Although the Shameless actress Katey Sagal now enjoys an envious career, following her appearance in popular television shows, she once faced the common challenge of being typecast in Hollywood. After her iconic role as Peg Bundy on the hit sitcom Married… with Children (1987-1997) cemented her status in Hollywood, the show also confined her to the specific genre of comedy.
Katey Sagal as Peg Bundy on Married… with Children (1987-1997)
While the world considers Katey Sagal a versatile actress with great range, she recalled how Married… with Children typecast her in the industry. Although the show initially came as a blessing, following her 4 months of sobriety, Sagal recalled getting a sinking feeling about her career, as she kept getting repetitive roles after starring as Peg. But eventually, Sons of Anarchy came as her true savior, as the show pulled her out of the typecast misery and allowed her to explore her dramatic side.

Exclusive: Kurt Sutter and Katey Sagal have teamed up for their first podcast, Pie. People. Influences. Experiences. The program will start April 2, available on all podcast players and YouTube.
They describe Pie as an intimate parlor conversation exploring the ingredients that “baked up” each guest. It is a respectful, deep dive into nature and nurture — family, faith, friends, hometowns, schooling, mentors, tormentors, etc. It will be the heart-to-heart chat that gives us some authentic insight into each guest’s personal and professional choices — in the arts, athletics, healthcare, politics, etc.
I can testify that between them, this couple can cover a healthy span of topics. A few years back, I convinced Sutter to co-live blog the Emmys for Deadline. Only when I arrived at their home did I learn that Kurt had been so busy as the writer, director and producer of my fave FX series Sons of Anarchy, that...

Katey Sagal thought she would feel out of place playing on the drama Sons of Anarchy. After all, she was known for more comedic roles on Married with Children and Futurama, so she understood the irony of her casting. However, series creator Kurt Sutter saw something in Sagal, and certainly who would know better than her own husband? Sagal said during a panel at Steel City Con that despite the occasionally awkward work relationship, their professional marriage benefited them both. In the case of most animated movies and TV shows, the voice actors are recorded separately and at different times. An actor can come to the studio based on their own schedule, record their own lines without any of their co-stars in the building, and "bank" an episode before the animation begins. Typically, behind-the-scenes footage of voice actors plying their craft tends to feature them alone in a soundproof booth.
There are, of course, plenty of exceptions to the rule. Kevin Conroy and Mark Hamill famously acted out their scenes together for "Batman: The Animated Series," and "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem" saw the four titular turtle teens all recording together. One can see the advantages and disadvantages of both individual and group recordings right away. The former can make for a streamlined animation process that can bend to the schedule of an actor, while the latter can produce...

When Matt Groening and David X. Cohen's animated sci-fi comedy "Futurama" began to be developed in the late 1990s, it was not treated with the respect one might expect for a follow-up to "The Simpsons." Where Groening's previous cartoon dealt in the classic sitcom setup of a dysfunctional family, "Futurama" was a harder sell, set in the year 3000 but in a world that largely looked like the late '90s. Only with aliens and spaceships.
Fox, the channel on which the show premiered, should have been a good home. After all, "The Simpsons" was an incredible success, at that point entering its 10th year on the network. Mike Judge and Greg Daniels had produced the excellent "King of the Hill" for Fox, giving the channel another animated sitcom hit. Seth McFarlane's "Family Guy" was in development around the same time. All of these shows would become part of Fox's...

If you saw "The Fabelmans" — and judging from the film's underwhelming box office, you probably didn't — you might think you know exactly how Steven Spielberg broke into show business. Snap Wexley hired him to work on the hit TV sitcom "Hogan's Heroes," he got great advice from an ornery John Ford, and the rest was history.
Except Steven Spielberg didn't really work on "Hogan's Heroes," and he didn't get advice from John Ford when he was actually starting out in the industry. Instead, he met the legendary director of "How Green Was My Valley" and "The Searchers" when he was only 15 years old. It turns out that Steven Spielberg isn't really above smudging the truth a bit in his movies, if he thinks the truth gets in the way of a good story.
And like all good stories, "The Fabelmans" had to end somewhere. It didn't take "Sammy Fabelman" into his actual,...

Good news everyone! “Futurama” and the delivery workers of Planet Express are returning to us this summer. The revival season of Matt Groening and David X. Cohen’s cult classic sci-fi animated series will premiere on Hulu on July 24, Disney announced Thursday. To accompany the news, a teaser for the new season, christening the revival “Hulurama,” has been released. Watch below.
Originally a Fox series that debuted in 1999, “Futurama” has had a long and bumpy shelf life, with the new Hulu season marking the third revival for the animated series over the course of its existence. After getting canceled by the brainless drones that run the network in 2003 after four acclaimed seasons, the show eventually returned in the form of four TV movies released across 2008 and 2009, which were eventually split into four episodes each and counted as their own individual seasons. Rod Serling's horror anthology series "Night Gallery," a spiritual follow-up to his hit show "The Twilight Zone," began its life as a 1969 TV movie, consisting of three separate episodes directed by Boris Sagal, Barry Shear, and an up-and-coming novice named Steven Spielberg. Sagal and Shear were a long-term TV veterans at the time, having worked on "The Twilight Zone" and "The Man from U.N.C.L.E." between them. "Night Gallery" was Spielberg's very first professional directing job. Spielberg's segment, called "Eyes," starred Joan Crawford as a wealthy blind woman who pays a huge amount of money for an experimental eyeball transplant that will give her perfect vision for a mere 11 hours. As she removes her bandages following the surgery, there is a blackout in her apartment. Cue the disappointed "Price is Right" trombone.

“It has been my honor to play D.J. Conner,” Fishman said in a statement to People. “It’s every actors dream to be a series regular, especially on a groundbreaking show, where we tackle significant topics.”
“While I wholeheartedly will miss Friday night tapings in front of our loyal audiences, alongside our amazing cast and crew, I am excited for the opportunities coming in the next chapter of my career,” he continued.
“While I was told I would not be returning for season 5, Lanford was a valuable place to grow up, learn and develop,” Fishman concluded. “I was incredibly lucky to return home and demonstrate my expansion. As I venture into the world to build the future, I send tremendous love and success to everyone involved in production.
