Sure, 28 Oscar nominations and 17 wins aren’t to be sniffed at. But the remarkable thing about Peter Jackson‘s “The Lord of the Rings” trilogy is that it should have been nominated for more. Only one of the cast was nominated for an Oscar across all three films — that was for Best Supporting Actor for Sir Ian McKellen in 2002 for “The Fellowship of the Ring” — while there were a few other curious snubs that, in hindsight, just don’t make sense. So, there was actually more room to nominate this rightly-heralded trilogy of astounding films. With that in mind, here are five more Oscar nominations “The Lord of the Rings” should have landed.
Best Original Score: “The Two Towers”
The music of “The Lord of the Rings” has gone down as one of the best scores ever committed to film. Howard Shore‘s adored score is so top drawer it leaves you clamoring for more.

What if Sally Bowles was in Hair? What if Sweeney Todd got with Miss Hannigan?
These are the scenarios on Schmigadoon! Season 2 Episode 4.
Written by Raina Morris and directed by Alice Matthias, it's the darkest of anything we've seen in the Schmigaverse.
It gets heavy and melancholy but also gives us some truly tender and real moments. Life (and times) is hard, after all -- it's not all just song and dance. Even musicals aren't all happy anymore.
The scene between Melissa and Jenny was quite moving. It was just a traumatized girl with a friend trying to help her. There were no laughs, just a reminder of how broken and unhappy these characters are.
We haven't given costume designer Angus Strathie as much acknowledgment as he deserves.
Across the board, his costumes have been outstanding, but this episode had some fantastic pieces, namely Melissa's tangerine dream and Miss Codwell's yellow floral frock.

Catherine Martin, wife and creative partner of Baz Luhrmann, is the winningest Australian in the history of the Academy Awards. She has earned nine nominations — including three this year for costume design, production design and best picture for Elvis — and has won four times. She first caught Oscar’s attention in 1997, when she received an art direction nom for Luhrmann’s Romeo + Juliet. Their next project, Moulin Rouge!, was a musical about star-crossed lovers (Nicole Kidman and Ewan McGregor) in 1890s Paris.
The movie divided critics: THR wrote after the film’s May 2001 Cannes premiere, “all [Luhrmann] has is a confection of old Hollywood musicals and Technicolor melodramas. It’s not enough. While clearly an unconventional musical, the pastiche of old songs — ranging from Rodgers and Hammerstein to disco to Elton John — is likely to turn off young moviegoers.” But audiences warmed to it (the film grossed $57.4 million at the U.

“Chilling Adventures of Sabrina” has about a dozen different ideas of what it wants to do and be, but one thing is for certain: the show is, above all, spooky as hell.
And yes, I do mean “as hell” literally. The new Netflix series drags its heroine to the underworld and back, wreaking havoc with blunt and gruesome heft, reminding us at every given turn that this “Sabrina” is not at all like the peppy ABC comedy that tweens once spent their Fridays with. Based on a recent twist of a Archie comic series by creator Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa, “Chilling Adventures of Sabrina” takes obvious delight in perverting every ounce of its once wholesome source material.
Just about the only thing this Sabrina (played with a determined spark by “Mad Men’s” Kiernan Shipka) shares with her original incarnation are her aunts Hilda (Lucy Davis) and Zelda (Miranda Otto), a wary black cat,...

Nothing is more frustrating than watching a film with so much potential make one disastrous mistake after another. That, sadly, is the disappointing reality of Lee Toland Kreiger's "The Age of Adaline." The movie's premise is easy to grasp: 29-year-old Adaline Bowman (Blake Lively) was born at the turn of the century, but after a strange car accident in the 1930's she discovers she will not age a single day more. Decades pass as her daughter ages beyond her, and she begins taking false identities to avoid being discovered by the press or, worse, government agents who might have suspicions about her status. The latter might also want to make her a guinea pig to discover why she's become immortal (a story tangent the film quickly abandons). By 2014, Bowman seems resigned to a life of loneliness until Ellis Jones (Michiel Huisman of "Game of Thrones") spots her across the room...

Screen Australia says it has not mismanaged its finances by spending its annual production funding in just six months - a state of affairs which it says reflects the strength of the local film industry.
The government screen agency revealed in mid-December 2012 that it had spent its entire annual $42 million drama production allocation due to the unprecedented number of quality feature film and television projects seeking support. The shock announcement was reminiscent of the agency's abrupt decision to cut its investment cap in 2009 while several films were mid-financed. That decision.threw several major Australian productions into dissaray including The Tree and the biggest box office hit of.2010, Tomorrow When the War Began (Omnilab Media had to increase its investment at the last minute to ensure production).
Overspending on such a scale has never occurred before, even going back to the era of Screen Australia.s predecessor funding arm, the Film Finance Corporation.

Since 19th July, The London Film Museum has been running an exhibition of props and costumes from 20th Century Fox movies to celebrate the studio’s 75th anniversary. Clothes on Film decided to make a visit, a bit late in the day, but we had a good look round anyway.
There were not that many costumes in the Fox exhibition (certainly considering the history of the studio), but the museum itself has plenty more to see. Just to be in the same room as some of these memorable outfits is a thrill, especially from more recent movies where memories are fresh. With this is mind, here is our pick of Fox’s lot and the best the museum has to offer:

I'm not a big science fiction fan, so it's no surprise that I rarely watch the Syfy channel, but when the network aired an ingenious retelling of my favorite childhood story Alice in Wonderland, I had to tune in. The two-part series incorporates all sorts of futuristic and surrealistic updates, but as this behind the scenes video reveals, the look of the series reflects a definite '60s vibe. And as our Style Hunter inbox shows, plenty of you want a piece of Alice's wardrobe for yourself—and I don't blame you. From her plum velvet blazer to her simple blue sheath dress,...
