Welcome to Fright Night! Before making his directorial debut in 1985 with the original Fright Night, Tom Holland was just getting started establishing himself as one of the Masters of Horror. Prior to creating his modern twist on Rear Window with vampires, Holland was a genre writer coming off of a hot streak of well-performing scripts including The Beast Within, Class of 1984, Psycho II and Cloak & Dagger.
When Holland created the story of Fright Night, he knew he needed to be at the helm of the project since the film was essentially his love letter to the genre he's always loved. Once Fright Night hit theaters on August 2, 1985, Holland was well on his way to be one of the most respected horror filmmakers of his time.
Despite a somewhat limited release on only 1,545 screens nationwide, Fright Night managed to be the sleeper genre hit of the year, second only to...

If you've seen the "Fright Night" trailers or are familiar with the '85 cult classic, you know this is not your run-of-the-mill vampire movie — at least by today's "Twilight" standards, anyway. There are no swoony undead to be found in this horror-comedy — just a lot of blood and plenty of laughs.
Here at MTV News, we've been amped about the film from the get-go, and even featured it as part of our exclusive Sneak Peek Week leading up to the Movie Awards. The film stars Colin Farrell as a bloodthirsty vampire who heads to suburbia and terrorizes his next-door neighbor Charley, played by "Star Trek" veteran Anton Yelchin. I am likely one of very few critics that sat down to watch Craig Gillespie’s Fright Night having not seen Tom Holland’s 1985 original first, but upon doing so after, feel I’ve unintentionally done myself a great service. Now that I’ve seen it, the original is a great film; Chris Sarandon’s Jerry Dandrige and Roddy McDowall’s Peter Vincent are uniquely them, the tone and pace a perfect example of eighties horror done right – smart and campy all at once. Like most re-makes/re-imaginings, if the original felt good and was a part of my film collage growing up, it would have colored my perception of the new offering by default. This certainly isn’t bad, but it’s not always the best way to approach something new. I am glad then that in putting the cart before the horse, I was able to appreciate and have a good bit of fun with...

In 1985, William Ragsdale and Roddy McDowall took suburban vampire hunting to the next level in "Fright Night." Now the cult classic is getting a 21st century facelift in the form of Colin Farrell as the seductive bloodsucker named Jerry who's making local teens disappear.
Filling Ragsdale and McDowall's shoes are Anton Yelchin as Charley and David Tennant as Peter Vincent, and taking over Stephen Geoffreys's duties as the irrepressible "Evil" Ed Thompson is "Superbad" star Christopher Mintz-Plasse.
Can Pavel Chekov and Dr. Who save the townsfolk before they all get fanged by Jerry? Find out on Friday when "Fright Night" gets you out of the sunlight and into the theater for some vampire-staking fun -- and get ready with the three clips below.
1. Neighborly Chat. A terrifying vision of what a sex education class with Colin Farrell might be like.

Christopher Mintz-Plasse has had a pretty amazing career, from his memorable role as McLovin' in Superbad to "Red Mist" in Kick-Ass. Next up he'll be starring as the 2011 version of "Evil" Ed Thompson in Dreamworks' Fright Night 3D arriving in theaters Friday. Of all of the typecast geeks in Hollywood, Mintz-Plasse is the perfect youngin' to play Ed this very necessary and clever remake, and inside you'll find a video teaser of our exclusive chat where he tells just that to Bloody's Chris Eggertsen. Charlie Brewster (Anton Yelchin) is a high school senior whos on top of the worldthat is until Jerry (Colin Farrell) moves in next door and Charlie discovers that he is a vampire preying on the neighborhood.

Don't be surprised if Craig Gillespie's new, updated Fright Night bears only partial resemblance to the 1985 cult horror-comedy of the same name; with a suburban Las Vegas setting, a much cooler teen protagonist, and a modern milieu filled with iPods and 4G-equipped cell phones, the tale of a high schooler's (Anton Yelchin) battle against the seductive vampire who moves in next door (Colin Farrell) is more like a slick second-cousin to the totally '80s Chris Sarandon/William Ragsdale-starring original. And as such, 22-year-old Christopher Mintz-Plasse isn't your parents' "Evil" Ed Thompson. Far from it.

Is Robert Pattinson really Hollywood’s reigning vampire? Popsugar spoke with Fright Night star Christopher Mintz-Plasse who plays “Evil” Ed Thompson in the 2011 remake and he reveals he has no intention of battling Twilight‘s Robert Pattinson any time soon.
“I’m going to have to say Edward Cullen,” Christopher responds when asked who’d win in a fight. “Because I’ve met Pattinson in real life and he’s in much better shape than I am, he’ll take me down in both ways.”
Rob definitely has killer abs and of course his luscious locks could win any battle. But do you think Christopher is selling himself short?

We've just now landed a fourth clip from Fright Night 3D that gives you a tour of Peter Vincent's (David Tenenat) "collection" of vampire artifacts that includes his degree from an online vamp course. In addition, there's an extended clip where the new "Evil" Ed Thompson (Christopher Mintz-Plasse) chats with Charlie Brewster (Anton Yelchin) about his new neighbor. Directed by Craig Gillespie for release on August 19, the remake to Tom Holland's classic embraces its R-rating, and has been hoping to gain the attention of Twilight haters. "Senior Charlie Brewster (Anton Yelchin) finally has it all going on: hes running with the popular crowd and dating the most coveted girl in his high school. In Fright Night 3D Christopher Mintz-Plasse (Kick-Ass) portrays “Evil” Ed Thompson, the geeky best friend of Charlie Brewster (Anton Yelchin) who struggles with losing his buddy to a new hot girlfriend (Imogen Poots) and has the unfortunate luck of discovering that Charlie’s new neighbor, Jerry Dandridge (Colin Farrell), is a blood-sucking vampire.

Vampire comedy remake Fright Night’s release is just around the corner, and to advertise the fact, there’s a new trailer for you to watch…
The 1985 original will take some beating, but director Craig Gillespie’s decided to sink his teeth into a Fright Night remake anyway – and to be fair, he’s managed to assemble a sterling cast for this reimagining of a horror comedy classic. The excellent Anton Yelchin replaces William Ragsdale in the lead role of schoolboy Charley Brewster, while Colin Farrell plays the sleazy vampire next door, Jerry Dandridge.
Elsewhere, there’s David Tennant as a Las Vegas magician, and Christopher Mintz-Plasse as Yelchin’s best friend, Evil Ed Thompson. Judging by the trailer, the starry cast acquits itself well, though there are one or two scenes here that look worryingly like the production ran out of light bulbs midway through filming.

Colin Farrell was a busy man at Comic-Con. One minute he was introducing footage from Fright Night, the next he was shimmying across the San Diego Convention Center to talk Total Recall. We'd like to think he followed that up by slipping into his Chewbacca costume to roam the exhibition floor, though he's probably more of a Boba Fett kinda guy. Both of his movies are shaping up to be stupid amounts of fun, and this new international trailer for Craig Gillespie's horror remake only amps up our anticipation levels still further. The new Fright Night promo squeezes in plenty of jugular-chewing, tooling up and Vegas-set carnage. Initially it plays like a flighty high-school drama, with Charley Brewster (Anton Yelchin) and 'Evil' Ed Thompson (Christopher Mintz-Plasse) hanging out and squabbling as friends do, before a sudden shift in tone and, bang, the dark heart of the film, Farrell's Jerry Danbridge,...

Having rewatched the the original recently I can say it's aged but still much loved. So the idea of a remake/update was exciting to me. After seeing the trailer it's clear it's going be a much darker film.
Craig Gillespie (Lars and the Real Girl, United States of Tara) talked about why we wanted to direct the film. Gillespie is a fan of the original and spoke about how it burned images into his head. Gillespie read the script for the new film "cold" and was impressed by the humor and how easy it was to visualize.
Marti Noxon (Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Mad Men) shared how it was difficult to return to writing about vampires because "After Buffy it seems hard to top." She wanted to update the story because the world has evoked a lot since the original. Noxon also wanted to write a film in which...

In the following new clip from Dreamworks' Fright Night 3D Charlie Brewster (Anton Yelchin) scoffs at best friend 'Evil' Ed Thompson's (Christopher Mintz-Plasse) suggestion that his neighbor is "like the shark from Jaws." It takes a jab at Twilight, which I guess is they're way of proclaiming they're an R-rated horror film. The new-look Fright Night, given a modern shake by DreamWorks, promises to give the tail-end of our summer a splash of bloody carnage. Whether it'll mirror hard-to-nail tongue-in-cheek tone of the original or lurch towards altogether darker shades remains to be seen. The trailer suggested (b), while the cocked eyebrows and coy looks in these new banners says (a). The massed ranks of fandom will be the first to find out. The movie is making its official bow at Comic-Con next month, with the tooled-up quartet - Colin Farrell, Imogen Potts, Anton Yelchin and David Tennant - popping up in San Diego to talk about the movie and hopefully thrash out a correct spelling for the word 'neighbor' 'neighbour'. After a variety of pictures hit the ‘net – with one or two cropping up exclusively in Empire itself – we’re finally getting a chance to see moving footage from Fright Night, starring Colin Farrell, Anton Yelchin, Christopher Mintz-Plasse and Imogen Poots. Take a look at the trailer below.Directed by Craig Gillespie and scripted by former Buffy writer Marti Noxon, this new take on the 1985 Tom Holland horror comedy finds Yelchin inheriting the role of Charley Brewster, your average smart teenager who comes to realise that his new neighbour, Jerry Dandridge (Farrell) might be something less than average himself.Spurred on by his horror-obsessed pal “Evil” Ed Thompson (Mintz-Plasse), Charley becomes convinced that Jerry is a vampire and that he’s got designs on various local women, including Charley’s mum Jane (Toni Collette) and girlfriend Amy (Poots). So our hero enlists the help of Ott stage magician Peter Vincent (David Tennant,...

Tom Holland’s Fright Night is not only a modern horror classic, it’s a movie that this writer holds near and dear to her heart. A film I’ve probably seen well over 1,000 times in my lifetime and could list by memory every cast and crew member and quote every line of dialogue until I’m blue in the face.
Fright Night to me has always been sacred territory, and since it is one of the movies that was partially responsible for my lifelong love affair with the horror genre, the upcoming remake is something I’m taking very seriously.
Recently Dread Central was invited by DreamWorks to an edit bay visit in Santa Monica where we not only screened 20 minutes of the movie in 3D, we were able to sit down to catch up with director Craig Gillespie and the film’s stars Colin Farrell and Anton Yelchin...

While James Franco is off the handle multiple processing tasks, his brother Dave Franco may be going to draw attention.
According to Deadline the 25-year-old has just signed on to play the villain in the upcoming movie reboot of the popular ’80s TV show, 21 Jump Street.
It’s rumored that Johnny Depp, one of the show’s original stars, may possibly take off his pirate hat to make a cameo in the pic!
In addition, Jonah Hill and Channing Tatum have both signed on to the feature, despite that none of them look like teenagers. But let’s be honest: It wouldn’t really be Hollywood if thirty-somethings weren’t playing high-scholars.
Before this big break the youngest Franco has a few small roles in flicks like Greg Mottola’s awarded comedy Superbad and Noah Baumbach’s nominated comedy-drama Greenberg, as well as a starring role in the largely not-so-prized final season of Scrubs,...

Director Craig Gillespie's (Lars and the Real Girl) new movie, Fright Night, an updated remake of the 1985 comedy-horror classic about a boy who believes his next door neighbor is a blood-sucking vampire, wrapped in October of last year and we finally have our first sneak peak at the movie in the form of three new still images. Unfortunately, the stills are not HD-quality, but they still give us our first looks at Anton Yelchin as the new Charlie Brewster, Christopher Mintz-Plasse as the new "Evil" Ed Thompson, Imogen Poots as the new Amy Peterson, and Colin Farrell as the new Jerry Dandridge, the aforementioned vampire next door.

The Craig Gillepsie-directed remake of Fright Night had only one major part to cast for its retelling of the 1985 horror classic. That role was that of Yelchin's girlfriend Amy, and Slashfilm reports that 28 Weeks Later actress Imogen Poots has been cast in the role.
Previously reported, Anton Yelchin will play the teenage Charlie Brewster, who discovers his neighbor is a vampire (Colin Farrell) and enlists the help of a 'vampire expert' when his girlfriend and best friend fall prey to the undead bloodsucker. Toni Collete is cast as Charlie's mother, Christopher Mintz-Plasse and David Tennant recently joined the cast as Yelchin's friend "Evil" Ed Thompson and Peter Vincent, a magician and self-proclaimed expert on vampires.
According to the report, the remake will stray from the original a little by having Mintz-Plasse's Ed discover the vampire instead of Yelchin's Charlie, and Collette's character will be more involved in the story than in the original.

Two more ahve joined the cast of the remake of Fright Night (one of my favorite horror movies growing up), the movie about a boy who thinks his neighbor is a vampire and seeks the help of a horror television host to rid his neighborhood of the threat.Least that's what the original was about. This new one replaces the old horror host (originally played by Roddy McDowell) with a sort of Chriss Angel type rock and roll dude to be played by Doctor Who's David Tennant. The role of Charlie friend "Evil" Ed Thompson will be played by Christopher Mintz-Plasse.THR has the exclusive:David Tennant, best known for starring in the BBC series “Doctor Who,” and Christopher Mintz-Plasse are joining the cast of “Fright Night,” DreamWorks’ remake of the cult 1985 film. Tennant and Mintz-Plasse join Anton Yelchin as Charlie, a teen convinced that his new neighbor (Colin Farrell) is a vampire.

A Red Mist is descending on Dreamworks' unlikely horror remake: Christopher Mintz-Plasse will co-star in Fright Night as "Evil" Ed Thompson, the best friend of Anton Yelchin's Charlie, who becomes a bloodsucking freak at the teeth of Colin Farrell's vampire overlord Jerry. Former Doctor Who David Tennant has also been cast as Peter Vincent, the role played in the original by Roddy McDowell. The idea had earlier been mooted that the original Fright Night might exist as a film within this film, with Chris Sarandon playing himself in the McDowell role. The idea now though is that Vincent, previously a late-night-tv horror host, is a stage magician who uses horror imagery in his act and claims to be a vampire expert. He's less than helpful when Yelchin turns to him for advice. It's a big foray into Hollywood for Tennant, after a couple of false starts (a TV...
