Marvel's "What If..." has employed a mix of reprisals and recasts from the movies. Captain Peggy Carter may have the super soldier serum, and Strange Supreme went down a darker path, but they're still played by Hayley Atwell and Benedict Cumberbatch like the originals. Tragically, T'Challa-as-Star-Lord also went down as Chadwick Boseman's final performance.
On the other hand: Mick Wingert fills in for Robert Downey Jr. as Tony Stark/Iron Man, Lake Bell plays Black Widow instead of Scarlett Johansson, and season 1 big bad Infinity Ultron was voiced by Ross Marquand, not James Spader.
"What If..." season 2 brings in two characters not seen in season 1, Hela (the villain of "Thor: Ragnarok") and Wenwu (the villain of "Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings"), and pairs them up in episode 7: "What If... Hela Found the Ten Rings?" The episode splits the difference on recasting: Wenwu is voiced by Feodor Chin,...

Unlike a movie, a TV show is not generally meant to be consumed in a single sitting. It is, at least in theory, designed to be enjoyed episode by episode. So having already celebrated the best series of the year (and the best TV performances), we’re here now to highlight a few individual chapters that particularly stood out to us from our hundreds and hundreds of hours of viewing.
As a rule, we excluded any title that had already made either of our individual top 10s. (Sorry, Richie episode of The Bear. And “Long, Long Time” from The Last of Us. And half this season of Succession. Half this season of Reservation Dogs. And, and, and …) This was in part to save ourselves the trouble of singing praises we’ve already sung so many times before, but mostly in an effort to spread the love. For the same reasons,...

On December 7, the “Auction of Nothing” In support of (Red)’s Fight To End AIDS was co-hosted by Lake Bell and Laura Brown and attended by many stars in Los Angeles.
Sarah Silverman, Melissa McCarthy, Clea Duvall, Lindsay Sloane and Reggie Watts were all among the celebrities at the event.
The brand (Red) aims to involve the private sector in creating awareness and generating funds to combat HIV/AIDS in eight African nations, specifically Eswatini, Ghana, Kenya, Lesotho, Rwanda, South Africa, Tanzania and Zambia.
AIDS is a chronic disease of the immune system caused by the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV). HIV weakens the immune system and makes it difficult for the body to fight off infections and diseases. The virus can be transmitted through contact with infected blood, semen or vaginal fluids.
While there is no cure for HIV/AIDS, medication can effectively manage the infection and prevent the progression of the disease.

Jennifer Lopez may have gotten a ton of awards season buzz for her work in the 2019 drama “Hustlers,” but she didn’t walk home with any major honors.
In fact, she reflected on not receiving any top prizes in the entertainment world at Monday’s Elle Women in Hollywood event. “I don’t have an Oscar. And I don’t have a Golden Globe. And I don’t have a Grammy or a SAG Award or a BAFTA or a Critics Choice or a Hollywood Film Award,” the multi-hyphenate said after being presented with this year’s Icon Award by Universal Pictures boss Donna Langley.
“But this is my fifth Icon Award,” Lopez said. “Of all the things that I thought I would grow up to be when I was a little girl, the last thing you know I was gonna have on my list was icon.”
Not that Lopez is complaining about the recognition.

Marvel’s What If? Is back for a second series on Disney+ this December – and here’s the trailer to prove it…
What If? was a surprising, fun addition to the Marvel canon when it first landed on Disney+, perhaps because the sheer scale of storytelling possibilities is so huge.
Series one featured scenarios as wide ranging as Peggy Carter becoming the First Avenger and T’Challa becoming a Star Lord, to examining what might have happened if artificially-intelligent supervillain Ultron hadn’t been defeated by those pesky Avengers. It doesn’t look like the next run of the show will be pulling its punches either.
Promotion is underway for it now, and we now have a synopsis for the second series. It doesn’t tell us much, but nevertheless reads as follows:

More Harlivy is on the way.
Max has renewed raunchy, violent animated series “Harley Quinn” for Season 5, just a couple months after Season 4 finished its run. The animated DC show, starring Kaley Cuoco as Harley Quinn and Lake Bell as Poison Ivy, has proven to be a hit for Max, and it even has its own spinoff, “Kite Man: Hell Yeah,” coming in 2024.
“‘Harley Quinn’ has raised the comedic crowbar with every new season. We’re excited to continue this partnership with Max and take our biggest swing yet for Season 5,” said Peter Girardi, Executive Vice President of Alternative Programming at Warner Bros. Animation, in a statement.
In Season 4, Harley began working with the Bat-Family, including Robin, Nightwing and Batgirl, while Ivy assumed her new role as the CEO of the Legion of Doom. As Harley started to embrace her more heroic endeavors, she and Ivy butted heads in their relationship.

"Things have gotten a little twisted in the Multiverse…" Marvel has revealed the official trailer for Season 2 of the fun spin-off series What If...?, where they present short stories based on crazy "what if" scenarios in the MCU. The first season launched in 2021 to mixed reviews, and this second season will be out to watch in December. One new episode will introduce an original MCU character named Kahhori, a young Mohawk woman who seeks to discover her powers after the Tesseract crash-lands in the Haudenosaunee Confederacy in pre-colonial America. In another episode, Peggy Carter / Captain Carter believes that the love of her life, Steve Rogers, is long-dead until he is discovered alive as the villainous Hydra Stomper. That sounds wild! The voice cast set for Season 2 includes Hayley Atwell, Lake Bell, Josh Keaton, and Jeffrey Wright back as The Watcher, the main character in this taking viewers into the various stories.

The MCU’s upcoming slate continues to face a whole lot of shifting, but for now at least, there’s still a lot more Marvel TV on the way.
At the start of 2022, there were 12 new Marvel Studios series slated to premiere on the streaming platform in the coming months/years, along with two returning series. Then, the studio announced a few more at San Diego Comic-Con. Now, as 2023 speeds to a close, many of those have come and gone. But like we said, there are still more yet.
Of course, it’s hard for anyone to keep track of all these series in their head. So, we went ahead and compiled a list for you of every confirmed Marvel TV show currently in the works to premiere on Disney+.

Susie Fox, Mackenzie Roussos and Chelsea Mckinnies have joined Entertainment 360 as partners. No one is commenting but I hear the trio have closed deals with the management company and have already started there, using work emails.
Entertainment 360 emerged as Fox, Roussos and Mckinnies’ next destination about two weeks ago when they resigned from another management company, Range, where they had been founding partners for more than three years. I hear their Range exit has not been finalized yet, with a settlement being negotiated.
As Deadline reported, Fox, Roussos and Mckinnies had been taking meetings with both agencies and management companies amid contract renewal negotiations with Range before the trio opted to leave and join Entertainment 360.
Fox started her career at Mosaic. She then went to CAA where she got to work with Roussos and Mckinnies and the trio moved together to UTA in 2015 and to Range in 2020.

Exclusive: Range founding partners Susie Fox, Mackenzie Roussos and Chelsea Mckinnies are departing the management company they were involved in launching more than three years ago. The trio resigned today, sources tell Deadline. Their destination is unclear, we hear it would likely be Management 360.
Rumors have been flying this week that Fox, Roussos and Mckinnies have been taking meetings amid contract negotiations with Range, where their deals were coming up. A number of potential suitors including management company 2Am — which is financially backed by A24 — Brillstein Entertainment Partners, WME, UTA and CAA have been being bandied about, with speculation about the trio potentially joining Management 360 intensifying during the past couple of days. Sources say the process is in exploratory stages.
Fox, Roussos and Mckinnies went to Range from UTA. Before that, all three had been at CAA, leaving the agency around the mass agent exodus to UTA in spring 2015. Fox started her career at Mosaic.

What happens when an immovable object meets a fatigued force that keeps whacking its head against said object in defeated frustration? That’s the question proposed by Niclas Larsson’s debut feature, “Mother, Couch.” Executive produced by and starring the once-boyish, now often forlorn Ewan McGregor, the film follows David, a frumpy middle-aged family man whose mother (Ellen Burstyn) plants herself on an old couch in the storage room of a furniture outlet, flatly refusing to vacate the premises. Though Larsson builds from the increasingly existential dilemma in striking ways, “Mother, Couch” finds itself caught running in place before grasping for sentimentality in its final minutes.
The central kerfuffle kicks off as David surveys the far-flung outlet Bob’s Furniture, tagging along with his older brother, Gruffudd (Rhys Ifans). The dim swamp of a business lays out an absorbing, homely stage for the drama, with awkwardly arranged floor plans and...

Like the humongous going-out-of-business furniture store where Mother, Couch takes place, the movie is a collection of intriguing pieces that mostly sit there unassembled or out of context, their potential unfulfilled. Exhibit A among the elements banging around this echo chamber of strained surrealism is the committed ensemble cast. It’s led by Ewan McGregor, as a stressed-out husband and father who’s trying, with little help from anyone around him, to lure his mother (a bewigged and scowling Ellen Burstyn) out of the retail outlet where she’s planted herself.
Rhys Ifans and Lara Flynn Boyle round out the story’s central trio of siblings, with Taylor Russell and F. Murray Abraham also inhabiting its peculiar world, a place that isn’t what it seems. Whatever drew this strong cast to Niclas Larsson’s debut feature remains elusive in the finished product, which stirs up questions about the illogical...

Take a bit of Kafka, throw in some Buñuelian realism, add a dose of John Cheever (circa The Swimmer) and then hand the recipe over to a first-time feature-making Swedish director with fond memories of a childhood spent in Ikea furniture stores, then put together an A-List cast, and you essentially have Mother, Couch.
A World Premiere this weekend at the Toronto Film Festival, this truly surreal, metaphysical mind trip will not be to everyone’s taste, but the cast, including a couple of Oscar winners, will make it go down easier even if some of it more closely resembles a thespian exercise at the Actor’s Studio, rather than a major motion picture. It certainly is watchable, and writer/director Niclas Larsson makes the most of his adaptation of Jerker Virdborg’s book, Mamma I Sofa which centers on a seemingly normal outing to a furniture store but turns...

Excellent performances from Ewan McGregor, Ellen Burstyn, Rhys Ifans and Lara Flynn Boyle are wasted on a baffling, surreal family indie
Heads will be left thoroughly scratched by this rather bewildering curio, a rambling yet not entirely ineffectual comedy-drama about a fractured family forced together by unusual circumstance, starting out somewhat of this world before falling headfirst into surrealist fantasy. Affection for Mother, Couch! might be amplified by the recent phenomenal success of Everything Everywhere All at Once, another film using quirky, fantastical elements to tell the story of a family unit in crisis, but even the many, many hardcore fans of this year’s best picture winner will struggle to hold on until the end here, on a rickety runaway train hurtling towards disaster.
Its passengers at least seem blissfully unaware of their fate. The crackerjack ensemble gives it their all, almost enough to save a script written with...

There is something so haunting about “Mother, Couch” that the term surreal doesn’t quite cover it. Could it be a recent career-best-of-many performance by Ellen Burstyn, or the realization that why, yes, Lara Flynn Boyle has an uncanny resemblance to the iconic actress and is perfectly cast as her daughter?
Or is it just how frazzled Ewan McGregor becomes as he starts contemplating whether or not he is a bad parent to his young children while his onscreen wife, played by Lake Bell, is drowning in her own swirl of domestic stress? In short, “Mother, Couch” is a triumph that marks, bafflingly, writer-director Niclas Larsson’s feature debut.
To start with the title, “Mother, Couch” does very well need the comma: This is a presentation of a nameless Mother (Burstyn), one whose title is solely in reference to the fact that she has spawned a trio of children — David...

DC delivered a lot of live-action and animated content in the last few years. Although the studio has been struggling with the live-action content amid the imminent end of DC Extended Universe, DC never fails to deliver us some animation every year. Apart from the animated movies such as ‘Legion of Super-Heroes,’ ‘Batman: The Doom That Came to Gotham,’ and ‘Justice League: Warworld,’ we also watched the ‘Harley Quinn,’ series, which spawned the ‘Valentine’s Day Special’ and its fourth season this year.

Although Warner Bros. Discovery has cut quite a number of shows on Max, fans are thankful that Harley Quinn has survived. The series was renewed last year, and the new Nsfw trailer for Harley Quinn season 4 debuted today at San Diego Comic-Con.
With more sex, more drama, and more Harlivy, the Harley Quinn season 4 trailer offers everything fans have been hungry for. Picking up where the third season left off, the new season will find Harley giving the superhero thing a try, although she’s clearly struggling with the Bat Family’s “no killing” policy.
“This biting and uproarious adult animated comedy follows Harley Quinn (voiced by executive producer Kaley Cuoco) as she strikes out on her own following her breakup with The Joker (Alan Tudyk),” reads the official synopsis. “With help from Poison Ivy (Lake Bell) and a ragtag crew of DC castoffs, Harley attempts to work her way into the Legion of Doom,...

Get ready for another “jugs out, rugs out” season of Harley Quinn.
Max on Thursday dropped the official trailer for the animated series’ fourth installment, which finds Harley (voiced by Kaley Cuoco) and Ivy (Lake Bell) in an uncomfortable new position — quite possibly the only position we haven’t seen them in at this point. With Harley now fighting crime in Gotham City and Ivy heading up the Legion of Doom, their relationship is once again in serious jeopardy. But not too serious, of course. As Harley promises in the trailer, Season 4 brings “more #Harlivy. Like, a lot more. Because...

Lake Bell has taken a creative dip in the canned wine business.
The multi-hyphenate has partnered with Nomadica to write, direct and produce the brand’s first creative campaign for its new Orange offering, and has joined the Los Angeles-based team to serve as creative advisor.
Nomadica’s Orange is described as a “skin contact white wine,” meaning the skin of the grapes remain in contact with their juice during fermentation. This particular blend mixes chardonnay, Grüner Veltliner and Albariño grapes with tropical notes including pineapple and jackfruit and is complemented by fragrances of orange blossom and dried chamomile flowers. The can boasts artwork titled “Plant Melody” by visual artist Yadi Liu.
As for the campaign, which includes video and stills, Bell leaned into the skin contact theme by playing up the connection between two people. She worked alongside creative director Aiden Duffy to cast inclusive couples spanning race, age...
