A young couple fight for their lives in the official trailer for Lionsgate’s The Strangers – Chapter 1. What was supposed to be a relaxing getaway turns into a battle with psycho killers in the prequel to 2008’s The Strangers.
The 2024 horror film stars Madelaine Petsch (Riverdale), Froy Gutierrez (Cruel Summer), Gabriel Basso (The Night Agent), and Ema Horvath (The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power). Renny Harlin directed from a screenplay by Alan R. Cohen and Alan Freedland, based on The Strangers by Bryan Bertino.
Producers include Courtney Solomon, Mark Canton, Christopher Milburn, Gary Raskin, Alastair Burlingham, and Charlie Dombek.

Nearly 16 years after Bryan Bertino's The Strangers shocked cinemas (moments from that movie still linger in my mind rent-free), it's time to "witness how the strangers became the strangers" in the trailer for The Strangers: Chapter 1 ahead of its May 17th theatrical release via Lionsgate.
Directed by Renny Harlin from a screenplay by Alan R. Cohen & Alan Freedland and a story by Bryan Bertino (and based on The Strangers written by Bryan Bertino), The Strangers: Chapter 1 stars Madelaine Petsch, Froy Guitierrez, Gabriel Basso, and Ema Horvath. The film is produced by Courtney Solomon, Mark Canton, Christopher Milburn, Gary Raskin, Alastair Burlingham, and Charlie Dombek.

What do you do when they come for you? Beloved horror franchise “The Strangers” is getting a revamp, courtesy of prequel “The Strangers: Chapter 1” starring “Riverdale” alum Madelaine Petsch. Two more sequels are due later this year, all from “Die Hard 2” and “Cliffhanger” director Renny Harlin.
In this first film, Petsch stars as a young woman who is trying to start a new life with her fiancé. Yet, during a road trip stop in a remote vacation rental in the woods, the couple become the prey of a mysterious gang of masked strangers who attack without warning or reason. Froy Gutierrez, Gabriel Basso, and Ema Horvath co-star.
Sure, it may sound like a run-of-the-mill slasher, but “The Strangers” franchise has a haunting allure, thanks to its creation by filmmaker Bryan Bertino. The director has a “story by” credit for “Chapter 1,” which is helmed by Harlin and written by Alan R. Cohen and Alan Freedland.

‘The Strangers: Chapter 1’ Trailer Looks Like a Direct Remake of the 2008 Home Invasion Horror Movie
The first installment in a brand new reboot trilogy from Lionsgate and director Renny Harlin, The Strangers: Chapter 1 will be available in theaters nationwide on May 17, 2024.
The Strangers: Chapter 1 is said to be something of a remake of the original 2008 movie, while its sequels – Chapter 2 and Chapter 3 – will blaze a new path from there.
Our hope is that the two subsequent movies will allow Renny Harlin to get crazy and inject a little more of his personal filmmaking style into the proceedings, because The Strangers: Chapter 1 indeed does look to be a pretty straight up remake of Bryan Bertino’s 2008 home invasion classic. This first trailer essentially goes through all the familiar beats, ending with a new/lesser version of the most iconic line from Bertino’s movie. “Because you were home” has been replaced with “Because you’re here,” which doesn’t quite have the same punch to it.

A producer on Eva Green’s failed film “A Patriot” has accused the project’s director Dan Pringle of being “inexperienced” and “starstruck.”
Jake Seal, who was brought in by financiers Sherborne Media Finance in an apparent bid to salvage the project after funding collapsed, was on the witness stand in London’s High Court on Tuesday to give evidence in the trial.
It was Seal, a producer and the owner of Hampshire-based production facility Black Hanger Studios, that Green called a “moron,” “pure vomit” and “the Devil” in private texts and emails that emerged during the pre-action discovery process. She also referred to his Black Hanger crew as “shitty peasants” and said Seal “needs to get fired.”
During cross-examination by Green’s lawyer, Edmund Cullen Kc, on Tuesday afternoon, Seal told the court of the project: “This is effectively a first-time director, very inexperienced, who has never worked with a studio before.

Part of the reason why "The Strangers" has endured as an effective horror movie is that we've all had that feeling of being home alone at night, yet it still feels like there's something else watching us from the shadows. After 85 minutes of homebound terror, the words "because you were home" make all of the preceding violence sound so hauntingly meaningless. A couple on the rocks is thrust into a harrowing night of survival for no other reason besides that their lights were on.
It wasn't until a decade later that a sequel came to theaters with "The Strangers: Prey at Night," which /Film's Chris Evangelista called a "schlocky slasher showcase." Rather than rehashing the hopelessness of Bryan Bertino's 2008 home invasion thriller, the follow-up from Johannes Roberts saw the human prey actually landing a few blows in against their stalkers, and living to see another day. I truly believe...

The franchise reboot Jeepers Creepers: Reborn was given a three-day theatrical release back in September and a VOD release earlier this month (you can watch it on Amazon at This Link). Next up is a physical media release, with the movie set to reach Blu-ray and DVD on November 15th. Seems to me three weeks earlier would have been a better release date, so people could watch it in time for Halloween. But that’s what the VOD version is for, I suppose. Copies of the discs can be pre-ordered Here.
Jeepers Creepers: Reborn was directed by Timo Vuorensola from a screenplay by Sean Michael Argo and Jake Seal. It has the following synopsis:
Chase and Laine head to the HorrorHound festival where Laine begins to experience unexplained premonitions and disturbing visions associated with The Creeper and the town’s past. As the festival gets underway and the blood-soaked entertainment builds to a frenzy,...

Neill Blomkamp is back, with the “District 9” director’s first feature film since 2015’s “Chappie.” And his latest movie “Demonic” looks like a creepy head trip that will make you question your reality.
The first teaser for “Demonic” dropped on Thursday, and the film shows a woman donning elaborate head gear that sends her into an unusual alternate dimension — or perhaps some kind of virtual reality — where instead of being wholly there, she appears all pixelated and even inverted.
There’s not too many other plot details to be found here, but Blomkamp’s film is described as a horror movie in which a young woman unleashes terrifying demons and supernatural forces when a decades-old rift with her mother is revealed.
Carly Pope, Chris William Martin and Michael Rogers stars in “Demonic.” This is Blomkamp’s fourth movie, which he both wrote and directed, and IFC Midnight will release...

HBO Max has unveiled the first trailer for Doug Liman’s quarantine-shot movie “Locked Down,” starring Anne Hathaway and Chiwetel Ejiofor.
The trailer introduces Linda (Hathaway) and Paxton (Ejiofor), a London-based couple planning to break up just before the coronavirus lockdown. Forced to quarantine for two weeks, they have no choice but to navigate their relationship, as they search for a light at the end of the tunnel.
While figuring out their living situation, the couple also faces challenges in their professional lives. “I’ve been furloughed. Now there’s literally zero purpose to my life,” Ejiofor says in the trailer.
Hathaway, on the other hand, hosts a video call during which she lays off her employees. “The nice people that I fired? They were fired because of me,” she says to Ejiofor.
The film also features Stephen Merchant, Mindy Kaling, Lucy Boynton, Dulé Hill, Jazmyn Simon, Ben Stiller and Ben Kingsley,...

“Lockdown,” a heist film starring Anne Hathaway and Ben Stiller and directed by Doug Liman, has been acquired by Warner Bros. and the hope is the film will premiere on HBO Max as a Max Original in early 2021, an individual with knowledge of the deal told TheWrap.
“Lockdown” also stars Stephan Merchant, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Lucy Boynton, Ben Kingsley, Mindy Kaling and Dule Hill. It’s a heist film and also a romantic comedy that’s written by Steven Knight and directed by Liman, and the film is actually set against the backdrops of the Covid-19 lockdowns.
The story is about a bickering couple (Hathaway and Ejiofor) that agrees to set their differences aside and attempt a high-risk, high-stakes jewelry heist at the world’s most exclusive department store, Harrods. The film was shot on location in London and at Harrods earlier this fall.

Exclusive: The Doug Liman-directed heist movie/romantic comedy Lockdown has been acquired in a major worldwide rights deal by Warner Bros Pictures. The intention is to have the picture premiere early 2021 as a Max Original. It’s more evidence of the streamer building up its arsenal of original programming as it adds subscribers, coming after the decision to premiere Wonder Woman 1984 on the HBO Max streaming site in the U.S. on Christmas Day.
Lockdown has a strong ensemble cast led by Anne Hathaway, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Ben Stiller, Stephen Merchant, Lucy Boynton, Ben Kingsley, Mindy Kaling and Dule Hill. Steven Knight wrote the script.
Fully financed by Stuart Ford’s AGC Studios, the film became a hot title at the virtual Toronto Film Festival Market in September,
CAA Media Finance arranged the financing and brokered the deal.
Storyteller Productions hatched the project and P.J. van Sandwijk, Alison Winter and Michael Lesslie produced.
