When Netflix released its first-ever Engagement Report — a revealing look into what (and how much) people are watching within the streamer’s film and TV catalog — live-action adult and young adult series like Ginny and Georgia, The Night Agent and Fubar were among those that topped nearly a billion hours watched.
But between January and June 2023, seasons of animated originals Sonic Prime, Gabby’s Dollhouse, Barbie Life in the Dreamhouse, My Dad the Bounty Hunter and The Creature Cases also ranked among the 500 most-viewed series (out of 18,000), as did acquisitions like Paw Patrol, CoComelon, Pj Masks and Peppa Pig.
And while much of the streamer’s most popular animated content came from its kids and family programming, the report reveals new and previously released seasons of adult animation and anime entries like Castlevania, Love, Death & Robots, Bee and Puppycat, Disenchantment, Big Mouth, and Skull Island were among the top 22 percent of watched titles.

Spoiler Alert: This story discusses several major plot developments throughout the animated series “Scott Pilgrim Takes Off,” currently streaming on Netflix.
On a bright day in late October, the creators of the new Netflix anime series “Scott Pilgrim Takes Off,” Bryan Lee O’Malley and BenDavid Grabinski, sit inside a Los Angeles arcade bar, trying to look relaxed.
“This is going to be a relief,” Grabinski says. But he doesn’t look quite convinced.
On its face, their show is the second adaptation of O’Malley’s beloved “Scott Pilgrim” graphic novel series, about the titular 20-something Canadian, his new American girlfriend, Ramona, and his quest to defeat her seven evil exes to stay with her. The first adaptation, of course, is director Edgar Wright’s 2010 cult movie “Scott Pilgrim vs. the World.” But even though the entire cast of that film — including Chris Evans, Brie Larson, Jason Schwartzman and Aubrey Plaza — returned to voice their characters,...

When filmmakers suffer disappointments at the box office, they often take comfort in other theatrical flops that still stood the test of time, such as Blade Runner and The Shawshank Redemption. Edgar Wright’s Scott Pilgrim vs. the World now has the surprisingly good fortune of being one of those examples. In the summer of 2010, despite significant buzz and rapturous responses from sneak previews at San Diego Comic-Con, the inventive and engaging action-comedy based on Bryan Lee O’Malley’s graphic novels opened to just $10.6 million en route to a disheartening $49.2 million.
But even before the end of that calendar year, Wright could sense that a cult audience had already developed through specialty screenings and the rare DVD press tour for a box office failure. He then felt that word of mouth grow even more over the years, and it soon proved itself in tangible form, as merchandise and additional home releases kept getting made.

It’s a battle of the exes like you’ve never seen before in the first full look at Scott Pilgrim Takes Off, the new anime series from Netflix.
The two-minute teaser for the show, created for television by executive producers and co-showrunners Bryan Lee O’Malley and BenDavid Grabinski, debuted during New York Comic Con on Saturday. As part of the hour-long panel, O’Malley and Grabinski not only presented the trailer and teased the series, but confirmed that Julian Cihi will voice the Katayanagi Twins (Kyle and Ken).
The trailer takes fans back to Toronto “not too long ago” as Scott asks out Ramona Flowers, the “girl of my dreams.” But in order to date her, Scott must defeat her “seven evil exes.” Electric battles and even more electric guitar riffs set up a new chapter in the Scott Pilgrim saga, which sees the return of the live-action cast as their respective characters.

“Wicked Part Two” has been moved up a month, with the second and final chapter of Jon. M Chu’s stage adaptation opening not over Christmas Day 2025 but instead Thanksgiving weekend 2025. Starring Cynthia Erivo as Elphaba and Ariana Grande as Glinda, Universal’s musical fantasy will drop on November 26, 2025. Why the date change? Well, would you want to open against “Avatar 3 if you don’t have to”?
This is the first bit of musical chairs to come after the Walt Disney Company announced a slew of new dates last week, including moving “Avatar 3” back a year to December 2025, moving the next two “Avengers” films each back a year to May 2026 and 2027 and slotting two “Star Wars” films for May 2026 and December 2026. Most of the dates were far enough into the future to not have named-and-dated titles impacted.

Universal Pictures looks to be pretty excited about its upcoming adaptation of the global Broadway hit Wicked as the studio is moving up Wicked Part Two to November 26, 2025. The film was originally set to bow on Christmas 2025, with Wicked Part One opening worldwide on November 27, 2024.
Jon M. Chu is directing both films with Cynthia Erivo set to play Elphaba and Ariana Grande on board to play Glinda.
The original musical tells the untold story of the witches of Oz, where the two forge an unlikely sisterhood and will empower each other in ways that neither foresees. But as dark forces of prejudice and oppression loom on the horizon, the choices they make will separate them, and will set them on different destinies that will change them, and Oz, for good.
Wicked is produced by Marc Platt and by Tony winner David Stone, with whom Platt produced the blockbuster stage musical.

In the latest trailer for “Cruella” we see how Emma Stone’s Disney villain got her “killer instinct,” one nurtured by a cutthroat fashion designer played by Emma Thompson.
Thompson is giving us some serious Miranda Priestly vibes as the Baroness von Hellman, a fashion legend who is described as “devastatingly chic and terrifyingly haute.” She spots Cruella’s flair for fashion as part of the punk rock revolution in London in the 1970s and gives her a job, only for that relationship to set off Cruella’s wicked side — including her first big crime of swiping the Baroness’ dogs.
“Let me give you some advice. You can’t care about anyone else. Everyone else is an obstacle. You care what an obstacle wants, you’re dead,” Thompson says in the trailer. “If I’d cared about anyone or thing, I might have died. You have the talent. Whether you...

Exclusive: In its first 24 hours after dropping on Feb. 17, the trailer for Disney’s edgy live-action feature Cruella about the famed 101 Dalmatians villainess drew a very notable 71M views per sources.
That’s a very exceptional number for a trailer dropping during the pandemic, even beating the 24 hour trailer viewership figures of pre-Covid theatrical releases Maleficent: Mistress of Evil (61.7M) and Will Smith-Guy Ritchie hit Aladdin (60.8M).
True, Cruella‘s traffic is a far cry from Disney’s Lion King trailer which posted an awesome first day record of 224M global views after dropping on Thanksgiving Day 2018. Mulan‘s first teaser trailer was released in early July 2019 and also grabbed 175M first day views, but again, it was a different time for movies before Coronavirus.

Ruth Wilson and Andrew Scott will star in the political drama “Oslo” for HBO that is currently in production in Prague, and the film is based on the award-winning stage play of the same name by Tony winner J.T. Rogers.
Marc Platt, Kristie Macosko Krieger, David Litvak and Steven Spielberg are executive producing the film that HBO hopes to make available on HBO Max and to air on HBO beginning next year.
“Oslo” is about the negotiations that led to the 1993 Oslo Peace Accords, and it stars the “His Dark Materials” star Wilson as a Norwegian foreign minister as well as “Fleabag” star Scott as a Norwegian sociologist and Wilson’s husband. Scott Pilgrim vs. the World director Edgar Wright hopes we may see the Sex Bob-Omb bassist back in action sooner rather than later, if plans for a new anime project take off.
In an interview with EW celebrating the film’s 10th anniversary, Wright confirms that he, Scott Pilgrim creator Bryan Lee O’Malley, and the film’s producer, Jared LeBoff, have been mulling the possibility of making a Scott Pilgrim anime for some time.
“There’s some plans — and there’s nothing official yet — but there are some plans to revisit the material in an animation way. We’ve been talking with Bryan and with Jared for a while [about]: What if we did something with the books in anime form? It’s being discussed as we speak.”

Netflix’s ‘Nappily Ever After’ Trailer: Sanaa Lathan Plays a Control Freak Who Loses Control — Watch
Fifteen years ago, “Real Women Have Curves” director Patricia Cardoso almost made “Nappily Ever After” for Universal Pictures, with Halle Berry in the lead role. An adaptation of the bestselling first installment from Trisha R. Thomas’ eight-book series eventually found a home at Netflix. Berry’s onetime part went to Film Independent Spirit Award nominee Sanaa Lathan (“Love & Basketball”), also the project’s co-producer.
As advertising executive Violet Jones — changed from Venus Johnston in the books — Lathan is a coiffure-conscious perfectionist who believes she’s engineered herself a happy ending. Yet life begins to capsize when her doctor beau presents her with a Chihuahua instead of a proposal, and she is taken off an important work account.
Late one night, convinced she has nothing left to lose — and recalling her boyfriend’s criticism of “You never let your hair down” — she shaves her head. The film’s tagline, naturally,...

The Girl on the Train is a film that might wander through a host of different theories, and films that may seem like similar theories pop up a few times a year, as direct-to-video or cable network efforts.
I hope potential audiences take into account the well-received book this is based on, and Director Tate Taylor‘s abilities when deciding on this one. Taylor, of The Help and Get On Up, should fit well in this odd ride, even if his work doesn’t make that obvious to everyone. He has knack for conversations and moments of introspection that should translate brilliantly to this, admittedly Rear Window-esque, thriller.
Of course, Emily Blunt may convince you as well.
The film has finally released some looks at more of what’s going on in the film, notably other members of the cast who make up what The Girl on the Train is looking at.

A new trailer has surfaced for the thriller, based on the novel, The Girl on the Train and we're getting a big Gone Girl vibe from it in the best way possible. Come inside to take a look!
From the trailer alone, we can tell that this movie is going to be another edge of your seat thriller. A woman (Emily Blunt) witnesses a murder from a train and suddenly she's now in question as a murder suspect. It's very reminiscent of 2014's Gone Girl, in that there so many twists and turns you really aren't sure if she did it or not. Not to mention, it also looks like it in the cinematography.
Although, this is just a teaser trailer. However, if The Girl On the Train is anything like Gone Girl, we're in for another amazing film. Not to mention, a big bump in stardom for Emily Blunt,...

While she can be seen in a fantastical world with The Huntsman: Winter’s War this weekend, Emily Blunt‘s more grounded — and substantial — role will come this fall with The Girl on the Train. Based on Paula Hawkins’ best-seller, today the first trailer has landed for the Tate Taylor-directed, Steven Spielberg-produced mystery thriller.

"Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World" hits shelves on DVD and Blu-Ray in November, and Universal has released the full specs for every iteration of Edgar Wright's live-action adaptation of Bryan Lee O'Malley's hit comic book series.
While the movie didn't quite meet expectations at the box office, it was difficult to find anyone who didn't have high praise for Wright's kinetic, effects-driven celebration of everything that made O'Malley's comic so great. And like any good DVD/Blu-Ray release, the movie comes packed with some cool bonus features, too.
Personally, I'm a little intrigued by the deleted scenes and alternate footage, as I managed to sneak into an early workprint of the film and, well... the ending of the unfinished version of the film was quite different from the theater cut I saw.

Universal has loaded up "2 Guns," picking up the rights to the graphic novel from Boom! Studios. Marc Platt will produce the crime thriller via his Marc Platt Prods. banner along with Boom! co-founders Andrew Cosby and Ross Richie. It's the third time the parties are teaming up.
"Guns," written by Steven Grant with art by Mat Santolouco, follows a DEA agent and an undercover Naval Intelligence officer who are unwittingly investigating each other and who steal mob money for the good guys. They realize later that the mob actually got them to steal $50 million from the CIA.
The project is targeted to be a throwback to classic '80s buddy cop movies in the vein of "Lethal Weapon" and "48 Hrs.," but with a modern spin.
Uni's Jeffrey Kirsch?en?baum will oversee for the studio; Adam Siegel, who brought the project into Marc Platt Prods., will oversee for the company with Jared LeBoff.
Cosby and Richie are producing via their Boom Entertainment.
At Universal, Platt, the producer behind the studio's hit comic book movie "Wanted," also has set up with Richie and Cosby the Boom! projects "Tag" and "Talent."...

TORONTO -- Universal Pictures has optioned the script to Jeff the Immortal by Chris Bishop for Marc Platt to produce and Adam Goldberg to executive produce.
Immortal is a supernatural comedy that follows a slacker who discovers that he is the latest in a long line of immortal warriors and, a la Highlander, must fight to achieve his destiny.
The project is the latest for the Goldberg-Bishop team, which set up a remake of the German movie Night of the Living Dorks at Warner Independent Pictures in the spring. WMA-repped Goldberg (Fanboys) specializes in geek comedies and met Bishop while working on the sitcom Still Standing. He took him under his wing, shepherding his jump to the film world.
Universal-based Platt is producing Wanted, with Angelina Jolie, Morgan Freeman and James McAvoy, for the studio.
Adam Siegel and Jared LeBoff will oversee for Marc Platt Prods. Jeff Kirschenbaum shepherds for Universal.
Bishop is repped by Endeavor and Kaplan/Perrone.
