The London Action Fest’s weekend events kicked off on Saturday at Picturehouse Central with a screening of Chia-Liang Liu’s phenomenal The Legend of Drunken Master (Aka Drunken Master 2), a highly sought action classic that’s overdue a remastered Blu ray release.
Following this was the first panel event: The World in Action- Celebrating Asian Action Cinema with Joey Ansah, Mike Fury (journalist and author) and Jude Poyer.
The guests talked about what drew them to Asian cinema, citing early exposure to ninja films on VHS, a martial artist Pe teacher, and sneaking into late night screenings of Hong Kong films, in Soho.
A sequence from Sammo Hung’s Dragons Forever, starring Jackie Chan, was then presented, and the panel discussed why the film is so special, citing hand-to-hand combat and frenetic editing. They also talked about how Hong Kong cinema was better than American action films of the time,...

At least in 2020, going to the theater for a rollicking summer blockbuster is not a thing. It just isn’t. Part of the summer movie season is the feeling of watching a big budget flick with a cold drink, some popcorn, and the air-conditioning blasting as a refrain from the heat. Without that, there does seem to be a gaping hole for cinema lovers. Well, Netflix is stepping up, not with the feeling of being in a theater, but with a quality would-be blockbuster in The Old Guard, which fits just what you want out of a July release. The film is an action epic, based on the comic book of the same name. The title refers to a small group of covert mercenaries with a secret that has made them unbeatable in battle. Simply put, they don’t seem to be able to die, allowing them, under the leadership...

I think the new Jason Bourne movie had me when, early in the film, Julia Stiles’ returning Nicky unpacks what looks like a Russian Zx Spectrum 48k and starts using it to hack an otherwise impenetrable computer network. I’d like to think she has a quick go on Manic Miner on it when the cameras were off.
Still, by then we’d already had a ‘previously on Jason Bourne recap’, giving a brief overview of the first three films in the series. And we’d had further evidence that director Paul Greengrass – returning with Matt Damon, after the pair (wisely) skipped The Bourne Legacy – has an unmatched ability to make gazing at computer screens the most thrilling and tense thing in the world. For the umpteenth time in Greengrass-directed movies, I nearly yanked the armrests off my seat, as little graphics blipped across a monitor.

This long-awaited and highly anticipated program is Machinima's first series to air exclusively on go90 and is now available by downloading it. Download here! How did you get involved with the Street Fighter project? I was contacted by Joey Ansah through Facebook. He obviously had been following my work on Kickboxer and contacted me about this project and sent me a bunch of information on the character Charlie Nash. He wanted to know if I would be interested in auditioning for it. I did some research on who Nash was and I loved it and thought it was really cool. As soon as I saw the character he wanted me to play I was like "Dude I'm down, I have to play this character!" The next thing I know I'm Charlie Nash. Where you familiar with Street Fighter and the Franchise before? I was, but I'm not an active gamer.

The latest piece of content to arrive on Verizon’s Go90 service comes from Machinima. The gaming and pop culture network is behind Street Fighter: Resurrection, which adapts its titular fighting game franchise in dark and gritty fashion.
The team behind Resurrection, creator Joey Ansah’s World Warrior Limited, first began producing Street Fighter fan films independently. In 2012, World Warrior joined forces with Capcom, the publisher behind the Street Fighter games, for Assassin’s Fist, a web series that would ultimately be distributed by Machinima. Assassin’s Fist performed well, generating 17 million views across all its episodes, though it has since been removed from YouTube.
Resurrection continues the Street Fighter story by picking it up ten years after the end of Assassin’s Fist. All of the fighting game franchise’s most popular heroes are here, and World Warrior has rendered them faithfully. A sneak-peek clip from the show, for example,...

Street Fighter: Resurrection, Machinima’s newest live action series, launches Tuesday, March 15th exclusively on go90. Resurrection features Christian Howard and Mike Moh reprising their Assassin's Fist roles of Ken and Ryu. Alain Moussi stars as Nash. Though the web series will focus on Nash and his fight against Shadaloo, if Nash is involved, certainly we have to get a cameo of Guile, right? Scott Adkins has long been the fan favorite to play the character and he's good friends with director Joey Ansah. Machinima is producing another dark, gritty story based on a popular video game franchise, and its latest work looks just as compelling as any of its previous work. The network focused on gaming and fan culture has shared the trailer for Street Fighter: Resurrection, which will premiere on Verizon’s Go90 platform on March 15th.
Resurrection, which Machinima revealed late last year, is a follow-up to the network’s previous take on the Street Fighter franchise, 2014’s Assassin’s Fist. That series, which scored more than 17 million views, proved to be a hit, though it was later removed from Machinima’s YouTube channel. In producing Resurrection, Machinima seems to have adopted an “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it” approach. The creative team that made Assassin’s Fist, led by creator Joey Ansah, is back on board, and they’ve returned to the same low-lit, stylish look for Resurrection.

Capcom's best brawlers are coming back to Machinima. Assassin's Fist, which debuted in May after spending nearly two years in development, served as a far cry from the Street Fighter adaptations of the 90s. Assassin's Fist featured a dark, serious style, and creator Joey Ansah chose to go with a prequel plotline instead of setting his series at the titular tournament. The result was a success. Street Fighter! For fans of the franchise the words caused the blood to pump, the fingers to twitch, and a grin to cross their lips. It’s been going strong for almost 30 years since the introduction of the original “Street Fighter” video game in 1987. But it wasn’t until 1991 when its sequel “Street Fighter II” hit the arcades that the phenomenon truly took hold. From there it exploded into expansion after expansion, adding characters, adding and fine-tuning moves, and deepening gameplay. It expanded its lore through other media like anime and manga. It even got the Hollywood treatment, although with less than favorable results. And that brings us to Joey Ansah and Christian Howard’s “Street Fighter: Assassin’s Fist,” quite possibly the best live-action adaptation of any fighting game. I’ve been a fan of these guys since there initial short, “Street Fighter: Legacy.” As soon as...

Street Fighter: Assassin's Fist is here. The fan web series based off of Capcom's classic series of fighting games has debuted on Machinima, where the first season is now available in its entirety. Assassin's Fist is a Street Fighter prequel that takes place during the formative years of close friends and protagonists Ken and Ryu. In the first episode, they train alongside their master, Goken. The series is based off a fan film created by Joey Ansah, who is also the creative force behind Assassin's Fist (and co-stars as Akuma). Through Machinima, Ansah will be able to easily reach his target audience. The first season of Assassin's Fist consists of 12 episodes (plus a prologue). Its similarities to Mortal Kombat: Legacy have been noted, though Assassin's Fist features a slower pace and a lot more character development.

Machinima has released the 12 episodes from series of "Street Fighter: Assassin's Fist."
Through the coming of age story of Ken & Ryu, we are shown the backstory of some of the game’s most iconic characters, and over the course of the series we will see how the past, present, and future of all of those characters are intertwined, as the battle to become Ansatsuken Master threatens to tear apart another generation of brothers.

The long awaited series premiere Street Fighter: Assassin's Fist, from Joey Ansah (Akuma), and Christian Howard (Ken) is finally here. Being a long time fan of the Street Fighter video game series, Ansah set out to make a live-action adaptation of the video game classic that would satisfy not only him, but fans of the series as well. To begin his quest, Ansah teamed up with Christian Howard, Owen Trevor, and Jacqueline Quella to bring to life his vision of what a live-action adaptiation of Street Fighter should be and Street Fighter: Legacy was born. With Capcom's blessing Street Fighter: Legacy (a trailer type short) was released to the public on May 6 of 2010. With it's release Ansah's short-film received critical and fan praise alike. In 2012 at the San Diego Comic Con International, Capcom announced that it had granted the rights to Assassin's Fist Limited to produce a live-action...

Some of the most legendary fighters in video game history are set to duke it out once again. On May 23rd, Machinima will release the entire first season of Street Fighter: Assassin's Fist, an action web series set in the Street Fighter universe. Assassin's Fist began back in 2010 when creator Joey Ansah debuted Street Fighter: Legacy, a well-received fan film based on the franchise. After gaining Capcom's seal of approval but failing to crowdfund the money he needed to make his web series a reality, Ansah brought Assassin's Fist to Machinima, where its official trailer is now live. Machinima fans will recognize the many commonalities between Assassin's Fist and Kevin Tancharoen's successful Mortal Kombat: Legacy web series. Both promise a confluence of flying fists and CG fireballs, both were launched through successful fan films, and both feature casting choices and costume designs that are very faithful to their...

I still don’t know the end game for Joey Ansah’s “Street Fighter: Assassin’s Fist.” Is this purely a web series that will cater to fans of the game? One of those one-and-done? It certainly feels that way. The plot, such as it is, doesn’t seem to have a lot going for it. It’s about two guys who are learning kung fu, then some guy shows up, and they fight. That’s about it. For twelve episodes? Huh. I dunno. I guess if you’re Really into the game, this is what you want. I think. Anyways, check out the full trailer for “Street Fighter: Assassin’s Fist” and you can decide for yourself. A multi-layered series that looks back to the formative years of Ryu and Ken as they live a traditional warrior’s life in secluded Japan. The boys are, unknowingly, the...

Joey Ansah’s upcoming “Street Fighter: Assassin’s Fist” is all about how Ken and Ryu found their funky uniforms and how someone convinced them to keep wearing them. Oh wait, no, it’s not? Huh. Anyways, since we previously saw a Ryu-centric trailer for “Street Fighter: Assassin’s Fist,” I guess it’s only fair that we know get Ken’s take. You get the feeling the Japanese folks who created the game were patterning Ken after the Ken doll (of Barbie fame)? I could be wrong, of course. A multi-layered series that looks back to the formative years of Ryu and Ken as they live a traditional warrior’s life in secluded Japan. The boys are, unknowingly, the last practitioners of the ancient fighting style known as “Ansatsuken” (Assassin’s Fist). The series follows them as they learn about the mysterious past of their master, Goken,...

The Street Fighter: Assassin's Fist co-writing and co-starring team of Christian Howard and Joey Ansah (also, the director) talk to IGN about the science of hadouken and also about the sequencing of the web series' unveiling of Ansatsuken lore. The interview kind of takes a turn into "What If" territory, but the beginning portion contains some tantalizing action footage. "We thought the audience should earn the right to see hado and they have to learn hado with Ryu (Mike Moh) and Ken (Christian Howard). " ...

I used to play “Street Fighter” on the arcades way, way back when there were still arcades. Not so much these days, what with the PS10s and X-Box-1000s and such that you kids are all on. Apparently writer/director Joey Ansah was one of those kids who lined up to put in his quarters to battle some fool on a “Street Fighter” arcade game after school, because why else would he dedicate so much time and effort to making this movie? I’m honestly not sure if kids these days even remember “Street Fighter.” Anyways. Check out the latest teaser trailer for the upcoming TV series/DVD movie/online series, which focuses on Ryu. They sure have the costume down, that’s fer sho. Assassin’s Fist is the translation of ‘Ansatsuken’ the arcane Japanese lethal Martial Arts style of which Gouken, Gouki/Akuma Ryu and Ken are all exponents.

Following the release of the first trailer last month, Machinima now presents one focused on the fighter from Japan, showing us his childhood and training and eventual mastery of the Hadouken. Ever wondered how Ryu and Ken and all those street fightin’ street fighters of the game “Street Fighter” got their start? Well, director Joey Ansah’s “Street Fighter: Assassin’s Fist” is going to tell you how. The series will be making its online premiere via Machinima, similar to Kevin Tancharoen’s “Mortal Kombat: Legacy” very soon. You can check out a teaser trailer for the web series below. As you’ll recall, Ansah actually started a Kickstarter campaign to raise money for his vision of “Street Fighter.” I guess he got what he needed. I don’t know if selling the series to Machinima was what he had planned, but hey, it’s better than screening for bums in an alleyway, right? Street Fighter: Assassin's Fist is coming to Machinima. The live-action adaptation of the popular fighting game will be released through the main channel of YouTube's top gaming network. Street Fighter: Assassin's Fist has a lot of web video history behind it. It began as Street Fighter: Legacy, a 2010 fan film that has received nearly five million views to date. In September 2012, Capcom gave Legacy creator Joey Ansah its blessing, and he began developing Assassin's Fist as a full-fledged web series, with some help from the video game publisher. Thus began a long campaign to pick up enough funding without sacrificing creative integrity. In April 2013, during the height of the Kickstarter craze, Ansah launched a crowdfunding campaign searching for close to $1 million. After failing to gain much traction, he shelved the campaign, and he finds his series attached to Machinima year later. Machinima was the always the best fit for Assassin's Fist.

There's a web series based on Capcom's Street Fighter games coming out this year. Here's a handsome poster to remind us...
Capcom's hit videogame series Street Fighter hasn't exactly had the most classy track record on the silver screen. The 1994 film, which starred Jead-Claude Van Damme in his action star pomp alongside Kylie Minogue and Raul Julia, was the kind of amiably daft film we always seem to find while sleepily flicking through the TV channels after the pub's closed. The 2009 film Street Fighter: The Legend Of Chun-Li wasn't terribly good, but it did have the benefit of having Michael Clarke Duncan in the role of Balrog.
The web series Street Fighter: Assassin's Fist, although very much a low-budget labour of love, promises to do a better job of rendering the games' characters in flesh-and-blood form. It arrives on the back of the success of Street Fighter: Legacy,...
