There's a lot of bad CGI out there these days, from CGI monsters that missed the mark to the truly abysmal digital effects in last year's "The Exorcist: Believer." But as any avid viewer of the Corridor Crew's "VFX Artists React" series will know, there's also a lot of awe-inspiring stuff being done with CGI. James Cameron's "Avatar: The Way of Water" included a scene so convincing it had us questioning reality, and there's been no shortage of jaw-dropping CGI moments in "Star Wars" history.
Often, due to the prevalence of CGI in modern filmmaking, we don't necessarily think about the incredibly meticulous work that goes into creating such moments. Take "Game of Thrones" for instance. In a show as epic and effects-laden as HBO's monster hit series, you might expect the VFX artists to have encountered issues with rendering the variety of exotic beasts or grand landscapes. In reality,...

A new episode of King premieres on Reelz tonight, and in a new interview with the Morton Report, Alan Van Sprang shed some light on the show and his character, Detective Derek Spears. According to the actor, Spears' relationship with King "makes him a better cop" and "a better man." It's clear from the episodes we've seen that there's some chemistry between the two, and Van Sprang addresses that as well saying: "you’re never quite sure, either, if the two of them are going to get together or not. I don’t want to say too much about it because there is an element of surprise within (their) relationship." Now we really can't wait to see what happens.
Catch King on Fridays at 10p Et/ 9p Pt, and follow the link to check out the entire interview with Van Sprang.

As Showcase's "King" kicks off its second season, lead character Jessica King (Amy Price-Francis) sure has her hands full. The fiery Toronto detective heads the Major Crimes Task Force, where the pressure and cases keep piling up. Her husband, Detective Danny Sless (Gabriel Hogan), has been battling a gambling addiction. After numerous attempts, King is finally pregnant, but it's quite possibly her co-worker Detective Derek Spears' (Alan Van Sprang) baby. And on top of it all, her brassy, tell-it-as-it-is attitude hasn't earned her many friends on the force.
On set, things are much more relaxed, as executive producer Greg Spottiswood, Price-Francis and Van Sprang sat down to discuss the engaging cop drama with The Huffington Post TV Canada, and how much the show has changed since season 1.
Gender Bender
At one point, Jessica King could easily have been Joshua King. For too long, the police force has been considered one big boys' club.

it's not Tuesday but it's time for a Top Ten anyway... as this is yesterday's news already!
AMPAS used to hide their membership roster like the vote tallies but in the information age, they've opened up. Now we get to see the whole list of new invitees each year. I wonder how they keep they're membership around 6,000 given how many people they invite annual. Maybe enough people reject the offer, stop paying their dues, or pass from this mortal coil each year to balance it out?
You can read the full list of recipients at Indiewire, but as is the Film Experience tradition, we like to pinpoint the newest (potential) members whose future ballots we'd most like to see. So let's have at it.

They're two separate people but we'd like to imagine them filling out their ballots together inbetween sets.
