The Zhuhai Championships is one of two tournaments being played on Chinese soil this week, running from September 20th to 26th.
The draw for the Atp 250 event has just been released, promising a number of intriguing matches as early as day one. The biggest draw at the event Daniil Medvedev withdrew prior to the tournament , so the seeds have shuffled a bit.
Karen Khachanov is now the top seed and the foreman in the top half of the draw. He starts off his campaign in the second round against one of Diego Schwartzman or a qualifier. Khachanov has a losing record against the Argentine, but Schwartzman is no longer the force he once was and will be overwhelmed by the Russian's brute firepower if they meet.
Fourth seed Sebastian Korda is Khachanov's projected semifinal opponent. But the American's underwhelming US Open campaign means that he's vulnerable to an upset as early as his first match,...

Director and producer Yi Zhou and Into the Sun Entertainment are partnering on the First Time Director’s Fund to support emerging filmmakers, with an official launch event set for next week during Cannes.
The latest venture from the polyglot artist, fashion designer and first-time director aims to support and nurture fellow directors breaking into the industry, and more specifically, looking to make their first feature film.
The fund particularly strives to aid those from historically underrepresented communities and those who typically do not have access to support or funding from the film industry. This includes people of color and those with disabilities. The decision to focus on new and emerging talent offers more potential to shake up the status quo and bring fresh ideas to the forefront in filmmaking, according to Zhou.
“Making a first feature film is a significant challenge for any new director,” Zhou said in a statement.

Chinese multi-hyphenate Yi Zhou has partnered with Los Angeles-based Buffalo 8 Productions on judicial inferno TV series “Kompromat,” based on the Giorgi Rtskhiladze memoir “Kompromat: My Story From Trump to Mueller and Ussr to USA.”
The limited series, on which producer-director-writer Yi Zhou (pictured) will serve as executive producer via her Sun Entertainment banner, is expected to go into production later this year in the U.S., Italy and the country of Georgia. No director is yet attached. Buffalo 8 Productions is an indie film and media company partnered with BondIt Media Capital.
Rtskhiladze, who is a Georgian-American businessman, found himself under judicial scrutiny for his work trying to build a Trump Tower in the Georgian coastal city of Batumi. The deal fell apart, with Rtskhiladze and his partners planning to sue Trump. But that wasn’t what attracted Robert Mueller’s investigation, according to promotional materials.

Well, we’ve see the list of feature-length films that are in the 2011 lineup of the Sundance Film Festival. Just moments ago, the festival revealed the full list of short films that will accompany those features – 44 in total, from a record 3,453 submissions! Wow! Glad I’m not on that judging committee.
But of note in the below list are 2 filmmakers who are followers of this blog, both I’ve communicated with in the past – one actually was mentioned on Black Filmmakers To Watch thread, so we may as well add the other.
I’m referring to Moon Molson and Tahir Jetter.
Moon’s short film is titled Crazy Beats Strong Every Time. Some may recall that, in September, I posted an entry for Moon, to help raise money to complete the short film. He was trying to raise $8,000, and actually ended up raising $10,250! So, congrats to Moon! The synopsis for...
