Avatar: The Last Airbender is making a showrunner change.
Albert Kim, who served as showrunner and wrote the pilot for Netflix’s hit live-action adaptation anime adaptation, is moving on with Christine Boylan and Jabbar Raisani taking over leadership of the show as exec producers for seasons two and three.
Kim shepherded the show for nearly two and a half years and will remain on the show as an executive producer. He has just signed a deal with Disney to join Percy Jackson and the Olympians as an exec producer after it was renewed for a second season.
Boylan was a co-exec producer on the first season. She has previously worked as a co-exec producer on series including Citadel, Poker Face and The Punisher as well as working on series including Castle and Once Upon A Time.

Avatar: The Last Airbender is heading into its second season with its third showrunner at the helm.
Showrunner Albert Kim, who replaced creators Michael Dante Dimartino and Bryan Konietzko, is also exiting the Netflix live-action series. Co-executive producer Christine Boylan and exec producer Jabbar Raisani — both of whom were hired by Kim — will take over as the drama’s third showrunners for the previously announced second and third seasons.
Sources say Kim’s intention was to lay the foundation for season one of Avatar: The Last Airbender after stepping in for the beloved franchise’s creators. Given the long turnaround time in crafting the series — Netflix ordered it in 2018, the creators left in late 2020 and the show didn’t debut until February 2024 — sources say Kim was ready to move on to new opportunities.
Kim, whose résumé include Sleepy Hollow and Leverage, will remain credited as an exec producer on Avatar: The Last Airbender...

AMC Networks will not be continuing its animated science-fiction series “Pantheon,” even though a second season has already been produced. There remains a possibility that the series could be licensed or sold to another platform.
The decision regarding “Pantheon” was made months ago, declared in a list of programming write-offs in early December of last year. The embattled network’s cost-cutting measures include 400 million for “strategic programming assessments” and 75 million for “organizing restructuring costs,” per an SEC filing.
The animated series, which starred the voices of Daniel Dae Kim, Paul Dano, Taylor Schilling and the late William Hurt, joins a growing list of programming cutbacks at the network. Earlier this week, Variety reported that the second season of the Courtney B. Vance series “61st Street” would be scrapped, despite production on four episodes having already been completed. “Invitation to a Bonfire,” an adaptation of Adrienne Celt’s book of the...

Perhaps AMC should stand for Another Maddening Cancellation. As AMC Networks’ canceling spree continues, the company has nixed the animated AMC+ series Pantheon after one season, even though it had ordered two seasons and the second season had already been produced. In another blow to fans, the first season of Pantheon has been removed from the AMC+ library, according to Deadline, which first reported the cancellation news. Created by Craig Silverstein and based on short stories by award-winning author Ken Liu, Pantheon“explore[d] the theme of technology through the lens of family, focusing on both the people whose brains have been digitally uploaded and the loved ones they’ve left behind,” AMC Networks said in an August 2022 press release. “Maddie [Katie Chang], a bullied teen, receives help from someone online. AMC+’s Pantheon posits a near future in which not one but two different companies have cracked the code to “uploaded intelligence” (Ui) — distinct from AI in that these aren’t sentient consciousnesses born of computers but ones born as humans, and then digitized into the cloud at the end of their corporeal lives. The approaches taken by Logorhythms and Alliance differ in minor points but, strikingly, both have chosen to deploy this bleeding-edge science in the same way: by stripping the UIs of everything but their professional skills so that they can continue toiling without end in the afterlife, trapped in simulated offices with little memory of any existence beyond work.
Like so many of the most compelling sci-fi concepts, it’s a scenario that feels simultaneously farfetched and depressingly familiar. (Is there anything easier to imagine than, say, Facebook doing exactly...

Oscar winnerWilliam Hurt, who died today at 71, left behind a yet-to-be-released TV series, AMC’s first animated drama Pantheon. Hurt was cast in the project, from creator and showrunner Craig Silverstein a year ago. He had completed vis voice work on the series before his death, sources tell Deadline. There is no premiere date yet for Pantheon; it will likely debut later this year.
Pantheon is based on a collection of short stories by Ken Liu about Uploaded Intelligence, or, human consciousness uploaded to the Cloud. The series focuses on Maddie (Katie Chang), a bullied teen who receives mysterious help from someone online. The stranger is soon revealed to be her recently deceased father, David (Daniel Dae Kim), whose consciousness has been uploaded to the Cloud following an experimental destructive brain scan.

If the title of AMC's Revolutionary War drama didn't initially seem to encompass the events that unfolded in season one, it will be extremely self-evident in season two when Benedict Arnold, the most infamous traitor in American history, enters the fray. After whispers of Arnold's battlefield heroics popped up last season, British actor Owain Yeoman (The Mentalist) joins the cast as the notorious turncoat who conspired to betray the patriot cause and hand over the American stronghold at West Point in 1780. Combined with last year's mid-season debut of General George Washington (Ian Kahn), Arnold's introduction is oozing with dramatic possibility.

His father (Kevin McNally) and wife (Meegan Warner) are staunch Tory loyalists; his childhood friends, including the love of his...
