Brian Wilson has joined forces with the late Glen Campbell for a posthumous duet of Campbell’s song, “Strong.”
“Strong (with Brian Wilson)” is the latest entry in the upcoming duet collection Glen Campbell Duets — Ghost on the Canvas Sessions, which is out everywhere on April 19th. Originally appearing on Campbell’s 2011 “farewell” album Ghost on the Canvas, “Strong” is a warm, string-laden track that describes Campbell’s onset of Alzheimer’s Disease.
Campbell vows to his wife to maintain his resilience in the face of the disease, confessing, “All I want to be for you is strong.” All the while, signature harmonies from Wilson add a dreamy, hopeful feel, and Wilson shares Campbell’s verses with conviction and clarity. Listen to the song below.

A posthumous duet between Hope Sandoval and Glen Campbell that reimagines his song “The Long Walk Home” has been released as the latest preview of the upcoming album Glen Campbell Duets – Ghost on the Canvas Sessions. Stream it below.
On the new version of “The Long Walk Home,” the Mazzy Star singer’s airy vocals pair seamlessly with Campbell’s, bringing extra melancholy to the song — which was written about the late country singer’s battle with Alzheimer’s. “I know I’ll never be the same again/ I hope I’ll still remember you,” they sing together. “Above it all I know our love will transcend/ On my long walk home.”
In a press statement, producer and co-writer Julian Raymond revealed how Sandoval inspired Campbell’s music: “Glen and I listened to a couple of different Mazzy Star songs while we were preparing to record the Meet Glen Campbell...

As the tenth anniversary of Glen Campbell’s Ghost on the Canvas was approaching, Dave Kaplan —whose Surfdog Records released the haunting album in 2011 — was pondering ways to honor it. A late-period landmark for Campbell, who died in 2017 after a lengthy battle with Alzheimer’s disease, Ghost on the Canvas found the venerable pop-country singer and guitarist covering songs by a new generation of writers — alt-rock types like Paul Westerberg, Guided By Voices’ Robert Pollard, Jakob Dylan, and Teddy Thompson. The album ranked Number 88 on Rolling Stone‘s list of...

Miley Cyrus delivered a rousing rendition of Mazzy Star’s classic “Fade Into You” as part of the singer’s Tiny Desk (Home) Concert.
Performing from inside a miniaturized bedroom, Cyrus performed a faithful version of the 1993 hit, albeit with one major difference: Rather than mimicking Hope Sandoval’s trademark sedate vocals, Cyrus brought a full-throated approach to the track’s chorus.

The more emotion-driven a TV series or movie, the more important the soundtrack. And boy is Normal People, the Hulu adaptation of Sally Rooney’s wildly popular novel of the same name, driven by the emotion of its characters and world.
Normal People follows Marianne and Connell’s complicated relationship as they move from being teenagers at a small town in western Ireland into young adulthood at Dublin’s Trinity College, and showrunner Ed Guiney, directors Lenny Abrahamson and Hettie Macdonald, music supervisors Juliet Martin and Maggie Phillips, and editor Nathan Nugent have done an impressive job crafting the music landscape for this world.
“We were trying all sorts of tracks ourselves,” said Abrahamson, who mentioned Martin, Phillips, Nugent, and himself as the chief collaborators in the process. “So, as well as the work that Stephen Rennicks, the composer, was doing, it was just, again, a very organic kind of collaboration.

David Roback, co-founder of the widely celebrated alt-rock group Mazzy Star, died Monday, a representative for the band confirmed. A cause of death was not revealed. Roback was 61.
Roback founded Mazzy Star with Hope Sandoval in the late Eighties and served as the band’s guitarist, keyboardist and producer. Between 1990 and 1996, Mazzy Star released three critically acclaimed albums that blended dream pop, psychedelia and touches of blues and folk with some of the blown-out textures of Nineties alt-rock: She Hangs Brightly in 1990, So Tonight That I Might See in 1993 and...

Amidst the chorus of people saying that TV is better than it’s ever been, you’ll always find one person lamenting the decline of the theme song. While it’s true that the days of minutes-long intros with original songs and catchy melodies might be in the past, there’s no denying that shows are still finding memorable (and in a few cases, iconic) ways to open each episode.

Take a breath that's true: Beloved alternative group Mazzy Star is back with a new album, the band's first since "Among My Swan" in 1996.
Called "Seasons Of Your Day," the new Mazzy Star record will be out on Sept. 24. To celebrate the announcement, Mazzy Star released a new song. The soulful track, "California," can be found above. (Spin compared the song to Led Zeppelin's "Going to California," which sounds just about right.)
Mazzy Star (made up of David Roback and Hope Sandoval) shot to fame in 1994 with the song "Fade Into You." The track peaked at 44 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart and hit the top five on the magazine's Modern Rock chart.
Talk of a new Mazzy Star record has circulated since 2009. Sandoval, the lead singer, teased the new material in an interview that year with Rolling Stone, but cautioned that it wasn't a done deal. "It's true we're still together.

Last year at the U.S. edition of All Tomorrow's Parties, Hope Sandoval sent me straight off to Dreamland, in many good ways. The light-dappled eddies of her butter-smooth voice shot me straight back to 1994, to Mazzy Star's "Fade Into You," just a couple years before the Cowboy Junkies charmed the world with the same sound on their cover of the Velvets' "Sweet Jane." It was a cool period where ladies sounded like women, somewhat of a predecessor to artists like Neko Case, Beach House and Liz Phair, at least to these ears. Mazzy Star -- the winning combination of Sandoval...

Paramore shouldn't feel too bad that they were just barely beat out for a #1 debut by one of pop's all-time classic divas while beating out a mega-selling modern one — and notching their best first week ever in the process.
Though the band's third album, Brand New Eyes, will bow at #2 on the Billboard 200 albums chart next week, after selling 175,000 copies, they can rest easy knowing that they were just a nose behind legend Barbra Streisand, whose album of jazz standards, Love Is the Answer, snagged the top spot with sales of 180,000. The feat, Babs' ninth #1 album, gives her at least one top debut in each of the past five decades.

It felt destined to be an uneventful, summer rain-drenched night this past Friday evening in the trendy Village section of Manhattan. But a few strokes before midnight, DJ Herbert Holler strongly advised the staff at Le Poisson Rouge to wrap up sound check, as a throng of Amanda Blank fans were waiting.
“People are outside getting wet, man” he gently prodded.
While the petite Mc wrapped up interviews backstage, DJ Herbert quickly warmed up the crowd with his blend of ’80s top 40, hip-hop, house, rock, Motown and soca rhythms. The turnout was notably eclectic: A middle-aged man in a black suit gyrated on a small stage without much notice, while a preppy couple in Converse pogo’d nearby. Across the club, a group of ladies in almost identical jean skirts and flip flops mouthed lyrics to Naughty by Nature.
