Lars von Trier is finally back behind the camera for his first feature since “Nymphomaniac,” and we’re not sure whether we should be excited or flat out terrified, especially since the drama is about the coming of age of a serial killer. “The House that Jack Built,” which is set over 12 years and focuses on five key murders, is currently filming in Bengtfors, Sweden, and von Trier took some time to meet with press (via ScreenDaily) alongside stars Matt Dillon and Uma Thurman and producers Louise Vesth and Madeleine Ekman.
“I chose Matt and I chose Uma because they obviously can’t read,” von Trier said. He may have been using his trademark sarcasm, but it’s clear even the director knows this is going to be his most brutal movie to date, which is saying something coming from the man behind “Nymphomaniac,” “Breaking the Waves” and “Antichrist.”

Lars von Trier talks Uma Thurman, serial killers and Cannes at first press conference since Nazi row
Set report: director and cast discuss Us-set drama The House That Jack Built during Tuesday 7 March press event.
”I chose Matt and I chose Uma because they obviously can’t read,” Lars von Trier says with the hint of a smile.
The Danish director is sitting in a village hall a few kilometres outside the town of Bengtfors in a snow-covered part of Sweden which is standing in for the state of Washington, where his next film, the serial killer-drama The House That Jack Built, is set.
Von Trier is flanked by Matt Dillon and Uma Thurman, two of the main actors in the film, and two of his producers, Louise Vesth from Zentropa and Madeleine Ekman, and they are faced by a large group of journalists, mostly from Scandinavia and some from the rest of Europe.
He continues: ”There were so many people we sent the script to, who said they would do anything to work...

Alexander Payne is attached to direct an adaptation of Karl Ove Knausgaard’s travel articles “My Saga” for Bona Fide Productions, TheWrap has learned. Knausgaard is a Norwegian author who traced the Vikings’ historic trek through the Northern U.S. in two lengthy articles published in the New York Times Magazine last year. He was joined on his comedic, often absurd journey by Magnum photographer Peter van Agtmael. Bona Fide’s Albert Berger and Ron Yerxa will produce the project with the Scandinavian producers Madeleine Ekman and Lizette Jonic of Zentropa Sweden. The quartet will soon hire (a likely Scandinavian) writer to adapt the.

A group of producers and entertainment executives is heading to New York for a series of talks and one-on-one networking sessions over October 6-8.
Film i Väst, the Swedish regional film fund, sponsors the trip, which is organised by London and La-based consultants MediaXchange.
Mediaxchange CEO Katrina Wood (pictured), said the aim of the delegation – which she described as “very much the cream of the crop in Sweden” – was to foster close ties and build towards a reciprocal trip in February 2015 during the Gothenburg Film Festival.
“The goal is to build a bridge between the industry there and the Swedes in a more substantial way then has been done in the past, which was very much on a project-by-project basis,” said Wood.
“Delegates will be there for three days during the New York Film Festival to understand the issues of working in the Us market and to meet some of the experts there. The majority...

Source: FilmShaft - New International Poster For Lars von Trier’s Melancholia Plus Stills
A brand new international poster for Lars von Trier's eagerly anticipated drama, Melancholia, has been put online. The Danish auteur has attracted a great cast including Kirsten Dunst, Charlotte Gainsbourg, Charlotte Rampling, John Hurt, Udo Kier and Stellan Skarsgård for what has been often described as a "psychological disaster film".
The poster looks to have taken its inspiration from a book jacket and is a classy affair. The stills themselves are gorgeous and very Scandinavian looking. This should be a treat after the horror of AntiChrist.
Synopsis:
Kirsten Dunst and Charlotte Gainsbourg and Kiefer Sutherland star together with Alexander Skarsgård, Charlotte Rampling, John Hurt, Stellan Skarsgård, Udo Kier and Jesper Christensen. The behind-the-scenes team includes award-winning cinematographer Manuel Alberto Claro Dff (Reconstruction), production designer Jette Lehmann (Flame and Citron), and costume designer Manon Rasmussen (Dancer in the Dark...

The trailer made its debut last week (see it Melancholia Trailer) and now Lars von Trier's next magnum opus will open in the UK from 30th September. Melancholia will be receiving its world premiere at the 64th Cannes Film Festival next month, which means Lars will be making the trip to the fest in his camper van. He's scared of flying, apparently.
So will Melancholia cause outrage on the Croisette like Antichrist did? Who knows. Von Trier announced at the pre-shoot press conference there would be "no more happy endings!" He's such a joker. Expect this to polarise opinion just like all his other films.
Press release:
Artificial Eye will release Lars von Trier's Melancholia on 30 September. A beautiful movie about the end of the world, Melancholia is written and directed by von Trier and produced by Meta Louise Foldager and Louise Vesth for Zentropa Entertainments27. Melancholia will...

"No more happy endings!" Lars von Trier announced at the pre-production press conference for Melancholia. Of course such statements are part and parcel of the Danish director's schtick, which only serves to make us all laugh and await the next film.
The debut trailer for his latest work should be called a disasterpiece given that it's a story centred on the destruction of our planet. It was launched today via the official website. Melancholia will be having its world premiere at the 64th Cannes Film Festival next month.
Along with the trailer we've got the UK press release with info on the plot, its UK release date and distribution details. Can't wait for this one.
