“Maestro,” “Saltburn” and “Barbie” have won the feature-film awards from the Make-Up Artists and Hair Stylists Guild, which gave out its annual awards on Sunday evening in Los Angeles.
“Maestro” won awards the two Muahs categories that most closely correspond to the Oscars’ Best Makeup and Hairstyling category: Best Special Make-Up Effects and Best Period and/or Character Make-Up.
“Saltburn” won for Best Contemporary Make-Up and Best Contemporary Hair Styling, while “Barbie” took the award for Best Period and/or Character Hair Styling.
The wins were significant for “Maestro,” which has seen its status as a frontrunner for the Oscar makeup award falter as it lost at BAFTA and the Critics Choice Awards to “Poor Things” and “Barbie,” respectively.
In the first 15 years of the Muahs awards, which ran between 1999 and 2003 and then returned in 2013, the winner for period make-up went on to win the Oscar eight times, while...

“Cruella” (Disney) and “Being the Ricardos” (Amazon) were the surprise period winners for makeup and hairstyling, respectively, at the 9th annual Muahs Guild Awards Saturday night at the Beverly Hilton Hotel. They beat out such strong Oscar contenders as “Dune” (Warner Bros.), “House of Gucci” (MGM/UA), and “The Eyes of Tammy Faye” (Searchlight/Disney).
Additionally, “Coming 2 America” (Amazon), another Oscar contender, took contemporary makeup, hairstyling, and makeup effects honors. The latter was an impressive upset over “Dune” and “House of Gucci.” The “Coming 2 America” team of Mike Marino, Stacey Morris, and Carla Farmer perfectly complemented the Afro-punk vibe introduced by Oscar winning-costume designer Ruth Carter along with adding some new aging effects wrinkles.
While “Cruella” definitely has Oscar momentum for makeup and hair designer Nadia Stacey’s delightfully ’70s punk look for Emma Stone, the fact that the origin story split honors with “Being the Ricardos” — which...

The other two film awards went to “Cruella,” which won for period and/or character make-up, and “Being the Ricardos,” which won for period and/or character hair styling.

2021 Muah Awards: ‘Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom’ and ‘Birds of Prey’ Are Top Makeup, Hairstyling Winners
“Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom” captured the top period feature prizes for makeup and hairstyling at the 8th annual Muahs Guild Awards Saturday night, making it the prohibitive Oscar favorite for the dramatic transformation of Viola Davis as the titular pioneering blues singer. Davis, who landed her fourth Oscar nomination as the sexy, subversive Rainey — the most of any Black actress — was boldly uncompromising in demanding verisimilitude for Netflix’s adaptation of the August Wilson play. Davis was fitted with gold teeth, charcoal-like makeup, and a wig made of horsehair.
Winning both contemporary makeup and hairstyling feature honors at the virtual ceremony was Warner Bros./DC’s “Birds of Prey. He recreated the look of real wooden puppets for the titular hero (played by (Federico Ielapi) and his theater friends by using every prosthetic technique available.

Gossip Girl is making another comeback. WarnerMedia’s soon-to-launch streaming service HBO Max has ordered 10 hourlong episodes of a reimagined version of the pop culture phenomenon that made household names of stars such as Blake Lively, Leighton Meester, Penn Badgley, Chace Crawford and Ed Westwick.
The project hails from the original series writer and executive producer, Quantico creator Joshua Safran, Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage’s Fake Empire, Alloy Entertainment, Warner Bros. TV and CBS Television Studios.
Like the original series, the new iteration of Gossip Girl, written by Safran, is based on the book by Cecily von Ziegesar. The logline: Eight years after the original website went dark, a new generation of New York private school teens are introduced to the social surveillance of Gossip Girl. The prestige series will address just how much social media — and the landscape of New York itself — has changed in the intervening years.

With the reunion of classic TV shows being all the rage right now, can we ever expect CW’s ultimate millennial series Gossip Girl to come back?
“There’s been discussions,” said CW President Mark Pedowitz at TCA today, “but I don’t know if we’re there yet.”

“Saturday Night Live” won Best Variety Sketch Series at Monday’s Primetime Emmy Awards, marking the first time the long-running show has defended a series award and extending its record haul to 72, the most of any program.
Though “SNL” has been on the air for 43 years, it has only won three series awards. It took home Best Variety Series in 1976 for its first season and again in 1993 for its 18th season. After the category was split into Best Variety Sketch Series and Best Variety Talk Series in 2015, “SNL” won the former last year for its buzzy, politically charged 42nd installment. It had leading 2/13 odds to repeat this year.

“SNL”‘s 43rd season earned 21 nominations this year, including nine acting bids. It received seven statuettes at last weekend’s Creative Arts Awards, including Best Comedy Guest Actress for Tiffany Haddish.
“Portlandia” was in second with 16/1 odds.

Over the weekend, NBC’s legendary variety program “Saturday Night Live” won seven more trophies at the Creative Arts Emmys on Sunday night. It prevailed for comedy guest actress (Tiffany Haddish), variety directing (Don Roy King), music and lyrics, production design, lighting design, make-up and technical direction.
The show now has a mind-blowing 71 Emmy wins in its 43-year run, way ahead in the all-time record books for any series. The next closest series for the all-time marks held by “Game of Thrones” with 45 and “Frasier” with 37. “SNL” has got three more shots at the primetime ceremony on Monday, September 17, so how many more victories will it achieve to bump up its total haul even more? Those categories are Variety Sketch Series (where it is a virtual lock to win), Comedy Supporting Actress and Comedy Supporting Actor (with Alec Baldwin and Kenan Thompson).

I know we don’t usually do makeup tutorials on Style Hunter, but when I got this exclusive Gossip Girl how-to gem I just couldn’t resist. After all, who wouldn’t want to spruce up à la Blair Waldorf before heading out for a night on the town with their very own Chuck Bass. (Or would it be Dan? I just can’t decide anymore).
Though the show has been long lauded for its designer apparel, it takes a skilled hand and an even sharper eye to make sure the makeup stays on par with the ever-changing styles. That...

The 'Gossip Girl' actress keeps her skin incredibly smooth with a surprising product that you will literally find in the baby care aisle! Think baby products are just for tots? Leighton Meester’s makeup artist, Amy Tagliamonti, uses Mustela Hydra-Bebe Lotion on the star at the Gossip Girl set. The lotion is non-greasy so she won't look shiny in her shots, and according to Amy, Leighton loves the scent. Have you ever used a product that was specifically for babies on your own skin as an adult? There's certainly no reason not to. Just because the bottle indicates that the product is safe for babies doesn't mean it would do your skin any harm! Eden Univer [polldaddy poll=5875835]...

Too busy with the baby for pampering?
Try out Mustela’s Bebe line of skin care products on yourself for a little pick-me-up.
Made in France, the hypoallergenic and alcohol-free products not only hydrate and protect the delicate skin of babies, but work wonders on overworked moms as well.
I especially like the PhysiObebe No Rinse Cleaning Fluid ($14.50/10 oz) with aloe vera, for removing make-up or stubborn dirt. It left my face feeling super clean, yet moist and fresh.
In addition to the bottles of the cleanser, Mustela also sells Facial Cleansing Cloths with PhysiOBebe ($7.50/25 wipes), which can be used for cleaning the faces of both mom and baby, or for a quick sponge bath for infants.
I also like the Hydra Bebe Body Lotion ($14/10 oz), made with Vitamin E, Jojoba Oil and Shea Butter because of its non-greasy, absorbent consistency. And the signature Mustela scent — a subtle, light fragrance...
