New Trailer for The Blackening: "The Blackening centers around a group of Black friends who reunite for a Juneteenth weekend getaway only to find themselves trapped in a remote cabin with a twisted killer. Forced to play by his rules, the friends soon realize this ain’t no motherf****** game. Directed by Tim Story and screenplay and screen story by Tracy Oliver & Dewayne Perkins, The Blackening skewers genre tropes and poses the sardonic question: if the entire cast of a horror movie is Black, who dies first?

From the start, one of Green Lanterns’ greatest qualities has been that the series has pulled no punches when it comes to taking ringslingers in new directions. After all, that’s what made Geoff Johns now legendary run so tremendous, and that’s also why I’ll remember Sam Humphries’ time on the book so fondly.
Furthermore, what makes this title feel so fresh isn’t just the new concepts that are introduced, it’s the characters it centers on, those being Simon Baz and Jessica Cruz. Both having been products of the New 52, they’ve become more fleshed out during Rebirth, with Baz being one of DC’s breakout characters of late. Yes, Johns may have created him, but it’s my belief that Humphries has defined him.

David S. Goyer ("Man Of Steel") and Justin Rhodes continue developing a feature screenplay adapting "Green Lantern Corps", based on DC Comics' 'Green Lantern' series.
Warners will back the new feature, focusing on 'Green Lantern' superheroes 'Hal Jordan' and 'John Stewart', to be produced by Goyer, with DC's Geoff Johns and Jon Berg executive producing.

Although we still have much of June ahead of us and all the awesome comic books that it’ll no doubt bring, it doesn’t hurt to look ahead at what next month will offer. In fact, those of you who love scooping up variant covers will want to pay attention because DC is set to serve up some real eye-catchers with Harley Quinn, Superman, Batman and several others.
First let’s talk about Harley Quinn #23, which features yet another solid effort from Frank Cho. Knowing that Amanda Conner continually brings her A-game each month with her standard covers, it takes a special kind of artist to have a friendly competition with her – and Cho’s recent works have been that damn good. This encapsulation of Harley and Ivy’s friendship just proves that.

Time travel is a tricky mistress in the Marvel Universe, it always has been. No one knows that better than Kang the Conqueror. Black Bolt, (In brand new armored duds!), Triton, and Reader travel to Attilan only to learn that this version of the city exists thirteen thousand years ago. Black Bolt is hush-hush on what exactly the team is doing there when Kang ruins the fun with the revelation Bolt made with him in Uncanny Inhumans #0. In the final moments of Marvel’s rousing panel at Hall H, Marvel chief Kevin Feige brought out Joss Whedon, who showed a very early teaser of the sequel The Avengers and revealed that the film will be called Age Of Ultron with a May 1, 2015 release date. Marvel Comics aficionados might know that the title and the baddie Ultron are the subject of 10-issue limited series comic book crossover storyline published by Marvel Comics that involves the return of Ultron and his conquest of the earth. Ultron and his Sentinels should prove a worthy antagonist for the Avengers and it looked like all will be back though there was no mention of Vin Diesel, who is rumored to be in line to play The Vision. The comic series was published between March and June 2013 and features a storyline by Brian Michael Bendis. Artist Bryan Hitch provided the art for issues one through five,...

Saga Volume 2, trade paperback, Brian K Vaughan, Fiona Staples, Image Comics
This is the first of two trade paperbacks I splurged on this week, though technically I’ve saved money by choosing to follow Saga in trades rather than monthly books. Saga is the uh, saga of a couple from opposing races in a galactic war who have eloped and made a baby. Word of Marko and Alana’s marriage has gotten out and mightily pissed off the leaders of both sides, who have sent various assassins to deal with what they see as an abominable union. The book is narrated from the future by the couple’s child, Hazel and kicks off with Marko’s parents teleporting themselves into the lives of the refugee family.
Brian K Vaughan is a brilliantly talented writer; Runaways is probably my favourite comic series and Y: The Last Man is similarly superlative stuff.

After months of confusing bait ‘n’ switches, time travel anachronisms, and numerous (and it turns out, pointless) superhero deaths, we come to the finale of Marvel’s latest Event with Age of Ultron #10.
Before getting into the issue proper, I’ll say that the way Marvel have hit all of their deadlines on the numerous comics this Event has had in the tight timeframe they gave it, is impressive. Marvel waited until all of the issues had been drawn before they began releasing them and I think all future Events should be done like this – 4 months, knock ‘em out, get it done, no more year-long story arcs or prolonged releases because of missed deadlines. This is the winning formula – publishing-wise that is.

Because of the events and format of this book, it is extremely hard to write about. The last issue and ending of Age of Ultron #10 will be debated about for years to come by Marvel fans. However, I actually enjoyed this issue which finally had a fight with Ultron, some great characterization of Hank Pym, and events that will affect all the Marvel books across the board. There are some weak points, like Alex Maleev’s art clashing with the other pencilers’ and the Angela reveal being a little underwhelming, but I think that Bendis stuck the landing and wrapped up all the main plot points of Age of Ultron while leaving room for developments in future books.

The story so far: Ultron waged war on Earth from the future, sending his drones to conquer the world in our present. In a last ditch attempt to reverse these catastrophic events, a small surviving band of heroes led by Captain America headed into the future to fight Ultron. Wolverine on the other hand had a different idea – go back in time, kill Hank Pym – Ultron’s creator – and change the present that way. No Hank Pym, no Ultron to conquer the world. Sue Storm tagged along with Logan as they travelled to the past, killed Hank Pym, and went back to the present. But of course things are now changed. While there is no Ultron ruling the world, there is a cyborg Tony Stark and his army of Starkbots who now watch, Big Brother-like, over the world. And that’s not all – the Avengers are no more! In...

Writer: Brian Michael Bendis
Artist/Cover: Brandon Peterson
Colorist: Paul Mounts
Publisher: Marvel
Unlike the previous two issues, which struck a nearly perfect balance between action, plot, and characters by focusing on Wolverine and Sue Richards, this issue introduces a whole host of new characters on this alternate earth as well as a new villain for the series. At the end of the last issue, Sue and Wolverine arrive on an alternate earth that is either better or worse than their own Ultron controlled reality. There are some answers in this issue, but even more questions and last minute plot developments.

The Age of Ultron is over! In yet another weird twist, the Event basically ended at issue 6 and, with issue 7, an entirely different story has begun despite still calling itself Age of Ultron. That’s what it feels like anyway with this issue. There were a lot of complaints from readers that this Event seemed completely pointless because none of the major characters killed so far are going to remain dead – complaints that it turns out are totally justified with issue 7 which basically shrugs “yeah, those last 6 issues? Didn’t mean anything because they didn’t happen.” Oh, terrific!
They didn’t happen because Wolverine and Sue Richards travelled back in time to kill Hank Pym, the creator of Ultron, which Logan did successfully. Travelling back to the future, there is of course no more Ultron as his creator was assassinated before he could build him, so the Age of Ultron never happened.

So I think that Age of Ultron has basically become a less extreme Age of Apocalypse for the entire Marvel universe. There are lots of familiar faces in this issue, but they’re not who they seem. Luckily, there is a handy guide to the new incarnations of characters that show up in Age of Ultron #7. Brian Bendis throws some legitimate surprises and plot twists in this chapter of Age of Ultron. He has gone from his earlier work on the series which was a bunch of sitting around and debating ethics with a little splash of action at the end to turning the event into a plot and action-driven albeit with a lot of dialogue. Brandon Peterson’s art is also better suited for this brand of...

In most of Bendis’ better storylines, there is a slow buildup with lots of character bickering and little movements. However, some time around the middle, he picks it up and rewards the reader with a killer payoff, plot twist, or a balls to the wall action sequence. Bendis does all three in this fast paced middle chapter of Marvel’s Age of Ultron event. The last few issues had fighting on the edges of the universe (Luke Cage vs. Ultron/Vision; Black Panther’s death), but this issue introduces a major conflicts and some big developments in one of Marvel’s most beloved characters.

The heroes have gathered in the untouched Savage Land and Nick Fury has come up with a plan – use Doctor Doom’s time platform to head into the future where Ultron is and take him on. As a small group of heroes go off to do just that, Wolverine has a better idea for the time platform – go back in time and kill Hank Pym before he invents Ultron. Sacrifice one to save a billion. But will it work – or make things worse?
Unlike the last issue’s cover, this issue does deliver on its promise of heroes on Ultron action as the future team of Fury, Cap, Red Hulk, Storm and a few others do battle with wave after wave of Ultron heads (apparently in the future Ultron drones are just mega-powerful heads rather than the full body ones sent into the past/our present).

And just like that, it was Sunday, the final day of the con.
I suspect I wasn’t the only one there, who, by the end, almost felt as if they were going through the motions, that feeling of Con fatigue in full effect. My feet hurt, the spectrum of colors blur, comic companies meld, and the idea of sitting down at panels regain its appeal.
Even the atmosphere felt a tad muted, the costumes a bit less ubiquitous and clever, but the throng of fans still thundered along the show floor, squeezing through doors and escalators to get to panels on time or to see their favorite comic book artist.
This afternoon, I spent more time at comic book panels, seeing just one celebrity to finish off the Con.
The first may have been my favorite of the con, entitled “Pitching Creator Owned Comics” or something like that, featuring...

Thanks to our friends over at Comic Book Resources, we have the following inked pencils which are just breathtaking and truly epic in scale.
