It's a busy old time for Paul Walter Hauser – with good reason, since he's been putting in excellent, memorable and award-winning performances in a variety of films and shows. He's now attached to another big title, joining Liam Neeson in the cast of Paramount's new spin on The Naked Gun.
The 1988 original saw David Zucker, brother Jerry, Jim Abrahams and co-writer Pat Proft turn their short-lived comedy series Police Squad! into a movie. It was an instant comedy hit, Leslie Nielsen's iconic central performance cementing his transformation from dramatic actor to comedy legend as Detective Frank Drebin.
Two sequels followed to diminishing returns (though there are still good gags to be enjoyed in both), but we started to hear rumours of a remake in development years ago. Despite being one of the most recognizable animated sitcoms on TV, Patrick Warburton revealed that his parents have always absolutely hated “Family Guy” — so much so, that his mother once tried to cancel the show entirely.
“They hate it even more today than they did 25 years ago,” Warburton said in front of a crowd at PaleyFest on Friday.
The panel — which also included creator Seth MacFarlane, Alex Borstein, Seth Green, Mila Kunis, Arif Zahir, Jennifer Tilly and showrunners Rich Appel and Alec Sulkin — was discussing their favorite moments from the show’s 22 seasons on Fox. That’s when Warburton admitted that his family’s spiritual values don’t quite align with the content featured in the adult cartoon.
“You come from a fairly religious family. Are they all huge ‘Family Guy’ fans?” Appel asked initially, which led Warburton to recall his childhood growing up in a devout Christian household.
“Thomas Merton was [my Dad’s] spiritual advisor,...

“Family Guy” creator and executive producer Seth MacFarlane shared insight at PaleyFest on whether or not the Griffin family will ever make it to the big screen in a full-length feature film. The show’s cast also brought the house down Friday with a live table read of upcoming episode “The Edible Arrangement” and nine performances of musical classics from the series as the show celebrates its 25th anniversary.
Without giving too much of the goodness away, the episode the cast did a table read for — written by Travis Bowe — is titled “The Edible Arrangement.” It’s centered on Lois and Stewie bonding after consuming a few of Brian’s weed-infused gummies. The episode features the first time Lois has ever heard Stewie talk, which provides Stewie with the perfect opportunity to tell her all about his old plot to murder her.

"Familly Guy" is more than a show at this point. 25 years into its long run on television, it's a straight-up, locked-in part of the larger pop culture fabric. It's similar to "The Simpsons" in that way. But as the show is in the midst of its 22nd season, with a 23rd on the way, are we getting close to wrapping it up with the Griffin family? Creator Seth MacFarlane certainly doesn't seem to think there is any good reason to end it any time soon.
The Los Angeles Times recently caught up with MacFarlane, as well as the showrunners and members of the cast, to celebrate 25 years of "Family Guy." MacFarlane, who voices a number of characters on the show including Peter, Stewie, and Quagmire, among others, was asked whether he believes the show could run for another 25 years. After some back and forth, the animation guru explained that there...

Oh, God. The enfant terrible of animated comedies is delivering unto us a Season 22 finale of biblical proportions. Because after Family Guy’s near-quarter of a century on the air, nothing is sacred! “I never thought I’d hear myself say this as a writer,” confesses Richard Appel, a showrunner alongside Alec Sulkin, “but the Standards and Practices department at Fox is easy to work with and pretty good with us.” Due in part to the sheer success of the cartoon, as well as its consistent ability to push the envelope without inspiring boycotts (anymore), Guy has gotten away with decades of gags other shows wouldn’t dare to attempt—like tonight’s trip back to the days of Jesus. A travesty, you say? Even the respected drama The Chosen has a sense of humor—witness its Jesus (Jonathan Roumie) cracking jokes! The episode kicks off with Brian the dog...

To celebrate the release of A Million Ways to Die in the West on Blu-Ray and DVD from 12 February 2024, we are giving away 2 Blu-Rays to 2 lucky winners!
A Million Ways to Die in the West was directed by Emmy Award winning Family Guy creator Seth McFarlane and written alongside his collaborators on stoner fantasy comedy Ted and Ted 2 – Alec Sulkin and Wellesley Wild. The film stars an ensemble cast including MacFarlane, Charlize Theron, Amanda Seyfried, Neil Patrick Harris, Giovanni Ribisi, Sarah Silverman, and Liam Neeson with cameo appearances from Ewan McGregor and Ryan Reynolds.
In Arizona 1882 nothing comes easy in the bitterly unforgiving Old West except dying. Albert (Seth MacFarlane) is a soft man in hard times who really doesn’t fit in. Created by David Zucker, Jim Abrahams, and Jerry Zucker, the TV series Police Squad! only ran for six episodes back in 1982, but it spawned a popular film franchise that so far consists of three films: The Naked Gun: From the Files of Police Squad!, The Naked Gun 21⁄2: The Smell of Fear, and Naked Gun 331⁄3: The Final Insult, all three of which had Pat Proft on board as a screenwriter. When it was announced that a straight-to-video sequel called The Naked Gun 4: Rhythm of Evil was moving ahead in 2009 with none of the original creative team involved, that original creative team didn’t react well. That movie didn’t make it into production, but now that a reboot of The Naked Gun is moving forward at Paramount with Akiva Schaffer set to direct the film from a screenplay by Dan Gregor, Doug Mand, Mark Hentemann, Alec Sulkin, and producer Seth MacFarlane,...

"Family Guy" has been on the air for nearly 25 years (with a couple of brief breaks in the early days) with 400 episodes -- and counting -- to its name. The show has become such a staple of television at this point that it's hard to picture pop culture without it. In all of the years of adventures with Brian and Stewie, cutaway gags, and buffoonery with Peter, few things have ever made as much of an impact as the "Star Wars" parody episodes. Dubbed the "Laugh It Up, Fuzzball" trilogy, the episodes parodied George Lucas' original trilogy in a fashion that was both hilarious and loving. For those looking to revisit these gems, we're here to give you a very easy viewing guide.
It may seem a bit silly, but in the vast cavern that is streaming television, it can be a little bit annoying to search endlessly for what...

American Dad directors and creatives stepped in for voiceover cast and key creatives today on San Diego Comic-Con to tease the upcoming season on TBS. The session kicked off with Innerspace parodied episode airing on Sept. 4, in which Francine, Stan’s wife, shrinks down into a small spaceship and takes a ride through Stan’s body; a battle with spiders ensues.
Asked about the Christmas episode this year, director Brent Woods said that Santa is making an appearance as Stan’s family is “transported into a different place, we have fun with them looking like CGI animation.”
One fan asked if B12, the boy band which was assembled by Snot’s uncle. That’s still Tbd.
Another fan raised the question to the panel today in Ballroom 20 as to how the show deals with the network’s standards and practices.

The WGA Writers Strike has officially begun and the picket lines have formed across Hollywood and New York City. This halt means that many scripted projects will inevitably go dark, resulting in a Hollywood shutdown not seen since Covid, and not felt since the last WGA strike took place 15 years ago. Variety will keep readers updated with a rolling list of everything that has been put on hold as a result of the strike, which went into effect Tuesday. For more information about the strike, check out Variety’s Faq primer on what it means for the industry.
Update: “Family Guy” and “American Dad” updates added.
Late-night Shows Go Dark. ABC’s “Jimmy Kimmel Live,” CBS’ “The Late Show,” and NBC’s “Tonight” and “Late Night” are all going on hiatus and repeats will be shown. HBO will also cease live production of “Real Time with Bill Maher” and “Last Week Tonight” with John Oliver.

Nobody could possibly top the late comedy legend Leslie Nielsen and his performance in the classic 1988 film "The Naked Gun," but when has a little thing like that ever stopped this industry from trying anyway? With several recent legacy sequels and reboots proving successful at the box office in the post-pandemic landscape, Paramount is moving forward with yet another one of their own. Renowned among viewers of a certain vintage for its slapstick, laugh-a-minute joys that rival the likes of "Airplane!" or "Monty Python and the Holy Grail," the original "The Naked Gun" is now being brought back with with actor Liam Neeson negotiating to star.
This news comes courtesy of Deadline, which reports that "The Lonely Island" veteran Akiva Schaffer is on board to direct the project alongside screenwriters Dan Gregor and Doug Mand ("Chip 'n Dale: Rescue Rangers"), both of whom are taking over for previous draft writers Mark Hentemann and Alec Sulkin.

Stepping into the exceedingly dry shoes of Leslie Nielsen is no small matter, but Liam Neeson is going to give it a shot with a new Naked Gun reboot. Hollywood has been attempting to reboot the franchise for a number of years, with Ed Helms (The Office) once slated to play Detective Frank Drebin, but Deadline has reported that Paramount Pictures is officially moving forward with a new Naked Gunn reboot directed by Akiva Schaffer and that Liam Neeson is in negotiations to star.
Dan Gregor and Doug Mand, who wrote Akiva Schaffer’s Chip n Dale: Rescue Rangers movie, have also closed a deal to pen the script for The Naked Gun reboot. The previous draft was written by Mark Hentemann & Alec Sulkin. Schaffer will also executive produce the reboot, with Seth MacFarlane and Erica Huggins producing through their Fuzzy Door production banner. Plot details about the reboot are...

Exclusive: One of Hollywood’s classic slapstick comedy franchises is looking to make its way back to the big screen. Sources tell Deadline that Paramount Pictures is moving forward with a new Naked Gun reboot, with Liam Neeson is in negotiations to star and Akiva Schaffer set to direct. While no greenlight has been given, sources say its headed in that direction once a deal closes for Neeson.
Dan Gregor and Doug Mand, who just worked with Schaffer on the Emmy-winning Chip ‘n Dale: Rescue Rangers pic, also closed a deal to pen the script. Mark Hentemann & Alec Sulkin wrote the previous draft. Schaffer also will exec produce. Seth MacFarlane and Erica Huggins are producing via their company Fuzzy Door.
Plot details are being kept under wraps except that Neeson might be playing the son of Detective Frank Drebin instead of stepping into the role made famous by Leslie Nielsen.

As “Family Guy” heads into its 21st season on Sunday, executive producers and showrunners Alec Sulkin and Rich Appel shared details behind the series’ upcoming 400th episode. “Family Guy” continues to bring a satirical eye to its scenarios, and in the anniversary episode, the show will take a deep dive into social media’s obsessive fan — a.k.a. “stan” — culture.
Episode 400, which is expected to arrive in November, follows Stewie (voiced by Seth MacFarlane) as he becomes a crazed fan of a famous pop star. That obsession takes him to some hilariously wild lengths. It was MacFarlane, who knows a thing or two about having outspoken fans, who first pitched the idea to producers.
“That’s not a story that would have even occurred to us to tell five years ago, that phenomenon of fans of artists like Taylor Swift and Selena Gomez — you name them — who are just really so devoted,...

Seth MacFarlane and the “Family Guy” producers have created an educational PSA video encouraging people to get the Covid-19 vaccine.
In the three-minute video, Peter Griffin debates whether or not to get vaccinated at the doctor’s office, so Stewie and Brian Griffin explain the science behind the Covid vaccine, combining typical “Family Guy” humor and real educational facts.
Stewie and Brian shrink down microscopically to enter Peter’s body, where they explain how the vaccine combats the virus.
“Vaccines protect us from illnesses by activating our immune response without the danger of actual infection, thereby training the body to fight off the real thing. Some of the Covid vaccines work by exposing your immune system to proteins, which resemble the spike proteins of the virus but cannot infect you,” Stewie says, as anthropomorphic antibodies fight off spike proteins that look like Meg Griffin. Seth MacFarlane and Fox’s “Family Guy” team want you to understand how the Covid-19 vaccine works so badly that they sent Stewie and Brian inside Peter’s body to show you.
The new three-minute short, which you can view above, was written by the “Family Guy” writers in collaboration with MacFarlane and a team of scientific experts and epidemiologists. It’s intended to “educate, entertain and encourage the millions of unvaccinated citizens around the globe to feel confident getting vaccinated against Covid-19.”
Described as “part ‘Schoolhouse Rock,’ part educational film from high school science class, but told with all the irreverence and hilarity for which ‘Family Guy’ is known,” the PSA shows Peter Griffin (voiced by MacFarlane) at the doctor’s office debating getting the shot, when Stewie (also MacFarlane) and Brian teleport inside his body and explain how vaccines work before Peter gets the shot from Dr. Hartman.

Family Guy‘s entire catalog of past seasons soon will be available only on Disney-owned networks and platforms. Beginning on Sept. 20, comedy-focused Fxx and corporate sibling Freeform will become the exclusive cable homes to the series’ reruns from Seasons 1-19. Hulu continues to be the exclusive Family Guy streaming platform.
In a competitive situation, FX Networks in 2019 landed off-network rights to Family Guy, starting with its 16th (2017-18) season, also shared with Freeform. At the time, the older seasons of Seth Macfarlane’s animated hit remained on Adult Swim/TBS. The show now will permanently leave its longtime cable home on the Turner networks.
Additionally, as part of the ongoing efforts to bring the libraries of all signature Disney-produced series under the Disney umbrella, Fxx has nabbed non-exclusive rights to animated series Futurama, which will join the network in November. (It is unclear whether Futurama will leave Syfy at that...

Peacock has given a straight-to-series order to Ted, a live-action comedy series based on Seth MacFarlane’s hit 2012 movie, from UCP and MRC Television.
MacFarlane is in negotiations to reprise the voice of the lovable foul-mouthed teddy bear. MacFarlane and Erica Huggins will executive produce through MacFarlane’s Fuzzy Door. The project stems from MacFarlane’s blockbuster overall deal with UCP.
For now, there are no plans for the film’s Mark Wahlberg and Mila Kunis to appear in the series, which is expected to be a prequel to the 2012 movie.
MRC Films and Universal Pictures’ Ted, directed by MacFarlane in his feature helming debut and written by MacFarlane, Alec Sulkin and Wellesley Wild, starred Wahlberg and Kunis, with MacFarlane providing the voice and motion capture of the title character.
The film tells the story of John Bennett (Wahlberg), a Boston native whose childhood wish brings his teddy bear friend Ted to life.

Arif Zahir knows he’s living a bit of a Cinderella story: The aspiring young actor has gone from impersonating the “Family Guy” character Cleveland Brown on YouTube to starring as the character’s voice actor starting next season.
“It doesn’t seem real,” said Zahir, who officially landed the gig last month, as “Family Guy” was renewed for its 19th and 20th seasons. “My mama almost had a heart attack when I told her!”
When the “Family Guy” producers first emailed Zahir about auditioning to take over as the voice of Cleveland Brown, the young YouTube star thought it was a joke. Zahir said he was convinced that “Family Guy” would retire the character after Mike Henry, who originated the role, stepped down in June. (Henry joined several white performers on animated series who have agreed to no longer voice characters of color.)

Sunday’s Family Guy premiere attempted to answer a question fans have been asking since 1999: Who can understand Stewie?
The issue arose after Stewie loudly dropped the F-bomb in the middle of church. It was a natural response to hearing that Chewy Chips Ahoy cookies weren’t being served at coffee hour, but the time and place (and pretty much everything else) made it a less-than-ideal first word.

Emmy-nominated writer/producer Wellesley Wild (Family Guy) has signed an exclusive, multi-year overall deal with Warner Bros. Animation, marking the first major producer deal for the Studio.
Under the pact, Wild will develop, write and produce new animated projects — for both adult, kid and family audiences — at Wba across all platforms, including premium/pay and basic cable channels, streaming/on-demand and digital platforms, and the broadcast networks. While the focus of Wild’s deal will be animation, the deal also encompasses the other scripted programming divisions of the Warner Bros. Television Group — such as Warner Bros. Television, Warner Horizon Scripted Television and digital venture Blue Ribbon Content — for Wild to develop, write and produce original live-action projects at the Studio.
Warner Bros. Animation President Sam Register said: “From his impressive run on Family Guy to his notable list of credits, Wellesley knows how to produce quality animation and entertain audiences.

Nine months after announcing on-air that it was “trying to phase out” gay jokes, Family Guy offered a clarification of sorts on Sunday.
In the episode, titled “Disney’s The Reboot,” a focus group was assembled to help choose a new direction for the show, now in its 18th season. Following a scene with jokes about Peter’s sexuality, one group member said, “I thought I read you guys were phasing out gay jokes,” to which Peter replied, “That quote was taken out of context and widely misunderstood.”

Every year “Family Guy” mounts the most outrageous (even shocking) Fyc campaigns in order to grab voters’ attention and try to win that long-denied Emmy Award for Best Animated Program. This year’s DVD mailer shows Peter Griffin as a rather chunky, pouty Jon Snow, seated smugly on his Iron Throne under the announcement, “Due to a printing error, if you wish to vote for ‘Game of Thrones,’ please check the ‘Family Guy’ box on the Animation Ballot.”
“Family Guy’s” Emmy campaigns are always timely, in this case because “Thrones” just made its final bow on HBO, of course, but its new Fyc push is relatively tame considering the savage satire sometimes employed on previous campaigns. Last year, for example, at the height of #MeToo mania, Peter appeared on the cover of the DVD mailer under the words, “We predicted Kevin Spacey and Harvey Weinstein. Open DVD to see who’s next.

Family Guy is paying tribute to the late Adam West on tonight’s season 17 finale.
In a preview clip, Brian the dog suggests changing the name of James Woods High School to Adam West High.
At first, the family questions Brian’s proposal. But he states his case by mocking conservative actor Woods and wins everyone over.
“James Woods is an embarrassment to Quahog. He’s a political troll and a maniac on Twitter,” Brian says.
Everyone quickly comes around and Peter says, “I’ll make a special video dedication reminding people of how great Mayor West was.”
The late Batman TV star voiced the role of Mayor West from 2000 until his death in 2017.
As for Woods, last month Twitter locked his account over a tweet the platform considered threatening in nature. The conservative star later said in a statement to The Daily Wire he would no longer be using the platform.

Fox’s Family Guy is waging a battle of Winterfell proportions on time-slot rival and the biggest drama on television, HBO’s Game of Thrones, in its annual Emmy mailer.
After a string of mailers tackling Donald Trump and members of his inner circle as well as the Hollywood sexual harassment scandal, Family Guy surprisingly is going atopical but very zeitgeist-y this year with a shot at Game of Thrones.
On the mailer’s cover, Family Guy‘s designated Emmy pitchman, Peter Griffin, as Jon Snow, sitting on the Iron Throne, notifies TV Academy members, “Due to a printing error, if you wish to vote for Game of Thrones, please check the Family Guy box on the animation ballot.”
Here is how Family Guy showrunners Rich Appel and Alec Sulkin explain the decision to take on Game of Thrones in the mailer, which is timed to go out as the...
