A good a fork in the tale is an art form. It’s that ah-ha moment in which those breadcrumbs finally form a concrete trail and the evidence makes sense. It’s a shock grounded in the realms of plausibility and it’s even better when you didn’t see it coming.
How can we forget the famous twists of cinema, like Kevin Spacey’s reveal in The Usual Suspects, or the moment we realize Teddy Andrews isn’t investigating a case of disappearance on Shutter Island, but is in fact embroiled in something much deeper? Or how about Agatha Christie’s classic plot twist in her famous novel, And Then There Were None? A good twist changes the prism through which the work is viewed and the good news is that video games have their own surprises in store for us.

The latest release from Raphael Colantonio and Arkane Studios (Dishonored, Dishonored 2) will draw comparisons with Bioshock and System Shock, but the game Prey reminds me of most is Alien: Isolation. Both titles rely on a haunted house setting in space, carving out an atmosphere that’s thick with dread and like Isolation before it, Prey evokes a strong sense of place long after it’s over, with a number of dizzying high points along the way. But more than anything, it shares Isolation’s appetite for mixing high drama with sheer frustration, replete with blink-and-you-miss-it game over screens and an assortment of balancing issues that leave you sour.

Dishonored is easily one of the best current-gen games. Admittedly, I got into it pretty late but it’s right up there with the very best that this generation of consoles had to offer. Of course, it’s no surprise that Bethesda and Arkane Studios wants to keep the momentum going on this one and in a recent interview with Rock, Paper, Shotgun, Co-creative director Raphael Colantonio said that the team is hoping to do more “of this kind of game.”
Though we don’t have any concrete details on what Arkane Studios is working on next, Colantonio says that it’s “definitely going to be a similar type of game.”
Check out his full quote below:
“Choices, multiple objectives, branching paths, and things like that. Those are our core values and they will stay that way. It’s all about interactivity and choices, consequences to your choices, many ways to do things,...

Eidos Montreal's 2014 release of "Thief" has the misfortune (arguably) to arrive after the well-received "Dishonored," a game whose look and feel was inspired by the Eidos franchise and is fresher in gamers' minds. And look, conceptually, I've admired the stealth game more than I've actually wanted to play it. Give me a game like Ubisoft's first few "Splinter Cell" games, and I'll politely acknowledge the intricacies of the level design which are driven by deliberate, cautious encounters (or non-encounters) with trigger-happy, heavily-scripted enemies. Looking at something like "Tenchu" it was about limited input for an over-matched player character in tightly-controlled game worlds of trial-and-error survival and typically, I've hated every minute of them.
But 2012 saw the release of four titles that took the lessons of their predecessors and evolved the genre in smart ways. Consider the exquisite art and sound design of Klei's "Mark of the Ninja" which made its world one of the deliberate,...

A new trailer for Dishonored has been released, a trailer that was previously only available behind closed doors at this years E3.
In these videos, Co-Creative Directors Raphael Colantonio and Harvey Smith guide you through two different playthroughs of ‘The Golden Cat’. The first video shows a stealthier approach to eliminating The Pendleton Brothers, two corrupt aristocrats. The second video depicts the more direct, action-oriented style of play to assassinate the targets. In addition to ‘The Golden Cat’, the second video illustrates a fight with the Tallboys who are patrolling the streets in ‘The Flooded District’.
It’s looking more and more tasty every time I see this game.

What we have so far seen of Dishonored has suggested a certain vastness to Arkane Studios’ vision of Victorian London. With multiple ways to achieve your objectives and the freedom to explore and experiment, many may be surprised that the estimated minimum time has been revealed to be only 12 hours.
During a Dishonored Q&A on Bethesda’s official blog, Co-creative directors Harvey Smith and Raphael Colantonio said:
“Play-style matters a lot. Very direct players will probably get through the game in 12 or 14 hours. Explorers who eavesdrop a lot will take twice as long.”
In response to other questions, it was also revealed that: Mana will regenerate only in small amounts, meaning that after using major spells players will require the use of “Piero’s Spiritual Remedy” in order to refill it – and that there are six major active powers, four enhancements (passive powers) and 40 supernatural perk garnering bone charms...
