypton world” and that Syfy has had “had plenty of talks with Warner Bros.” about the use of these characters.
DC fans, start your theorizing. Given the time...

Syfy is giving itself an extreme makeover. And as part of the network’s reboot, it has ordered to series the long-awaited Superman prequel “Krypton” to series, as well as an adaptation of the quirky graphic novel “Happy!”
The network is also developing an adaptation of the George R.R. Martin novella “Nightflyers,” and, as previously announced, has partnered with Blumhouse Television to develop a new TV chapter of the feature franchise “The Purge” (which will also air on USA Network).
To emphasize the changes, the network unveiled a new logo and look across its platforms. The name hasn’t changed (although that was discussed — including a return to the original Sci-Fi moniker), but now it’s in all-caps: Syfy.
