Exclusive: Sony Pictures Television has finalized a new licensing deal with Paramount Global for comedy series The King of Queens to continue to be available on Paramount linear cable networks. The new pact also includes for the first time streaming rights on Paramount+ for all nine seasons and on Pluto TV for some (currently Seasons 1-3).
Paramount Global would not specify which linear networks will be carrying The King Of Queens. The sitcom has been running on the company’s TV Land and CMT.
Sony TV took The King of Queens out a year ago, offering rights across all linear and digital platforms starting in April 2024. The new pact with Paramount Global kicked in at the start of the month, with the show already available on Paramount+ and Pluto TV.
The deal is not exclusive — The King of Queens continues to also be available on NBCU platforms, including Peacock, as well as in broadcast syndication.

Jerry Stiller was known for playing irascible loudmouths and high-strung hotheads.
In truth, the actor and comedian, who died May 11 of natural causes at the age of 92, could not have been more different than the TV personas of his later years: the ultra-neurotic Frank Costanza of “Seinfeld” or the miscreant Arthur Spooner of “The King of Queens.”
Friends and colleagues remember Stiller as an actor who was dedicated to his work and grateful for a long career in show business after growing up in difficult circumstances during the Depression. The father of filmmaker Ben Stiller, actor Amy Stiller and widower of Anne Meara — his longtime comedy partner and wife of 62 years — was respected throughout the industry.
“One of the sweetest and kindest men I’ve ever known, not to mention one of the funniest,” “Seinfeld” co-creator Larry David says of Stiller, who had a recurring role as the father of Jason Alexander’s George Costanza.

Think of them as Friends who are losers … In fact, at first, you might think Fox’s new Tuesday night comedy should be called Weird Losers rather than Weird Loners. In any case, it’s actually a likable foursome of New Yorkers at the core of this new sitcom from creator and executive producer Michael J. Weithorn. Episode 1 spends its first few minutes with a “cold opening” that introduces us to each of the four main characters, flashing back to fourth-grade classroom photos with the narrator explaining how, as they grew into adulthood, none of them had been paired off. … Continue reading →

Digital releases seem to be the way to go for a few different video projects these days, and now Rob Benedict is following suit. The actor from the CW’s Supernatural series is releasing his short film The Sidekick on iTunes, Amazon, and Vimeo On Demand on February 3, 2015.
Written by Benedict and directed by Michael J. Weithorn (of The King of Queens), The Sidekick stars Benedict as Max McCabe, a 40-year-old, obsolete superhero sidekick who is fired by his boss Captain Wonder (played by Ron Livingston) in favor of a younger associate named Kid Loco (Jason Ritter). Max makes a new friend (Lizzy Caplan) and must learn to forge a new path for his life. The Sidekick co-stars Martin Starr, Ike Barinholtz, Josh Meyers, and Key and Peele’s Jordan Peele.
The Sidekick originally debuted at San Diego Comic-Con 2013 before Benedict and Wiethorn took it on a festival tour. The...

Los Angeles — Nine years ago, the inaugural episode of "Lost" captured Comic-Con attendees' imaginations when it first premiered at the fan-driven extravaganza, and the surreal series about plane crash survivors went on to become a cultural phenomenon. This year, more than 10 new shows are angling to land similar success when they touch down in San Diego this week.
Such new live-action series as "The Avengers" spin-off "Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.," android buddy cop drama "Almost Human" and supernatural saga "Sleepy Hollow," which stars British actor Tom Mison as Ichabod Crane, will be hyped with Comic-Con presentations. The mission? Attract cult followings akin to "The Walking Dead" and "Game of Thrones."
"Going to Comic-Con has always been really, really, really high up on my list of things I've wanted to achieve in my career," said Mison. "The first of them is going to Comic-Con. The other is becoming an action figure.

“Supernatural’s” Rob Benedict stars and co-wrote “The Sidekick”, about a 40-year old superhero, well, sidekick who gets fired from his position for, one assumes, incompetence (and just generally being too old and slow, I guess) and now has to find a real job in the real world. Or something to that effect. Luckily for him, Lizzy Caplan is there to lend a helping hand. It’s nothing you haven’t seen before, of course, but it looks somewhat funny. Check out the trailer for the film below and judge for yourself. The Sidekick centers on a 40-year-old career sidekick, Max McCabe (Benedict), now past his prime in the fast-paced world of superhero-dom. When he is unceremoniously fired by his boss, Captain Wonder (Livingston), Max has no choice but to somehow find a place for himself in the regular world. “The Sidekick” will be making its premiere over at Comic Con this year,...

Chicago – Despite the best efforts by Jenna Fischer (“The Office”) playing against type as a smoking, drinking newly-single mother, “A Little Help” is a mess. This dramedy consists of the kind of characters one only sees in a movie theater and usually only in an indie flick that thinks it’s much smarter and has much more to say about the human condition than it actually does.
I can’t stress enough how few of the problems with this deeply-flawed film can be traced back to the lovely Fischer, an actress who never got the credit she deserved for the perfect comic timing she’s displayed on “The Office.” She borders on great here. It’s everything But her with which I have a problem – the two-dimensional supporting characters, the clichéd writing, the non-ending, the leaden direction. Fischer is the one who could have used a little help.

I think Jenna Fischer is just as cute as a goddamn button. I've never been annoyed with her character on "The Office," and I thought she was terrific in Blades of Glory. As an actor or actress, you worry that you'll get pigeonholed, forced to basically play the same character ad infinitum for the rest of your career. So I can respect what Fischer was going for -- trying to scrape a little Michelle Williams street cred by taking on a gritty role in an indie black comedy. But, boy, was A Little Help not the right move. It's a terribly whiny film about a suburban mom trying to cope with being an adult with real-life responsibilities after her husband suddenly dies. The film is convinced that it's Peter Pan, convincing thirty-somethings that it's Ok to have dreams and ambitions and don't let your free spirit ever die, but in...

A television writer nominated for five Emmy Awards, Michael J. Weithorn has had a successful career dating back to the early 1980s — mostly in sitcoms, from “Family Ties”, “The Wonder Years” and “True Colors” up through “Ned and Stacey” and “The King of Queens”. For his feature film debut as both a writer and director, however, Weithorn toned down the overt laughs, and instead took aim at something a bit more melancholic, and laced with a quieter humor. Set in suburban Long Island in the summer following the September 11 attacks, “A Little Help” centers on a dental hygienist and mother, Laura (Jenna Fischer), whose marriage has become tense...

Review of A Little Help Jenna Fischer brings an intimate, women-on-the-verge tale alive in A Little Help. There are two chancy leaps comic actress Jenna Fischer makes at the start of writer/director Michael J. Weithorn’s sly, 2002-set drama A Little Help. There’s the leap from Fischer’s popular TV sitcom The Office, where she plays office receptionist Pam Beesley opposite series star Steve Carell and an impressive ensemble cast including Rainn Wilson, John Krasinski, Ed Helms and Mindy Kaling. Being one of many supporting players on The Office brings up the biggest leap Fischer takes with A Little Help. Weithorn puts Fischer front and center throughout the indie drama and her lead performance determines just how enjoyable and sentimental A Little Help turns out to be. After all, it’s one thing to be a woman behind an office reception desk who delivers a key joke or two in a thirty-minute sitcom.

I'm sure that the entire population of Bangladesh would like to live in an American suburb, but there's much about suburbia that can be criticized by people from our own country, particularly since middle-class Americans do have choices. In return for giving up a refrigerator the size of some Manhattan living rooms like the family on exhibit in Michael J. Weithorn's new movie, we apartment dwellers don't have to drive our kids to hockey games like Sarah Palin or to birthday parties in remote areas. There's also less chance that we city slickers have to put up with the domineering women on exhibit here, women whose bitchiness is played up for both dramatic and comic effect.

In 2009 The King of Queens and Ned and Stacey exec producer Michael J. Weithorn wrote and directed his first feature, called A Little Help. He scored in a couple ways with the cast, which features Jenna Fischer along with Kim Coates, Lesley Ann Warren, Aida Turturro and Chris O'Donnell. But the film turned out as a classically middle of the road indie drama that played at a couple festivals (starting with the Seattle Ff in May 2010) and then sat around waiting for a distributor to throw it some love. Now Freestyle Releasing and Secret Handshake are finally getting the film into theaters this June, but a quick look at the new trailer will clue you in on what has taken so long. This might be one of the most difficult types of films to get right. This trailer isn't terrible, but there's also nothing in it to suggest the movie is very good.

Jenna Fischer is breaking free — in more ways than one.
"The Office" darling is about to bring her own spin to the small-town widow in the upcoming dramedy, "A Little Help."
Directed by "King of Queens" creator, Michael J. Weithorn, the indie flick stars Fischer as a widow adjusting to single motherhood after her philandering husband (Chris O'Donnell) unexpectedly dies — not that he was a great loss anyway. In the midst of struggling to help her (somewhat challenging) son cope, Fischer reconnects with her high school flame (Rob Benedict)—which would be great, if he weren't her sister's husband.
That's when things start to get complicated.
While the overall tone errs on the side of sugary-sweet, Fischer brings some spice to the role. This is a far cry from the doe-eyed and ever-earnest Pam.
When her son tells her, "You suck!" she replies, "You suck!" We can almost hear the parents in the audience cheering.

A quirky comedy starring Jenna Fischer from Fox Searchlight typically would make the propeller on my hat spin, and I'm not ruling out the possibility that there's more to A Little Help than evident in this trailer. But it looks slightly amateurish, like it'd come on a DVD box with a Sharpie-written cover. The cast, too, is of the bargain-basement variety, not that I don't have some affection for many of them: Richard in "Felicity," Rachel Green's Dad in "Friends," Tig in "Sons of Anarchy," that lady that was in "Weeds," Janice Soprano, a kid who looks like the kid on "Three and a Half Men" but he's not, and of course, Dick Grayson from Batman and Robin (is Chris O'Donnell even capable of playing a cad?). Honestly, I'm happiest to see Rob Benedict in a substantive role.

"Can you just tell me if I'm broke or not?" Another charming new trailer for a quirky indie comedy. Apple has debuted the official theatrical trailer for Michael J. Although we all know her from The Office, Jenna Fischer and dipped her toe into the film world with supporting roles in such films as Blades of Glory, Walk Hard, and most recently, Hall Pass. Her next film, in wihch she has a lead role, actually did a festival run in 2010 and will now see a limited release. From The King of Queens executive producer and writer Michael J. Weithorn comes A Little Help. It looks like a perfectly harmless, if predicable, light comedy. I don’t trust any recommendation from Pete Hammond, but I may eventually check this out.
Fischer stars next to Chris O’Donnell, Rob Benedict, Daniel Yelsky, Kim Coates, Brooke Smith, Lesley Ann Warren, Ron Leibman , Zach Page, Arden Myrin, Aida Turturro, Michelle Hurst , Michael J. Weithorn, Dena Hysell, and Joe Gressis. Check out the trailer and poster below via Apple.

Jenna Fischer made Scranton paper company receptionists seem adorable on The Office and now, in the directorial debut of King of Queens creator Michael J. Weithorn, Fischer tries to do the same for small-town widows. In the upcoming indie dramedy, Fischer plays a single mother who adjusts to single motherhood after her philandering husband (Chris O'Donnell) unexpectedly dies and she reconnects with her high school flame (Rob Benedict)...who also happens to be her sister's husband. As mentioned before, there were so many good films to choose from at the Phoenix Film Festival, dubbed the friendliest film festival to independent filmmakers, that it was extremely hard to catch them all. There are four specific films I will attempt to get screeners of and give a review later next week. From what I’ve heard, you’ll want to hear about them.
Unfortunately, I missed the much talked about documentaries, “Thespians” and “Wild Horse, Wild Ride”. “Thespians” is an involving tale of four acting troupes competing in the largest high school competition in the world and I heard that it did bring some grown men to tears.

A Little Help – directed by Michael J. Weithorn Festival screening times – 3/9 @ 12pm Laura (Jenna Fischer) is a dental hygienist who likes her daily alcoholic beverages almost as much as she dislikes the thought that her workaholic husband (Chris O’Donnell) is cheating on her with his new receptionist. Making matters worse is a family that’s far from the source of inspiration and support she needs. Her sister and mother (Brooke Smith and Lesley Ann Warren) judge with every breath and her father (Ron Leibman) prefers to look the other way and reminisce about the good old days. It’s not an ideal life, but she manages to trudge through it without help from anyone else. And then her husband dies while on the receiving end of a particularly enjoyable sex act. “I used to purposefully hit the ball over the fence and go ‘a little help!’” Laura’s mother and sister wait a whole two days...

Writer-producer Rina Mimoun has inked a new two-year overall deal with Warner Bros. Television.
Under the mid-seven-figure pact, Mimoun -- who created the studio's CW drama "Privileged" -- will develop series and work on existing Wbtv shows.
The deal will extend Mimoun's stay at Wbtv to a decade, during which time she also created and ran "Privileged" and worked on the studio's hourlong series "Gilmore Girls," "Pushing Daisies" and "Eastwick."
"They try to get rid of me, but I like working with them and just won't leave," she quipped, calling Wbtv president Peter Roth "the last man standing who truly loves television."

Forget being merely the side spotlight, love interest, and co-star to the hordes of funny men out there. Jenna Fischer has grabbed the top line. Variety reports that she's signed on to star in a new indie dramedy called A Little Help -- the feature directorial debut for Michael J. Weithorn (creator of King of Queens). Now you may be envisioning what sort of "help" she's going to give or get, but I bet you weren't thinking this: the film focuses on "a recently widowed single mom who reconnects with an old flame -- her sister's husband."
Yes, we're finally going to see her break out and grab the spotlight all for herself. But we get to watch her do it while stealing her sister's husband. Do we need more instigators to tap into that inner paranoia and make male-female friendships, or friendships with exes for that matter, such dangerous territory?...
