Nearly a year after Queen Charlotte’s six-episode Season 1 binge drop, mega producer Shonda Rhimes — who wrote and served as showrunner on the series — is speaking on the potential for new episodes.
The Netflix drama told the story of Charlotte and George’s passionate romance and how their arranged union sparked a societal shift that resulted in the diverse world presented in Bridgerton. The season ended with the titular monarch and a rarely lucid King George in present day celebrating the news of their son Edward finally conceiving an heir.

It’s season finale time for networks, but Netflix, naturally, still has plenty of brand new TV and shows coming in May.
Jeff Daniels makes his TV return in the David E. Kelley series “A Man in Full.” That six-episode series is based on the bestselling book of the same name by Tom Wolfe. Per a press release: “When Atlanta real estate mogul Charlie Croker faces sudden bankruptcy, political and business interests collide as Charlie defends his empire from those attempting to capitalize on his fall from grace.” The series will also star Tom Pelphrey, Diane Lane, Lucy Liu, William Jackson Harper, Aml Ameen, Sarah Jones, Jon Michael Hill and Chanté Adams.
Additionally, comedy fans can get excited for a new special series from John Mulaney. The comedian is hosting a multi-night event, “John Mulaney Presents: Everybody’s in LA,” that looks to be part interview show and part man-on-the-street hijinks.

Bridgerton Season 3 is shaking things up away from the norm of the series -- but will the show remain as good with all the new changes?
The first major departure from the book series was making Bridgerton Season 3 about Colin and Penelope's love story rather than following Benedict Bridgerton and his quest for love.
However, that's not the only change we see in the series.
Obviously, nothing is going to be just like the books when it comes to adaptations, so we can expect some minor plot changes as well.
Some fans are wondering what this change means for Benedict in Season 3.
We've watched the Bridgerton brother progress through the last few seasons as he enjoys his artwork and gets to know the artist community.
Will Benedict even appear in Season 3? Right now, we don't know for certain.
It's possible that he will have very minor parts as he...

Netflix and Shondaland have released the official trailer and a set of new images for ‘Bridgerton’ Season 3. The trailer teases the steamy, friends-to-lovers romantic beginnings of Nicola Coughlan’s Penelope Featherington and Luke Newton’s Colin Bridgerton.
The eight-episode third season finds Penelope Featherington (Nicola Coughlan) having finally given up on her long-held crush on Colin Bridgerton (Luke Newton) after hearing his disparaging words about her last season. She has, however, decided it’s time to take a husband, preferably one who will provide her with enough independence to continue her double life as Lady Whistledown, far away from her mother and sisters.

But lacking in confidence, Penelope’s attempts on the marriage mart fail spectacularly.

Bridgerton season three is almost upon us (part one lands on Netflix on May 16) and the first full trailer has arrived to prove it.
Sensibly skipping book three in Julia Quinn’s frothy Regency-set series and getting straight to the Penelope and Colin of the matter, the third season is all about Pen’s search for a husband. Desperate to break out of the Featherington home and frustrated by her failure to attract attention from the ton, Penelope enlists the services of childhood pal Colin Bridgerton. With Colin’s tuition, a suitable beau can’t be far away. In fact, one might just be very close indeed…
Before we come to all the blue-eyes-bandaged-hand stuff though, some viewers have a question. Who, in the name of the gloriously bewigged Queen Charlotte, is the new face being presented at court by Lady Violet Bridgerton at 0:16?
That right there is Francesca Bridgerton,...

If you thought Ruby Sunday's (Millie Gibson) declaration that one of the situations she and The Doctor (Ncuti Gatwa) find themselves in for Doctor Who's new season is "so Bridgerton" was the only reference to the Netflix period romp, you would be mistaken. Because Queen Charlotte herself, Golda Rosheuvel, is also among the guest stars for the new season.
Rosheuvel will appear in the first episode of the latest run, playing a character named Jocelyn who collides with our dynamic duo. "It’s been amazing to see the whole world appreciate Golda’s talents, because of Bridgerton, and it’s been an absolute joy to invite her to Cardiff to help launch Ncuti and Millie’s first season," says showrunner Russell T. And that's not the only news to break from the show. We also now know the episode titles for the whole of the new season. Davies...

We may not be headed to Virgin River just yet, but the cast sure is!
Since we all love a little small-town gossip and great news, here are a few tidbits to spread around and discuss courtesy of Deadline:
Virgin River is back in production today!
While we still won't get to escape to our favorite town and all the melodrama that ensues there until 2025, at least we know the strike delays are out of the way, and filming is back in motion.
And since the cast loves us so much, they'll hopefully be teasing us with tidbits to hold us over along the way.
But that's not all we have to mull over in the interim.
The hit Netflix series will take a spin at its own spinoff in the form of a prequel.
If you're a Netflix aficionado, you'll know that one of their other massive hits is Bridgerton,...

Polin season gets underway on Bridgerton when the series returns in May, and Netflix has dropped quite the teaser to tide us over.
We’re unsure whether the clip was released to celebrate Valentine’s Day, but before you get too excited, there’s a severe lack of romance. That isn’t very Bridgerton of you, Netflix.
Instead, we see Colin (Luke Newton) getting an icy reception from Penelope (Nicola Coughlan).
The reason?
Penelope overheard the man she’d been pining for telling everyone he’d never court her.
So, she’s shocked when he dares to say he now misses her.
Penelope is done with Colin the Bridgerton Season 3 teaser
“You miss me, but you would never court me. Is that correct?” she wondered before telling him she had heard everything he said about her.

To her bewilderment, he wants to take the exchange away from the public’s prying eyes.

Netflix debuted a one-minute clip from Bridgerton season three during a special fan event featuring the cast, showrunner Jess Brownell, executive producer Shonda Rhimes, and author Julia Quinn. The clip, which was brought online immediately following the event, focuses on the prickly relationship between Penelope and Colin at the beginning of the long-awaited new season.
During the spoiler-free event, Rhimes said she’s most excited that this new season features a love story between characters we already know and root for. She also teased that a lot of characters will be finding themselves in new, interesting situations.
“Colin and Penelope are underdogs in many ways…we get to see these characters step into their power this year, which I think will make a lot of people who have ever had an unrequited crush or felt like an underdog before feel very seen,” added Jess Brownell.

Netflix has debuted a new batch of first-look images of Penelope and Colin’s budding romance in season 3 of ‘Bridgerton.’
Season 3 will be based on ‘Romancing Mister Bridgerton,’ the fourth book in Julia Quinn’s series. The third season finds Penelope Featherington (Nicola Coughlan) finally giving up on her long-held crush on Colin Bridgerton (Luke Newton) after hearing his disparaging words about her last season. She has, however, decided it’s time to take a husband, preferably one who will provide her with enough independence to continue her double life as Lady Whistledown, far away from her mother and sisters.
But lacking in confidence, Penelope’s attempts on the marriage mart fail spectacularly. Meanwhile, Colin has returned from his summer travels with a new look and a serious sense of swagger. But he’s disheartened to realize that Penelope, the one person who always appreciated him as he was, is giving him the cold shoulder.

Lady Whistledown had a Christmas present for Bridgerton fans.
The Netflix series left something under the Bridgerton tree when it delivered five first-look photos at season three on Monday.
The eight-episode third season will follow in the footsteps of several big series at the streamer (most recently, The Crown’s final season) and will be split into two parts when it releases in 2024. The first four episodes release May 16, followed by June 13 for the final four.
The third season of the hit Shondaland series will have a new showrunner, with Jess Brownell taking over from creator Chris Van Dusen, and will focus on Penelope Featherington (Nicola Coughlan) and Colin Bridgerton (Luke Newton) for what is sure to be the will-they-won’t-they romance talk of the ton. While The Buccaneers is about a group of American girls moving base to England to find husbands, it’s primarily about Nan St. George, the boldest of the lot. Just as in other classic literary works, there are many reasons to love each of the girls whose lives we get to see unravel in the first season of the series; however, there is a special highlight on Nan, so much so that you could say she’s our Jo March. In many ways, Nan’s disposition and world view are very similar to those of Jo in Little Women. She manages to be the most selfish and yet the most giving of the lot, a combination very fiercely displayed in Greta Gerwig’s version of the beloved character. I suppose you could say there’s nothing to really dislike about Nan; it makes full sense why two of England’s...

Ready for another rendezvous with the ton?
“Bridgerton” is returning to Netflix in 2024, with the third season of the period drama waltzing onto streaming in two parts. The first four episodes will premiere on May 16, and the next four will be available to stream on June 13.
Along with the announcement, Netflix released a video stitching together previously seen footage with TikToks and social media posts from fans eager to revisit the upper crust of Regency-era London.
The Shondaland series will jump right into Penelope Featherington (Nicola Coughlan) and Colin Bridgerton’s (Luke Newton) romance in Season 3, diverting from the Julia Quinn books it’s based on. Meanwhile, Penelope will have to deal with her rift with Eloise Bridgerton (Claudia Jessie), who, according to Netflix’s description, has found a new friend in an unlikely place. With a growing presence in the ton, Penelope is challenged with keeping her Lady Whistledown alter ego under wraps.

Will Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story return for Season 2 on Netflix? Here's what we think the future may hold.
After finding great success in Regency-era romance Bridgerton across its first two seasons, Netflix expanded the world with its first spin-off in Summer 2023, Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story.
The show covered two tales taking place across two periods, loosely based on the story of British monarch King George III and his wife Queen Charlotte.

Women in late-Victorian England are expected to wave gently, smile politely, and follow their husband’s orders. They’re not expected to splash around in neighboring lakes, shotgun glasses of champagne or uncross their legs in elaborate ballgowns, like the five American girls in Apple TV+’s The Buccaneers. Audiences will likely compare the 8-episode series to Netflix’s Bridgerton, as the women search for love and high-ranking titles. The trailer alone explodes with royal balls, suffocating corset gowns, and star-crossed romance.

It’s a truth universally acknowledged that once a fresh new television show becomes a hit, Hollywood will try and replicate it over and over, with largely diminishing returns. So it's unsurprising that after Bridgerton became a global phenomenon, we got a Queen Charlotte spin-off, The Gilded Age, and new adaptations of Dangerous Liaisons, Persuasion, and Mr. Malcolm’s List. All feature diverse casts in period stories, decked out in lavish costumes and peering lustfully at one another.

PinkPantheress’ priorities couldn’t be more in order. Her commitment to the early 2000s aesthetic led her to channel the romantic comedies of that time in the music video for her latest single “Mosquito.” But instead of yearning for the affection of men with deeply hit-or-miss haircuts, she went with the more obvious win: those shopping sprees the protagonist and her friends always seemed to have endless funds for.
PinkPantheress stars in the nostalgia-drenched video alongside Bridgerton actress Charithra Chandran, Queen Charlotte star India Amarteifio, and Black-ish lead Yara Shahidi.

It’s impossible to go a day on the internet without interacting with a robot.
Algorithms dominate the World Wide Web and advertisers are fond of using them to discern exactly what consumers are looking to buy. Few algorithms are as sophisticated, however, as streaming titan Netflix’s. Perhaps you may have noticed, but the thumbnail images for content on your Netflix account frequently differ from those on your friends and family’s. In fact, a thumbnail for a particular TV show on movie may change on your own account from day-to-day, seemingly depending on your mood.
That’s because Netflix, like all online enterprises, has a vested interest in giving you exactly what you want to see. As detailed in this helpful rundown, since 2015 Netflix has put its algorithm to work analyzing its users’ viewing habits and curating imagery that will appeal to them. The new biographical drama “Golda” features Helen Mirren in a transformative role as Golda Meir, the so-called “Iron Lady of Israel” who faced high-stakes responsibilities and decisions during the Yom Kippur War. Written by Nicholas Martin and directed by Guy Nattiv, the Bleecker Street contender is Mirren’s first big play at a potential Academy Award nomination in many years, so let’s look back at her four Oscar races.
With a career in film going back to the 1960s, Mirren saw her first Oscar nomination in 1994 in the Best Supporting Actress category for her performance in “The Madness of King George.” Directed by Nicholas Hytner, this biographical comedy-drama tells the story of King George III and how his Lieutenants tried to adjust the rules to run the country after he went mad. This story about “Queen Charlotte” costume designers Lyn Paolo and Laura Frecon first appeared in the Down to the Wire: Drama and Limited Series issue of TheWrap’s awards magazine.
What would a Met Ball with a Georgian theme look like? That was the inspiration behind Lyn Paolo and Laura Frecon’s costumes for Netflix’s “Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story.” Shonda Rhimes’ spinoff of the hit Regency-era drama series straddles both that period, when Queen Charlotte (Golda Rosheuvel) bore the public weight of the Crown, and 56 years earlier, when she (India Amarteifio) married King George (Corey Mylchreest) and adjusted to life as a royal.
For the later timeline, set in 1817, Paolo and Frecon honored the style established by “Bridgerton” costume designer Ellen Mirojnick: high-waisted, fluid gowns influenced by ancient Greece and Rome. For the 1761-set portion, they went back to the conical shape, when women were tightly cinched...

Throughout the respective seasons of The Crown and Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story, the audience watches two royal women, Princess Diana and Charlotte, take charge of their narratives. Their evolution also is visible in their hair.
Diana’s hair grows out from her iconic crop in the fifth season of the Netflix drama, eventually getting sleeker and more glamorous as she liberates herself from her marriage to Prince Charles. “For me, that evolution is of someone who is taking her independence and realizing her own value, her star value and what she was doing,” says The Crown hair designer Cate Hall. “She sort of looked like a film star by the end of that period.” It coincides with a change in hairdressing: “Her hair was silkier. Everything looked more glossy.”
Meanwhile, elsewhere on Netflix, the young Charlotte goes from confused newcomer in the court of George III to a powerful figure,...

As fans campaign for a second season of "Queen Charlotte," we're still reeling from season one's incredible performances, namely Arsema Thomas's impressive portrayal of Lady Agatha Danbury. In "Bridgerton," Lady Danbury is an established noblewoman with a reputation for being a natural leader. In the spinoff, however, viewers catch a glimpse at her early life as an aristocrat, including her friendship with Queen Charlotte (India Amarteifio), her complex relationship with Lord Danbury (Cyril Nri), and her beginnings as one of the most trusted - and feared - members of the ton.
For Thomas, the prospect of playing such a well-established and beloved character was "extremely scary." But that only made her more eager to do the character justice. "As an actor, you rarely get such a complex and challenging character to play, also specifically as a Black woman," she tells Popsugar.

Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story, a prequel spin-off of the popular Netflix series Bridgerton, tells the story of Queen Charlotte and King George III, a plotline that was hinted at in Season 2 of the parent show. The prequel explores the origin of a young Charlotte (India Amarteifio) during her arranged marriage to George (Corey Mylchreest).
As a Bridgerton series, the central love story, including the sex scenes, is the most important. Amarteifio and Mylchreest said that creating the chemistry between the two characters went smoothly as the royals’ relationship gradually transformed as the show progressed. At first, they only had sex on even days for the sole purpose of creating an heir. But as they grow closer, their relationship becomes more intimate.
Mylchreest thanked intimacy coordinators Lucy Fennell and Lizzie Talbot for their work, noting that Bridgerton had previously received criticism for making gratuitous sex scenes.

Glastonbury Festival is officially back for another year! From Wednesday, June 21, to Sunday, June 25, festivalgoers are descending upon the fields of Somerset for days of camping, partying, hanging out with friends, and, of course, watching live performances from artists across all generations. While the weather is set to play ball and keep the sun shining, those attending will be donning their best summer festival outfits - and that includes celebrities.
We've already seen the likes of Maisie Williams, "Queen Charlotte"'s India Amarteifio, and Lily James don their best boho looks for the occasion, while attendees were treated to a surprise performance on the Pyramid Stage on Friday afternoon. Fans had been speculating about who the mystery set would be from, as it was held on the Glastonbury bill under the alias The Churnups, and much to fans' delight, it turned out to be the Foo Fighters. As the band were met with rapturous applause,...

Just last May, the world got to experience a real-life coronation when King Charles ascended to the throne. Over on Shondaland’s new Netflix series “Queen Charlotte: A Bridgeton Story,” there was a coronation too that needed to take place, and it was up to production designer David Ingram to create one.
When it came to pulling off Queen Charlotte’s (played by India Amarteifio) coronation, Ingram considers it fortunate that the show was shot in the U.K. “We could get the carriage,” Ingram says, stressing it was a replica one. “We could hire it and adapt it. We were able to reupholster it and repaint it.”
But the golden carriage was the least of his problems. The challenge was how to approach Westminster Abbey, traditionally used for real coronations, weddings and funerals, about how to shoot the scene.

Editor’s note: Deadline’s It Starts on the Page features standout drama series scripts in 2023 Emmy contention. It showcases the critical role writers’ work plays in a show’s success. Arrangements were made before the WGA strike began on May 2.
After two massively successful seasons that are among Netflix’s most popular of all time, Shonda Rhimes expanded the world of Shondaland’s Bridgerton with the prequel Queen Charlotte. The six-episode series debuted to similar success, amassing an impressive 459M hours viewed in its first 28 days.
While Bridgerton is based on Julia Quinn’s novels, Queen Charlotte draws inspiration from the real-life love story of King George III and Charlotte of Mecklenburg-Strelitz. The tale begins with an arranged marriage, which evolves into an unwavering bond as Charlotte uncovers George’s struggles with mental illness.
