“It used to be cool to hate us, and now it’s become cool to like us.”
So says Paul Bales, COO of The Asylum, the B-movie flag-bearers who have cornered — in somewhat notorious fashion — one of the most beloved, derided, schlocky and, well, inexpensive rungs of Hollywood’s lower echelons.
This year, The Asylum has its 25th anniversary, marking a quarter-century of super-prolific, low-budget filmmaking, unashamed studio piggybacking and some of the most comically ludicrous concepts (and posters) ever made. And sharks. Truck loads of sharks (so many it’s difficult to actually pin down an exact figure).
And it’s a birthday the company — whose vast library includes the likes of Mega Shark Versus Giant Octopus, Avengers Grimm, Asteroid-a-Geddon and, of course, the six-strong Sharknado franchise — is celebrating not simply with a huge party on Santa Monica Pier during the American Film Market,...

I first interviewed Eric Forsberg back in August of 2006 in anticipation of the release of Snakes on a Train. Now here we are in April of 2010, and I am interviewing him again in anticipation of Mega Piranha, another killer animal mockbuster he's made for The Asylum.
I'm feeling a sense of déjà vu. With Mega Piranha debuting on Syfy April 10th and then hitting DVD shelves on April 27th, now seemed like a good time for a lighthearted return engagement with Mr. Forsberg discussing the majesty of Mega Piranha, what it's like working for the mockbuster masters at The Asylum, and his past, present, and future projects.

A new anthology flick shot over at the Playboy Mansion called "The Telling", produced by Chuck Williams, Bridget Marquardt Sherri Strain, will be hitting DVD shelves on April 14th. "The Telling" is a horror anthology about three girls hoping to pledge the most elite sorority on campus. As a final task, each pledge must tell the scariest story she can think of. The tales are told. The vote is in. But has someone taken the stories of murder to heart? Casting from Playboy will include Bridget Marquardt, Holly Madison, and Sara Jean-Underwood from "The Girls Next Door". The DVD will come in two versions R-rated and Unrated. As if I didn't get enough of gold diggers sleeping with Hugh Hefner on television, there's now a film starring Girls Next Door Holly Madison and Bridget Marquardt! At least its horror. And its produced by B-movie legend Sherri Strain.
