Exclusive: Multi-faceted UK outfit Altitude, which is on the Croisette this year with Asif Kapadia’s anticipated documentary Diego Maradona, is in development on a movie about the lives and careers of dance siblings Fred and Adele Astaire, and World War II thriller The Zero Hour about one man’s personal quest to track down Nazi Rudolf Hoss.
Altitude spans international sales, UK distribution and production. The latest prospect in development for the company is a portrait of iconic American dancer Fred Astaire and his sister Adele. Partnering with producers Ben Holden (The Woman In Black 2) of Lightbulb Pictures and Josh Hyams (The Trip To Spain), Altitude have set writers Glenn Patterson and Colin Carberry (Good Vibrations) to write The Astaires, the true story of how the twenty-something siblings overcame huge challenges to become the world’s most famous dancers during their time in London and New York.

Exclusive: In a development that bodes well for the coming avalanche of acquisition titles that starts tomorrow at the Toronto Film Festival, Relativity has closed a seven-figure deal for U.S. distribution rights to The Woman In Black 2. That is the sequel to the hit 2012 haunted house film that starred Daniel Radcliffe and was distributed in the U.S. by CBS Films. The sequel rights were controlled by Hammer and eOne, and the deal was brokered by CAA. The original grossed $54 million domestically and $128 million worldwide.
While buyers tell me they don’t see an obvious gotta-have-it title at Toronto like last year’s Can A Song Save Your Life, there is certainly an appetite for films that has been evident in festivals this year from Sundance to Berlin and Cannes. The Woman In Black 2 deal closed today, hours before Warner Bros opens the festival with the Robert Downey Jr-starrer The Judge.

This weekend's horror offering, Hammer's The Quiet Ones (review), is supposedly based upon true events. So we figured we'd look around and come up with the actual video of said events. Curious? Take a look!
The film draws inspiration from the Philip Experiment of 1972, in which Canadian academic researchers tried to prove that telekinesis, poltergeists, and the like manifest solely through the human mind.
A quick trip to YouTube yielded some fruits for us paranormal-loving souls. The video you see below contains actual footage from the aforementioned experiment, and honestly? It's pretty damned interesting. Check it out, and tell us what you make of it!
The Quiet Ones is written and directed by John Pogue (Quarantine 2) and stars Jared Harris ("Mad Men," The Ward), Sam Claflin (Snow White and the Huntsman, The Hunger Games: Catching Fire), Erin Richards ("Breaking In," "Being Human"), Olivia Cooke ("The Secret of Crickley Hall," "The...

Last week we learned that Hammer Films is prepping a modern day take on their 1957 film The Abominable Snowman, which they described in a press release as a modern twist on the original film.
So is it a remake? A reimagining? A reboot?! I turn the tables over to Hammer for more of an explanation!
Hammer's CEO Simon Oakes and producer Ben Holden opened up about the film with Empire, revealing details about what we can expect from it. "We're not remaking the Val Guest film," says Holden. "We're starting again from scratch, but the conversation began because that creature or that myth is part of the Hammer library or lexicon, and we wanted to develop something around it."
"Our version of The Abominable Snowman will have something of the uncanny about it," continues Oakes, "and it'll have the mythology and all the big [original writer] Nigel Kneale ideas of man and beast and nature.

You may have seen Thursday's news that the recently-revivified Hammer have been digging into their vaults again, emerging with a plan for a new version of 1957's The Abominable Snowman. Empire happened to be on other Hammer business on the day of the announcement, so we were well-placed to score some further details from Hammer CEO Simon Oakes and producer Ben Holden. "We're very excited about it," enthuses Oakes. "Inevitably somebody not understanding the history and mythology of it will see a word like 'abominable' and take the piss, but more fool them!"The new version of the Yeti story will see an illegal Himalayan expedition accidentally awakening the dangerous beasts, risking almost certain death. "We're not remaking the Val Guest film," explains Holden. "We're starting again from scratch, but the conversation began because that creature or that myth is part of the Hammer library or lexicon and we wanted to develop something around it.
