The Baltimore Orioles are having a moment, and no one is enjoying it more than Joan Jett. The legendary punk rocker sat in with Orioles TV broadcasters Kevin Brown and Ben McDonald during Monday’s game against the Chicago White Sox.
Jett became a fan of the Orioles in 1969, after attending a game with her father at the age of 13 (it just so happened that Jim Palmer threw a no-hitter that day). During the broadcast, she discussed her fandom and showed off her immense knowledge of the team. She also tried her hand at some play-by-play and demonstrated how to throw a screwball. You can replay the broadcast below.
Jett is amidst a US tour with her band The Blackhearts. Tickets are available here.

Tim McCarver, the All-Star catcher whose cerebral approach behind the plate over four decades led to a Hall of Fame career as a baseball broadcaster, has died. He was 81.
McCarver died Thursday, the National Baseball Hall of Fame announced. The cause of death was heart failure.
McCarver broke into the major leagues with the St. Louis Cardinals in 1959 at age 17 and took his final swings for the 1980 World Series champion Philadelphia Phillies. Blessed with a good eye and a disciplined approach in the batter’s box, he compiled a .271 batting average over 21 seasons and pushed the Cardinals to titles in 1964 and ’67.
The Memphis native, who also played for the Montreal Expos and Boston Red Sox, developed a strong rapport with Hall of Fame pitchers Bob Gibson and Steve Carlton, earning two All-Star appearances and a spot in the Cardinals Hall of Fame.
In 2012, McCarver received the Ford C. Frick Award for excellence in broadcasting,...

Go Luke, go!
The Baltimore Orioles invited 14-year-old Luke Terry to hang out with players at Camden Yards prior to Wednesday’s game against the Cleveland Indians.

Right from its opening scene – where a suspect is chased under a bus and his head squashed like a jam doughnut – No Offence marked itself out as a gripping cop show like no other. The brainchild of Shameless’ Paul Abbott, it smashes together lightning-paced police drama with dark comedy and lashings of soap opera. At the centre is impulsive detective constable Dinah Kowalska, played by Elaine Cassidy, who we caught up with on the phone ahead of the second series beginning tonight (January 4th) on Channel 4. Key to No Offence’s success, she told us, was the Paul Abbott factor.
“It is like when you really like a band and you are waiting for their next album,” she said. “No Offence felt like his next album after Shameless, even though he has written films and stuff since. Paul’s writing is unique. It is just about three degrees left of reality.

Apple has turned away app “Cecil’s Revenge,” a game based on the classic “Asteroids” platform — but with a ripped-from-the-headlines twist. The app flips the script on hunters, making them the prey to the suddenly armed animals they normally poach. It is named after the titular African lion that was recently illegally shot and killed by American Walter James Palmer, a 55-year-old dentist from Minnesota. Palmer allegedly lured Cecil onto private land with a carcass laid out on a car and then shot the lion with an arrow on July 1. He then tracked the animal for 40 hours before delivering the.

Zimbabwe is seeking the extradition of the American dentist who illegally killed Cecil the lion after luring the animal out of a national park to shoot it. The Associated Press reports that environment minister Oppah Muchinguri is the first official comment on the lion’s death after accusing American hunter Walter James Palmer of trying to hurt Zimbabwe’s image, and saying Palmer must be made accountable in the country in which he violated the law. Always an avid lover of animals, Betty White was devastated when she heard that Cecil the Lion was killed by an American dentist named Walter James Palmer during a hunting trip on July 1st.
The “Hot in Cleveland” lady, who will be hosting a series of animal specials on the Discovery Family Channel called “Pawgust,” told press, “You don’t want to hear some of the things I want to do to that man.”
Betty also noted, “It’s such a heartbreaker. You can’t even talk about it. And to see this king of the jungle and personifying it in every way, this gorgeous creature… How can somebody do that?”...

Beverly Hills, Calif. (AP) - Betty White, a passionate animal activist, has harsh words for the Minnesota dentist who killed Cecil the lion while on a hunting trip in Zimbabwe this month.
"You don't want to hear some of the things I want to do to that man," the 93-year-old actress told The Associated Press on Thursday.
"It's such a heartbreaker. You can't even talk about it, and to see this king of the jungle and personifying it in every way, this gorgeous creature. How can somebody do that?"
Cecil was drawn from a wildlife preserve and shot by American hunter Walter James Palmer on July 1. Palmer is believed to have shot the lion with a bow and then the wounded cat was tracked for 40 hours before he killed it with a gun.

Whoopi Goldberg and her cohorts on “The View” vented their rage over the killing of Cecil the Lion during Thursday’s episode, with Goldberg declaring that the killing of the lion, who was reportedly lured out of a sanctuary park before being slain, was “murder.” Goldberg drew a distinction between Cecil’s killer, American dentist Walter James Palmer, and hunters who hunt to feed their families. “This was not a sport; sport is, you’re in there and you use everything you shoot,” Goldberg offered. “This man went over and he basically shot fish in a barrel.” Also Read: PETA Says Cecil the Lion's Killer.

We’re thrilled to see Will Ferrell return to seventies newscasting. After all, 2004′s Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy is probably his single greatest contribution to popular culture. (What, did you think we we’re gonna say Land of the Lost?)
But this just released trailer for the upcoming sequel Anchorman 2 gets us excited for other reasons. The plot has Ron and the gang heading to New York City to start a 24-hour news channel. Kristen Wiig shows up as an equally dim-witted love interest for Brick Tamlin (Steve Carell), and James Marsden is on hand to provide some handsome competition for Ron. The teaser trailer’s showpiece however is Brian Fontana (Paul Rudd) apparently jockeying to be cast in a Jockey underwear commercial. He’s Jim Palmer meets Harry Reems and that’s a retro combo we can support.
One quibble, we don’t see much of...

Returning after a month's break, the show hopefully offered up a glimpse of what to expect in the second half of the season, by getting back to its roots. Namely, Emily/Daniel, Victoria manipulation, Nolan-isms, and .... Red Sharpie!
The most terrifying thing you will ever see.
Victoria has a plan. She needs to find a way to get Daniel out of the clutches of The Initiative before it's too late, and she knows that he will never listen to anything she says, so she intends to recruit a certain figure from Daniel's past ... someone with an ass for days with an unhealthy obsession for Daniel's life. No, not Tyler, he's dead! She plans to bring Emily back into the family fold, to try and talk some sense into her son.
She invites Emily over for lemonade (won in a hostile takeover of the lemonade stand down the street.

I spent my holiday break kneeling at the altar of St. Frank the Bludgeoned and imploring him that, in the new year, Revenge would show us even a sliver of its former pluck. Well, hallelujah, because those prayers were answered with this week’s episode. Emily and Victoria are in cahoots! Aiden is jealous of Daniel! Jack is in jail! Best of all, the red Sharpie is back! Let’s take a look at what went down in “Power.”

It’s baaaack! The Jan. 8 episode of ‘Revenge’ opened with a training session between Emily and Aiden — that quickly turned into a make-out session.
Since Daniel (Josh Bowman) has been a pawn in the Initiative’s game of evilness, Victoria (Madeleine Stowe) cooked up a plan to grab her son’s attention once again — and she turned to one of her worst enemies, Emily Thorne (Emily VanCamp), for help! Looks like even the Graysons will do whatever it takes to protect family.
Emily and Aiden had a public “fake-up” (aka fake breakup), and guess who just happened to be present? Daniel Grayson, of course! Does this kid really think that everything in life will go his way?
Conveniently, Emily was invited to a dinner with the Graysons, and she took the opportunity to confront the judge who presided at her father’s trial. This informative dinner also led Emily to...

I sent an e-mail the other day that was one of the hardest things I've ever had to write. It was to Jim Palmer and Maura Clare at the Conference on World Affairs in Boulder. I told them I wouldn't be coming back this spring. I sent it, and stared into space, and was flooded with sadness.
I don't intend to write here about the Conference, which has allowed me to live more than nine months of my life in Boulder, one week at a time. I wrote about Cwa in a 2009 blog entry titled the Leisure of the Theory Class. I need not tell you again about Howard Higman or Daddy Bruce Jr.

As we talked about earlier in our review of "Ignition," last night's NCIS saw McGee take the lead in a case right up his alley, while introducing a new foil for Gibbs.
Below, our staff members break down Tuesday's episode of TV's #1 show in more detail in an NCIS Round Table discussion. Here's what our panel had to say ...
1. What was your favorite NCIS quote from the episode?
The Barnacle: Abby sweetly condescendingly to McGee: "What's really amazing is how much more fascinating jet-pack trivia gets the 11th time you've heard it."
Dr. Shepherd: The obligatory Ziva mispronunciation of the week (albeit not necessarily her fault): When she read M. Allison Hart's name as "Mallison."
M.L. House: No particular NCIS quotes stand out, but I loved McGee's enthusiasm and Tony's awkward inability to handle playing second fiddle.
2. More out of place when taking charge: McGee or Palmer?

I have lived more than nine months of my life in Boulder, Colorado, one week at a time. Here I am again. Here more than anywhere else I have heard for the first time about more new things, met more fascinating people who have nothing to do with the movies, learned more about debate, and trained under fire to think on my feet.
