NBC, Fox, ABC and CBS all unveiled their Fall 2021 TV schedules at this week’s “upfront” presentations to advertisers – conducted virtually, due to the pandemic – showing of which new series will be added to lineups and which old favorites are returning. This also meant revealing the broadcast TV shows that won’t be making it back for the 2021-2022 season in the process.
But then there are the straggler series, the ones that networks have yet to make a decision on, even though their slates are set. The reasons behind why a show has yet to be renewed or canceled this late in the season vary, with consideration given to how many episodes it has left to air and headaches over contract negotiations.
Plus, there is the pandemic-related factors to consider.

The 100 Season 7 is here!
Sadly, this will be the last outing for The 100. CW President Mark Pedowitz confirmed during the network’s 2019 Summer TCA press tour appearance that The 100 season 7 will be the show’s final season, though it may live on in a prequel series.
As a midseason premiere, The 100 was one of the lucky shows to wrap up production before the Covid-19 hit, so we will be getting an entire season of the science fiction drama. Production on Season 7 started back up in August and wrapped in March, so the entire season is good to go, unlike some other CW productions that had to shut down production before the season finished.
Here’s our review of the latest episode, “Etherea.”
What’s next? “The Stranger.” Check out the promo below…
Here’s the synopsis…

Bellamy Blake said he follows The Shepherd and his vision for the final war, so I now follow The Shepherd and his vision for the last war.
Even though Bellamy got the chance to live out his version of a folklore adventure, the joy was short-lived.
Instead, our favorite soft representation of the show's heart had to share his Taylor Swift-inspired experience with a cult recruiter, meaning Bellamy was doomed from the start. His love morphed into trauma, which quickly became a search for answers.
But as we all know, Bellamy Blake has never done anything wrong in his entire life, and this time around is no different.
During The 100 Season 7 Episode 11, it is revealed that Anders sent Bellamy (and the Conductor) to Etherea. Bellamy's time on that planet and his attempts to get back to his loved ones are followed by a trippy cave twist and a change of allegiance.

Going back to where it all started doesn't mean you will end up in the same place, but there's also no way to escape it.
At least if you're in Skyring.
It is safe to say that history will always have a way of repeating itself.
During The 100 Season 7 Episode 2, the story explored the time Octavia and Diyoza spent on Skyring after they went into the Anomaly last time. Echo, Hope, and Gabriel arrived at Skyring and faced their future, determining what's next.
And for those keeping track, Bellamy Blake was still nowhere to be found.
The same can be said for Sanctum, since there was no insight after that twist during The 100 Season 7 Episode 1.
"The Garden," written by Jeff Vlaming, crafted a fascinating new world by blending the past and the present, all to create intrigue about the future.

We may be running out new episodes of many of our favorite TV shows, but there is one piece of TV good news: The 100 Season 7 is almost here and, as it finished production just before the production shutdowns due to Covid-19, there’s no reason to believe we won’t be getting all of it. Gearing up for The 100 Season 7 launch on May 20th, The CW has released the episode titles and synopses for the first four episodes of the final season. Here’s what we know…
The 100 Season 7 premiere is titled “From The Ashes,” and is followed by “The Garden,” “False Gods” and “Hesperides.”
“From The Ashes” — (8:00-9:00 p.m. Et)
Season Premiere – Clarke (Eliza Taylor) and her friends attempt to rebuild Sanctum as a new threat rises in the woods. Bob Morley, Marie Avgeropuolos, Lindsey Morgan, Richard Harmon, Tasya Teles, Shannon Kook, Jr Bourne, Shelby Flannery and Chuku Modu also star.

Alpha is proving itself to be a more dangerous moon than expected, mostly because of the real danger that our favorite characters are facing. Themselves.
During The 100 Season 6 Episode 2, the eclipse issue becomes a full-fledged problem when the characters on the ground start to turn on one another.
In an attempt to show how the moon may test them, other characters and the audience get a bigger look into everyone's state of mind.
Meanwhile, in space, the big answers about who is in that transport ship are answered. Sort of.
A hostage situation brings back some fan favorites like Diyoza, Madi, and Gaia. But it also starts to bridge a story about the Eliguis people and their history.
Which brings it all back to that intro, a series of flashbacks that serve as a defining background to a new population and their horrors.

Hannibal, Season 3, Episode 12, “The Number of the Beast is 666…”
Written by Jeff Vlaming & Angela Lamanna and Bryan Fuller & Steve Lightfoot
Directed by Guillermo Navarro
Airs Saturdays at 10pm (Et) on NBC
Frederick Chilton has had a rough go of it in his time on Hannibal. He makes himself an easy target—the man has learned nothing, it would seem, from his disastrous experiences with serial killers over the years—but when faced with the enormity of the Dragon, Chilton is so unabashedly human, so relatable and terrified one can’t help but feel for him. Raúl Esparza has been a delight in the role throughout his tenure on the series, often giving a comedic lift to otherwise very dour episodes and arcs, but he’s particularly impressive here. Chilton’s terrifying capture by the Dragon makes up the center of the episode, but Esparza gets much more to play than fear.

I review a handful of shows for Den of Geek. This year, I did Hannibal, Vikings, and Castle. I try to only write about shows that I really enjoy (despite reviews that might make it appear otherwise) because I’ve found that if there’s anything worse than hating on something for six or ten or twenty-three weeks, it’s making other people watch you do it.
But just because you enjoy a series doesn’t mean you don’t see the flaws. As with old friends, some flaws you accept with a quiet resignation, like the fact that Vikings will never really have the budget for the epic story it tells. Some are instead minor irritations which...

Hannibal, Season 3, Episode 9, “And the Woman Clothed with the Sun…”
Written by Jeff Vlaming & Helen Shang and Bryan Fuller & Steve Lightfoot
Directed by John Dahl
Airs Saturdays at 10pm (Et) on NBC
Despite spending plenty of time with Will and Hannibal, “And the Woman Clothed with the Sun…” focuses on the women of Hannibal, fleshing out Molly and post-“Digestivo” Alana, resurrecting Abigail and Freddie, and introducing Reba McClane. Will’s clearly shaken by his re-entry into the world of profiling and with his psyche in such a fragile state—the image of Will already seeing himself falling to pieces is foreboding, to say the least—it’s a good thing he has Molly in his life, to ground him and give him distance from his work. As in last week’s episode, Hugh Dancy and Nina Arianda’s chemistry is fantastic here and seeing Will laugh and relax a bit is wonderful.

3.2 Primavera
Boy, do I love good sleight-of-hand. And this week’s Primavera did it extremely well. But back to that in a moment.
We had been promised in PR materials that we’d learn the fate of those Hannibal butchered back in Baltimore: Jack, Alana, Will, and Abigail. But of course, it would have been unlike the patient Fuller to actually let spill all the secrets at once, so for now, narratively speaking, the status of Jack and Alana remains a mystery. Although, since we know both Lawrence Fishburne and Caroline Dhavernas are regulars this third season, it’s doubtful that either is dead—though Primavera does suggest an interesting alternate possibility for the return of Alana’s character. But what we do know is that Will and Abigail survived the attack.

Hannibal, Season 3, Episode 2, “Primavera”
Written by Jeff Vlaming and Bryan Fuller
Directed by Vincenzo Natali
Airs Thursdays at 10pm (Et) on NBC
A far cry from the sweeping romance of “Antipasto”, “Primavera” returns viewers to Will Graham and the horror of the Red Dinner, which he relives as he lies in his hospital bed. Beginning the episode with a full five to six minutes of footage directly from “Mizumono” is an odd choice by writers Jeff Vlaming and Bryan Fuller. Though the score is dramatically different—more on this in Kate’s Classical Corner—the scene that opens “Primavera” matches the season two finale almost exactly, with only a handful of shots edited differently to emphasize Will and Abigail’s experiences over Hannibal’s. On first watch, this is frustrating; we want to see what comes next, not spend an eighth of the episode on a scene that’s already emblazoned in our memory.

A review of tonight's "Hannibal" coming up just as soon as I defy God, which is my idea of a good time... "God's not who I came here to find." -Will We need to talk about the deer man, okay? Two-plus seasons into "Hannibal," I thought I had mentally prepared myself for whatever crazy visions this show wanted to put in front of me. I thought I would be some combination impressed, amused, and horrified, but that I would ultimately take it in stride as just being part of this weird and beautiful show. I thought I was ready for anything. I was wrong. The deer man(*) is the freakiest goddamn image that Bryan Fuller and company (here including co-writer Jeff Vlaming and, again, Vincenzo Natali) have given us to date. Worse than the mushroom people, or the tree man, or the human apiaries. That image is the one I...

Hannibal Season 2, Episode 11: “Ko No Mono”
Directed by David Slade
Written by Jeff Vlaming, Andrew Black, and Bryan Fuller
Airs Fridays at 10pm Et on NBC
Well surprise, surprise…but not really.
I would hasten a guess that very few of us who populate Hannibal‘s savvy audience would have fallen for this trick, laid out as it was so very carefully throughout the narrative. In any case, now the jig is up: Alana is in on the play, Freddie Lounds is indeed alive, and Jack Crawford is taking more gambits than I can count. But let’s start from the top, shall we…
The episode opens with yet another misleading sequence, although exactly how misleading the gorgeously shot Will-digo transformation/birth scene really is remains to be seen—after all, we still don’t know with any certainty who arranged the Randall exhibit, or whose body was sent...

This week's episode of Hannibal is something you can really get your teeth into...
This review contains spoilers.
2.9 Shiizakana
While Hannibal - both the character and the show - spends a lot of time contemplating some fairly lofty questions, this week’s Shiizakana - which is a substantial dish sometimes included in a Japanese multi-course meal - really gives us some things to chew on.
The show has hinted, even before the appearance of Margot Verger, that Will Graham is not exactly the first person that Hannibal has tried to groom into a killer. This week, we got a much clearer picture (to the extent that anything is truly clear on Hannibal) that, rather than this being a sideline, grooming - or training - people in certain brutal directions may in fact be Hannibal’s raison d’etre.

Hannibal Episode 202
“Sakizuke”
Written By: Jeff Vlaming and Bryan Fuller
Directed By: Tim Hunter
Original Airdate: 7 March 2014
In This Episode…
The “mosaic man” victim, Roland Umber, wakes to find himself in this hideous pile of bodies. We later learn that a lifetime of heroin use has given him a very high tolerance - the amount that killed other people was just a good buzz for him. He tears himself away from the bodies he is sewn to - literally. He is so desperate to escape that he pulls and pulls until his flesh is just ripped away from his body. With big, bloody patches of missing flesh, Roland races, naked, from the silo that held him. As he leaves, his captor drives up, and he wastes no time chasing his escaped paint swatch into the corn field. What follows is a tense cat-and-mouse chase, which ends when Roland comes to the edge of a cliff.

I'm looking for a sign of forgiveness, a specific one, a white tulip." - Walter Bishop I've gotten more than a few emails, comments, and questions on Twitter asking what happened to my write-up of Thursday evening's transcendent episode of Fringe ("White Tulip"). Due to circumstances beyond my control (namely being out both Thursday and Friday evenings), I didn't get a chance to watch this week's episode until the weekend, a real rarity in the Televisionary household. But now that I've seen the episode, written by J.H. Wyman and Jeff Vlaming and directed by Jeffrey G. Hunt, I thought I'd weigh in on what was a remarkable installment of a season of Fringe that has found its true format: intense mysteries of the week that are grounded by searing and powerful emotional arcs involving the central characters. I've been shouting at the rooftops that John Noble deserves an Emmy nomination...

Episode Title: "White Tulip"
Written By: J.H. Wyman & Jeff Vlaming
Story: Doctor Alistair Peck (Peter Weller) is a scientist who, like Walter Bishop (John Noble), has made a grave mistake in his past and is hoping to correct it with extreme measures — except instead of heading into an alternate universe, Peck has been going backwards in time due to some serious interior designing on his own body.
But Peck's motivations, while pure, come at the expense of innocent bystanders. As a result, Olivia Dunham (Anna Torv) and the rest of the Fringe team are sent to stop the scientist, but how can they defeat a man with unlimited access to a reset button?
Time Travel Is All Weller Good: Peter Weller has gone from RoboCop to Time Cop all within one hour of science fiction, though to be fair, Peck wasn't much so much a physical threat as he was a mental one.

Episode Title: "Johari Window"
Written By: Jeff Vlaming
Synopsis: When a young boy with a monstrous face accidentally leads to the death of three police officers, the Fringe team sets off to the remote town of Edina, New York to investigate. Walter Bishop (John Noble), still traumatized from his own recent abduction, deduces that the boy is a metamorph, causing his physical appearance to oscillate between normal and grotesque. Eventually, Walter, Olivia (Anna Torv) and Peter (Joshua Jackson) begin to realize just how far the metamorph phenomenon extends.
Project Elephant: The mystery of the week was something of a combo package, evoking elements from "Children of the Corn" and "The Hills Have Eyes" to great effect. There were some genuinely suspenseful scenes — the opening in the police station and Peter's forest shoot-out come to mind — that were unfortunately balanced out by some predictable twists, such as the whole town being exposed to the metamorph-inducing electromagnetism.

Now that's what I call a fantastic episode of Fringe. While I've been pushing the series' producers to shift towards a sleeker serialized format for the series since its inception, last night's episode of Fringe ("Earthling"), written by J.H. Wyman and Jeff Vlaming and directed by Jon Cassar, was the perfect compromise: a self-contained mystery of the week that also served to deepen the characters. Or one character in particular, the enigmatic head of Fringe Division, Phillip Broyles (The Wire's Lance Reddick). I've been on a tirade since the very first episode of the first season that we still know next to nothing about both Broyles and lab assistant Astrid Farnsworth (Jasika Nicole) so I'm glad that the writers are finally giving some layering to both of them, who have served more or less the thankless roles of exposition dumps until now. Last night's mystery had the Fringe Division attempting...

Episode Title: "Earthling"
Written By: J.H. Wyman & Jeff Vlaming
Synopsis: People in and around hospitals are found dead with their bodies partially or wholly turned to ash — and while there's nothing unusual about people dying in unusual ways around the Fringe Unit's Agent Olivia Dunham (Anna Torv), Peter Bishop (Joshua Jackson) and his father Dr. Walter Bishop (John Noble), there is something unusual for head honcho Philip Broyles (Lance Reddick), who dealt with this specific phenomenon in an earlier life-altering case.
Alien Territory: If the title "Earthling" didn't give it away, then here it is: "Fringe" finally dealt with the topic of extraterrestrial life. Now, it's not completely clear that this "shadow man" — which is some sort of shadowy astral projection that turns people to ash upon contact — is an alien, but that's certainly the implication based on its connection to an astronaut and the fact that the organism is...
