Sony Pictures’ Spider-Man side of the Marvel Cinematic Universe has been weaving a web of sequels and spinoff projects to increasingly intricate effect. Compounding that, the apparent plot connectivity of the untitled Spider-Man 3 and Marvel Studios’ subsequent sequel, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, seems destined to shift the shared continuity on a dimensional level. Thus, questions have been raised by Sony’s latest shift for the Jared Leto-starring spinoff, Morbius, which is now on schedule for January 2022. This places the vampire film one month after the Spider-Man threequel’s December 2021 release.
The Morbius migration—the second such shift in just under a fortnight and its fourth delay overall—was a necessary retreat in the aftermath of yet another move by a bigger franchise fish in MGM’s James Bond sequel, No Time to Die, which abandoned its Easter weekend theatrical release plans for the more Covid vaccine-permeated date of Oct.

Sony has again delayed the theatrical release of “Morbius,” the Jared Leto superhero movie that’s an offshoot of a “Spider-Man” comics character.
The movie was most recently slated for a release on March 19, but “Morbius” will now open on October 8, 2021. “Morbius” was originally scheduled for as far back as July 31 of 2020 but is one of many films that have had to shuffle on the theatrical release slate due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
Leto in the film is a pseudo-vampire named Michael Morbius who has an “overpowering urge to consume blood” after he tries to cure himself of a rare blood disease, and the standalone film comes after the box office success of “Venom,” which itself is expecting a sequel later this summer.
Daniel Espinosa is directing with a cast that also includes Tyrese Gibson, Matt Smith and Jared Harris. Matt Sazama and Burk Sharpless wrote the screenplay based on...

In the comic books, brother-sister duo Daimon and Satana Hellstrom, created by Roy Thomas for Marvel Comics back in 1973, share between them powers and abilities ranging from standard to supernatural, an ancestry that traces back to Satan himself, and a level of devilish flair befitting their heritage. Daimon rides a flaming chariot drawn by winged horses and wields a hell-forged trident.

Just in time for this Sunday’s premiere of “Batwoman” on The CW, we’ve compiled a list of other memorable and bad-ass superheroines. From “Wonder Woman” to “Captain Marvel,” here are some super-women you don’t want to mess with.
Wonder Woman
Whether you met her first in DC Comics, played by Linda Carter in the 1970s, or played by Gal Gadot in Patty Jenkin’s 2017 hit film, if you know only one name on this list, chances are it’s this one. Created in 1941 by William Moulton Marston and H.G. Peter, Wonder Woman is the immortal, super-strong, magical genius daughter of Zeus and Hippolyta. After moving to the world of mortals as an emissary of the Amazons, she fights for justice and equality solo and as a founding member of the Justice League against a rogues list that includes literal gods and colorful criminals like Cheetah. Injustice: Gods Among Us was a bit of a surprise hit video game – a successful fighting game with an engaging story from the people who gave the world the S-Tier cartoonish gore of the Mortal Kombat franchise. It was then turned into an even bigger surprise: a creatively and financially successful tie-in comic that massively expanded the universe of the game, telling the story of the five years preceding the game and bringing in multiple Lantern corps, magic users, and gods from DC’s mythical universe. DC has decided to follow up on that popularity with another expansion.
Injustice: Year Zero is a digital first book from the team that nailed the original series: Tom Taylor writing, with Rogê Antônio, Cian Tormey, Rain Beredo and Wes Abbott on art. The first three chapters are available now on Comixology. The series also has cover art from Eisner-nominated Julian Totino Tedesco.

DC’s Stargirl has been delivering heartfelt action and deep cut characters since it first hit screens in May. Over the past couple of months we’ve fallen head over heels for the heroine and her gang of ragtag teen superheroes. But as much as we adore the burgeoning, bumbling Justice Society, the other thing that Stargirl has excelled in is introducing lesser known villains, building an impressively chilling gallery of rogues who make up the show’s Injustice Society.
The newest addition to that motley crew is Nelson Lee’s Dragon King. The terrifying masked scientist is not only the father of Courtney’s new arch-nemesis, Cindy Burman, but also appears to be the ringleader of the Injustice Society and presents a horrifying new threat for the team.

At the end of last week we lost another of industry legend. Denny O’Neil passed away on June 11th of natural causes. He leaves behind in comics quite the legacy. Denny had a three decade spanning career that took in writing and editor duties at both DC and Marvel, as well as making stops at Charlton Comics and finding time to write novels.
If you have read a DC or Marvel comic from the 60’s to the 90’s there is a strong chance you have read a Denny O’Neil comic. His career began in 1966, after the suggestion by his friend Roy Thomas, that he take the writers test for Marvel. The test involved adding dialogue to a four page Fantastic Four comic and Stan Lee liked his submission and gave him some work. Dennis Joseph “Denny” O’Neil, the writer and editor who redefined the Batman, the Joker, Green Arrow, the Shadow, and the Question for the modern era; created or co-created R’as al Ghul, OPtimus Prime, Azrael, Leslie Tompkins, Madame Web, Richard Dragon, and Lady Shiva; and was a beloved contributor to ComicMix, has passed away at the age of 81.
He started his career in comics almost by accident, when Roy Thomas suggested that O’Neil take the Marvel writer’s test, which involved adding dialogue to a wordless four-page excerpt of a Fantastic Four comic. O’Neil’s entry resulted in Lee offering O’Neil a job. O’Neil had never considered writing for comics, and later said he’d done the test “kind of as a joke. I had a couple of hours on a Tuesday afternoon, so instead of doing crossword puzzles, I did the writer’s test.

Moviegoers have now seen Captain Marvel team up with a range of heroes on the big screen, from Captain America to Thor to Spider-Man to a bunch of her fellow heroines. But did you know that Carol Danvers and Wolverine go way back in the comics? It’s true, and the unlikely duo’s history will be revisited in an upcoming issue, with the cover of Captain Marvel #17 – due out this April – teasing Carol and Logan fighting side by side once again.
The pair’s friendship actually goes back to Carol’s origins in the Marvel universe. In this capacity, Carol worked alongside many familiar faces, such as Nick Fury and Logan. Both then went their separates ways, as Carol gained Kree powers and Logan became involved with the Weapon X program.

In the first trailer for Marvel’s “Morbius,” Jared Leto sheds his “Joker” persona as he transforms into the vampiresque super villain.
Based on the comic books created by Roy Thomas and Gil Kane in 1971, the antagonist’s origin story follows Michael Morbius (Leto), a biochemist in search of a cure for his rare blood disease. However, he accidentally injects himself with vampirism, giving him bat-like superpowers like echo-location and an insatiable thirst for blood. “Lost in Space” co-creators Matt Sazama and Burk Sharpless wrote the script.
The vengeful vampire appeared periodically throughout the Marvel franchise. He made his first appearance in a 1971 issue of “The Amazing Spider-Man,” and was eventually brought back in the 1992 series, “Morbius, the Living Vampire.” The revival produced 32 issues before ending in 1995.
Adria Arjona stars alongside Leto as the villain’s fiancee Martine Bancroft. Jared Harris, Matt Smith, and Tyrese Gibson round out the cast.

Dr. Michael Morbius isn't your grandmother's vampire. Sony's Jared Leto-led film has finally dropped its first trailer, and it's chillingly scary. The Oscar winner stars as the convoluted antihero Michael Morbius, a doctor whose illness leads him down a dark path of no return. Stricken with a rare blood disorder, Morbius desperately searches for a cure to save others from suffering a similar fate. But when he undergoes an experimental treatment that turns him into a living vampire, he discovers that "the remedy is worse than the disease."
Created by Roy Thomas and Gil Kane, Michael Morbius first appeared in 1971's The Amazing Spider-Man #101. The character joined Spider-Man's ever-rotating gang of villains before taking a turn for the antihero, similar to Sony's Venom. Out of all of the superheroes in the Marvel universe, Spider-Man's lineup of villains is perhaps the most eclectic, intriguing, and horrifying. Following the success of Sony's Venom, the studio is wasting no time developing other characters in Spider-Man's cinematic universe, and they've now officially unveiled the first teaser trailer for Morbius, including a look at the title character's vampiric transformation.
Directed by Daniel Espinosa from a screenplay by Matt Sazama & Burk Sharpless and Art Marcum & Matt Holloway (based on the Marvel Comics character), Morbius stars Jared Leto, Matt Smith, Adria Arjona, Jared Harris, Al Madrigal, and Tyrese Gibson. Executive produced by Louise Rosner and produced by Matt Tolmach, Avi Arad, and Lucas Foster, Morbius is slated for a July 31st theatrical release.
For those unfamiliar with the character, Morbius the Living Vampire, aka Dr. Michael Morbius, is a scientist who accidentally transformed himself into a bloodthirsty creature of the night.

Pseudo vampire Jared Leto has “an overpowering urge to consume blood” in the first trailer for Sony’s “Morbius.” Watch the video above.
“Morbius” is one of several projects being developed by Sony based on characters from the “Spider-Man” comics. The franchise paid dividends for the studio in 2018 with “Venom,” which grossed $855 million worldwide, and “Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse,” which grossed $327 million and earned a Best Animated Feature Oscar last year. Both films have sequels in the works.
Daniel Espinosa directed “Morbius” from a script by Matt Sazama and Burk Sharpless. Avi Arad, Matt Tolmach and Lucas Foster produced the film with Palak Patel overseeing for the studio.

As soon as you start reading/collecting comics you will soon learn one of the hottest topics is fantasy fights. We have all been in a conversation that starts with “Who would win in a fight…?” A lot of the time this world of fantasy pits hero against hero! We can trace our fascination with this subject back to such classic comics as Marvel Mystery Comics #8-#9. Billed as Fire vs Water when the original Human Torch faced off against Namor The Sub Mariner. Then there is DC Comics Presents #1-#2 which finally saw Superman and The Flash race! Well today I bring you another titanic clash as I pit two noble teams of heroes against each other in a fabled price war. In the 70′s and 80′s these two teams represented the pinnacle of story telling for their respective publishers. They went toe-to-toe in the sales charts each and every month.

Let’s be honest here, Michael Morbius has had several shots at solo stardom down the years and none have really taken. He’s a perfectly decent supporting character or guest star, but suffers from the same problems that all ‘fad’ characters do. Originally just created as a throwaway Spider-Man villain by Roy Thomas and Gil Kane way back in 1971, mainly as a way of enjoying the new ‘horror characters are no longer banned’ loosening of the comic code, he had a decent run in the 1970′s as a recurring villain then a tragic anti-hero, in the vein of Werewolf By Night and other Marvel horror characters. He then fell back into semi-obscurity before the horror revival in the early 1990′s saw him get his own book for a time. So why a relaunch now? I’m sure...

More characters from Robert E. Howard will join Conan the Barbarian in the Marvel Universe.
Marvel Comics has signed a deal to bring more of Conan the Barbarian creator Robert E. Howard’s works to Marvel. Since Conan arrived back at Marvel earlier this year, the company has had great success with the most savage hero of all. Marvel has delighted fans’ bloodlust with both Conan the Barbarian by Jason Aaron and Savage Sword of Conan by a rotating group of bloodthirsty creators. Marvel has also featured Conan leading ladies Belit and Valeria in the Age of Conan series as well as bringing Conan into the Marvel Universe in the pages of Savage Avengers. Conan and Punisher is a thing I never knew I wanted until I got it.
But now the bloody bond between Marvel and Robert E. Howard’s greatest creation is about to get a whole lot bigger.

We all know the classics. Frank Miller’s Daredevil run, Chris Claremont’s epic run on Uncanny X-Men with John Byrne and Dave Cockrum among others. Bill Sienkiewicz taking over New Mutants and making the comics world sit up. What I am going to do this week is look at some legendary creators and their first Marvel works and a few key first issues. Also included are some first Marvel works by a few legends and a few creators best known for DC work. In a future installment I switch it up and do DC firsts. Being some what a writer myself I am going to start with Chris Claremont because from there I can go on a tangent to the Image guys who all had their early success on X titles before going on to launch Image Comics. Claremont was a gofer in the Marvel bullpen for a good...

I remember reading recently that DC Comics top brass were a little miffed that their more recent stuff is still being outsold by their older stuff. Like classic coke beating new coke, the people at the top always seem to be the last to grasp what makes their ‘product’ both accessible and in demand. The reason the old stuff sells better, for both DC and Marvel, is that back in the day the publishers knew their audience, knew the level at which they were pitching their books. As that audience aged, so did the books tone and content, though still with a healthy taste for nostalgia in there too. Which, don’t worry I am going somewhere with this, will bring me into the reason books like this one need to exist. Having read books since the late 70′s, my...

Kit Harington will play Dane Whitman, Marvel's Black Knight in the Eternals movie. Here's what you need to know about the character.
You Know Nothing…about the Black Knight.
Get it? Because the Black Knight is being played by Kit Harington? You know, the dude that played Jon Snow on Game of Thrones? So like, “you know nothing…” Ah, forget it.
Ahem.
So it seems that the Black Knight is joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe in The Eternals. This is a bit surprising considering that the classic Marvel Comics Black Knight really has very little to do with the world of the Eternals. But, Dane Whitman, the Avenger known as the Black Knight, is a great character with a rich and surprising history that stretches back to the early days of Marvel. Kit Harington’s Marvel Cinematic Universe role is out: The “Game of Thrones” star will play Dane Whitman, better known as the Black Knight, in “The Eternals.”
The news was announced Saturday at Disney’s biennial D23 Expo in Anaheim, California.
Created in 1966 by writer-editor Roy Thomas, and artists John Verpoorten and George Tuska, the Black Knight is one of Marvel’s more obscure characters and rather unique among his superheroic peers.

It looks like Millennium Films’ feature film adaptation of Red Sonja is back on track. The production company has hired the creator of Amazon’sTransparent, Jill Soloway, to write and direct the film. She will replace Bryan Singer who was fired after several serious sexual misconduct allegations were made against him.
I never thought that Singer was the right filmmaking to take on Red Sonja, but I have no idea if Soloway is the right person to take it on either. I’m not really familiar with any of her recent work, but I liked what she did on Six Feet Under. So, I guess we’ll have to wait and see how she handles the character and story.

Jill Soloway, creator of the Emmy and Golden Globe-winning Amazon Prime series “Transparent,” is taking the reigns on “Red Sonja,” Deadline is reporting. Soloway will start from scratch on the controversy-embroiled project, taking over writing and directing responsibilities from Bryan Singer, who was rumored to have been fired from the project in March following allegations of sexual misconduct against the director. Soloway’s Topple Productions partner Andrea Sperling will also come on board as a producer.
“I can’t wait to bring Red Sonja’s epic world to life,” Soloway said. “Exploring this powerful mythology and evolving what it means to be a heroine is an artistic dream come true.”

“Transparent” creator Jill Soloway is taking the reins of the troubled “Red Sonja” feature film, coming on to write and direct the comic-book adaptation.
Development of the project was put on hold in February as after accusations of sexual misconduct against director Bryan Singer resurfaced. At the time, Millennium Films dropped plans to shoot “Red Sonja” in Bulgaria later this year.
Singer, who was fired from the set of “Bohemian Rhapsody,” was initially tapped to direct “Red Sonja” for Millennium in September 2018. Following an expose in The Atlantic in January, which detailed four accounts from men accusing Singer of sexual misconduct, Singer’s attachment became precarious.

The world didn’t see the first big screen adaptation of the X-Men until the year 2000 under the direction of Bryan Singer. But that wasn’t the first attempt to bring the X-Men characters to the big screen. In the 1980s Marvel was pushing for one to be made.
Thanks to Polygon we have some details on the history of the project, which was inspired by the success of Richard Donner’s Superman. Marvel Comics was blowing up at the time, and Stan Lee was ready to start bringing their characters to the big screen.
Lee ended up sending out a Marvel ambassador, Alice Donenfeld-Vernoux, to the studios to try and spark some interest. There were a lot of rejections along way, but a Canadian studio called Nelvana, who was known for their animation work, saw the potential in an X-Men movie, and that’s what they wanted to do.

I think it is fair to say after eleven years and twenty two movies the McU very much became its own entity. It was successful enough and brave enough to tell its own stories. While Avengers: Endgame is busy making millions I have seen lots of tweets reminding people not to forget the comic book roots of these characters and the creators or created them for so little pay and credit. So what I want to do here is give some reading suggestions for stories that inspired important moments in the McU. Also it will give me a chance to talk about the pricing up Tpb’s or hardcovers on eBay, because so far a lot of my time has been spent focusing on single issues. I did have a very cool idea to highlight some single issues that are key to Avengers: Endgame but as we are still in...

Today we have the first photo from the set of Morbius, courtesy of Tyrese Gibson. Check out the shot of him with director Daniel Espinosa below.
Jared Leto stars in the Spider-Man Universe spinoff based on the Marvel Comics antihero Morbius the Living Vampire. The Oscar winner and Suicide Squad alum plays Dr. Michael Morbius, a biochemist who attempts to cure a fatal blood disease by injecting himself with a treatment serum derived from bats. In becoming Morbius, he has all the qualities of a vampire — including a taste for human blood.
Adria Arjona, Jared Harris and Gibson also star in the Sony Pictures film, which is set to hit theaters on July 31, 2020.
In the comics, Martine (Arjona) is engaged to Morbius and becomes a potential victim to his bloodlust as he grapples with the transformation that has made him a weird laboratory version of the supernatural vampires of lore.
