Jean-Claude Van Damme is set to flex his more dramatic muscles in upcoming neo-noir action film Darkness of Man.
The feature — being introduced to buyers at the American Film Market by Vmi Worldwide — comes from director James Cullen Bressack and has been likened to the grittier titles in Van Damme’s impressive library, such as Jcvd and The Bouncer.
No stranger to action stars, having worked with Bruce Willis (Fortress), Mel Gibson (Hot Seat), and Steven Seagal (Beyond the Law), Bressack co-wrote the script with Alethea Cho from an original story he devised alongside Van Damme. Bressack also produces alongside Jarrett Furst.
Set in Los Angeles, Darkness of Man sees the Kickboxer, Bloodsport and Universal Soldier legend play Russell Hatch, an Interpol operative who takes on the role of father figure to Jayden, the son of an informant killed in a routine raid gone wrong.

Like a comet, Randy Rhoads only blazed through the sonic atmosphere for a short time, but musicologists, guitar geeks, and fans continue to study the lingering tail of each of his solos. Tragically killed in a plane crash on March 19, 1982 at the age of 25, his work is most clearly captured on studio recordings as the lead guitarist for Ozzy Osbourne. The new documentary Randy Rhoads: Reflections of a Guitar Icon continues the star gaze, and director Andre Relis (Nwa & Eazy-e: Kings of Compton) examines the influence with academic glee. Rhoads was, at heart, heavy metal’s most transparent guitar teacher.
As the documentary makes clear, Rhoads was still giving lessons when he got the gig with Black Sabbath’s former singer, who hired the young string-master after hearing only a few warmup arpeggios on a practice amp. Rhoads grew up in his mother Dee’s music school, and when he surpassed his guitar teachers,...

Motörhead frontman Lemmy Kilmister, one of the most influential musicians of his generation, is to be given the biopic treatment.
Lemmy, which will take a look under the bass strings of the man, who along with Eddie Clarke and Phil Taylor wrote Ace of Spades, will be directed by Greg Olliver, who helmed the 2010 documentary Lemmy.
It will follow Kilmister’s life growing up in Stoke on Trent, becoming a roadie for Jimi Hendrix and a member of seminal psychedelic rock band Hawkwind before establishing Motörhead. The latter is widely considered to have paved the way for bands such as Metallica, Megadeth and Anthrax as well as Foo Fighters, whose frontman Dave Grohl famously gave a tribute to Lemmy at his funeral.
The film will be taken to Cannes by Vmi Worldwide, whose Andre Relis will produce alongside Damon Lane. The screenplay was written by Medeni Griffiths with additional writing by Greg Olliver.
