As you can tell from above, Prisoner 24601 still has the physical prowess to make us swoon (much like Hugh Jackman’s Oscar-nominated turn as Jean Valjean in the 2012 film), but Iranian/Canadian star Ramin Karimloo’s long-awaited Broadway debut as Valjean proved to be worth the wait. Coming off stellar reviews (and proving a threat to claim the Best Actor in a Musical Tony), with the revival already a smash hit, it seems that everything old is new again, as audiences cannot get enough barricades and French resistance (this time sans turntable, and all the better for it). Tyne Daly...

Adorable 32 year old musical theater actor Bobby Steggert has appeared in numerous Broadway and Off-Broadway plays, even garnering a Tony Award nomination for his performance in a revival of Ragtime. He made waves this month when he casually mentioned his sexual orientation (he’s gay) in an interview with Out magazine. The reaction to what he considered non-news surprised him and he posted the following open letter on his Tumblr account which we thought was worth sharing in its entirety.
I have been genuinely surprised by the attention my “coming out” has received. What, at the time, felt like a casual mention of my sexual preference in an interview about my latest stint on Broadway in Out Magazine, quickly grew into a multitude of blog and internet reports on my official status. Funny thing is, I had assumed that it was common knowledge, and that no one would care in the first place.

While a Broadway production doesn’t seem to be in the stars for “Yank!,” a musical about a gay American soldier falling in love for the first time in the midst of WWII, the piece will reportedly receive a cast album, and a licensing deal is supposedly in the works. The musical, created by composer Joseph Zellnik and lyricist David Zellnik, made its Off-Broadway debut in 2010 at the York Theatre Company, starring Tony nominee Bobby Steggert. The musical was well received, garnering seven Drama Desk nominations, two Outer Critics Circle nominations and two Lucille Lortel Award nominations. While the musical was workshopped at the Old Globe last fall, and expected a Broadway mounting this year or next under the direction of David Cromer, it seems to simply not be in the cards for “Yank!.” The piece, which was first shown at the New York Musical Theatre Festival in 2005, will instead live on in stock,...

Giant Public Theater, NYC
Giant, the new musical based on the Edna Ferber novel and now playing at the Public Theater, is a major achievement. No, it is not perfect, and it probably won't please everyone. There are no show-stopping production numbers that we are so used to in most musicals. However, I found its ambitious attempt to tell a sprawling, epic story -- one that encompasses two generations over twenty-five years and deals with themes ranging from family to racism to loving the Texas land to an evolving America -- to be wonderfully fulfilling.
Giant has a strong, dramatic book by Sybille Pearson, a superb cast, and a rich, melodic, surprisingly accessible score by Michael John Lachiusa that features a number of appropriate musical styles, including Mexican folk, rock, jazz, and country. It grabbed me from the opening moments and, while there were a couple minor bumps in the road,...

Leslye Headland loves Harvey Weinstein—despite having worked as his personal assistant. And he most likely loves her back—even after she penned the play Assistance, about ill-treated young personal assistants at a fictional corporation called the Weisinger Company headed by a demanding, impatient, perfectionist named Daniel Weisinger. At the very least, the Oscar-courting head of The Weinstein Company isn’t holding a grudge against Headland. The indie studio recently purchased her much-loved comedy Bachelorette (which she wrote and directed, based on her own play) at this year’s Sundance Film Festival.

A little over two years ago, AfterElton.com brought readers a list of the 37 Hottest Guys in Theater, and since then, the New York Stage has only become increasingly sexified. The lines between Broadway and Hollywood continue to blur, and as young men come to recognition in NYC, they're often quickly whisked away to Tinseltown to showcase not only their amazing talent, but often they're breathtaking good looks.
While it's tempting to include every Hollywood hottie who graces the stage on this list (a certain Lee Pace and Luke Macfarlane spring to mind), the point here is to honor the men who are mostly known for rockin' the live stages here in New York.
And so, without further ado, we present, in alphabetical order, the list (39!) of this year's hottest guys in theater!

Throughout the first season of The Good Wife, we sung the praises of this CBS drama.
Now, a new pair of guest stars will sort of be doing the same!
Anika Noni Rose and Bobby Steggert, both veterans of Broadway and both Tony Award nominees, have signed on to appear in the same episode of the Julianna Marguiles hit.
The network won't reveal anything about Rose's character, but we can confirm that Steggert will play the son of a deceased man who had been the suspect in a series of sniper attacks.
The Good Wife returns with new episodes on September 28. Early in its second season, viewers will also meet Alicia's gay brother, played by Rubicon star Dallas Roberts.

Here’s the easiest prediction to make about this year’s Tony Awards, which will be presented June 13 at NYC’s Radio City Music Hall: Host Sean Hayes will almost certainly make some reference to the hullabaloo about being too gay to play a straight man in the musical Promises, Promises. The CBS broadcast will also have an excuse to present a production number from his show even though it didn’t snag a nomination for Best Revival of a Musical. (There’s talk that the show will open with a medley of “pop songs you might not know are on Broadway.

Though the economy was still in dire straits, Broadway carried on during the 2009-10 season, with visits from such high-voltage marquee names as Hugh Jackman, Daniel Craig, Christopher Walken, Denzel Washington, Jude Law, Catherine Zeta-Jones, Liev Schreiber, and Scarlett Johansson. A little group called Green Day rocked Broadway's world with the stage adaptation of the band's hit album "American Idiot," Twyla Tharp paid tribute to Frank Sinatra in "Come Fly Away," and Elvis, Johnny Cash, Jerry Lee Lewis, and Carl Perkins formed a "Million Dollar Quartet." "Fela!," Bill T. Jones' combination dance party, concert, and musical biography, transferred to the Main Stem from its Off-Broadway run, as did Geoffrey Nauffts' tender and moving play "Next Fall." "Red" and "Time Stands Still" offered searing portraits of artists coping with crises, while Sarah Ruhl's "In the Next Room or the vibrator play" captured the repressive Victorian era. Broadway fare also...

Nathan Lane (pictured right), a two-time Tony winner and current star of The Addams Family musical on Broadway, stole the show yet again at the Drama League Luncheon Friday at the Marriott Marquis in New York City.
Tony-winning director Jerry Zaks presented him with the award for Distinguished Achievement in Musical Theater, and the star-studded dais, which included Hugh Jackman, Scarlett Johansson, Vanessa Williams and Michael Urie, and the rest of the room roared with laughter and cheers throughout his acceptance speech.
Though Lane's show, The Addams Family, is a box-office hit, it didn't receive the most rapturous reviews and was largely passed over by the Tony nominations - something Lane pointedly pointed out. Here's what he said:
Well, this is the best Drama League Luncheon I've ever been to. ... I want to say how grateful I am that you chose me for this honor before the reviews for The Addams Familyappeared.

There are so many movie and television faces nominated for the Tony Award this year that one begins to worry about how any stateside stage actor can earn a living. The answer, appears to be get famous in another medium in order to get plum stage roles.
Jude Law (Hamlet) is equally at home on screen or stage
This can work against the audience, this self destructive drive to only see the familiar, if it robs them of great stage trained actors in meaty roles. But thankfully this isn't a problem with actors who are adept at changing their "scale" for any medium. Take The Lovely Laura Linney, for instance, who no one would dare accuse of being out of her element whether she's on the silver screen, the living room telly or treading the boards on Broadway.
Lead Actor in a Play
Jude Law, Hamlet
Alfred Molina, Red
