Politicians have been diversifying their tactics in attempts to engage new audiences in recent years.
This has resulted in the use of music alongside campaigns, speeches and social media videos. Many try to choose a track that makes them relatable, or worse, cool.
As you can imagine, when an artist disagrees with the politics of the person who has used their music, things can get a little ugly.
Below we list five times artists have rejected politicians using their music:
Dr. Dre

The Apprentice star Lord Alan Sugar has opened up about what viewers don’t see on screen.
BBC’s business-styled reality competition returned earlier this month on Thursday (5 January), with 18 new contestants competing to win Sugar’s £250,000 investment.
Devised following the success of the American original led by Donald Trump, The Apprentice UK has been running since 2005, fronted by Sugar.
Each episode sees the contestants take on a different task after which they assemble in a boardroom to have their performance critiqued by Sugar, whose manner is often depicted as harsh and abrasive.
Speaking to The Guardian about his time on the show, Sugar, 75, shed some light on the reality behind the episodes.
“One of the things I’ve got used to is needing patience,” he said.
“There’s a lot of hanging around between board meetings. The boardroom sessions go on for three-and-a-half hours but you only see 25 minutes.

One of the organisers behind New Orleans’s annual Mardi Gras parade has removed actor Mel Gibson as its co-grand marshal, citing “significant feedback” and “threats”.
Krewe of Endymion, one of the festival’s largest parade groups, received backlash after announcing Gibson as one of their celebrity guests.
The actor has faced intense criticism in the past for making racist, anti-semitic and homophobic comments. In 2021, he came under more scrutiny after he was spotted saluting Donald Trump in a video.
“The Krewe of Endymion has received significant feedback about our grand marshall announcement,” Krewe President Dan Kelly said in a statement shared with local news.
He added: “Some of this commentary included threats that cause us great concern.
“In the best interest of the safety of our riders, special guests and everyone that welcomes us on the streets, Mel Gibson will not ride as a Co-Grand Marshal for our 2023 parade.

“In comedy we talk a lot about ‘pushing the envelope,’ ” says Hasan Minhaj. “But sometimes the envelope pushes back.” He’s talking about the now-infamous episode of Patriot Act, his Peabody Award-winning talk show, that took aim at Saudi Arabia Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman’s alleged involvement in the Jamal Khashoggi murder. The full story behind that episode — which Netflix pulled from Saudi Arabia after receiving a legal threat — is one of the main topics of Minhaj’s new stand-up special, The King’s Jester (Netflix, Oct. 4). “For me, this whole special was an exploration of how I can clearly define what I’m willing to say now.”
The former Daily Show correspondent, 37, worked with director and Patriot Act co-creator Prashanth Venkataramanujam on the hourlong special. Jester began as what Minhaj describes as “comedy vomit,” coming to life through small pop-up shows...

Trevor Noah thinks that Donald Trump may need a bit of help getting Mar-a-Lago back in tip-top shape once the FBI finishes its investigation — and he knows the perfect person for the job.
“Over the weekend, we finally got a detailed rundown of what the FBI took away,” he said during Tuesday night’s episode of “The Daily Show.” “There were 31 documents labeled ‘confidential.’ There were 54 labeled ‘secret,’ and 18 labeled ‘top secret.’ Even better than that, agents found those documents intermingled in the same boxes as magazine clippings and clothing.”
He added: “So, I guess Trump has a legal problem and a hoarding problem. After the FBI is done with Trump, we need to send in Marie Kondo just to be like, ‘does this 1987 copy of Playboy spark joy Donald?'”

Though it sets out on a ghost hunt, Adrian Sibley’s fitfully fascinating documentary works better as an exploration of its subject’s public and private personas, charting Richard Harris’ rise from local sports star to screen legend via an unexpected heyday as a chart-topping pop star in 1968.
Rather than start with a séance, however, The Ghost of Richard Harris, screening in the Classics section of the Venice Film Festival, opens with the more prosaic sight of the actor’s three sons — Damien, Jared and Jamie — going through their late mother’s lock-up, where they find journals full of poetry, King Arthur’s crown (a prop from 1967’s Camelot) and trinkets from the Harry Potter franchise, in which their father played Dumbledore until his death in 2002, aged 72.
This set-up proves to be somewhat self-defeating, as the three middle-aged men, while reminiscing, then admit that they were packed away to boarding...

Feature documentary “The Ghost of Richard Harris,” which premieres Sunday at the Venice Film Festival, looks to answer the question: “Who was Richard Harris?” The film also contains the revelation that Harris was offered the role of Gandalf in Peter Jackson’s “Lord of the Rings” movies, but chose to take the part of Dumbledore in the “Harry Potter” franchise instead.
Variety spoke to director Adrian Sibley and Richard Harris’ son Jared Harris – a distinguished actor himself, and one of the originators of the project – about how the documentary came to be made.
Sibley first broached the subject of making a film about Richard Harris some 20 years ago with the man himself, who responded: “I’ll do it, but only if I can tell the truth half the time,” Jared Harris recalls.
“This Sporting Life”
Sibley liked this idea but the BBC – who he pitched it to – were less keen.

He topped the charts, dated a princess and was a screen star from the kitchen sink 60s to Harry Potter. Yet his achievements were eclipsed by his hell-raising image. As a new film searches for the real Richard Harris, his son Jared looks back
It was in the late 1990s that Adrian Sibley first conceived of making a Richard Harris documentary. Back then, the brilliant Irish actor was in his early 70s, and best known for his defiant, broad-shouldered roles in such films as the 1963 kitchen-sink drama This Sporting Life and the violent 1970 western A Man Called Horse. But he also found himself beloved by a new generation of fans, thanks to his gentle, timeworn performance as Professor Albus Dumbledore in Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone. Wary of hagiography, yet a keen storyteller, Harris agreed to do Sibley’s film under one condition.
