Way back in 2010 a new horror anthology called Paris, I'll Kill You was announced. At the time it had a pretty impressive roster of directors on board: Joe Dante (Gremlins) Xavier Gens (Frontieres) Ryuhei Kitamura (Midnight Meat Train) Julien Maury and Alexandre Bustillo (Inside) Vincenzo Natali (Cube) Paco Plaza ([Rec]) Christopher Smith (Triangle) That is a mighty lineup of cool creatives from all over the globe, each with an undeniable knack for the horror genre. It's too bad, then, that this version of the movie never came to pass. Original producer Darryn Welch hasn't given up on the idea of a Paris-centric anthology, though. He's still trying to get it off the ground with a truncated set of directors and a new title: Fear Paris. Ahead of...

After movies like V/H/S and The ABCs of Death, I’m all for horror anthologies abiding by a particular theme. There’s something inherently fun about such a cornucopia of treats, as different directors populate one single film with so many distinctive styles and traits – as long as the segments set the stage for such fun. I’ll always give a horror anthology a try, from Chillerama to The Theatre Bizarre, which is why I’m happy to say we’ve got an exciting anthology coming our way with Fear Paris.
Newly announced, Fear Paris will join the likes of Joe Dante (Gremlins), Xavier Gens (Hitman/Frontier(s)), and Timo Vuorensola (Iron Sky), as they explore the horrific underworld of France’s iconic capital city. Here’s the full press release, accompanied by a tonal teaser below:

Huston, best known as the half-masked assassin in Boardwalk Empire, plays a struggling artist whose artwork skyrockets in value when he is mistakenly thought to have killed himself. The artist decides to keep up the charade by pretending to be his own brother, but the entire plan is put in jeopardy when he befriends an enthusiastic reporter (Marling) who begins to show him the real value of life and art. Wang also wrote the film. The producers are Bernadette Bürgi, Marco Mehlitz Cole Payne, Darryn Welch, Skady Lis and Janet Yang. Both actors have momentum. For a low seven figures, Anchor Bay has picked up U.S. rights to Xavier Gens' post-apocalyptic thriller The Divide.
We were the first site to post a review of the film after its premier at SXSW 2011 and lavish all kinds of love upon it, so for anyone now dying to see it I'd say the quick sale is good news as you can bet Anchor Bay aren't going to keep this title locked up in a bomb shelter for long.
When I spoke briefly with producer Darryn Welch, he had this to say about the reaction to the film's first screening. "[It was] extremely positive. I overheard some of the public that attended saying they were officially fans of this movie and then we had very strong feedback from distributors who attended too. Exclusive:They saved the best for last on the final movie day of the South By Southwest Festival. In the biggest deal of SXSW this year and possibly ever for the Austin fest, Anchor Bay paid low seven figures for U.S. rights to the Xavier Gens-directed genre thriller The Divide. Sadly, the message doesn't get picked up unless one goes through multiple watchings of this DVD release, and afterwards, one spends time thinking about just what went on?
The plot seems simple enough. The attractive girlfriend, Georgie (Natassia Malthe) wants to meet David Dunsmore's (Sam Page) paternal side of the family. Several high profile genre directors have signed on for the thriller spoof and potential franchise launcher "Paris I'll Kill You" says The Hollywood Reporter.
Joe Dante ("The Hole," "Gremlins"), Julien Maury and Alexandre Bustillo ("Inside"), Xavier Gens ("Hitman," "Frontière(s)"), Christopher Smith ("Creep," "Severance"), Paco Plaza ("[Rec]"), Vincenzo Natali ("Splice"), Ryûhei Kitamura ("Midnight Meat Train") and Joern Heitmann will film a total of ten ten-minute segments for the anthology feature.
The film mimics the structure of, and hopes to follow the success of "Paris, je t'aime", the romance anthology feature which led to plans for a franchise with each entry set around a different city - New York, Shanghai and Jerusalem thus far are planned.
'Kill' will look at the "seedy underbelly" in the City of Love, and if successful will similarly set subsequent films in different cities around the globe. Darryn Welch and Mathieu Robinet will produce.

Horror anthology films used to be a common sight in Us theaters with films like Creepshow, Twilight Zone: The Movie, Cat’s Eye, and others scaring and entertaining audiences with short tales of terror, but somewhere along the line they disappeared. Asian filmmakers still crank them out (ex. Phobia, Three Extremes), but Us audiences have been unable to catch one in theaters for many years now. Trick ‘r’ Treat came close… but we all know how that turned out. Well things may be about to change for the better… Paris, I Kill You is scheduled for production next year, and the film will consist of ten story segments exploring the horrific underbelly of the city of love. Several directors have already signed on including Joe Dante (Gremlins), Alexandre Bustillo & Julien Maury (Inside), Xavier Gens (Frontiers), Joern Heitmann (Rammstein), Ryuhei Kitamura (Midnight Meat Train), Vincenzo Natali (Splice), Paco Plaza (Rec), and Christopher Smith (Severance). This sounds too good to be true. THR reports that a new anthology horror project is coming together called Paris, I'll Kill You, spoofing the anthology flick Paris, Je T'aime. The best part about it is the line-up of filmmakers they've gathered: genre masters Joe Dante (Germlins), Paco Plaza ([Rec]) Vincenzo Natali (Splice), Xavier Gens (Hitman) & Ryuhei Kitamura (Midnight Meat Train). Additionally, Christopher Smith (Creep), French duo Julien Maury & Alexandre Bustillo (Inside), German music video director Joern Heitmann will direct segments of the film, described as a look at the seedy underbelly of the city of love. Instinctive Film and Reverence are producing Paris, I'll Kill You with Darryn Welch and Mathieu Robinet. The film is being produced independently and sold at various upcoming film markets, so we expect to see this hit a festival before it arrives in theaters. The producers are pitching Paris, I'll Kill You as ...

In a bid to resurrect the horror anthology, a cadre of genre directors have signed on to helm segments of Paris, I’ll Kill You, a playful and bloody spin on the art house love fest Paris, je t’aime.
THR reports the project, which is being produced by Instinctive Film and Reverence, will feature shorts by Joe Dante (Gremlins), Paco Plaza ([Rec]) Vincenzo Natali (Splice) who helmed the vampire piece, “Quartier de la Madeleine” of Paris, je t’aime [see below], Xavier Gens (Hitman), Ryuhei Kitamura (The Midnight Meat Train), Christopher Smith (Triangle), the directing duo Julien Maury and Alexandre Bustillo (A L’Interieur) and German music video director Joern Heitmann.
While anthologies are always hit or miss by nature, this mix of directors has me optimistic as several of them have helmed enjoyable movies that challenged the boundaries of the horror genre. Dante’s directed fun flicks that blend comedy and horror in the suburbs,...

Lightning EntertainmentLightning Entertainment and Phase 4 Films will deliver another shocker December 14th. The film is called Slave and the plotline follows a shady Arabian businessman, who is building a modern day harem. Slave is reportedly based on "actual events" (Lightning), but from some initial research there is no way to confirm this. However, the film's DVD artwork has been released and is seen left. As well, there is an external trailer available for this Instinctive Film (Night Train) production. Have a look at all the details here, until a review is published on this title in a couple weeks.
The synopsis for Slave is here:
"When David’s (Sam Page) fiancé Georgie (Natassia Malthe) is kidnapped whilst on a vacation in Spain, she becomes the trophy of a dangerous and masochistic psychopath known as the White Arab (David Gant). She has been taken to The Boat, a floating pleasure palace...

French helmer Xavier Gens, who spilled buckets of blood in "Frontiere(S)", is set to direct "The Fallout" next for ContentFilm International. Plot details are scant at this time, however, the project is set against the backdrop of a post-apocalyptic New York and carries shades of "Assault On Precinct 13" and "Lord Of The Flies". The story was scripted by Karl Mueller who also penned "Shelter", a project ShockTillYouDrop.com last reported on in 2007. Ross Dinerstein, Darryn Welch and Tony Krantz (of the direct-to-dvd Raw Feed series and "Otis") will produce. Gens recently shepherded the upcoming zombie film "The Horde". While it isn’t a surprise to hear how I feel about some of the issues that befell Xavier Gens’ first endeavor into American cinema (Hitman), I haven’t really spoken on the director himself. There was much potential in Hitman, and it certainly gave us a handful of inspired shots, but, as a whole, it didn’t even feel like a master editor could have saved the film from heading towards the trainwreck it eventually caused. Frontiere(S) was also a film with much potential that fell short. Though it didn’t fall off the cliff as hard as Hitman, the reasoning being the studio involved in the two projects, it still wasn’t a superb, horror film, and it was clearly at the bottom of the list of the wave of French horror films that hit our shores a year or two back.
So, needless to say, it...

The wonderfully sick mind behind Frontière(s), Xavier Gens, is set to return to the genre (sort of) for The Fallout, a post-apocalyptic thriller set in a futuristic New York City. Unlike his adaptation of the Eidos video game Hitman, this one isn’t an adaptation of the long-running RPG series of the same name.
Screen Daily reports that producer Ross Dinerstein stated, "Xavier’s vision for this film is extraordinary. He brings a visual edge to this fascinating exploration of the human condition."
The film is a mixture of Assault on Precinct 13 and Lord of the Flies. "With a collective of ‘End of the World’ movies hitting the theatres presently, this film will undoubtedly stand out like a ravenous Pit Bull in a school playground… brace yourselves cause this film has a serious bite to it!” said producer Darryn Welch.

The same year that Inside took me to horror heaven at the Toronto International Film Festival, Xavier Gens' Frontier(s) was also delivering infinite gory bliss. After getting behind the camera for Hitman and producing the lackluster (ok, abomination) The Horde, Gens is returning to the directors chair with The Fallout. On the eve of the Afm, ContentFilm International has taken worldwide sales rights to action thriller The Fallout to be directed by Xavier Gens (Hitman). The film is due is due to start principal photography in Feb 2010 in Eastern Europe, reports Screen Daily. The Fallout, set in a post-apocalyptic New York, is produced by Ross Dinerstein (The Killing Room, Powder Blue, Unknown), Darryn Welch (Goal! The Dream Begins,The Bang Bang Club, Stag Night), and Tony Krantz (24, Mulholland Drive) and was written by Karl Mueller and Eron Sheean who will also co produce.

There's been a rumor for ages now that a movie version of Fallout, the massively popular video game, would be getting made soon. Because, well, duh-- it's popular and a video game, so the movie can't be far behind. But even though Hitman director Xavier Gens has a new movie coming up called The Fallout, it doesn't seem to have anything to do with the video game, Yeah, I see a name change coming. Screen Daily reports that production will start in Eastern Europe next spring, where they will recreate a post-apocalyptic New Yorkand let a bunch of dudes run around shooting each other there. Xavier Gens went from busting out of the horror film with Frontier(s) (yay!) to making Hitman (yeesh). The movie-making biz ain't easy, but at least Gens is getting back to where he belongs. ScreenDaily reports that Gens will be making the post-apocalyptic thriller The Fallout next February in Eastern Europe, which will naturally fill in for New York.
Written by Karl Mueller and Eron Sheean, The Fallout is described as "a thriller that combines elements of Assault on Precinct 13 with Lord of the Flies in a story of survival." So wait, everyone gets trapped in a police precinct but no one can talk unless they're holding the conch?
Say "post-apocalyptic" and we think "zombie." It's not unnatural to assume so, especially when producer Darryn Welch says something like this: "With a collective of "end of the world" movies hitting the theatres presently, this film will undoubtedly stand out...
