Fresh off of his traffic-stopping Hollywood Walk of Fame induction ceremony, Dr. Dre made his first late night TV appearance in 30 years as a guest on Tuesday’s Jimmy Kimmel Live!, where the rapper-producer-mogul reunited with Snoop Dogg and 50 Cent and announced that a new Eminem album is coming this year.
Dre, whose birth name is Andre Romelle Young, drew major players in the rap game and brought out a crowd so large that Hollywood Boulevard had to be briefly shut down, as he received his honor on the iconic Walk of Fame on Tuesday. The Compton native was joined at the ceremony by Xzibit, 50 Cent, his longtime friend Snoop Dogg and his protégé Eminem.
Later, at the close of his segment on Kimmel’s Tuesday show, Dre dropped the announcement about Eminem’s forthcoming album.
“Eminem is working on his own album, which is coming out this year.

"It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia" is a somewhat unique comedy series in that the central cast and creative team have known one another for years, working together long before FX picked up their homemade pilot and they had a cable TV show together. That means that some of their inside jokes and gags go back decades, and in at least one instance, they ended up plagiarizing themselves by reusing a gag from one of their homemade shorts to create a major character for "Always Sunny." Then again, maybe plagiarism is too strong a word, considering the fact that the short wasn't really shown to the masses prior to "Sunny" blowing up and it's a very basic character premise, but they definitely still copied themselves.
On an episode of "The Always Sunny Podcast" aptly titled "The Waitress," actor Mary Elizabeth Ellis joined the regular "Sunny" podcast crew of Charlie Day, Glenn Howerton,...

“I’m starting to think I’m never going to meet a woman who understands me,” laments Ezra (Jonah Hill), a 35-year-old man with a desk job at a brokerage firm and zero romantic prospects. Ezra is a bit of a hipster: He wears his hair in a ponytail, collects Nike sneakers and sports elaborate tattoos on his arms. But Hill, cast as an earnest romantic comedy lead for the first time in his career, amps up the character’s likability, too: He’s a modest hipster, a socially awkward mensch who doesn’t always know how to stand up for himself. When he goes out on a date with a woman he meets at the synagogue, she ends up mocking his desire to host a pop culture podcast. “You’re a Jew from West L.A.,” she says dismissively. “What do you know about culture?”

Vertical Entertainment has landed North American rights to “The Doc,” a documentary about a rap legend whose life and career was upended after a near-fatal accident.
The Doc, a hip-hop lyricist and producer who wrote for Nwa and Dr. Dre, was involved in a 1989 car crash that took his voice. “The Doc,” directed Dave Caplan, picks up 30 years later as he considers a dangerous experimental surgery that could restore his vocal cords.
Vertical will release the movie in theaters in the spring of 2023, following its world premiere at last year’s Tribeca Film Festival.
“The Doc is an incredible talent and visionary who helped usher the hip-hop movement into mainstream America,” Peter Jarowey, a partner at Vertical, said in a statement. “As his remarkable life is revealed on screen, it is like watching the history of hip-hop unfold before your very eyes as witnessed by industry legends who count him as a friend,...

When the D.O.C. spoke with Rolling Stone last week about the excellent new documentary about his life, he dropped a bombshell: He had been recording new music for the first time in decades. Ever since a 1989 car wreck damaged his vocal cords, the gravelly-voiced rapper — who had previously released the platinum-selling No One Can Do It Better in 1988 and written rhymes for N.W.A — had recorded only one full album, 1996’s Helter Skelter, and made only a few appearances himself on another, 2003’s The Deuce.

Between 1988 and 1992, the D.O.C. released his platinum-selling, still-jaw-dropping debut album, No One Can Do It Better, and ghost-wrote rhymes for N.W.A’s Straight Outta Compton, Eazy-e’s Eazy-Duz-It, and Dr. Dre’s The Chronic. He also cofounded Death Row Records with Dre and Suge Knight, and he mentored a young Snoop Dogg on the ins and outs of songcraft when the young rapper only knew how to freestyle. All of those achievements, though, are overshadowed in some ways by the 1989 accident in which the D.O.C., a.k.a.

Less than four years after Primary Wave, known at the time mostly for its music business, made a big push in talent management with the back-to-back acquisitions of Mark Burg’s Evolution Management and David Guillod’s Intellectual Artists Management, the company is scaling back on Hollywood representation to focus on its core music management business as well as film and TV development and production via Cathy Schulman’s Welle Entertainment.
Of the three principals of the merged Primary Wave Entertainment talent management division, Primary Wave co-CEOs Larry Mestel, Guillod and Burg, only Mestel is still there, running the company as CEO. Guillod resigned in November in the wake of sexual assault allegations. I hear Burg, who had managed Charlie Sheen for 20 years, left soon after to return to producing. A large number of the remaining Pwe managers have left in the past seven months or are in the process of leaving.

Just renewed for a fifth season, Empire (1.7/7) saw the loss of a true major player last night with Xzibit’s Shyne Johnson killed off on Lucious Lyon’s command. Ratingswise, however, the Fox hip-hop drama was very much alive.
Even with last week’s final numbers, the series co-created by Lee Daniels and Danny Strong was again Wednesday’s top-rated show. In fact, last night’s Empire was up a tenth from the series low of April 25’s fast affiliates among adults 18-49.
With Daniels’ other show Star (1.2/5) holding even, Fox again took Wednesday overall with a 1.4/5 in the key demo. Facing the Utah Jazz’s tense 116-108 victory over the Houston Rockets in the NBA playoffs on TNT, CBS and NBC tied for second place in the demo, while the House of Moonves was first in total viewers with 6.27 million tuning in.

Fox has picked up Empire for a fifth season. The hip-hop family drama, from creators Lee Daniels and Danny Strong, Imagine Television and 20th Century Fox TV, was an instant pop culture phenomenon when it debuted in January 2015. Four seasons in, the critically praised series starring Terrence Howard and Taraji P. Henson is off from its meteoric ratings heights but remains Fox’s No.2 series in adults 18-49 and total viewers.

Snoop Dogg, late night talk show host? That could be the next evolution in the always-surprising career of the hip-hop icon, whose TBS game show “Snoop Dogg Presents The Joker’s Wild,” returns on Sunday for a second season.
“It’s the best job in the world to be a game show host, coming from being a rapper and a football coach,” Snoop recently told IndieWire. “This is a comfort zone for me.”
Of course, Snoop is no stranger to the hosting world, having landed an Emmy nomination last year in the outstanding reality host category, along with Martha Stewart, for “Martha & Snoop’s Potluck Dinner Party.” But now, Snoop said he’s also kicking around some ideas that might put him in the same arena as Stephen Colbert, Jimmy Fallon and his old buddy Jimmy Kimmel.

"Part of me wants to know what's going on. Part of me doesn't..." Netflix has released the first trailer for an indie dark comedy titled Sun Dogs, the feature directorial debut of actress Jennifer Morrison. The film premiered at a few smaller film festivals last year, and it will be available on Netflix this April. Sun Dogs is about a young, emotionally unbalanced man from a small town, played by Michael Angarano, who wants to become a soldier to "save lives", fueled by the belief that Al-Qaeda terrorists might be operating in his neighborhood. Melissa Benoist co-stars as his friend Tally, and the full cast includes Allison Janney, Ed O'Neill, Xzibit, Jennifer Morrison, Eric Christian Olsen, J.R. Ramirez, and Niko Nicotera. This looks funky and weird and somewhat amusing, might be an original American indie comedy worth a watch. Here's the first official trailer (+ promo poster) for Jennifer Morrison's Sun Dogs,...

This week, we will be taking a look at Werner Herzog’s ‘Bad Lieutenant: Port of Call New Orleans’. For the story behind the genesis of Canon Of Film, you can click here.
Bad Lieutenant: Port Of Call New Orleans (2009)
Director: Werner Herzog
Screenplay: William Finkelstein
If there ever was a better example of how to show the old adage true that it’s not what the film is about but rather, how it’s about it… Abel Ferrara’s 1992 masterpiece ‘Bad Lieutenant‘, took place on the streets of New York and starred Harvey Keitel as a “bad lieutenant”. He wasn’t even given a name in the film. He did every drug he could, he pulled over women to sexually harass them, he screwed hookers, and gambled large amounts of money. In between, he tries to solve a crime, haphazardly involving the rape of a local nun. I met...

Excuse us if we're bursting your bubble here, but it turns out that MTV's beloved fixer-upper car show Pimp My Ride was total bullshit. The Huffington Post interviewed a few of the show's past contestants, who each had different complaints about the show's "reality" — everything from producers removing the add-ons after the show was done taping ("they actually take out a lot of the stuff that they showed on TV") to "pimped" items that "were occasionally put into cars with no intention of them ever working in real life." Whoops! That cotton-candy machine Xzibit excitedly installed in your ride? Well: "They installed [it to] fit into the trunk without leaving enough room for the dome top to keep the cotton candy strands 'from flying all over the place.'" That same guy tells HuffPost that the show even "went the extra mile to make me look extra fat by telling the world...

And this year had no shortage of stars having run-ins with the police. Here's a look back on the year's 36 biggest celebrity arrests.
Tito Ortiz – The former Mma fighter was arrested on Jan. 6 on suspicion of driving under the influence after he drove his Porsche Panamera into the concrete median on the 405 freeway in L.A. at 4am.

From crappy cars to car collections, even the finest of celebs had to start somewhere (just like us.) Some got lucky – a hot, sporty whip from their ‘rents. But others were stuck with rusty hand-me-down fixer-up-ers.
You’d be surprised at what some of the prettiest faces in Hollywood were caught driving during their teenage years. While many have upgraded big time since then, a select few remain modest in their choice of car. (Nothing a simple Pimp My Ride project can’t fix – where’s Xzibit when ya need him?) From Fiat to Ferrari and Buick to Bugatti, let’s see what these celebrities started out with in their garage.
Let us take you on a wild ride through the driving history of your favorite stars. We promise it will be a history lesson you actually enjoy.

Michael Bay is adding some extra flash to the upcoming Transformers sequel.
Bay revealed three new Autobot photos on his website this week for Transformers 4. The first photo features a newly repainted, and custom built, Optimus Prime.
He’s got a blue base with red flame paint job, straight out of Xzibit’s old Pimp My Ride series.
The transformed Optimus was designed by Daimler Trucks’ subsidiary Western Star.
Next up, Bay’s adding the Bugatti Grand Sport Vitesse, worth over $2.4 million. Phew.
Finally, we have the C7 Corvette Stingray, a 2014 car which – obviously – hasn’t even come out yet.
If you noticed the mountain backdrop in the photos, it’s because Transformers 4 is filming in Monument Valley Navajo Tribal Park. Perhaps this explains why the Autobots decided to disguise themselves in such flashy styles – I guess…

With all the attention Kathryn Bigelow's Zero Dark Thirty is getting as the headlining drama on the hunt and takedown of Usama Bin Laden, and its potentially ethical quandary of changing the truth to fit its own desired narrative or simply telling a truth the government wished kept secret, it's easy to overlook any other iterations on that story that have been made into films recently. Among those are John Stockwell's Seal Team Six: The Raid on Osama Bin Laden, which deals more with the bang bang than it does the legwork, and stars Cam Gigandet, Kathleen Robertson, Xzibit, and Anson Mount. So if you wish Zero Dark Thirty was less Jessica Chastain chat and more terrorist splat, then this one might be for you.

After the success of "Seal Team Six," National Geographic is planning a new series called "Inside Combat Rescue," reports Variety. The series marks the first time cameras have been allowed by the U.S. Air Force to follow rescue teams like Pararescuemen, Pave Hawk helicopter pilots and combat rescue officers. The reality series is based in Afghanistan over a four-month deployment. Howard T. Owens, president of National Geographic Channels told Variety that "Having a camera layout for 'Inside Combat Rescue' that was not obtrusive and allowed these PJs to do their work and save lives was crucial. We gained unrivaled access to 130 missions where 108 lives were saved." As far as "Seal Team Six: The Raid on Osama Bin Laden" goes, that starred Cam Gigandet, Anson Mount, Freddy Rodriguez, Xzibit, Kathleen Robertson, Robert Knepper and Eddie Kaye Thomas. John Stockwell helmed from the Kendall Lampkin script.
