Crank up some Salt-n-Pepa, because it’s time to talk about sex, baby. Specifically, we need to break down the horny history that was just made on Lifetime, with the airing of the network’s first-ever Christmas movie sex scene on Saturday night.
The literal roll in the hay comes courtesy of A Cowboy Christmas Romance, which stars Jana Kramer (One Tree Hill) as Lexie Crenshaw, a high-powered real estate boss who must return to her Arizona hometown — the one to which she swore she’d never go back! — to secure a career-defining account. This action film about a smuggler and the cop on her tail invites comparisons to the Michael Mann thriller – which it conspicuously fails to live up to
The plot of this trite crime thriller revolves around two women: desperate single mother Holly (Danielle C Ryan), who gets caught up in smuggling black market pharmaceuticals, and Ptsd-afflicted veteran and FBI field agent Jaylynne Jackson (Diora Baird), who is assigned to bust the smuggling operation. The narrative crosscuts between their parallel stories, with their paths crossing only briefly at first at a petrol station. Later they have a sitdown in a diner to discuss their antagonism, which suggests writer-director Shane Stanley and co think they’re tipping their hat to Michael Mann’s Heat but with two women instead of Al Pacino and Robert De Niro. Although it’s an interesting idea, sadly the execution is dire, with cliche-riddled dialogue as cheesy...

Lifetime has always been horny for the holidays, but now the network is finally letting its festive freak flag fly.
Premiering on Saturday, Dec. 9 (8/7c), A Cowboy Christmas Romance is “the first Christmas movie that has a sex scene,” star Jana Kramer revealed during the Nov. 27 episode of her Whine Down podcast, even dropping a hint about her big scene with co-star Adam Senn: “We’re on this — spoiler alert — he lays me down on some hay, and then we, you know … obviously it’s still Lifetime, it’s still family, but it’s pushing limits there, too.”

When “You’re Not Supposed to Be Here” writer Lauren Caster went on a camping trip to one of the Bureau of Land Management’s many camp grounds, she was struck by the sparse facilities nearby, whose sense of isolation would be haunting during a pregnancy.
“There’s a lot of towns around there that sometimes aren’t welcoming to people visiting,” Caster told TheWrap. “Once I was pregnant, I had all these emotions, and I felt isolated and vulnerable.”
Leaning into Jordan Peele-esque themes, the Lifetime thriller, which premieres Nov. 4, centers on pregnant lesbian couple Zoe (Chrishell Stause) and Kennedy (Diora Baird), who attempt to disconnect from their stressful lives and reconnect with each other by going on a weekend getaway to a cabin in the woods, courtesy of Kennedy’s boss. While the spouses lean on the vacation to alleviate their problems, Zoe begins to feel unsettled...

In space, no one can hear you scream — and no one knows who to trust, either.
MGM+ has released the official trailer for Beacon 23, an eight-episode sci-fi thriller starring Lena Headey (Game of Thrones) and Stephan James (Homecoming). In the trailer — which you can watch above — Headey plays a government agent named Aster who crash-lands into a space station run by James’ character Halan. They’re cordial at first, but things turn frosty when Aster asks to see the station’s data, and Halan bluntly refuses. “He’s hiding something,” Aster decides, and when Halan brings up the concept of “we,...

A babymoon is supposed to be a relaxing pre-birth break, but it looks set to take on a very different meaning on You're Not Supposed to Be Here.
The Lifetime movie will debut on Saturday, November 4, at 8/7c, and the first trailer is insane.
Chrishell Stause stars opposite Diora Baird, with the pair playing a couple whose babymoon to a remote mountain town is anything but peaceful.
The movie came from a concept by Lauren Caster, who won The WrapWomen and Lifetime PitchFest for Emerging Female Filmmakers in 2021 as part of Lifetime's Broader Focus initiative that supports female creatives.
"When pregnant lesbian couple Zoe and Kennedy struggle with the stress of work and family life, Kennedy's boss offers them a cabin getaway in the woods," the logline teases.
"When they arrive at the beautiful cabin located in a remote mountain town, the locals aren't all overly welcoming," Lifetime adds.

Night Train is a movie by Shane Stanley in which we can see Diora Baird in a very American thriller. The co-star is Abraham Benrubi.
The plot is about a Hollywood truck driver who avoids being pursued by the FBI. Our dear Diora Baird will piece everything together in this action thriller written by Shane Stanley.
Souped up cars, races and lots of road humor in this production with a very American flavor.
Our Opinion Night Train (2023)
This isn´t going to be the blockbuster of the year. It is a very simple thriller done with just enough resources and which is happy to be a secondary market product.
You can get an idea with this information and a little imagination (without much malice or sarcasm).

In this installment of The Silver Lining, we’ll be covering Jonathan Liebesman’s unfairly maligned prequel, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Beginning.
While the production company is now mostly known for movies like The Purge and A Quiet Place, it was originally a series of horror remakes that put Platinum Dunes on the map. Flicks like 2005’s The Amityville Horror and 2009’s Friday the 13th made big money at the box office, but it was the astounding success of the 2003 The Texas Chainsaw Massacre remake that made this endeavor possible in the first place.
And with the success of that initial remake convincing Hollywood that brutal horror was still a sound investment, it makes sense that TCM would be the first movie in Platinum Dunes’ repertoire to garner a sequel. So where might a filmmaker go after a no-holds-barred splatterfest that ends with most of the cannibal family being...

Fresh off his gig hosting this year’s Primetime Emmys, comedian and “SNL” veteran Kenan Thompson is back on stage Thursday night in Atlanta, as he kicks off the 13th edition of his “Kenan Presents The Ultimate Comedy Showcase” — and this time with a few new technological wrinkles.
The stand-up comedy search, which leads off at the Atlanta Comedy Theatre on Sept. 22, follows Thompson as he scouts for adult comedians and talented kids in more than 50 cities. Among the new elements, all around the country (50+ major cities).
Thompson has teamed up with Rendered Talent to include a virtual reality option for participants to partake in the metaverse through the “Failed To Render Comedy Club.” In addition, Thompson partnered with Proto to be able to join live shows through the metaverse as a digital hologram, attending showcases digitally to accommodate his busy schedule via Proto’s 4K hologram device.

This Cobra Kai article contains spoilers.
When it comes right down to it, Cobra Kai is about bullies. If Johnny Lawrence (William Zabka) had never bullied Daniel Larusso (Ralph Macchio) way back in the first film, The Karate Kid, Daniel probably wouldn’t have pursued Karate. And if Sensei Kreese (Martin Kove) had not bullied Johnny, he probably wouldn’t have swept the leg.
But with all of this bullying in the Miyagi-verse, who is the worst offender? Let’s find out!
The Case for Johnny Lawrence
Cobra Kai has expanded the backstories of many of these bullies and has somewhat redeemed them. They’ve progressed from cardboard cutouts into complex characters with relatable motivations. Case and point: Johnny Lawrence.
From the very beginning of Cobra Kai, Johnny is portrayed as more of a victim than a bully. Dysfunctional relationships with his domineering and abusive stepfather Sid (Ed Asner), his...

Less than a week after Anthony Hopkins won his second Academy Award for “The Father,” a dud called “The Virtuoso” arrives to make you wonder if they gave it to the wrong guy. The lousy-follow-up phenomenon happens all the time, but rarely does an Oscar winner have a turkey already waiting in the wings to undermine a career-high achievement.
Hopkins isn’t awful in “The Virtuoso,” but the movie that surrounds him is. It’s a cut-rate thriller about a nameless hit man (Anson Mount) so busy telling audiences how professional he is — via such affirmational observations as “You’re a professional, an expert dedicated to timing and precision” — that he doesn’t seem to notice his latest assignment is a setup.
The killer in question lives in a cabin in the woods, as so many movie assassins do. But instead of having to fight off younger comers eager to speed his retirement along,...

"We're killing machines - it's what we do!" Lionsgate has released a trailer for an action thriller titled The Virtuoso, produced and directed by filmmaker Nick Stagliano. A lonesome stranger must track down and kill a rogue hitman to satisfy an outstanding debt. But the only information he's been given is a time and location where to find his quarry - 5pm at a rustic diner in the dying town. No name, description, nothing. When the assassin arrives in there are several possible targets, including the county sheriff. But the danger escalates when an encounter with a local woman threaten to derail his task. The film stars Anson Mount as "The Virtuoso" and Anthony Hopkins as "The Mentor", with Abbie Cornish, Anson Mount, Diora Baird, Eddie Marsan, David Morse, and Richard Brake. This looks like another of these derivative been-there-done-that hitman films. This is a slick trailer, I'll admit that,...

You wouldn't know it from the film's lack of marketing, but a new movie called Black or White debuted in theaters today. Despite the presence of stars Kevin Costner and Octavia Spencer, I've never seen a trailer or TV spot for the movie, which BoxOfficeMojo says is in over 1,000 theaters right now. (Apparently the film played at last year's Toronto International Film Festival and didn't receive very favorable reviews.) I don't ever plan on watching this film, but that doesn't mean that I can't come up with a tangentially-related article about it. Black or White got me thinking: what other movies share a title with a Michael Jackson song?
As far as ground rules go, there's really only one major one: the title of the movie and the song have to match exactly - if a word is possessive, I'm not making an exception. Exact matches or Gtfo. I'll embed...

As I mentioned in yesterday’s wrap-up of Platinum Dunes’ remake of The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, it didn’t seem like the team behind that film were thinking in terms of “franchise” when they set about to re-introduce Leatherface to a brand new audience. If they had, then I doubt the ending of that movie would’ve had as many finalities with their core group as it had; something that earns that particular remake bonus points. So, after winning over the skeptical fans and in lieu of a slew of similar post-Chainsaw horror movies that followed like Saw and Hostel (which Chainsaw producer Mike Fleiss also was involved with), the Pd gang started seriously contemplating an appropriate follow-up. And for them, the only story that made sense to tell was the one that came before the remake.

After Dark has been busy releasing a full slate of genre fare, and today we take a look at the After Dark Action lineup which dropped no fewer than four new movies in May. They each had a brief theatrical run are now available on VOD. Read on below to hear our thoughts on movies featuring Dolph Lundgren, Scott Adkins, Jim Caviezel and more.

Martial artist Scott Adkins stars in "El Gringo" as a popular action staple, the lone man with a big bag o' money. Wandering into a small Mexican town, it's not long before an endless wave of cartoon bad guys puts a bounty on his head. He responds with fists and feet. And there's your movie!

★★★☆☆ Newly-released on DVD and Blu-ray this week comes Transit (2012), a fast-paced action film from Colombian film director Antonio Negret. Bursting into action with an armoured truck being lured into a $4 million heist, we meet the sinister protagonists at the forefront of the ensuing chase: the poker-faced Marek (James Frain) and the twitchy machete-wielding Losada (Harold Perrineau). The two are accompanied by Marek's big-breasted broad Arielle (Diora Baird) and the peaky-looking Evers (Ryan Donowho).

★★★☆☆ "You said nobody was supposed to die." "I lied", replies the gruff-voice of Marek (James Frain) near the beginning of Antonio Negret's Transit (2012) - he's clearly not a nice man. He's just finished robbing an armoured truck with his angry number two Losada (Harold Perrineau) - he is also not a nice man. Together, they flee the scene with Marek's floozy Arielle (Diora Baird) and their unhinged driver Evers (Ryan Donowho) - you can bet he's not a nice man either.

There are only two episodes left before "Psych" goes on hiatus and they look to have some of the good old-fashioned Gus and Shawn shenanigans in store. In "The Tao of Gus," a woman, Nicole (Diora Baird), claims to have witnessed a murder. Naturally, only Shawn and Gus believe her and to keep her safe, they stash her at a remote hippie commune called the Box Canyon Ranch.
Diedrich Bader also guest stars as the head of the commune, Eli. Zap2it has an exclusive sneak peek above, where Shawn and Gus are trying to get the "granola chick" to remember exactly what she saw. But is someone trying to keep her quiet by running her down?
And in the other two clips below, we meet Eli - Bader is a delightful hippie leader - and Shawn and Gus try to stash Nicole at Juliet's house after the car incident.

It's about time Gus had a little luck with the ladies. After five years on Psych as Shawn's (James Roday) briefly married but mostly single sidekick, Gus is finally enjoying some "kissy-face" this season. Everyone’s favorite undead cop on a mission is getting itself an HD upgrade thanks to the folk at Synapse. William Lustig’s Maniac Cop, which was originally released back in 1988, has long been a fan favorite (and a favorite of mine) so it is good to see it finally get a Blu-ray release. This bad-boy will be hitting the street on October 11th.
Innocent people are brutally killed on the streets of New York by a uniformed police officer. A young cop, Jack Forrest (Bruce Campbell, TV’s Burn Notice and The Evil Dead Trilogy) finds himself marked as the chief suspect after his wife is murdered. As Lieutenant Frank McCrae (Tom Atkins, Drive Angry and Lethal Weapon) investigates, the death toll rises and he suspects a mysterious police cover-up. This “maniac” cop must be stopped, but it might not be so easy. He seems inhuman, and ready to...

We are huge fans of Synapse Films at Destroy the Brain. Don May Jr. and his assorted bunch of film misfits really cater to genre fans with quality releases. For example, Synapse is putting the previously mistreated-on-dvd title The Exterminator next Tuesday, September 13th (Review coming soon). Synapse keeps the exploitation Blu-Ray train rolling with William Lustig’s Maniac Cop, which stars Bruce Campbell and Tom Atkins, and a revenge flick called South of Heaven which played at the now expired CineVegas Film Festival back in 2008.
