Money in the world of football has become a big talking point within the game. Be it transfer fees, ticket prices, imaging and TV rights, or even the odd FIFA related bribing scandal, the financial element of the game will now always be questioned. With figures nearly exceeding £100,000,000 for a single player it’s beginning to feel that clubs can demand stupid money for any player within their squad. You only have to look at players like Dwight Gayle, Jake Livermore, and Robert Snodgrass who are being bought for £10 million plus. I mean, Crystal Palace bought Jeffery Schlupp for £12 million! Am I missing something here? It’s like money doesn’t have any value within the game anymore.
Of course, there are some transfers that warrant clubs splashing out large amounts of money to get their man. Players like Cristiano Ronaldo, Gareth Bale, Luis Suarez, and Neymar to name a few.

'Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl': Johnny Depp as Capt. Jack Sparrow. 'Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl' review: Mostly an enjoyable romp (Oscar Movie Series) Pirate movies were a Hollywood staple for about three decades, from the mid-'20s (The Sea Hawk, The Black Pirate) to the mid-to-late '50s (Moonfleet, The Buccaneer), when the genre, by then mostly relegated to B films, began to die down. Sporadic resurrections in the '80s and '90s turned out to be critical and commercial bombs (Pirates, Cutthroat Island), something that didn't bode well for the Walt Disney Company's $140 million-budgeted film "adaptation" of one of their theme-park rides. But Neptune's mood has apparently improved with the arrival of the new century. He smiled – grinned would be a more appropriate word – on the Gore Verbinski-directed Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl,...

Sure, making a movie monster is tough, but it’s not like anyone can say you were inaccurate if the beast has too many teeth or its nose is too big. Not so when you are trying to turn a renown actor like Anthony Hopkins into renown director Alfred Hitchcock. That was the task set before FX makeup artists Howard Berger and Peter Montagna, and hair artist Martin Samuel when they signed on for Hitchcock, which tells the tale of the famed director and his most infamous film, Psycho. We spoke with the trio about what it takes to work so closely in the realm of reality.
How do you go about creating the makeups to turn Anthony Hopkins into Alfred Hitchcock?
Howard: We started by getting a lot of photos. We also managed to get a life mask of Hitchcock. There was one made in the 1960s, so we...

Oscar week concluded on Saturday afternoon with my favorite event of the week – the Hair and Makeup symposium. The Academy invited the public to join them to celebrate the achievements of this year’s nominees in the category. The nominees discussed their creative processes and presented film clips, photographs and displays of their work, including appliances, molds and wigs.
The event was moderated by makeup artists and hairstylists branch governor Leonard Engelman with special guests director Sacha Gervasi (Hitchcock) and actor Graham McTavish (The Hobbit – An Unexpected Journey).
Nominees Lisa Westcott and Julie Dartnell said, “Anne Hathaway insisted on having her hair cut for real in the movie and it was completely her decision. She was absolutely clear that she wanted to do it. We could have easily done it with wigs and full cap and basically a bald cap and a very, very fine wig on the top and...

Ben Affleck's "Argo" is not only being celebrated in the U.S., it has also been receiving love abroad particularly at the recently concluded BAFTA Awards (British Academy of Film and Television), the U.K. equivalent to the Oscars.
"Argo" took home the Best Film of the Year trophy, as well as the Best Director Award for Affleck. Once again, take that Academy -- the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences, that is...
In the acting categories, Daniel Day-Lewis won for "Lincoln" (surprise, surprise), while Emmanuelle Riva (love her!!!!) won the Best Actress award for "Amour." Now, call me crazy, but I have a sneaky feeling that Riva will win the Best Actress Oscar as well. She's beloved, a classic, an icon, a legend -- everything a Best Actress Oscar winner should be!

The ceremony is over here in London, bringing together some of the finest and most talented people in the film industry under the same roof for one night. The BAFTAs are this country’s highest honour in film, and they have handed out their awards for the 66th time to those whom they deem the most deserving in the past year in film.
And since Ben Affleck is one of my favourite filmmakers of all time, I have been in a brilliant mood tonight, because he’s won (and very much earned) Best Director for Argo, and taken home the Best Film prize alongside his co-producers George Clooney and Grant Heslov. If you haven’t yet seen Argo, I can’t recommend enough how much you should see it as soon as possible.

The Guardian film team predict who will win what at this year's ceremony
On Friday Xan Brooks assessed the field of this year's Bafta contenders and found it "a hazy huddle of frontrunners, all seemingly bobbing back and forth in front of the finish line".
Lincoln is first among equals with 10 nominations. Les Misérables, Life of Pi, Skyfall and Argo all crowd in behind.
The awards momentum has swung from Life of Pi to Lincoln to Argo over the past few weeks. In a competition this close there could be upsets. There should be tears. There must be winners.
So here's what we think will take home scary award masks this year. We've listed all the nominees. Our predicted winners are in bold.

The ever-adventurous Makeup and Hairstyling branch once again showed independence in its choice of nominees this year. While many people assumed transforming Daniel Day-Lewis into Abraham Lincoln would yield a nod for “Lincoln,” it was turning Anthony Hopkins into Alfred Hitchcock that tickled the branch’s fancy as Sacha Gervasi’s film managed to score its sole nomination in the category. Howard Berger, Oscar winner for “The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe,” shares this nomination with co-special makeup effects artist Peter Montagna and hair stylist Martin Samuel. But a little over a year ago, in November 2011, he...

Burton, speaking about the nomination, said, "Frankenweenie is a very personal film for me. The idea of telling a feature length version was in the back of my mind for many years. Stop Motion was the perfect medium for this project, and one I've always loved for its expressiveness and dimensionality. I've worked with so many incredible artists: animators, cast members, set builders, and puppet makers, all who have helped bring this film to life one frame at a time. I'm so honored that the Academy has recognized this film as one of its nominees."
Also on the Fango front was #319's cover story, Quentin Tarantino's brilliant and rousing spaghetti southern Django Unchained, which pulled in a Best Picture nomination,...

I've enjoyed watching the Academy Awards for as long as I can remember. Even though I don't always agree with their decisions, it's still a fun experience for me. This year Emma Stone and Seth MacFarlane woke up at the buttcrack of dawn to give us the nominations for the 85th Academy Awards, I however didn't wake up to watch because I was just too damn tired.
There's a lot of great movies that were nominated this year and Lincoln leads the pack with 12 nominations which isn't surprising at all. Life of Pi ended up getting 11 noms, Les Miserables got 8, Silver Linings Playbook got 8 as well, Argo ended up with 7, Zero Dark Thirty has 5, Skyfall got 5, Django Unchained got 5 and The Avengers got 1.
There aren't many surprises this year, some might think that Beasts of the Southern Wild was a surprise, but there's been so much ridiculous hype for the...
