Danny A. Abeckaser is directing and starring in a new World War II drama, “Bardejov” from a screenplay by Shmuel Lynn. It has already been picked up by Gravitas Ventures for North American distribution next spring.
Also starring Robert Davi, Kyle Stefanski, Dean Miroshnikov, Darren Weiss and Omer Hazan, the film tells the story of the Jews of Bardejov in Slovakia, who were almost completely wiped out during the Holocaust.
Among them was Holocaust survivor Emil A. Fish, who was 9 years old when a Gestapo officer found him and his family hiding and sent them to a concentration camp to suffer the same fate as their many friends and relatives. Fish survived but to this day no Jews live in Bardejov.
Fish, who is the founder of the Bardejov Jewish Preservation Committee, also makes a cameo in the film and is a producer on the project.

Emile Hirsch plays a violent cop who finds his way into the mafia in a film whose devotion to Martin Scorsese’s classic runs through every frame
This 70s-set based-on-a-truish-story crime drama about an undercover cop embedded with mobsters was originally released in the US as The Gemini Lounge; for some reason it’s been retitled Inside Man for the UK, but on no account should it be confused with either the excellent Spike Lee-directed heist movie from 2006 or the recent Netflix show starring David Tennant. And while it merely borrows the title of better made movies, there’s something almost superfan-stalkerish about this film’s relationship to Martin Scorsese’s GoodFellas. It’s not a remake in any way and revolves around totally different characters and a different plot, but it somehow does a cheap karaoke version of GoodFellas’ rhythms, phrasing, look and general vibe.

The 2023 movie The Engineer is directed by Israeli-born filmmaker Danny A. Abeckaser, and one would think that being born in the conflict zone, he would make an authentic movie about the Israel-Palestinian conflict. Well, nobody expects somebody to be purely objective about the situation; some biases are sure to creep in, but that’s not the problem with The Engineer. It’s the insipidity of the whole film that is bothersome.
Abeckaser seems to be making a somber spy procedural, yet he is afraid that the movie will not fit genre conventions. So, The Engineer feels stuck in limbo, with the background score screeching all the way to make sure you are watching an exciting edge-of-the-seat thriller. No, we aren’t, by the way! The story is so potent that just listening to it makes one’s hair stand on the back of the neck, but the execution is dull,...

Though raised in Brooklyn, actor turned producer/director Danny A. Abeckaser was born in Israel. Unfortunately, that birthright isn’t enough to lend authenticity to “The Engineer,” which feels very much like an American B-movie stab at turning Israeli anti-terrorist operations of 30 years ago into formulaic action fodder — without much action, even. A miscast Emile Hirsch plays a Shin Bet agent tasked with hunting down the mastermind behind a series of suicide bombings. Arriving at yet another low ebb in Israeli international relations over Palestinian issues, this frequently unconvincing and clunky would-be thriller will have a hard time stirring much enthusiasm in most territories. Lionsgate is releasing to limited U.S. theaters and home formats on August 18.
It begins, with a burst of explanatory onscreen text, in the fall of 1993, as Israeli Prime Minister Rabin and Plo leader Yasser Arafat were in Washington D.C. attempting to broker peace under the auspices of President Clinton.

"This is all I fight, brother." Lionsgate has revealed the official trailer for an action thriller film titled The Engineer, the latest from director Danny A. Abeckaser. This is yet another collab between Abeckaser and his writer Kosta Kondilopoulos - they also made I Love Us and this year's Inside Man previously. The film is a pulse-pounding action-thriller based on true events. It follows the biggest manhunt in the history of Israel to find Yahya Ayyash, the mastermind bombmaker who oversaw a group of suicide troops in Israel in the middle of the 1990s. Emile Hirsch stars as ex-Mossad agent Etan who leads an elite, covert team of agents and mercenaries to find the man responsible — the elusive "Engineer." The cast includes Tzahi Halevi, Angel Bonanni, Adam Haloon, Omer Hazan, and Yarden Toussia-Cohen. This looks terrible, even the performances. It just seems like more jingoistic cinema and Israeli propaganda. Can't recommend this.

Emile Hirsch stars as a disgraced police detective, Bobby Belucci, who goes in undercover after a violent reaction to his wife's infidelity gets him in trouble. It’s almost impossible to escape once you get involved with the mob, and if I were Emile Hirsch‘s Bobby Belluci, I’d start learning how to swim with the fishes. Vertical Entertainment proudly presents an Inside Man trailer depicting a bloody tale of deception, dangerous liaisons, and a disturbing body count. Based on actual events, Inside Man tells the story of Bobby Belluci, a disgraced police detective seeking redemption by going undercover to expose a violent crime syndicate. However, as Bobby sinks deeper into the mob, the price for absolution may be higher than he can afford.

“Who doesn’t love spaghetti?” asks New York State Trooper Ed Croswell (David Arquette) while on a date with single mother Natalie (Jennifer Esposito) in “Mob Town,” and the answer, according to Danny A. Abeckaser’s film, is no one. The traditional Italian dish figures prominently in this low-rent Mafia tale, which — based on an infamous gathering of top organized-crime bigwigs in remote upstate Apalachin, N.Y. — has been concocted with nothing but stale, clichéd ingredients. Clumsy in every respect, it’s .
Via introductory text cards and newspaper headlines, Abeckaser’s film lays out its premise: on Nov. 14, 1957, approximately 100 members of the Mafia, from all corners of the country, gathered at the Apalachin estate of Joe Barbara (Abeckaser) under the orders of Vito Genovese (Robert Davi), who wanted to establish himself as the Luciano crime family’s boss of bosses (“capo dei capi”) in the wake of taking out rivals Frank Costello and Albert Anastasia.

The upcoming indie gangster film Mob Town tells a historic story. The Sopranos' Jamie-Lynn Sigler brings tradition.
The gangster genre will live on even after Martin Scorsese's The Irishman appeared to close the books on membership. Directed by Danny A. Abeckaser from a script by Jon Carlo and Joe Gilford, Mob Town dramatizes the infamous American Mafia summit of the late '50s. The film stars David Arquette (Scream), Jennifer Esposito, and Pj Byrne (The Wolf of Wall Street). But it is held together by Jamie-Lynn Sigler, who played Meadow, the daughter of New Jersey crime family boss Tony Soprano, played by the late James Gandolfini on The Sopranos.
Sigler is a Mafia princess. Her first film credit was in the 1998 indie gangster film A Brooklyn State of Mind, and she came into people's living rooms every Sunday night on the series which changed crime family programming forever.

We’ve got a trailer for you to check out today for Mob Town, the true story about the meet up between the heads of the mafia that took place in 1957 in upstate New York. The film stars David Arquette, Jennifer Esposito, Jamie-Lynn Sigler, Pj Byrne, and Danny A. Abeckaser (The Irishman) who directed the film as well.
Here’s a brief synopsis:
The FBI and a local cop track various members of organized crime families as they gather for a huge meeting in upstate New York in 1957.
The basis for the story sounds intriguing, but something about the execution of this movie falls a little flat. I watched the trailer twice, thinking I had missed something, but I didn’t. I like the cast, and feel like they had a lot to work with, so I don’t know what the problem is, but maybe it will translate better in the full film.

Maybe you've heard about the mob movie that's inspired by true events? Maybe you know that it draws inspiration from a book that details an unprecedented meeting of reputed Mafia leaders in upstate New York in 1957? Well, this isn't Martin Scorsese's ambitious, sprawling The Irishman, opening later this week for a limited run in theaters. Instead, this is Mob Town, directed by Danny A. Abeckaser, which focuses entirely on the fateful meeting of crime-family leaders in the late 1950s. The real events, covered in the book I Heard You Paint Houses -- which inspired The Irishman -- have also been covered in other books. In this version, the great Robert Davi plays crime boss Vito Genovese, who calls the meeting. The star of the...

"There is a network for organized crime running in & out of this area." Saban Films has debuted an official trailer for an indie drama titled Mob Town, the latest film made by actor / director Danny A. Abeckaser. It tells the story about the famed meeting of the heads of the Mafia in 1957 in upstate Apalachin, NY, during which a local cop went after 62 mobsters. "One cop faced off against the mob and changed law enforcement forever." This stars David Arquette, Jennifer Esposito, Danny A. Abeckaser, Jamie-Lynn Sigler, and Pj Byrne. This looks like a "dramatic" Asylum rip-off of The Irishman, or any other mobster movie, with some seriously bad acting and nothing of interest to offer us besides "look, the Mafia is in town!" Ugh. Here's the first official trailer (+ poster) for Danny A. Abeckaser's Mob Town, direct from YouTube: A story about the prominent meeting of the Mafia heads in 1957 in upstate Apalachin,...

Exclusive: Scream and Never Been Kissed star David Arquette is attached as a lead in Apalachin, an indie feature being directed by Danny A. Abeckaser from a script penned by Abeckaser and Jon Carlo. Shooting began Monday ahead of a planned 2019 release.
Based on a 1957 true story, the plot follows local trooper Ed Croswell (Arquette), who foils the plans of mobster Vito Genovese, who organized 50 of his friends and colleagues to converge upon the rural town of Apalachin in upstate New York for a summit. Croswell’s actions unknowingly exposed the mob to the American public and changed the face of law enforcement forever.
Jennifer Esposito, Robert Davi, Jamie-Lynn Sigler, Pj Byrne and Abeckaser co-star.
Abeckaser is also producing the pic via his 2B Productions as his follow-up to First We Take Brooklyn, the indie starring Harvey Keitel, Abeckaser and AnnaLynne McCord that bowed earlier this year.

Hollywood loves a second act. Take Danny A. Abeckaser, the New York City nightlife fixture who hung up his velvet rope to live as a working actor. For over 15 years, Abeckaser catered to movie stars, models, athletes and musicians as he climbed the ranks from promoter to owner at venues like Avenue and the still-raging Marquee. But his day (or late-night) job cloaked a desire to pursue acting. “I was doing so well in nightlife but I wasn’t really happy,” Abeckaser told TheWrap. “I would tell anyone who would listen, ‘I don’t really drink that much. I don’t do drugs,...

Bruce Willis isn’t exactly on much of a roll lately. A run of slightly dodgy action roles and a surprise exit from Woody Allen’s latest, apparently for schedule reasons, have seemed to dominate his recent career. He’s sticking with action thrillers, though, signing on to star in Marauders alongside Dave Bautista and Christopher Meloni. Steven C. Miller, who just worked with Willis on Extraction, is attached to direct the film, which will also feature Lydia Hull, Tyler Olson, Christopher Rob Bowen and Danny A. Abeckaser in its cast. Michael Cody and Chris Sivertson wrote the script, which follows an FBI agent on the trail of a group of bank robbers who appear to be modern-day Robin Hoods, handing off their hauls to charity. As he digs deeper into the gang, he discovers that their actions are all tied to a trail of secrets leading to the powerful...
