Director Jai Mehta has talked about what went into the making of the upcoming thriller series ‘Lootere’. Directed by Jai Mehta, the gripping series follows Rajat Kapoor as the ship captain and his struggle with a criminal legacy.
Mehta said: “We had a process when it came down to setting up tension on screen, we started watching films to understand the shot-taking process and what goes into creating tension on screen; because tension can come in different forms.”
“It can be shown through characters, sound design, camera placement or music so there are lots of ways to bring tension but having 10 characters in one frame, it’s difficult to navigate that tension and make it seem real as well as chaotic at the same time,” he added.
The maker added: “These tense moments are rarely chaotic, they’re more still and quiet so we started going through pictures by photographers...

New Delhi, March 22 (Ians)There may not be anything like an entirely historically accurate film. With liberties taken and not merely tweaked to make incidents more palatable or believable in order to tell a certain story, there could be numerous valid reasons for a storyteller’s dire need to change parts of history.
Unless incidents are altered completely, that may still be explicable or pardonable because contemporary accounts may be coloured by a particular ideology, and isn’t it every director’s prerogative to present his or her point of view? What filmmakers cannot afford to get away with is a shoddy narrative that struggles to stay afloat — or poor acting that fails to strike a chord.

Ae Watan Mere Watan, a fresh take on India’s fight for independence, has become a runaway hit on Amazon Prime Video India, soaring to the coveted number one spot. This historical thriller sheds light on a fascinating, yet often overlooked, aspect of the freedom struggle – the power of underground radio stations.
Sara Ali Khan takes centre stage, portraying a fictional character inspired by the courageous Usha Mehta. During the critical Quit India Movement of 1942, Mehta defied British rule by establishing a clandestine radio station. Through this potent platform, she broadcasted messages of hope and resistance, becoming a major threat to the British Raj.

On Tuesday morning, Donald Trump ally and former White House aide Peter Navarro reported to prison in Miami to serve a four-month prison sentence.
The move came just hours after Supreme Court Chief Justice John G. Roberts denied his appeal of the sentence.
Navarro is the first senior aide to Trump to serve time in association with the plot to overturn the 2020 election.
“I’m pissed. That’s what I’m feeling right now,” Navarro told reporters before entering prison. “But I’m also afraid of only one thing: I’m afraid for this country because this, what they’re doing, should have a chilling effect on every American regardless of their party. They come for me, they can come for you.”
In September 2023, a jury found Navarro guilty of two counts of contempt of Congress.

“Delhi Crime” creator Richie Mehta’s Prime Video series “Poacher” is the first time Los Angeles-based QC Entertainment has ventured into India.
Led by partners Sean McKittrick, Raymond Mansfield and Edward H. Hamm Jr., QC – which stands for Quality Control – backed Jordan Peele’s Oscar-winning “Get Out” and “Us” and Spike Lee’s Oscar, BAFTA and Cannes-winning “BlacKkKlansman,” among many other successful ventures. Set up as a one-stop shop, QC develops, physically produces, finances productions and handles sales and distribution.
Based on true events, Amazon original “Poacher” unearths the largest ivory poaching ring in Indian history. It bowed at Sundance 2023. The process began with Mehta’s agents at Gersh trying to introduce him to producers who had funding and had a reputation for being hands-on and who were transparent and collaborative. On Thursday morning, former Trump White House adviser Peter Navarro was sentenced to four months in prison for two charges of contempt of Congress following his refusal to cooperate with the congressional investigation into the January 6 Capitol riot.
The prosecution has asked U.S. District Judge Amit Mehta to deliver the sentence of six months with a fine of $600,000. Navarro’s counsel asked to have the sentence not exceed six months with a fine of $100,000.
Navarro argued that he did not have to cooperate due to former President Donald Trump‘s executive privilege rights, although Navarro never established that Trump had asserted the privilege in his case.
“The words executive privilege are not magical incantations,” Mehta said. “It’s just not, it’s not a get-out-of-jail-free card. I have a great deal of respect for your client and what he’s achieved professionally, I do. Which makes it all the more disappointing,...

Director Raj Mehta’s professionally packaged comedy hits all the bright, wacky notes, just don’t expect anything more than sheer daftness
After the monumental success of Pathaan, something a little more low-rise. Director Raj Mehta has emerged as Bollywood’s best-placed continuity candidate, landing one of the industry’s last pre-pandemic hits with 2019’s babymaking romp Good Newwz, before resuming with post-lockdown marital farce Jug Jugg Jeeyo. His latest expands upon the 2019 Malayalam hit Driving Licence, with its copper-bottomed premise: a movie star is driven nuts by the superfan schooling him in three-point turns. Another broad, sitcom-bright crowdpleaser, prone to abusing the wacky sound effect button, this latest Mehta comedy has nevertheless been packaged with a professionalism that’s hard to deny.
Crucially, Mehta gets his script right. Regular scribe Rishhabh Sharrma ensures this feud, between unsmiling action hero Vijay Kumar (Akshay Kumar) and moustachioed jobsworth Om Prakash Agarwal...

Bengaluru, Sep 22 (Ians) RazorpayX, the neo-banking arm of fintech platform Razorpay, on Thursday partnered B2B software-as-a-service (SaaS) platform Zaggle to enable employees save up to Rs 40,000 more in tax while adhering to the Income Tax guidelines.
The Flexible Benefits programme will enable businesses to manage all employee tax benefits and perks on a single dashboard, automating the entire process in a hassle-free manner.
RazorpayX Payroll offers a fully automated, three-click salary disbursement solution with built-in compliances.
“We now take it a notch higher by elevating the employee experience via our partnership with Zaggle,” said Shashank Mehta, Vice President and Head of RazorpayX.

I’ve never seen a film to be that red. No, not even Zhang Yimou’s work. Ketan Mehta’s “Mirch Masala” (1986) unfolds patiently, albeit with a gradual spiciness of both visual and dramatic layers. At first, we get to see Sonbai by the river, doing her daily errands. She’s approached by a tyrannical subedar, who’s stroked by her beauty. The desire reaches its climax and the man advances. There won’t be a love story out of this, as Sonbai is married; she refuses the dalliance, blatantly rejecting his offer to sleep with him. A slap on the man’s cheek. Next thing the woman is on the run, fleeing into the spice factory where other women grind the chilies into a refined powder. The rejected ego hurts the most, thus the man threatens to destroy the whole village.

New Delhi, Sep 14 (Ians) The Supreme Court on Wednesday allowed the Board of Control for Cricket in India’s (Bcci) plea in connection with the amendments proposed to its constitution to relax the cooling-off period requirement.
The cooling-off period for office bearers will kick in after two consecutive terms at either the Bcci or at the state association level. The office bearers can now have a maximum of 12 years at one go: two three-year terms at the state association level and two three-year terms at the Bcci, and after this, the cooling-off will be applicable.
Solicitor General Tushar Mehta, representing the Bcci, submitted before a bench of Justices D.Y. Chandrachud and Hima Kohli that clause 6 as approved by the top court indicates that a person who has competed one term at the state cricket association level followed by one term at the Bcci would have to undergo a three-year cooling off period.

New Delhi, Sep 13 (Ians) The Board of Control for Cricket in India (Bcci) on Tuesday told the Supreme Court that the cooling-off period will deprive the cricket of worthy administrators and the country cannot afford to lose experienced individuals, who can take the sport to new heights.
Solicitor General Tushar Mehta, representing the Bcci, submitted before a bench of Justices D.Y. Chandrachud and Hima Kohli that as its constitution exists today, there is a cooling-off period and if a person is an office bearer of state cricket association for one term and Bcci for one term, then that person would have to go for cooling-off.
As the bench queried Mehta that he was saying the cooling-off period will be only for two terms in the Bcci and tenure in state cricket association would not be considered, the Sg, citing the proposed amendments in the constitution, said the concern of...

Thomas Webster, a former NYPD officer who was photographed attacking a Washington, D.C. police officer with a flagpole at the January 6 riots, was sentenced to 10 years in federal prison.
He attempted to deny the claim that he instigated the fight, but the jury ruled that he lied on the stand in May when he said he just wanted the officer to “see my hands” after tackling him.
Webster’s legal team also claimed that he was participating in the violent uprising because of Ptsd “flashbacks” from his career in the police.
However, Judge Amit P. Mehta said he felt that Webster’s former career made the attack “particularly heinous.”
“He feels entitled to do what he wants as a former police officer,” Mehta later added.
The judge also suggested that Webster’s violent behavior caused a domino effect of increased chaos at the Capitol. Webster reportedly broke the police...

Plunkett, 37, recently signed a three-year deal with The Philadelphians in Minor League Cricket (MiLC) in the 2022 edition. MiLC is the feeder to Mlc.
