Don’t let the title “The Boys” fool you — Amazon Prime Video’s comic-book series also has girls! In fact, there are six female actors submitted for the 2023 Emmys for Season 3, which streamed last summer and is now eligible at the upcoming ceremony. The Emmy ballots were officially unveiled on the Television Academy’s website on June 15, the same day nominations-round voting began (it will conclude on June 26 at 10:00 p.m.).
Submitted in the category of Best Drama Actress are Erin Moriarty as Annie January/Starlight and Karen Fukuhara as Kimiko. Season 3 was impactful for both of these fan-fave characters, as the lead actresses revealed in our recent video chats. Starlight wound up quitting the superhero team known as The Seven after some decisions people “deemed amoral,” Moriarty explained. And Kimiko dreamt up a “brilliant” musical number set to the Gershwin hit “I Got Rhythm,” Fukuhara recalled.

“The Boys” is undeniably captivating — the Prime Video adaptation of Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson’s satirical superhero comic can be filthy, violent, irreverent and hilarious all at once. But the ongoing conflict between the show’s titular vigilantes and the “Supes” backed by malevolent conglomerate Vought International also keeps viewers transfixed with a layered narrative grounded in a relatable reality. It’s enough to make you forget that these flawed characters are wearing capes — even in the midst of all the kickass superhero action.
The challenge of “The Boys” is in creating an elaborate world that infuses its shock and awe with swirling drama and honest character motivation. In the videos below, visual effects supervisor Stephan Fleet, stunt coordinator John Koyama, and costume designers Laura Jean Shannon and Michael Ground describe how a world with endless possibilities is better off when its dildo brawls, hallucinated pizza parlor mascots, and...

“It’s super surreal,” says The Boys showrunner Erik Kripke of Barack Obama revealing he’s a big fan of the lurid Amazon superhero series.
Joined by fellow executive producer Rebecca Sonnenshine, supersuits designer Laura Jean Shannon and VFX supervisor Stephan Fleet, Kripke was talking ex-presidents and more during Deadline’s Contenders Television awards-season event.
“I mean look, we make this thing kind of in our little box and we’re just trying to make it as good as we can and try to say something of something that we think is going on in the world,” he added about the July 2019-premiering show based on Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson’s extremely raw comic series. “I’m just grateful that people respond to it and that someone like Obama responds to it, that’s crazy.”

If you think Stephan Curry is talented, you should see the skilled construction workers breaking ground on the Golden State Warriors’ new $1 billion stadium, Chase Center. No expense has been spared on the new home of the 2015 NBA champions — from the gold-plated shovels to the rich soil — but the most impressive thing was the synchronized dance the excavators performed while acrobats dressed as construction workers swung and fireworks exploded in the background. The team put on quite a show for the 1,000 guests — including Warriors’ All-Star forward Kevin Durant and head coach Steve Kerr — invited to witness the dawning of the new arena.

What happens after a rom-com ends?
That's the premise behind the new trailer for "I Give it a Year," which begins with the usual romcom ending — Rafe Spall and Rose Byrne's characters get married — and dives into the not-so-happily-ever after they are left with.
They may be giving it a year, but they'll also be giving you a laugh.
So what does happen when the romance is gone from a rom-com? You're just left with pure, fantastic comedy, that's what. And fittingly, "I Give it a Year" has packed in some comic excellence in the supporting roles, with Anna Faris and "The Office"'s Stephan Merchant proving top level backup.
Check it out, courtesy of Yahoo! Movies UK. And don't worry; the characters may give it a year, but this one should be hitting movie theaters some time within the next few months.

The long summer is ending, winter is coming, and don't even think about spring. The second season of HBO's thrilling fantasy drama Game of Thrones has arrived. Episode one, "The North Remembers," was a typically seat-of-your-pants, edge-of-your-seat tour of the geography of Westeros, from deserts to ice-bound forests, as we witnessed rival camps preparing to go to war for the Iron Throne. Here are the developments (spoiler alert) that most intrigued me and will have me hooked for the whole season: The Duo From Dragonstone We met a new claimant to the crown: His name is Stannis Baratheon, brother to the late King Robert.

According to reunion master Andy Cohen, 90 percent of all questions about Top Chef: Texas had to do with Beverly and the trio of sweaty, foul-mouthed meanies who bullied her throughout the competition. But honestly, after a whole season in which the food took a backseat to all the undercooked drama in the kitchen, I was glad that most of the reunion focused on other topics — like Ty-lör and his furry bottom (click this borderline-nsfw link at your own risk). Everyone knows “Making Love Out of Nothing At All.

No matter how you look at it, Bones is a remarkable show. It deftly blends humor into some of the most tragic (and gory!) storylines to be portrayed on television. It also offers a delicate balance of familial friendship that has enchanted viewers for the past six seasons, and remarkably continues to lure in new viewers each week. For a show entering its seventh season, Bones is showing no signs of slowing down and — as this week’s heart-breaking episode will demonstrate once again – is creatively at the top of its game.

The journey of an innocent whose eyes are opened after leaving his safe, familiar small town surroundings is a theme that has been in explored in literature ( Candide ) and film ( from Mr Deeds Goes To Town to Crocadile Dundee ). Often the naive hero is the object of ridicule until the sophisticates warm up to him. Other times the hero is liberated by the possibilities this new world offers. The new comedy Cedar Rapids takes several of these themes and comes up with a great addition to the small town fish out of water genre.

How do you sell a movie that, if people knew what it was actually about, they would never buy it? Why, prominently feature the most famous and well-liked cast member on the DVD box, even if he’s in the film for only 15 or so minutes, of course! Writing up a misleading description for the back won’t hurt either.
When you look at the Photoshop Disasters-worthy cover of Frenemy, Zach Galifianakis’ friendly face, framed by Callum Blue (Dead Like Me, Smallville) and Matthew Modine (Full Metal Jacket, Weeds), looks back at you. The visage, topped by big, round and red letters spelling out the film’s title, suggests a wacky comedy. The back description, on the other hand, brings to mind a dark comedy, albeit not the one this movie actually is. It describes a “group of friends” who witness a “horrifying crime” which leaves all but one unharmed.

With awards season is underway comes the 38th Annual Annie Award nominations, which recognize the year’s best work in animation. Since the creation of the animation-specific Oscar category in 2001, the Annies have predicted the Academy Award winner every year except 2006 and 2008.
Unfortunately, the award has been tainted by controversy after CEO Jeffrey Katzenberg reportedly bought each DreamWorks Animation employee a membership in the International Animated Film Society, Asifa-Hollywood, skewing the voting in the studio’s favor. This likely resulted in a surprise sweep by DreamWorks Animations’ Kung Fu Panda at the Annies in 2008-2009 over Pixar’s eventual Oscar winner, Wall-e.
Disney Studios has since pulled its official support of the event and submissions for the awards, though individual animators are able to submit their films themselves. As a result, the rules were changed for individual achievement categories, but Disney sought a neutral committee of animators from every studio to propose and approve guidelines.

The International Animated Film Society, Asifa-Hollywood, announced nominations today for the 38th Annual Annie Awards™ recognizing the year’s best in the field of animation including best animated feature, television production, commercials, short subjects, video games and outstanding individual achievements.
Two years ago, Kung-Fu Panda swept the awards over Wall-e pushing Disney and Pixar to withdraw from the organization and making everyone else wonder if there is any point in caring anymore about the ceremony. Toy Story 3 and Tangled did get Best Picture nominations, but DreamWorks (who pretty much run the show) lead the nominees.
According to /film, Disney’s reason for withdrawing was rooted in the organization’s very loose membership requirements and the fact that DreamWorks seemed actively working to stack the deck in the studio’s favour. Disney-Pixar president Ed Catmull said earlier this year,
“After more than a year of discussions with the Asifa board,...

The full list of nominations for the 38th Annie Awards were announced today with Dreamworks’s How to Train your Dragon gathering up the majority of nominations including Best Feature, Animation, Character Design and Voice Work for Gerard Butler and Jay Baruchel, as well as Directing nominations for Chris Sanders and Dean DeBlois.
Pixar’s Up took home the Best Animated Feature earlier this year at the 2009 awards and when the awards are announced next February Lee Unkrich and his team are up from a number of awards, along with Disney’s Tangled, but the recent decision of Disney to withdraw support for the awards may go some way to explaining the relatively few number of nods.
It has been a great year for animation as the films on the list below attest, and it’s nice to see Sylvain Chomet’s enchanting film The Illusionist scoring a point against the domination of CG here.

Disney has tough competition in the form of itself this year, as “Tangled” and “Toy Story 3″ will compete against one another, along with a host of other fantastic animated films, at the 38th Annual Annie Awards.
The Annie Awards will be a battleground for the upcoming Oscar animation awards. This year, only three animated films will be nominated. Why? Because the rules that govern the Oscars are laughably outmoded. But that’s beside the point.
Fact is, the Annie Awards deserve attention amongst the many other awards shows because so many great animated films were released in 2010, arguably more than traditional films. “Tangled,” “Toy Story 3,” “How to Train Your Dragon,” “Despicable Me” and “The Illusionist” will jostle for the Best Animated Feature award.
Here’s a list of all the nominees.

Carlsbad - LEGOs…those colorful blocks that snap together so easily. Many view them as a childhood toy, but they’re serious fun among collectors and adult builders. They can vacation at the American LEGOland. They can get those rare pieces at Lego stores across the country in malls. Lego video games featuring Star Wars, Batman and Indiana Jones are all the rage. Keeping up with what’s happening in Lego is about as foreboding a task as your mother keeping up with your LEGOs.
Joe Meno organizes the Lego universe through BrickJournal magazine. The periodical announces upcoming products, events and how-to articles by top buildings. It’s a coffeetable magazine featuring all the Lego pieces your kids lost under the sofa. The pages are addictive even for someone mildly interested in Lego with illustrations that show how the plastic building blocks can snap into amazing works of art. For...

DreamWorks Animation, the studio behind the "Shrek" CG comedy franchise report they have "huge regrets", allowing the April issue of "Vman Magazine" to pose their characters in a 'racy' magazine editorial, in anticipation of the film’s world premiere at the TriBeCa film festival April 21 and North American release May 21.
According to the studio, "in hindsight we would have declined to have the characters participate".
But VMan editor Stephan Gan said the spread by noted fashion photographer Ellen von Unworth is "funny, and done in good humor."
"As an editor of a progressive men’s magazine in America, one has to constantly think of celebrities," said Gan. "The most stylish models on the planet, and today’s male Heroes…that’s where 'Shrek' comes in! My dream was to see this celebrity make an appearance within a fashion story ."

Welcome to February and this brand new morning everyone. To celebrate the return to work after two glorious days off, we have a brand new trailer for the Stephan Merchant / Ricky Gervais comedy, Cemetery Junction. It’s great to see these great friends and writers working back together again after such awesome series as The Office and Extras.
It stars Felicity Jones, Christian Cooke, Jack Doolan, Ralph Fiennes, Matthew Goode and the man himself, Mr. Gervais.
Cemetery Junction gets it’s name as it’s about being trapped in a small town that you have no escape from, in this case Reading which is in the South of England, just off the M4 for anyone not in the know!
It’s scheduled for release 7th April so keep your eyes peeled for more on this one.

Denton Corker Marshall's Stonehenge visitor center finally gets the green light, after years of waiting.
A plan started in 1986 to give Stonehenge a worthwhile visitor center finally entered its end game last week when Melbourne firm Denton Corker Marshall's second (that's right, second) winning proposal was finally approved.
The planned building is a softly flowing roof propped up by dozens of stalks over two pods, one glass, one solid. Kind of like the Academy of Sciences filtered through Pole Dance. It looks okay, and it won't block Stonehenge's sight lines to the cosmos--a so-called "low-key" transit system will connect the visitor center to the stone circle, 1.5 miles away. Don't know what that means yet, but they'll have a little while to work it out: construction starts in 2011, and will finish up, hopefully, in time for the 2012 Olympics. The building is meant to be removable, though schematics currently available don't show...

It seems that the man can do no wrong at the moment. Hosting the Golden Globe Awards last night seemed to go down very well and today, our friends over at Sky Movies HD have got some brand new images from Ricky Gervais’ new movie, Cemetery Junction. The difference in this one to his last two (Ghost Town / The Invention of Lying) is that he’s re-joined forces with his old buddy, Stephan Merchant (they created The Office together) and have written and directed this latest movie. It stars Emily Watson, Ralph Fiennes, Matthew Goode and the man himself, Mr. Gervais.
